No, we can't believe that it's already April either, but at least the dawning of a new month gives us an excuse to complain about PlayStation Plus! Seriously though, snark aside, the initial reaction to April's PS Plus games line-up hasn't been great. While the selection does boast a couple of relatively highly rated PS4 titles — Slay the Spire and SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated — it's the kind of line-up that doesn't have a headline act to get people on board at first glance.
The PS5 offering (which is also available on PS4) is Hood: Outlaws & Legends — another multiplayer game that we suspect a lot of subscribers are just going to roll their eyes at. But that's enough negativity — we want to know what you think. Is April's PS Plus line-up good? Bad? Somewhere in between? Vote in our polls, and then tell it like it is in the comments section below.

I haven't been happy for a long time now.
Yeah we have the monthly “just add a garbage failed western multiplayer title” meant to be the headline, but Slay the Spire and SpongeBob are titles I’ve heard amazing things about from their niche communities so I’m more than happy that I get them free this month.
That is a good spongebob game, wish we got knack 2 though.
Mostly, yeah. I'm playing Spongebob for the hell of it and it's surprisingly decent for a children's game, and Slay the Spire is something I've been interested in for a while.
Zero interest in the Hood-whatever game, though.
@tsznx Last month was ok. This is a rubbish month, but actually I'm quite happy not to add anything to the backlog.
StS is a great game but I'd rather play it on my phone. Played BfBB back at first release and when the remaster launched. It's fun but yea, last month was way better. Ghostrunner was great.
@tsznx we're here if you need to talk
Lol I actually wanted to play the SpongeBob game but I just gave my brother my PS5 🤦♂️ I swear my timing is always terrible
No. It’s a joke now. I am beginning to wonder why I pay annually. I suppose they’re free but compared to what PlayStation could offer, it’s embarrassing. But it’s fine, I’ve turned to Turkish deals now.
@Enuo 🤣
I own SpongeBob, so not a good month for me. I never seem to play the games much, as I tend to own any I was interested in.
Most excited for Hood. I nearly bought it at launch but was in the midst of playing other games at the time.
As an Xbox player, just remember, it could be worse.
Actually, my friends laughed at me last night because I downloaded SpongeBob. I'm 34 and they think I shouldn't be playing a 'kids game'.
How is it any different to enjoying Spyro? Doesn't matter how old you are to enjoy games and it looks like it might be charmingly fun.
I am, I love card games and that sponge bob game was my favorite when i was a kid, didn't buy they for ps4 because life and now they are "free". I'm going to platinum both lol
I'm a solid 'Meh'. I usually download something but not sure I'll bother this month. If anything I'll maybe give SpongeBob a go just for something different.
Meh. But I guess I can't complain, because if I do I'll be called entitled for demanding from a service that I pay.
So instead, I'm grateful that the great almighty Sony has granted me these wonderful gifts from the goddess herself.
I voted meh it's OK. Not since the offer is that bad but more because the chance I will actually play any of these is close to 0. Not really my type of games
@Pat_trick please don't tell me your last name is "Star", because if you are that "Patrick Star", you might be biased towards supporting your homie SpongeBob.
Still, its a good month for me to catchup on the good titles since I am not adding more games to the pending list.
I bought and beat SpongeBob around launch, and I liked it. Slay the Spire combines 2 genres I'm not very fond of (card & rogue). Hood is just a dead online-only game I'll never play. This ain't my month but the first 2 games are undoubtedly rock-solid in quality.
When will the PS Now games for this month be announced?
On the plus side, consolidating both services means we won't get repeat offerings anymore. Slay the spire is already available on PS now, for example.
I'm enjoying Spongebob, that's all that matters.
I thought the quality might go down on plus with the new models but shouldn't have worried, it's already sh1te...
The spongebob game seems like light hearted fun, I played the tutorial before hitting the pubs earlier and it'll be a nice pallette cleanser before getting back into more tricky/heavy themed games!
@Styledvinny79 same here, genuine value on the Turkey store - Demon's Souls for twenty quid at the moment, for example, or a year of EA play for a tenner and that one's not even a sale price.
I think more and more are using it now.
Its ok. Enough said.word up son
Slay the spire is great, but since I already own it on steam I'm looking forward to playing some Spongebob.
Card games are beyond tedious. I mean you're on a console that lets you do pretty much anything and have unparalleled control of your character. Why bother being limited by the constraints of a physical game?
I'm too old for SpongeBob so no point there and Hood isn't exactly setting the world on fire is it? I don't have time to invest in becoming competent at a repetitive MP game and I really don't want to.
Three pointless games which Sony should be ashamed of. It's all well and good saying ItS OnLY A poUnD a MonTh or whatever but the fact is this is a service that has gone massively downhill, and to not speak up about that is anti consumer.
@Johnnycide never too old for SpongeBob
Won't be touching any of them
a PS2 era spongebob game, lol that's what makes this an ok month for you? jesus
Ahh yes, another month of "my free ***** isn't good enough"
@tsznx SpongeBob will help with that.
I’ve downloaded but yet to touch Slay the Spire on my Switch, so that is where I will play it. The other two, couldn’t care less. Bummer month tbh
@MightyDemon82 as much as I'd like to agree (as in its an incredible kids cartoon and it was inspired by one of the greatest bands of all time, Ween), it just isn't for me. If you or anyone else loves it though? Good times! It's a great show!
@KundaliniRising333 that just goes to show the poor quality of the other games.
The Battle for Bikini Bottom: “A long and arduous journey”
@KundaliniRising333 Not just any PS2 SpongeBob game. A glitchy remaster of one.
But really, I already played SpongeBob and was mixed on it, so I'm only really interested in Slay the Spire, but only because I've heard good things about it, I have no idea what the actual game is.
I'm generally unhappy with the PS+ games. I rarely download one.
That said, this selection might be the worst ever. Beyond bad and into insulting territory.
Meh, they're OK. I would prefer better games, but not bad for $5. My daughter may enjoy the SpongeBob game and I've heard great things about Slay the Spire, so I'll try it out.
@sonicmeerkat in Japan Knack 2 was a PS Plus game last year. I can't remember what it was in place of.
I've already bought SpongeBob for my son several months ago, Slay the spire is cool but I can't imagine myself playing it on the TV during my daily playing sessions in the evening, it's more of a mobile or PC game to play at work in my book.
@GADG3Tx87 Just laugh at them for being insecure, not like you're playing paw patrol.
I'll claim SpongeBob despite already owning it, but otherwise it's a meh month.
I'm not normally one to project negativity... but seriously, what happened to this service?
The same service that (once upon a time) gave us FFVIIR, Control, Plague Tale etc
And now these!
I think now would be a great time to release the game(Everywhere)!!! Just saying
Pretty good imo, way better than last month at least.
I swear some people here expect too much.
Not going to be renewing my subscription. Also, saving up for the new Xbox. Microsoft respects their customers.
@mcyr1984 *looks at comment history
Yeah, that tracks.
@CJD87 you have to look at it as a 12-month service. It has a bit of everything. You may like FF VII, but someone else may have way more fun playing Slay the Spire. And if you look at the comments, plenty of people have nothing but nice things to say about it. Just an example.
@Unlucky13 another day another insulted gamer.
Already got the plat on SpongeBob. Would have preferred one of the much rarer ps3 SpongeBob games like Xbox just gave away Truth or Square for GWG. The game is 20 quid on disc and they are all going up in price physical.
Played Spongebob last night. It's quite fun too. Glad it was released early for Plus
The only thing that makes PS+ bad for a month is if you already own all 3 games! Even then I you buy physical games its OK because it helps to preserve your Disc copy.
@KundaliniRising333 Never played it and it looks good thats why.
Just stop this poll because it crap every month even when there are good games in there. The salt with is really high here.
I think playstation plus keeps putting crap games every month just to keep subscribers, its the fact that people think the games will get better each month when they are a load of crap.
@GADG3Tx87 Meanwhile me and 3 of my friends were vibing to Team Sonic Racing last night. We're all 17-18. I don't get why people can't enjoy every game.
I don't understand the selections recently
Since the first plus of ps5 the selections are *****
I’ve come to the conclusion that there are just too many video games and genres to please everyone…or to please even a decent-sized majority of the gamers.
If Sony gave away a new Madden or FIFA game on day 1, it likely would only interest MAYBE 50ish percent of the PS+ users. Young gamers wouldn’t want ‘em; non-sports fans wouldn’t want ‘em.
I argue it’s the same thing with any game given away.
Another example: Even if the PS+ game was the newest COD game, young gamers and their parents wouldn’t like it, gamers who don’t like FPS games would be annoyed, gamers without much hard drive space remaining would be annoyed, people with slower internet speeds would be bothered by the large download size, and there’d be backlash from gamers who’d already bought the COD game at full price.
A test for you! Fill in the blank:
From Sony management’s perspective, they feel they’ve of met their PS+ subscribers’ needs when ____% of the user base is pleased with the month’s free games.
I’d say somewhere around 60% approval rating is a good month.
GABBAGE, as far as I'm concerned.
Anything Spongebob can burn imo. I know I'm an outlier there but I will not be silenced.
@CJD87 same here...I say something negative very seldom, and I hope that things are going to get better. Probably they are preparing for the merging with PS Now? IDK... we'll see. Anyway when you look at it,they should release games for different types of audience...
Yes very happy
Yes very happy!
Slay is on ps now which is how i played it. Other than that nothing here for me this month. Again. Sigh. Hoping the selections are better when everything is merged but right now it just looks like they took now and split it bwtween ps4/5 and the older gen games. Not exactly what people were aski g for but whatever.
I'm so happy with Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated being in it! This was my childhood game and really wanted to buy it at launch but then wanted to buy other games.
@naruball All of his comments are just thrashing on pretty good games smh
@VivianXD2464 some people can't help themselves.
