It's been a long time coming, but Alan Wake 2 is actually here. The survival horror sequel promises a crazy level of cinematic quality, coupled with intense psychological scares. It's been getting some seriously impressive review scores, and much like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 did a week or so ago, it's stormed the ongoing Game of the Year conversation.
We called Remedy's latest "A nightmare we never want to wake up from" in our Alan Wake 2 PS5 review, awarding it an 'outstanding' 10/10 score — a real rarity, as our regular readers will know. "What Remedy has cooked up here is something special — a gust of fresh air aiming to revitalise video game horror," we wrote. "With stunning visuals, pitch-perfect tone and atmosphere, brilliant pacing, and a fascinating mystery to sink your teeth into, there are no twists or turns about it: Alan Wake 2 is an all-timer."

Played the first Alan wake on 360 haven’t played American nightmare or control so hoping I don’t miss out on to many references, I tried control but all the red rooms put me off but I’ll go back to it, played the first 30 mins of AW2 can’t wait to play more!
Meant to buy Alan Wake Remastered on sale b4 this came out and… oops
Excited to play this down the road though. I was obsessed with Control, absolutely fantastic game.
Of course not, this game doesn't exist yet.
Yeah i'm playing it and so far its been excellent.
@Nintendo4Sonic 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
I was way more excited for this game than Spider-Man but unfortunately it being digital I can't put it on birthday list and I'm busy doing other games at the moment.I'll definitely get it soon though!
Yes I'm playing this, only an hour or so in but loving it so far. I played the original and liked the story but wasn't a huge fan of the gameplay but really like Control.
Playing this on a high end PC and it looks stunning, possibly the best looking game I've played on it including Cyberpunk, more importantly the game is really good
First AW for me, apart from Control I suppose, and it's really quite amazing.
But wow was I not ready for jumpscares! Now I'm playing it with one eye closed
Remedy really know how to immerse you in a special world.
Need a "I'll buy it when it comes out on disc" option.
Digital only so I will wait.
If there were a “not buying it because there’s not a physical version” option, I’d select that. It’s a shame, because I really enjoyed Alan Wake 1 and Control. Just can’t be a part of encouraging companies to eliminate player choice of buying digital vs buying physical.
Like a bunch of others, I would have brought at launch but with it being digital only, I'll buy down the line. It looks great though, hope folks who are playing enjoy!
Got the remastered original for the PS5 and was surprised how much I disliked it. I love horror in general and had read so much hype about it, and found it a dull slog that I never bothered finishing. Thus, not really too excited about the sequel.
Sitting on my hard drive. Likely jumping in tonight, unless I show some modicum of restraint and finish Control DLC first.
Not yet but i will.alan wake 2 looks fantastic.more games is welcome.word up son
Oh, yes, I’m playing it as soon as I can!
Im saving it to play on Halloween 🎃
@DennisReynolds sorry, that I have a different opinion than you.
'Course! Finished Alan Wake Remastered last week in anticipation of the sequel.
Will wait for physical and hope that Control 2 doesn’t follow this same path when it eventually comes out.. disappointed as I only found out Wednesday that it was digital only
Playing Alan Wake remastered at the moment. I think it's my least favourite Remedy game but really looking forward to diving into AW2, maybe next year.
Wasn't gonna get this til next week but after all the reviews, I ended up "restructuring" my finances and got it today. Just finished installing and I'm going to check it out in around 4 hours. I can't wait!!
Not playing it right now, even though I really liked the first one, still have the CE for XBOX360 from when it came out.
Since there's no physical edition I won't buy the game, I'll play it for free at some point.
Completed the first one multiple times amd love it but waiting for a sale on the second one. I almost never pay full price for a digital game. I probably won't check this one out until its $20 somewhere.
@Nintendo4Sonic Its not an opinion. You said the game doesn't exist yet clearly it does, an opinion is not opinion if it gets in the way of facts.
I’m playing it. I’m enjoying it, but I don’t see how it got 10/10.
I'm playing the 1st one. Loved Control, and will play AW2 later!
Remedy games always look awesome but when I play them they just don't click with me. I've tried three of them altogether and I'm probably yet to reach the mid way point in any of them so I guess I'll be giving this one a pass too, as cool as it looks.
I have never played Alan Wake before since I never owned an Xbox of any flavor. With the reception of Alan Wake 2 though, I am definitely interested but would wanna play the first game and even Control before hand (plus it gives time to see if the publisher changes their mind over a physical release).
It was pre-installed and is ready to go! I'll play it as soon as I've finished the remaster of the first one. It's one of my favourite games on the Xbox 360 and I'm so thrilled that it got a sequel after so long. Really excited to play it as soon as I can!
I never finished the first one! I probably should, as it’s a the closest I’ll get to playing a Stephen King video game
I just can't really afford full price games, so I'm gonna have to wait for a sale at some point. Pretty hyped for it tho.
I definitely want to but I gotta play the original (remastered) first.
Not a horror fan in general but it looks great.
Oh look - an article on Alan Wake 2. Did you also send an email alert out to everyone who likes to routinely post repetitive comments about there not being a disc version?
I enjoyed Alan Wake and its big Stephen King inspired Story on the 360 - also liked American Nightmare too but didn't like Quantum Break or Control so I am not convinced by this - looks good but something is telling me to wait on this....
@Wazeddie22 That’s what PS store gift cards are for 😉 🎁
Absolutely no f-ing way. Its way too good looking and immersive and I'm too much of a wuss. That gameplay trailer was enough for me. I can appreciate it's easily one of the best looking games of all time but it's just not for me. Now if you don't mind I'll go back to ignoring Alien Isolation for another six years
Busy with other games at the moment, but I'll get to it eventually.
I did 100% complete Alan Wake Remastered a month ago or so, and while it wasn't exactly a new favorite of mine, I'm kind of intrigued about what they'll do with its story and characters in the sequel.
Yes, I started it today. Finished and platinumed Marvel's Spider-Man 2 after 30 hours and got 2 hours of Alan Wake 2 today. It's really good so far.
@DennisReynolds actually you paid a lot of money for owning nothing. You're just a number on a server.
I hope you're proud, that you supported Remedy in just giving you a download for a full price.
From reading the comments, a lot of people are on a right track. Remedy will see, that they made a mistake.
@Totheteeth so you think everyone should just accept this? It's good, that sometimes people resist, that's the way change works.
That's power of will.
@Nintendo4Sonic I don't think you understand how digital gaming works 😂 You do understand though that most games sell better digital nowadays? Chances are the PS6 won't even have disc drive so while my gaming collection will carry over with all upgrades from the PS6 applying to them your collection is stuck on an aged PS5 in the loft.
@Bentleyma people tend to root for the underdog. Spider-Man 2 was highly anticipated by nearly everyone (going to sell millions) so it works against it. Alan Wake 2 is largely overlooked (going to underperform) so it works for it.
Won't buy the game as long as there is only one forced option from which to do so
Would love to give it a play but my backlog is BAD and I need to play Baldur's Gate 3
I can’t decide, half way through remaster and not enjoying it, mainly the camera and it feels like a dated slog. (Fully appreciate at the time why folk would have loved it).
But have loved all the other games and 2 does look good….. I’m just struggling to finish 1 so 🤷🏻♂️
@ear_wig Alan Wake was the free game on PS Plus a few months ago.
@DennisReynolds I see, you feel very safe with buying stuff digital.
We all saw what can happen, when Google Stadia died, you own nothing in the end. Also, games vanish online. You just get, what companies are about to share to you. But go on, live in your bubble. 😉
@Scoot23 The gameplay is dated, but power through and you'll find a very engrossing story.
Playing it and loving it. I've waited 13 years to see how Alan Wake escapes the Dark Place and what we got is nearly perfect.
I'm no spending 50+$ on a digital license! I'll pass. i'm sure its a gonna be fine game but sorry I can't take in consideration if there are no physical copy.
3 hrs or less in, loving it so far, highly recommend that you play the first Alan Wake.
Yes yes yes! I still have my original X360 copy from 2010. It use to be one of those games I'd play like every other Halloween. Never thought a sequel would be made.
@DennisReynolds @Nintendo4Sonic my physical copies is entitled for upgrade the same as yours!
what if the ps6 is not backward compatible? new technology or something, you will be stuck with all these digital licenses you wast your money buy.
but the almighty physical owners we decide what to do with our games

I did try recently the first one, well what a crappie game. The calisto protocol is my choice, what a game.
@Scoot23 I have the same experience, and I just ended deleting it. Try Calisto protocol, great game with stunning visuals
I was very cool on the first one, I finished it but it really rubbed me the wrong way. Loved Control and they seem to have done a really good job on this, so it’s peaked my interest. I’m pretty much only buying digital now, so not bothered about a physical copy
@ear_wig That's true but no-one gets me those anymore because they are 'boring' presents.😅
@Nintendo4Sonic They can resist by not buying it (which won’t bring about change because it’s a trend which can’t be fought anyway).
It’s just intensely tedious to have to read comment after comment after comment saying exactly the same thing over and over again on EVERY single article relating to this game …
@DrVenture69 Don’t let the ‘physical release only’ gestapo of Pushsquare hear you say that!
@ToTheTeeth, each to their own😂. I understand if someone wants to sell it afterwards. I’ve never sold a game, even ones I hate. I’ve still got all my Atari ST games and I’d still have the Spectrum cassettes except they were thrown out. Gutted!
I have not watched any trailer or anything about this game but I thought it will be similar like Control (fps), but it seems like it's more like investigating the Alan Wake universe further and story-based. For biggest fans I'm sure this is like game of the century, and it's fine for me, we all have different taste.
@Nintendo4Sonic Google Stadia was streaming and if something gets delisted on PSN you still own it if you bought it, for instance you can't buy Marvel Ultimate Alliance on PSN anymore but because i bought it when you could i can download it anytime i want. There's also consumer laws that still apply.
@SHAMROKH I highly doubt it won't be backwards compatible.
Played and loved all Remedy titles that released on PlayStation. Currently still playing Spider-Man 2 and Baldur's Gate 3.
Due to the lack of a physical version I'll wait for Alen Wake 2 until it's a deep sale.
was up late last nite with it didn’t Wake too smart 🥴
@Wazeddie22 Why can't a digital game be added to your b-day list? It can be purchased digitally for you, or ask for a gift card so you can buy it.
@Almost_Ghostly yeah exactly but my family refuse to buy gift cards, find them boring, doesn't matter what the person receiving it thinks lol
No worries I'll still buy it myself soon anyway.
@theSpectre I remember that! Tempted me to renew my subscription, but alas… nah!
Looking forward to it, but the announcement of 2 story DLCs in 2024 means I'll wait to play it until the whole story is done.
I can't since I don't have a ps5 yet but I would still wait for a physical release anyway.
Yeah, tag team with SM2
Big Remedy fan, and they delivered again.
Nah. First game sucked immensely and so did Control. Have no desire for a 3peat
Kept having trouble getting away from this game over the weekend. Soooooooo good. Easily my GoTY so far. Nothing, even BG3, comes close IMO. So well designed and unlike anything before.
That perfect 10 score here was spot on! This is how you raise the bar, not only for a sequel but for next gen gaming.
Didn't play the first game but I'm already seeing it being called Alan woke 2. So probably won't bother as its a heavy narrative experience rather than gameplay heavy experience. Graphics look lovely though.
@BAMozzy That is a wise decision. Holy cra* I was fooled by the review. If anyone is calling Death Stranding a walking simulation, then what is AW2...?
I am shocked by this game. It's slow, disorienting, little to no gameplay for long periods of time, a lot of tiresome 'mind place' drivel which is unneccessary and breaks the pace (if there is any) and I could go on. I genuinely don't understand the high rating. I would say this is a 5 or 6, maybe 7 at best.
