We're just days away from Summer Game Fest 2024. Especially over the last few years, the event has become something of a replacement for E3, as numerous publishers now utilise the gathering as a means to flaunt their upcoming wares before a huge audience. Summer Game Fest may not boast the same kind of bombast that made E3 such a spectacle, but there's no denying its reach.
Are you excited for Summer Game Fest, though? That's what we're here to find out. Organiser and host Geoff Keighley has said that we shouldn't expect big announcement after big announcement from the main show — and that the two-hour presentation will mostly focus on existing titles. Not exactly the most effective way to drum up hype, but we suppose it's important to temper expectations when your reputation's on the line.
So, how are your hype levels ahead of this year's Summer Game Fest? Be sure to vote in our polls, and then give us your honest opinion in the comments section below.

Yes and no. That Geoff what's his face is annoying as hell.
Not really. I don't even know when it is.
About as hyped as I am for the loving embrace of death.
Yeah, I vibe. Makes for a chill afternoon with the guys, with the occasional hype reveal we all shout at. If I were to watch it on my own I'd probably think much less of it, but it REALLY shines when you've got a bunch of dweebs in a room popping off over 5 seconds of Goku's head for the following 20 minutes.
I was kinda hyped until this week, Geoff just had to go and kill the hype by putting out his last few statements.
Nah. I was not even aware it was this week! 😂
Gone are my days for getting excited for these things.
Do any of these shows impress anymore? Can’t remember the last time we had one where the general consensus was that it was full of exciting new reveals.
The Game Awards is way better than this. He seems to get more announcements for that than this.
My problem with both this mess and E3 is that they are not adding anything and just condense a bunch of news into a one week period with the months around it being slow on news. I would prefer to just have news and hype rolled out at a steady cadence.
@RBRTMNZ E3 at its peak was so much better though. Came at the end of the school year so you had a summer full of hype and poring over the magazines full of previews. It’s so impersonal these days with corpos just showing bog standard adverts for games rather than journalists getting the same hands on experience with the games.
I was a little more excited till Geoff said it would be mostly existing games, I assume he means already announced games, but still that's a bit rubbish!
For the actual show whilst it is broadcasting? No. I will wait for it to be about 90 minutes in, and then start to watch it with the ability to skip through all the adverts, guff, musical interlude and stuff that does not interest me.
Last year I started watching it an hour after it began, and by the time I had skipped through all the stuff in the first hour or so that did not interest me, I had caught up with the live presentation! Hence, 90 minutes before I start watching it this year...
My I've become indifferent over the years but I couldn't care less about events like this anymore
Which is a shame cause 10 years ago I'd watch every stream of E3, even stuff like the Bethesda press conference despite not caring about their games at all
Wouldn't say I'm hyped, but I do expect at least one thing or two I care about to be shown, and as far as I'm concerned that's enough for the presentation to be worth it.
(No way I'll be actively watching during those two hours, though.)
I'm always excited to see more games or gameplay, but I prefer the PlayStation and Nintendo streams to Geoff's shows.
I can't put a finger on why. I just do.
@mariomaster96 Same. I used to get hyped for E3 like it was Cup Final day or something. Just a massive event about new gameplay.
I understand why it's gone and tbh I agree with the reasons, but it was epic while it lasted.
I am hyped for the Xbox show this year, and suspect that many of the games shown will end up on the PlayStation over the next 12 months anyway, so there is still reason to be interested in it even in these blue quarters...
Hyped?! No, Keighley made sure any bit of that was squashed.
Question : Are you hyped for Summer Game Fest?
Me : NO. I have hype on Wholesome Direct 2025 for tons of upcoming cute kids / cozy games.
I am quite looking forward to watching at least some of it, but I'm also not expecting much. We don't have to expect much to still be "excited about" (interested in) the games that are there and the event though.
And now, more than ever, there is a chance of Henry appearing there on horseback 😁

Not really to be honest, mainly because every big developer is hosting their own showcase.
The only thing I'm anticipating is people getting ushered off the stage before they've finished giving their 30 minute acceptance/thank you speech.
E3 was great in its glory days, but I can't pretend that it has been even remotely good for the last several years. SGF is just another okay show that took it's place. I'm looking forward to it!
I'm quite excited for it but it goes on too long.
I like Geoff and appreciate him trying to fill the void E3 (in it's glory days) left behind but it definitely ain't got the same soul as the song goes. I'll still watch it as I'm sure I'll get some news related to something I'm interested in and it's still enjoyable to watch with friends even if it's more about poking fun at the awkward moments.
I'm honestly more excited for Ubisoft's showcase as I'm interested in at least 3 games that are going to be there.
Not hyped, but I'm looking forward to it, like with every show. I don't get the hate that the shows or Geoff get, these are kinda fun to watch, you get trailers for a lot of stuff, and why does it matter if it's not a megaton "OMG BLOODBORNE 2 REMAKE/REmaster".
No they always suck. His game awards always have better announcements than his SGFs
I expect lots of free to play games season pass teases..
I'm looking forward to it because there will be a handful of announcements and updates that interest me. But I'm not excited, and I agree with most that he always seems to get better reveals for the game awards. Surely there is a way to reverse that cadence
People are upset that Keighley squashed the hype - would you rather go in hyped up and expecting a lot, so you get disappointed during the thing? Or would you rather be disappointed now, leading up to it?
It does beg the question of what's the point of doing a showcase (sorry, a "Fest") if you don't have much to showcase, though.
If you ask me if I'm hyped for SGF compared to getting needles inserted through my brain, directly injecting ads for Monster Energy, then, yes, I am.
If you ask me if I'm hyped for SGF compared to doing Skull & Bones dailies, I think I'd rather spend my time on the latter, it's more engaging and may lead to surprises.
I miss E3.
@nessisonett Part of that sounds a bit like nostalgia. It's hard to get as hyped for commercials as we did when we were kids and the world had so much less happening. But I do completely agree with you on the impersonal nature of the current events. It felt like before there was room for gaming journalist to be surprised by the games they encountered on the show floor whereas now they only cover the handful of games they get access to and those tend to be known titles from prominent AAA/indie publishers that typically already have hype. I feel like with E3 I would always come away excited for a bunch of smaller games and that doesn't really happen anymore.
@KundaliniRising333 Right?! If he is downplaying the show as an 8/10 I automatically assume it's a 6/10 at best.
TBH, I wouldn't be surprised if there were more interesting 3rd party games at the Xbox showcase
Not hyped, I figure it'll be like the recent State of Play but if Astro Bot was replaced with Fairgame$.
@RBRTMNZ It was gameplay focused with the floor show. That was the best part that’s totally missing from modern events.
Im hyped tbh, I want to see some gameplay and release dates for MGS and Splinter Cell
I'm not too excited for this one. I'll probably just have it on in the background whilst playing something else.
I do miss the old E3 days, they were always so hype.
Honestly I'm more excited for Nintendo's Direct.
@RBRTMNZ Condensing the news to one week were you pay attention and can see it all is kind of the point. A bunch of news bits all at once that you can plan around watching is why people like it. When it's one news thing scattered here and there once a week at 2pm on a random wednesday you basically miss all of it because you're looking for none of it. The collective hype was the charm rather than a background drone of twitter posts that seem kind of irrelevant on their own all year long.
@nessisonett Not just the gameplay. Love them or hate them, the corpos speaking on stage gave context and a breather between trailers so you could get a sense of what's going on. When it's just back to back sizzle reel with no context, no breather, it all just blurrs into a blanket of samey looking things and when it's over I don't even remember what was in there unless it was something with a super stand-out art style like the dress up game or Astrobot. Doesn't matter if it's 30 minutes or 90 minutes. The old format you remember the introduction demarcating the space between each game and its time in space. With the new format you have to look up the list online to remember what you even saw. It's an awful format that somehow seems to resonate with those most plugged into modern media where everything is just a relentless barrage of sound and color with no meaning.
That's the one good thing about Geoff's show vs the Directs is it still has that spacing and context. The problem with his shows is that while you remember what you saw, you wish you didn't because everything there is usually awful.
@Grumblevolcano LOL. And if the cold, corporate Muzak bumpers were replaced with Geoff's face.
I’m more hyped for the Xbox showcase. I think it will actually deliver something substantial to look forward to (there’s rumours of the first glimpse of the Xbox handheld and a major game shadow drop). Last year’s show was great so I hope to be entertained at least.
Now that I know there will be some Alan Wake 2 DLC news...I am VERY excited!!!!
I tend at the moment to look positively at my hobby. I therefore took the most enthusiastic of the options, and I don't really know what I want to see.
I would like, this I do know, to see Kingdom Come II be the game that runs away with the headlines. Maybe a musical number and stage talk + gameplay previews. It deserves to shine in the spotlight in my humble opinion. Being the highlight of a show outta drag new people in. Let's see... what else ...
I'd like to see a new fallout. I /fell/ into Fallout 4 and have been doing a comprehensive playthrough picking at the newly formed seams of the so-far definitive experience of the game. It kinda makes me excited for Starfall to come to PlayStation. Although, as I hear it, updates and expansions are sorely needed.
@NEStalgia Personally I don't miss any news on games I am interested during the noraml news cycle. I think lumping everything together at once makes it harder for the types of interesting game I want to play to stand out from the crowd. All the coverage ends up focused on a handful of big AAA games and indies. Everything else is just kind of shotgun blasted at us in poorly currated "everything we saw" lists.
They don't announce games that interest me anymore. Maybe If I'm lucky they'll show off more gameplay of Frostpunk 2 or something but since I'm not a souls fan it seems like I'm not the target market.
Nope didn't even know it was this week until end of last week.
Then he says dont get hyped 9 out of 10 its stuff you already know about.
Unfortunately gone are the days where we would get excited for E3 game news and reveals happen all year round now and to be honest, its nerfed hype completely.
Doesn't help that playstation have already said their games ain't ready until next march onwards and the best playstation could muster was a 5v5 hero shooter and the life saver astrobot.
I'd be annoyed if playstationed held back a reveal bigger than their own presentation for this. But I dont see it happening.
I do miss E3
I generally only watch the trailers for the games I am interested in after the event. Not sure there will be much here for me this time around. I am interested in how Microsoft announces games and platforms because this is such an unprecedented time on the business side of the industry and its all very interesting to me. However, I can read the press releases later to see the exact language they use so I don't have to tune in.
Here's a hot take. I am enjoying the silence from Sony. The excitement of not knowing what is coming will make the reveals that much sweeter. I prefer this much more to early announcements that take 5+ years to release and may turn to vaporware (i.e., Perfect Dark, TLOU online, Hellblade 2). Keep me in suspense! There are a wealth of games to play right now so I am not currently looking for a new release, but when GoT, TLOU 3, a new Uncharted (from the phantom San Diego studio??) finally do get announced I hope its not through leaks.
Im feeling natural. Not hyped and no hate. Lol.
I’m pretty excited for it. I just want some release dates, so I can plan out the rest of the year in gaming. I want to feel excited about the release slate rather than thinking about trying to find new hobbies.
@NEStalgia No more Riiiiiiidge Racer moments! No more giant enemy crab moments!
PlayStation firmware security and stability updates get me more excited than Summer Game Fest.
Not really, Geoff's events jsut haven't been that good in my opinion. I feel like he's spreading himself to thin trying to 3 in a year. I'll of course watch while I'm working but not expecting much at all
@nessisonett I nearly wept when I got the FFXIV sidequest named "Giant Enemy Crab"
Yeah, it was those sort of shared moments among the gaming community that held it together. I guess I commend Geoff for trying to recreate that, but the vanity fest and corporate sponsors just don't manage to do it.
Although, really, it was Jim Ryan that killed E3. Another thing to thank the bobblehead for. Yeah, it was destroying itself, but it was Jim pulling PS out that really ended it rapidly. People point to the Nintendo Direct, but Nintendo still had the 2nd biggest booth behind Activision. Jim's legacy on gaming may actually surpass Don Matrick's. Don only destroyed his own brand rather than the spirit of the industry itself.
@Czar_Khastik Nah, PSVR2 firmware updates do though. That's the kind of thing you wait all year for, and you never know if it'll really happen.
After Sony's disappointing SoP, this time I'm gonna do what I did for the Game Awards last December, and it turned out better : gonna go in with zero expectations, and enjoy the show for what it is.
If there's gonna be any cool surprise announcements, so much the better, and if not, that's that.
@NEStalgia Combine that with the Dualsense updates and you got yourself a show better than Summer Game Fest
Sad that this is what kids get nowadays. E3 was amazing in the late 90s to early 00s, now we get Geoff 🤣🤣
@Czar_Khastik Don't forget the Edge controller. It's the only accessory even more abandoned than PSVR2. At least people remember PSVR2 exists and mock and ridicule it. Nobody even remembers to ridicule the Edge....
There will likely be some stuff I'm looking forward to, like Remedy teased Alan Wake 2 DLC. But I'm not expecting anything too crazy.
I'm excited for the week as a whole (2 weeks if we want to include the recent sony show). All shows combined is pretty exciting but any one of them is not that exciting.
Jesus what a bunch of doom and gloom gamers here
I’ll watch it.
Not excited for it or anything, mildly interested I guess.
But there’s normally way to much waffling that 98% of the audience don’t want.
Till yesterday, I had no idea SGF was happening this week. Wish I could forget I found out. I expect very little. Maaaaaaaybe a Silksong reveal but that's it.
@Xbox_Dashboard Are you not excited to find out about the latest sneaker trends in gaming?
@Savage_Joe Good point I forgot about it myself. I'll give people slack on that though because it's a truly specialty market product you either need or don't so people forget about it. The rest of the stuff is forgotten because Sony lost the script.
Since we don’t have E3 it’s the next best thing, I guess.
Him saying to get expectations in check is one thing but if the industry thinks besides Indies we LOVE the same IPs, sequels, DLC trends their dead from the feet up. Were seeking something else yet they waste us gamers time.
I go in open minded with no expectations ever because I have only like 1 game at best or none I care about each year from these events and everything else is from other Indies or AAs I already know about from articles not part of these events or on the shelf so this event highlights games I don't actually care about and articles offer me what I always know about, didn't or want then these all in 1 place type events do. XD What excitement.
For those needing a space to show off their games it makes total sense but many get forgotten, too many get revealed and many look similar over time and blend together.
Like other than seeing Bokeh aka Splitter head or others (not in it as not the horror level I can stomach) others I probably wouldn't care for anyway.
So if I care to see studios get trailers out as a industry on looker more than genuinely products I care about buying that says a lot.
The only thing to praise is if the transitions/time spent with Devs/publisher
figures telling us things are worth it, don't drag on and more it's why I don't mind waiting then skipping the segments I don't care about. Otherwise couldn't care less.
Geoff knows us as well as himself he is only interested in certain games. Big or small.
The event makes sense but most games are not as exciting as they were years ago of experimental design or varied stand out experiences let alone BETTER MARKETING then formulaic marketing insert here
That's not even counting more out there E3 or other stages. Or if the events were eh the games were still good or the games were bad but still good stage events.
So the event has a place but the sponsors, the games, the interviews and eh trailers fall flat for exciting.
This is why we aren't excited every year is eh Indies fitting a trend with like 20+ of a similar game/setting, some stand out Indies of course, odd 'new' IPs or spin offs from or sequels from AA and we get eh AAA so why 'have more trailers' for what we ALREADY KNOW ABOUT THERE IS NOTHING EXCITING JUST THE NEXT CGI TRAILER IN THE REVEAL OR ANNOUNCEMENT, STORY, GAMEPLAY,, LAUNCH, etc. process we all know at this point so why should we care.
Just hoping Keighley can find the class to wear shoes, rather than his appalling sneakers. with his odd suits.
The fact barely any of these games or patches will be out before the Christmas period means we don’t need to see an announcement live.
The only real reason to watch these things is if you like mocking a developers facial hair or to see how much importance an executive places on social media numbers connected to their game dressed in a suit jacket and jeans.
Games are going downhill...
2022 Only 3 good/decent games released
2023 2 games
2024 0 games "including Pre-orders"
I remember being young and reading the first EGM and GamePro that came out after E3. There were sooo many games, and everything seemed so cool. The whole production looked absolutely amazing, and were talking by 90s tech standards. I always dreamed of going to one. Too bad that whole thing fell apart the way it did.
Not really excited. Geoff told us not to be.
The best way to watch the Summer Game Fest is with a 1-2 hour delay. Then you can watch or skip any trailers you do or don't care about. I did this last year and it was a pretty enjoyable experience.
@mctaboo Dude, seriously? If you think only 5 good games have come out in the past 3 years then you need to seriously branch out more. Indie games are better than they have ever been before with creativity shooting out of their butts. If you think gaming sucks right now then you are BARELY even trying to find good games.
I’d like to go in with low expectations so I can’t be disappointed. I don’t really know what to expect, and I don’t want to get hyped until something is worth being hyped over. For now, I’ll just remain cautiously optimistic.
@B_Lindz I was talking about big studio games, and yes you're totally right, I've been mainly playing indie games because of that, I used to play around 10% indie but now it's more than 80%.
@mctaboo Oh! Dude, that's awesome! I sorry for my misunderstanding. I'm with you there. All I ever play now are indies. They're carrying the game industry right now.
Don't worry about it brother, I wasn't specific enough, and I do appreciate your replies.
@NEStalgia Wow, you're right. Even I didn't remember the Edge, so I guess it's up to us to make sure it isn't forgotten to be ridiculed
I'll watch it later without all the talking heads crap.
@Czar_Khastik I tried to type this reply on my edge controller in the PS5 browser, but the PS5 has no browser and the edge battery ran out while in the search bar looking for it.
I am the King of Managed Expectations so I do really look forward to these things because the most I expect is updates on stuff, the bigger stuff I'm hoping for is gameplay reveals for games we've only seen in CG trailer form before and even then I don't expect much... There are soooooo many cool looking CG trailers with no actual gameplay, so there is plenty that could show up.
No, it’s just gonna be disappointments as usual .
@NEStalgia Bad luck. On the other hand, I liked all your comments from my 13-year-old PS Vita which has a browser and an old functional battery
The underwhelming State of Play and general lack of excitement in the upcoming schedule lowers expectations but I'll keep tabs on this.
Isn't Summer beginning on June 20th?
Don’t care at all, I’ll catch a recap
I saw a glimpse of SF 6 from the teaser trailer and that's probably the only one i want to know if Capcom gonna show Season 2 characters or not. But overall i'm not hype.
Nope. It's all rubbish compared to the old e3 shows.
Now we have Geoff's shows which feel like a mix of the nickelodeon kids choice awards and the home shopping network & abysmal state of plays.
I could never understand why so many were happy for e3 going away, hope you're happy, I blame you!
Nothing more than a vehicle for ads driven by Keighley.
Nope - not really.
Damming stats! I hope this is a fun event
I'm not expecting much. June is no longer the massive showcase it used to be. SGF usually disappoints and the only big show is going to be the Xbox showcase and we all know how that will play out: xbots will say Xbox is back and hype everything and then everyone will forget about it when the games either don't come out or come out to middling or poor reception. It happens literally every year with Xbox. I'm just tired of Playstation holding back.
Not a fan of "Summer Game Fest" and of Geoff Keighley. He's cringe. For me it's just a time of year where there are slightly more game announcements as usual.
@Ichiban I don't think i ever see anyone who say they wants E3 to go away. And you should pointed your finger at ESA because they're the main culprit who killed E3. They never fix the problems that keeps happening year after year and gave reasons for every company to abandon E3.
Imagine you're on Sony shoes or MS, EA, Ubisoft, Nintendo, etc who paid a lot of money at LA Convention Center, hired people to build your giant booth, make a gameplay demo that took development time from your devs, and rent the big hall for presscon only to see your games got leaked on the internet one day before the presscon.
Not to mention, back in 2019 there was a leak of personal data for 2000 people who attended E3 and it can be access through ESA site. That leak impact some journalist who got doxxed and received death threats because their private data can be access by some psychos.
So i'm not surprised if Sony, MS, Nintendo, etc decided to abandond E3 because they can save resources and avoid all the headache from E3.
