Assassin's Creed Mirage is out now on PS5 and PS4, and we want to know if you're partaking in Ubisoft's latest sandbox. A return to the gameplay structure of older Assassin's Creed games with a focus on stealth, rather straightforward objectives, and a much smaller map, Mirage is pretty much the title that some fans have been asking for, following on from years of open world action RPGs.
"Assassin's Creed Mirage sets off in search of its roots, and it finds them — both for better and worse," is what we wrote in our Assassin's Creed Mirage PS5 review. "Undeniably basic in its approach to stealth and combat, it feels oddly dated in terms of design, but it's also a refreshing reminder of the series' original strengths. Ultimately, it's a solid sandbox title, and it successfully scratches the hidden blade itch that was so clearly absent in Odyssey and Valhalla," we concluded, awarding the game a 'good' 7/10.

I'm starting it momentarily! Very excited to finally play it!
Played it for a short while this afternoon and I’m enjoying it so far. Looking forward to getting my teeth stuck in later this eve
I think I'll get it on a sale later. Too busy with other games.
Not yet.but i will definitely will.i enjoy both the old assassins creed games and the rpgs assassins creed games.my backlogs of games is huge.and im having lots of fun with my backlogs of games that im playing. .word up son
I played them all minus Valhalla (playing it right now) and this one just looks... boring.
Yes I am. I am a huge AC fan since the original, in fact the trailer before the release on E3 blew my mind back in the day and I fell in love. Valhalla was mediocre and the plat was grindy and bad, but the Ezio trilogy is just one of the best trilogies ever. I am excited for this return to roots and thank God it's a smaller game
It's enjoyable for what it is but very mid (I lean towards a 6). Not exactly a breath of fresh air for the franchise, nor did Ubi promise it would be. So I'm okay with a serving of comfort food/guilty pleasure.
No chance im starting an assassins creed (even a shorter one) 15 days out from Spiderman 2. But i'll definitely pick this up in due course
Already started and am really enjoying it. I loved the big, open worlds of Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla, but having a smaller game that's more based on stealth is not a bad thing and helps keep the series interesting (I've only played Syndicate out of the older style games so this type of gameplay is still new to me).
Playing it on Xbox Series S (through Ubisoft+) and I have to say, it looks so good. I've only seen a fraction of the city but it already seems like it will be a lot of fun to explore the rest of it. For me, the cities and worlds they create is one of the series strong points, so seeing Baghdad look great makes the game even more enjoyable.
It's basically Valhalla with more stealth emphasis minus rpg elements...... And looks like a ps4 game with 60fps update on ps5
I’ll snag it once it hits the $20-$30 mark. I like the more condensed and assassin focused games over the “open-world RPG” fluff of the newer titles. So yeah, this seems up my ally. Just not for $50 with all the other blockbuster releases coming out now.
Saw 3 reviews 6/10, 1 5/10 review..
Seems a pass for me maybe, will need check gameplays.
@Jtheripper and there are plenty of 9/10 and 8/10 reviews. For whatever reason, it seems to be a game that has divided critics, with some sites giving completely different opinions about the exact same thing in the game (the characters, for example).
For what it's worth, most people I've seen who've actually played it have said it is fun. Not a world-changing game or anything, but almost no games are.
Last AC I played was Black Flag. My money is towards Spider Mane 2. Finishing up AC 6 this weekend.
Starting it later today. Honestly, I’m actually pretty excited. I liked what I read from reviews and I think this could be a blast from the past… uh… literally. I mean, I also really enjoy Valhalla too, so getting Basim’s backstory sounds good to me as well.
I find it interesting that ppl wanted the older stealth style gameplay, and yet ppl are moaning that this game doesn't bring anything new. Haters gonna hate!
I had every intention of buying day one but after hearing the story and characters aren’t interesting, it’s made me hold off.
Playing it tomorrow when payday hits.
I'll wait for a sale. These old ones are my cup of tea. I played Odyssey and, while it was pretty great, the grindiness got stale after a bit.
Play it at some point, as a kind of Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla DLC. But I'm not nearly as excited about it as I would have been if it was something other than a prequel to Valhalla.
Were they going to keep using Basim/Mr. Mischief in the future titles too? I've genuinely lost track of AC. I think it set up future use. And if they are going to keep using him, I guess this will be worth playing at some point, for the full arc?
If this came out 2 week's earlier I'd have got it but not enough time to get it finished before Spiderman 2 so it'll have to wait until after that.
Looks great though
I have assassin's creed fatigue & distaste so it's a no go for me.
The reviews and the gameplays I saw did not convince me at all. It's like a McDonald's cheeseburger. The quality is let's say Ok, the price tag is also Ok but I had it so many times that I just do not want it anymore except when I'm drunk. Anyways, I'm still playing lies of p and I'm looking forward to spiderman and Alan wake so... maybe when it's half the price.
Anyone else find the movement controls a bit strange/weird?
Played most of them, will be giving this a miss.
The chromatic aberration in assassin's creed mirage is so bad it's making the game almost un playable for me. It's so blurry and looks such a mess. Along with motion blur and there's no option to turn off either setting....
Was really looking forward to it but after playing about 20 minutes it starts to hurt my eyes give me a headache and feeling abit Ill, along with it being super distracting....
Considering the amount of people kicking off Over it I'm Suprised most of the reviews never mentioned it as its legit possiblely the worst I've seen....
I will probably get it on a deep sale. Odyssey and Valhalla were too long. Felt like a chore halfway through. I don’t like to quit games halfway, always finish a game that I start. I really enjoyed Origins and Black Flag and hated how they minimized ships later on. Recent AC games are beautiful but I have found them rather boring and dull. Kind of burned out at the moment, need a break from AC games.
People: We wish Assassins Creed would return to their roots!
Ubisoft: Returns Assassins Creed to it's roots
People: This feels so dated!
Like most of these I'll get it on a deep sale. I love seeing and exploring the historical locations but rarely finish them
I don’t plan on playing this one unless it hits PS+. I didn’t really like Basim in Valhalla, and it sounds like this game is everything I was bored of prior to Origins. Not to say the series didn’t need change bc it did, but going backwards isn’t the answer.
Can't decide if I'm going to buy it now or wait till my birthday in November.I'm excited to play it but it's not like I have nothing else to play at the moment..
Yes and it feels a bit clunky as far as movement goes. Not really good enough for 2023.
@IronMike yes, it just doesn’t feel very fluid.
I wasn't sure if want to buy it on launch or later. But in the end, I ordered it at Amazon.
Played a bit today and like it so far.
I was off with this series for some years and the never played the last 3 RPG entries.
Played them all since the PS3. Black Flag onwards are better than the original games. Mirage is a better version of AC 1&2.
Huge Assassins Creed fan, it’s my favorite IP, but I am not going to start playing it until im done with Starfield’s main quest. Then I’ll subscribe to UBisoft+ on Xbox (Don’t think it’s available on PlayStation) and play Mirrage.
Just picked my pre-order of the Deluxe Edition, waiting for it to install. I've played most of the AC games with the exception of Bloodlines, the DS game and the smaller releases on mobile devices. This is the most I've looked forward to a new entry in a while though. As much as I like Origin, Odyssey and Valhalla, I missed the old gameplay of 1-Syndicate and I'm happy to have it back, never grew tired of that formula.
That's an interesting poll, the difference between vote 4 and 5 is quite subtle.
Call me cheap, but I'm gonna wait for the sale. Ubisoft got discount pretty quick.
I’ve never played any of the games, but kind of interested in trying this one. Never really had any kind of want to play them.
I'll buy the game during a holiday sail. It's only a month until that season starts and I have other games to get through until then. I'm excited to return to the AC world since I haven't played a game since AC Unity.
Too many games right now, will play this later though. Looking forward to it!
It's funny how the same people who complained about the past two games and demanded a game like prior titles are now complaining when ubisoft give them what they want.
Game is decent, could be better, could be worse
I'm actually going to play Unity for the first time soon. Probably on PC with some quality-of-life mods. I'll pick this up in a few months in a sale.
Bring back the Desmond and the apple story and il play it.
I've written about it before and I'll do so again.
Reset the series entirely. Give the new Assassins Creed series a third word in its title.
First new scenario :- WW2. British naval vessel on a spy mission in the north sea. Ship is hunted and sunk by a wolfpack. Lots of the crew are captured. Early on whilst in captivity you as the ship's captain reveal to the crew this truly was a spy mission and as such you are all spies and not subject to the Geneva convention for the treatment of captives. You have to escape, steal a new model of U-boat and get home.
You do so but also find intel that many members of your crew are scattered throughout Europe. You get back to the UK with the new sub. The Navy realises it may be strength to have a crew written off as dead or MIA in their new cruiser crew with the new stolen sub as a constant escort . This decision is encouraged by a high ranking admiral who inducts you into the Illuminati. Thus your
WW 2 sea faring creed adventure begins. Take over bases, invade inland to rescue crew members and hunt the wolf packs all the while working out who the head of the European branch on the Templars is.....not Hitler....but Stalin.
Just an idea
I haven't got it yet because I'm playing Valhalla. After it, Mirage is a sure buy!!!!
Like my approach to all Assasin's Creed games at this point, if I see it on sale for £15 in CEX a few years from now I'll probably pick it up.
I've played every mainline AC game shortly after release, but I'm absolutely not excited for this one. Going away from the RPG style, which was the best thing they ever did, is a huge gut punch for me. I'll eventually buy it on clearance or play it on PS+ sometime later on.
I dabbled in the first two but then really played the last three. I hope this is like Origins but a lot smaller. I really don't want every game to be 80-120 hours anymore.
I’ve played most of the series (I skipped a few after 3) and enjoyed Origins and Odyssey (especially the later). That being said, while Valhalla was so big I got bored with it and never finished it, this return to the older style of games doesn’t interest me, either. Feels like a “been there, done that” to me. I also found Basim (and all of the Valhalla characters, really) deeply uninteresting, so I’m not excited to play as him. I hope those playing really enjoy it and have a good time with it, but I’ll be skipping this one.
I am playing it and have a great time with it. The best critic are you
It's not bad but it's more like a hybrid of old and new games but took the bad stuff from valhalla like barricaded doors and a much smaller skill tree. I rekon ubisoft will make basim the main character for the next few games like ezio trilogy
I'll get to it, but not right now. Too much going on and too much to play.
Nope, and I got zero interest. Completely over that franchise.
An Ubisoft short game? Yeah I like the idea but definitely waiting for it to come to ps plus extra eventually, no hurry at all
@Jammsbro
It plays like the original games. If you were looking for something similar to Origins, you'll likely be disappointed. I like the old style better so I'm happy with the change.
I'll play it, but i have too much other games on my plate right now.
combined with the knowledge that Ubisoft games always go on Sale really quickly, i'll prolly get it for BF or Christmas.
@Nexozi The problems lie more in the fact that it doesn't have low/high profile and isn't half as ambitious a game as Unity was. I'm feeling very divided about Mirage so far.
@Deityjester It's not enough like the old games without low/high profile and lacking all of the advancements (like with parkour) and ambition that Unity had. I really like some things they've done like the notoriety system, but some of it feels like it got build on a shaky RPG trilogy groundwork instead of going back and building off of Unity. The game should also have too much going on in order to work on a PS4.
This is a step in the right direction and an infinitely better Assassin's Creed game than the past three games that just spit on the franchise and mocked it by throwing the entire identity of the series, but it's still not good enough and doesn't meet prior standards set by the series to be truly lauded as great from what I've played of it.
I still miss the high/low profile controls of the older games. Having those modes made slower sneaky movement easier and natural. The newer games the character just wants to run everywhere.
Let me slow down. Miss that badass walk from the pre-Origins games.
@Jaz007 Yes, still missing high/low profile. I don't know why they got rid of it, haven't really enjoyed a game since they did.
No, not playing yet. It's a bog standard 3rd party multiplat and Black Friday is right around the corner. You never pay full price for a multiplat, exclusives are generally the only games worth that.
@Gamer83 Why didn't you buy the superior digital edition? You wouldn't be waiting as it would have downloaded when you were asleep. Instead you wasted time and fuel to buy an inferior product? Imagine going to buy a CD in 2023, or going to Blockbuster to rent a movie, which admittedly would be cool for nostalgia purposes but wouldn't make a lick of sense. Same with physical collector's. If you're buying to stare at it, get a poster. If you're going to trade it when you're done, don't buy it to begin with.
@RobynAlecksys
Don't worry about how I choose to spend my money or consume products.
@Jaz007 parkour in unity really isn't all that great, if you watch videos or play it you'll see when jumping you get sucked in by the surface or window you are jumping to/out of and anyway unity was lampooned for years, now all of a sudden it's some kinda cult classic.
Like i said ubisoft can't win because people are constantly complaining and nitpicking that is the average person hobby to dunk on ubisoft or bethesda.
I'm just too busy with other loooonnnnnng games at the moment so it'll be put on the 'buy in a sale' pile. If I hadn't been elbow deep in other stuff it would've been a day oner though.
@Deityjester I’ve played over 100H of Unity, started playing it a few months after launch when it had been patched, and have been telling everyone Unity has the best parkour and is the best AC game in the series since then.
It works very well and functions better the rest of the series making it much more fluid by letting you go diagonally and down,, and certainly Mirage, which while I’m enjoying, is built on a shaker groundwork from Valhalla.
Unity is now getting the respect it deserves and I’ve been pushing for.
AC stunk after AC3....Origins, story good, but game way to big, then Odyssey went stupid, and Valhalla was just a flipping joke.
Mirage returned mostly to the roots of the game. Plays fairly well. People saying 25hrs are literally burning through the game. I'm over 30 hrs and barely have 2 districts completed.
My only problems w/ it are:
Parkour goes willynilly and you end up somewhere other than where you aimed at...
Sprinting isn't much of a sprint if you slow down to every bump, nudge, or rock in the road...
None of the weapons are focused on stealth...Only three of the outfits are ment for that game play.
Ubi is yet again forcing players to focus more on open conflict/melee bs, which I hate.
Otherwise, game is 8/10 IMO...
Toodles!
Combat's a little clunky. First thing anyone should do (PS5) is remap the controller. I feel like I could dodge/parry better using my toes.
The story is fun, the stealth is okay at best, enhanced only by the hidden blade's kill scenes. I hope everyone loves two to three shades of tan.
