It's a huge day for Tekken fans, as the newest instalment in Bandai Namco's long-running series is finally here. Exclusive to current-gen platforms, Tekken 8 has long promised to be a banger — and the critic reviews certainly suggest that it is. But as always, we want to know if you're getting stuck into the latest release.
In our own Tekken 8 PS5 review, we awarded the title an 'excellent' (Lee would like that one) 9/10. "Tekken 8 is a modern fighting game masterclass," we concluded. "It doesn't skimp on single-player modes, its online offering is robust, and it's a serious visual spectacle. But most importantly, the battles are brilliant; accessible yet deeply technical, and supremely satisfying to be a part of — perhaps more so than ever before. There's no fighting game series quite like Tekken, and Tekken 8 is the franchise at its bombastic best."
So, are you ripping your way through Tekken 8 this weekend? Will you start with the single-player stuff, or will you be diving headfirst into an online lobby? Vote in our polls, and then don't you dare drop your combo in the comments section below.

Not yet. These next two months are just too packed. I'll definitely pick it up down the road though.
Playing for sure and had a lot of fun today. Won't be playing any more as I'm full of flu and shouldn't really be playing. Great fun though! If you've not bought any if this current gen of fighting games - get this one first!
I can still appreciate the skill needed to be good as a player and the insane amount of work the developer does to ensure the game is balanced, but fighting games are not my jam
Used to love Tekken when it released and SF2, MK and beat em ups in general but nowadays I'll get them on sale after a year or two as they are a game genre that I can only play in short sessions now and again.
Tekken 8 looks absolutely amazing though and will definitely keep an eye out for it in the future but cannot justify the cost against the time played.
I’ve been playing all morning, and I’m surprisingly liking the game a lot. I even managed to get a few wins online which is very surprising considering I haven’t played a proper fighting game since Soul Caliber on the PS2.
It's just installing, so had a quick go with King whilst I'm waiting in its ready to play mode and can already tell I'm gonna love this. I played a lot of Tekken 2 and 3 on the PS1 but not so much since but I do like 3d fighters the most. King was my go to back in those days and I remember reading the manual whilst my friends button mashed and they were surprised when I pulled out all the wrestling moves. I'm going to test ot with my arcade stick when it's fully installed and hopefully my Mayflash adapter will let it work with the PS5 (thanks Sony 🙄)
With this and me playing GT7 and FFVII Rebirth and Tomb Raider coming up, my PS5 is starting to feel like playing the PS1 again in the best way possible
I'm not really a big fan of 3D fighters, but as a lover of fighting games, I'm really happy that people are liking Tekken 8 so far! I just want to see more people try this genre out, and I picked up this game just to play with some friends who only play Tekken.
yes sir, lovin it ! ultimate edition for me
I'm not sure if I will get Tekken 8. I got both 6 and 7 and barely played both. Locals will certainly get into 8, so if I go and play there regularly I might end up getting it. However, if I continue to go occasionally I'll likely just stick with SF6, and possibly GBVSR.
Probably waiting until the complete game comes out and is on a heavy sale. Not sure though, the dlc in the genre is so out of control that I may just be totally grossed out and done with it like sports games.
I'll get this game when/if they release Lei Wulong! Why he's missing in the first place is beyond me.
Price is too steep for me, once most of the dlc is out I will get it on discount maybe by the end of the year.
Uh no. If I should have the urge to play a beat em up for some minutes I can play Mortal X which was free on ps+
Of course! It's so much fun😁
No, too expensive. I will get it on sale, I liked the demo a lot... it will be my first Tekken since Tekken 2!
Oh I would play… unfortunately my copy doesn’t come in until Monday for some odd reason 😑. I guess I’ll play KOF or Street Fighter 6 in the meantime
Yep had it pre-ordered. Its really fun though online is currently broken with constant crashes.
@GKT The game will no doubt have a T7 lifespan or more meaning its made till last 6-7 years, you will be waiting a long time for that complete edition.
Damn right I'm playing it, it was one of my most-anticipated PS5 games along with Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. From what I've played, lives up to my expectations. Great way to start 2024.
"No, Tekken 8 just isn't for me"
I love the Tekken games, especially number 2 & 3 but these recent versions seem a little cheesy or whatever so its not for me.
Tekken is my favorite fighting game series, but I tend to play mostly Mortal Kombat these days because my friends prefer that series. I intend to buy the complete edition of Tekken 8 when it's available.
I can’t wait for it. I’ll be playing it tonight probably. I’ve got my birthday party this weekend and we’ll be rotating Street Fighter 6, MK1, and Tekken 8 (and Mario Party and Jackbox, but that’s different) and I’m really looking forward to that.
Where is the option for "Trying to play Tekken 8?"
The online was literally unplayable yesterday
Yes and all I have to say is: best fighting game ever.
@NinjaNicky Other then a skin pack and some avatar skins there's no day 1 content, Eddy the first DLC character isn't due for months.
I'll only play it when it comes to PS+.
I will play Tekken 8 but right now my mind on Granblue Versus Rising at the moment.
I've loved Tekken since Tekken 2, but this will be the first i miss at launch for quite some time. Not because i didnt love the demo, but there is just so much coming out and i simply cannot keep up. Like a Dragon arrived today so i'll be playing that as soon as i am over the Flu. I'll pick this up in a few months time.
@NinjaNicky cya in 2028. I went with the approach I would rather be playing it all that time rather than holding off for a few quid. Still, each to their own budget etc
Played the PS1 games a lot, but the newer games just haven't grabbed me in the same way.
Probably won’t get this until later in the year, but very much been looking forward to it.
@Kraven nothing beats Soul Calibur on the ps2
@NinjaNicky You realise not every character makes it to every base roster in each entry right in fighting games? This is a game that will last 7ish years or more and yeah its going to get a new character every few months, rather that then buying a 60 quid "super" edition every year.
I was big into fighting games in the 90s and loved Tekken especially Tekken 2. That blew me away. Loved unlocking all the new characters. May download that on PSN for nostalgic kicks (and punches)
Probably not, if so it won't be soon. I bought 7 but never really got super into it.
I'm not playing Tekken 8 as I'm still playing Street Fighter...
When I'm done with Street Fighter, I'll pick up MK1. And when I'm done with MK1, I'll pick up Tekken 8.
Even in a booming economy, buying 3 fighting games in quick succession is a crazy ask. I don't understand why these 3 games came out so close to each other.
It suits me fine though. I will end up getting 3 quality fighting games for cheap.
Everyone knows the fighting genre has a sales ceiling. Really poor decision making from the publishers.
To many games it's impossible to do now.
@DennisReynolds Luckily for me in 6-7 years I'll be in my early 40's, which I hear is the prime fighting game age 🥺
My first PlayStation console was the PS2 and my first game ever on that machine was Tekken Tag Tournament. I think that’s saying something.
These polls seem to have a problem. What answer are people supposed to choose if they plan on playing the game, but not at launch, because they're too busy with other games?
@NinjaNicky Yeah there's reason we don't have fighters with 80+ characters outside of Smash and its because it would be a nightmare to make, too costly and a b!tch to balance. Wanna know a main criticism people have with Tekken Tag 2? Too many characters and how unbalanced it makes it.
I've never played anything from the series, and I haven't really been into fighting games since the 90s.
I intend on getting it next month and will likely get it for the PC due to lack of space on the PS5. I used to love the old Tekken games back in the day, Tekken 2 and Tekken Tag Tournament. It seems things are continuing on from last year the gaming hits keep on coming.
I fell for the temptation and bought i yesterday. Played for 8 hours straight and got the platinum. Its definetly a good fighter, especially the story mode was very entertaining. But as far as combat goes, I prefer SF6.
I can't put it down.cgi endings are back for each character and some are hilarious.arcade quest is brilliant and the game looks and plays amazingly
Still not brought Wang back? Guess I'm skipping T8 too.
Game looks amazing, but it's a genre i am done with so i am passing. I don't have the time and patience required to get good at the game. Fighting games are huge time investments and i don't have that kind of time anymore and there's other games i play already.
@Doctor_BK the PS2 version was more complete for sure but I loved the Dreamcast version
Is there haptic feedback with this game?
@NinjaNicky Maybe they should go back to charging full price for another version of the same game that 4 characters and one extra mode. Tekken 8 has 32 characters its a big and fair roster.
