I'm playing through the back log at the moment, but I'll definitely get around to it sooner than later.
Waiting for more info on what will be playable in VR, more than enough to be playing at the moment.
@PenguinLtd framerate mode only has a few drops. really hasn't been an issue with their default settings. if you turn on RT you'll want a VRR screen
I want to get it, but I have a flight to catch on Thursday to South Korea. So my goal is to buy it when I get back
I'm playing the Switch port of the original! I did have the original on pre order when it launched on GameCube, so far with the new version I've only played the demo on PS4.
@PenguinLtd it's not great. I'm waiting to see if Capcom takes the time to try and fix the Ps5 specific technical (visuals and framerate), issues which are significant enough on fidelity mode to not even keep the framerate withing the PS5 limited vrr range along with the controller calibration issues (which is really bad on Xbox, but still not good on PS5).
Check out the second DF video for specifics. (the first was a glorified marketing video).

I actually never played the original, as it came out during a time in my life where I was in adventure mode. So I really want to play this updated version, just not in such a technically unpolished state. Especially as a cross Gen title.
Yes. I’ve played the original so many times but playing the remake is like playing a brand new game because I hardly remember any of it. Except the Verdugo… as soon as I read ‘liquid nitrogen’ I knew what was coming 😫. The game is brilliant so far. I loved the reworked Ashley sections. Plus, you’re not constantly being pursued which already makes it my new favourite REmake.
Can't really vote yet. Only done a couple hours on Saturday evening up to the first Merchant. Life busy atm. First impressions is a good one. Still obviously feels very much like the original but it's so much more richer in detail and starts out much darker at night unlike the original in day grey mushy browns all the time. Aiming and moving at the same time just feels so much more fluid for RE4 in the action moments. Ive noticed the Gonodo whatever theyre called sound far more creepier in the backgrounds just before you about to take them on and sometimes when you hear them it's tricky finding out exactly where they are which does add a bit of tension. Nothing genuinely creepy or scary yet, although I'm only a couple hours in
I've played RE4 many times before and I'm still working on Trails to Azure so I held off for now. I'm sure I'll buy it at some point though.
No but I am playing the RE3 remake that was £8 on PS Store sale the other day. Much more affordable.
Will get around to this some day.
Other then some minor visual issues its been fantastic, deep into the Castle now.
Waiting on news on whether the full game will be in VR, and with trophy support this time (shame on you Village!). If the answer to either of those is no, then I’ll likely never play it.
Just finished it today in hardcore mode actually. 10/10 best remake so far
Yes i shall defo get this as played a few times on ps2,could anyone say that's along way through this remake without spoiling anything on whether it's worth full price (I know its very subjective),but just trying to get a heads up on quality, quantity of re4 remake that's all
It's better than dead space and i LOVE dead space.
I've only played re4 remake demo on ps5 which I very much enjoyed ,sure re4 remake full game will be fantastic as i loved the ps2 version
I've already beaten it twice, and I love this game, it's hitting as good as Elden Ring did last year.
Don't think I'll get the plat though. Getting S+ on professional seems waaaaaay too hard.
I am having an amazing time with this game. Its clicking with me more than any other RE game I've played. I am usually not a huge fan of the inventory management or the combat but for some reason this one finds the sweet spot for everything. Beautiful visuals as well and smooth performance in my experience
My copy will arrive tomorrow. Pretty excited to start it after playing the demo.
Started on hardcore, since the game says it's for RE4 veterans and its really damn hard, the enemies are super aggressive, kind of scary.
I’m doing my usual: waiting a year or two and buying it with all the patches, for a much lower price. Resident Evil 4 is one of my favourite games of all time, so I’m looking forward to playing the remake eventually
In the meantime, I’m planning to do a full playthrough of all Resident Evil games, starting with 0, then the remakes of 1, 2, and 3, Code: Veronica, and Revelations 1 and 2. After I buy 4 remake I’ll play that and maybe replay 5, and attempt to play 6, 7, and 8.
4 and 5 are the only games in the series I’ve completed, so it should be fun to experience most of the games for the first time. I can’t guarantee that I’ll play 7, because I’m a wimp when it comes to first-person horror games. I wish Capcom would make a third-person mode like they did with the DLC for 8.
Nope... same way I did not spend time or money on rehash Metroid or DeadSpace.
Make something new.
Yup, I played a bit over the weekend. Unfortunately I couldn’t get very far as I was bit busy but I’m definitely coming back to it.
I'm about to finally start the Resident Evil 3 remake, then once I beat that I'll move on to 4.
Playing it and loving it! Took me a WHILE to get the options/controls (camera, DoF, etc.) right though, was experiencing a lot of motion sickness playing the first few hours. They need to add a “camera deceleration” slider please!
PS - the parrying is a total game changer! I’ve already fully upgraded my knife durability; absolutely essential in this version!
RE4 is the best RE for me personally (one of the best NGC titles) so I didn't mind a remake of this game. Normally I'd rather like to see new IP's but in the RE case I wouldn't mind a Dino Crisis of Code Veronica.
I would like to know how much work/costs the RE remakes are in compairison to a new RE. I mean they have the experience with 2 & 3 so they most getting better at it! Or do they have a special Capcom team for these remakes?
Yes, I'm playing Resident Evil 4 since last week, except not the remake.😆 At least the second poll has room for me since I naturally can't claim to have ever finished the original yet.
I’m waiting for patches to come in.
The game has some visual issues on PS5. Hopefully those will get fixed.
Plus I played through the original GameCube version a billion times and sunk more than 50 hours into Mercenaries alone. I want to get this for a cheaper price.
For Capcom games three months after release is the sweet spot. You get a fully patched version at usually 30 bucks.
This game is much more challenging than the original. Its amazing.
Never played the original, will finally dig into the Remake today.
Hype all built up, can't wait!
No. I might grab it in a deep sale, but the demo didn't impress me enough to pay full price.
@PenguinLtd
The frame reconstruction method is kind of busted based on the demo I played and DF’s final review. The game runs at 4K in resolution mode through checkerboarding (same as the Series X version) but it looks significantly softer than the Series X version.
Framerate is what you would expect. Resolution mode is a bit all over the place if you turn on Hair Strand or RT; Xbox owners get away with it because low framerate compensation in VRR can adjust down to 40fps; on PS5 VRR it only adjusts down to 48fps which the game can drop to in intense scenes. Resolution mode is best played with RT and Hair Strands turned off.
Performance mode is super solid, though. Once again disable hair strands but you can keep RT turned on since the game never gets below 50fps, which VRR can clean up on PS5.
I just finished it. A superb game, indeed. Took me around 19 hours.
It had been my first time. I never played the original. This year in gaming is really good.
The original RE4 is among my all time favorite video games and I have played almost every port of it. Despite this, the Remake still makes me feel like a chump sometimes 😂 The combat is challenging to master and I'm having a blast.
@Ear_wiG wait, how do you upgrade your knife?
@edwinjoe450 yeah but the thing is only.village is the same.as original game, clcastle and island have been completely reworked there's a few sections that are identical but it generally feels something new, been a veteran re4 player won't really help you, and starting in highest difficulty I promise is just gonna torment you
This game is amazing and replaces the original as the Resident Evil 1 Remake did it's original back in the day.
Just beat Verdugo and can't wait continue playing.
@ItsBritneyB_tch at the merchant same as upgrading your weapons
@ItsBritneyB_tch
Just go to the merchant, it's in the weapon upgrade menu. You can also repair it there.
@edwinjoe450 I’m playing on Assisted (🐓) and it feels like Normal difficulty. I don’t think I could do a Hardcore or Professional run without the bonus weapons. It’s been years since I played the original but the remake feels way more difficult than I remember. There was a part in the Castle where I was mobbed by 10+ enemies. I don’t remember there being as many enemies in the original but I could be wrong.
@Uromastryx @BrotherFilmriss Damn, it must only apply to the starting Knife (Combat Knife). I stored mine when it was almost completely worn and then sold it for 5,000 pts 😫 I’ve just been using the knives you find around the levels but they wear down really fast. Good to know though for my next playthrough.
@ItsBritneyB_tch I'm pretty sure you can repurchase sold weapons on the far right tab under the merchant's "Buy" menu.
I'll buy this whenever it goes on sale. I have no shortage of other games to be playing in the meantime.
@Broosh I haven’t even noticed that (been meaning to book an eye test 😂) but I’ll check it out later thanks.
I've just got to the castle and I think it's a great Remake so far and the best game I've played on this new generation
Haven't had the time to play as much as I'd like, honestly I haven't got through the first village yet, but I intend to change that today.
I will get it soon. Im playing a lot of games now.word up son
Was going to get it then remembered it's capcom so have decided to wait for the "complete" edition.
I'm a Resident Evil diehard. I've played through every single entry multiple times...not just the mainlines, literally all of them. RE1 is the reason I bought a PS1, and for multiple generations what console Resident Evil was on was a large determining factor in which consoles I purchased. I'm about as hardcore an RE fan as you're likely to find.
That said, I didn't love RE2 remake as much as most (though it's still an incredible game), and enjoyed RE3 remake far more than seemingly everyone (RE3 is my favorite of the originals), and I was one of the people who did not think RE4 needed a remake at all...especially when we have something like CVX that's literally begging for a remake. Regardless, I just replayed the PC version of RE4 twice last week so it was fresh and I could do the ol' compare and contrast as I played through the remake.
Color me legit shocked that RE4 remake nails basically everything. I don't even know what to say about it that hasn't already been said in all the glowing reviews, it's just top to bottom excellent and is about as perfect a remake as anyone could ask for.
It’s so excellent. Both the OG and the new. I’m smitten. Just under half done at the mo; it’s nice that I can take my time and not be too worried about spoilers (since the game story is largely identical). Definitely recommend.
@GeneJacket this is exactly my feeling too. If I had to rate the remakes it would be RE4 > RE3 > RE2 but they’re all excellent. The only reason RE2 is ranked lowest is because of Mr X.
Hi there fellow gamers;
I´m a huge Resident Evil fan ever since RE2 on PSone, so....
Yes, I´m currently playing Resident Evil 4 Remake on my PS5.
And yes, I played the original multiple times. 8 times to be exact.
Four on my Gamecube, two on my PS2 and Two more times on my Nintendo Wii, wich was my personal favourite version of the game. Using the Wiimote to point and shoot the Ganados in the head was so much fun back in the day.
As for the Remake..... It´s everything I hoped for. I´m playing on Hardcore and I´m having a blast.
One of the best games ever made, just got better. Love to see it.
Cheers, stay safe folks and happy gaming to us all
@Pusher2021 there's 2 teams at capcom, one doing the remakes and one doing the sequels, i honestly dont get people moaning about wanting capcom to do new things, we just got resident evil village before this remake and the next one will probably be RE9, and a new ip is coming out this year (exoprimal) people just like to complain
@KaijuKaiser I think some people are anti-remakes and didn’t think RE4 needed to be remade. But I couldn’t disagree with them more. It’s given the game new lease of life. People who didn’t play the original can now experience this amazing game, which has been updated/improved for modern audiences. And people who did play the original can revisit this masterpiece and appreciate the huge improvements.
@lets_do-this_1999 is 100% worth your money, it all depends on how much time you're willing to wait before a price drop n,n
@Agramonte they just did callisto protocal last year, go play that and please come back and tell us how you like your new ip game
@Uromastryx already switched back to standard the cabin fight was INSANE on Hardcore
@ItsBritneyB_tch enemies swarm you so fast in this game, Leon moves so slowly compared to them, already switched to Standard. I actually want to enjoy it first.
Bought it day one, the original is one of my favorite games of all-time, so I wasn't skipping this. Haven't been able to put as much time into as I'd like but just reached Chapter 5 and really enjoying it so far. Feels very faithful to the source material.
@ItsBritneyB_tch Same way you upgrade the other weapons. You can repair, and upgrade durability and power. The combat knife is a legit threat in this game when upgraded, and saves a lot of ammo!
@Broosh you CAN repurchase sold weapons 😫 I can’t believe I’ve struggled for 2/3 of the game using those flimsy boot knives. I just repurchased the Combat Knife and fully upgraded it and I’m killing those insect enemies with one stab. Game changer! Thanks again for the heads-up 👍
Playing it and loving it, never played the original but I can see why it is appreciated so much and also why Village was such a success at it has village vibes so far!
@GeneJacket
Haha we're on the same line regarding RE2+3 Remake. I really hate Mr. X in RE2 remake, it's just a rehash of Mr. Baker from RE7, but thats just my optinion.
Unfortnuatly it seems I'm one of the few who really dislikes Re:Veronica, I'd play a remake nontheless and maybe if they remake it they could also fix the whole pacing and storytelling like they did with RE4. It's not just the gameplay the whole story is told way better.
The only thing it don't like that much is the voice acting of Krauser and Salazar.
Will finish my first run tonight and restart all over again.
@ItsBritneyB_tch
And you'll get another reusable knife soon xD
@LordBakemono Depends on who you ask and I totally understand when someone have played the game all over & over again. I usually don't mind when the game is kind of old and new gameplay elements can be added to stand the test of time (+good memories & nostalgia). And a lot of players can enjoy a game they never enjoyed before. GTA5 & TLOUP1 Remake is not needed imo but I'm just one gamer. And that last one I do want to replay it again, just not at that price point (bought it twice already).
I have friends who never play a game twice. If it's done, it's done, not even 20 years later. They want to see new creative things in gaming. To a point I do agree with them because I would like to see some new game mechanics we never seen before or weren't possible before. Others can complete a game 4 times in row. It's not always complaining, people have preferences.
@ItsBritneyB_tch Awesome! Glad to hear it 😁
I'm on stage 8 of 16 at the moment. Much better than the original in my opinion, even though the original is awesome.
I like that there are settings for prople who get motion sickness like me. Very helpful
@BrotherFilmriss Oh don't misunderstand, Code Veronica is awful, which is exactly why it should be remade. And I'm right there with you on Mr. X in remake 2, he sucks.
Having a blast with this.
Coming from the likes of Horizon FW it feels very stiff and slow, but once you get used to it again, it's great.
A masterpiece of video game making- always keeps things moving, great atmosphere, humourous, totally unrealistic but also very immersive.
My tip is to turn off HDR as it doesn't really work properly and makes everything look washed out and weird.
@Pusher2021 yep agree that it depends on your personal preferences (as everything really) just an example, people comlained to death that resident evil 3 remake was too short, and while i agree i have beaten it 10 time already ( the first 3 in hard, nightmare and inferno and the other 7 just for fun) so for me its not an issue since i adore the game an RE in general , and i like to play my games to death, but if your the type of gamer that just want to fly by and beat the game to continue with the next one i could see you having an issue, but in general i prefer quality over quantity
@ItsBritneyB_tch daamn bad move dude, the knife is essential in this game, first thing i did was upgrade its durability to max
@KundaliniRising333 i been playing the game for 8 hrs now on ps5, no issues with the frame rate at all so far
@LordBakemono good to know and glad to hear it.
how does the controller sensitivity/ responsiveness feel? Did it require tuning or are you picky about that. I'm pretty picky about that not feeling laggy or weighty in an unintended way.
@KundaliniRising333 not really, just swictched the button mapping option to b-1 (wich is the standard REmake configuration of the previous ones) turned off the hair thing for leon and increased the camera and aiming speed a little bit, it play fantastic, very responsive and instuitive, just play around with the control settings until you are comfortable with the setting, the only thing i did notice is some flickering here and there but capcom already promised to fix it n.n
@LordBakemono nice, I may just jump in after some patches come through.
I've never played thru the original Resident Evil 4. As for the remake, I'm waiting until it goes on sale for $20 New before I'll play it.
Yes I do realize that will take a year or two, I'm in no hurry.
