Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is here, and it wants to take you on a blood-soaked crusade back to a simpler time — a time when unapologetically gory action games were all the rage. A surprisingly refreshing experience here in 2024, Space Marine 2 is a big budget sequel to the original 2011 shooter on PS3. It's been a while, then, but are you gathering your battle brothers for this revival?
We heaped praise on the game in our Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 PS5 review, highlighting its exquisite portrayal of the 40k universe, and its brutally satisfying combat. "Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 does its legendary setting justice, offering a high-quality cinematic campaign that is a wild ride to blast through, and it only gets better if you bring a few friends to watch your back," we wrote. Our 9/10 review concludes: "Space Marine 2 sets a benchmark for 40k games worthy of its own storied, illustrious lore."
But that's enough of our gushing! As always, we want to know if you're sitting down to play this latest release. Vote in our polls, and then rev up that chainsword in the comments section below.

No because Astro bot came first.
And I’ve since been hearing people having issues.
But definitely playing at some point
Been playing since friday and its very good. Finally tried out the PvP mode today and its a bloody good time and has that old school early 360 era feel to it.
It is almost certainly going to be the next game I buy but not got enough time to devote to it at the moment.
Me and the homies are getting on tonight hopefully
Not yet, but I definitely will as soon as a certain blue robot stops politely waving at me.
I'll be honest it wasn't something on my radar but it's something I may check out of they improve performance mode and when it's a bit cheaper.
From having no games I wanted to play to having star wars outlaws, vampire survivors and Astro Bot on the go (well at the mo only astro bot)
Then next week plucky squire and then epic Mikey rebrushed. So it's something I'd want to play but in no rush at the moment
Not gonna lie, the Gears of War vibe was very appealing, then i saw the awful performance on PS5 - instant NO.
They should remake the first.
@DennisReynolds is it like gears
I hope so. I didn't finished first one, because I recieved jump pack. I hope SM2 doesn't have jump packs...
Not yet, but I definitely will be. Too busy playing Astro Bot and Star Wars outlaws right now.
Finished first one, but not liked it enough to spend money on a sequel. Plus too many good games are coming soon.
@Shalooda Kinda though there isn't a cover system and melee also plays a big role.
Where's the "For the Emperor!" option in the poll??
@DennisReynolds The whole 360 era Gears of War vibe is why I picked this up! Gonna give it a whirl tonight!
No, I'm not really a big Warhammer 40k person so I didn't buy it. I did watch several streamers play it though and it was fun to watch.
It looks really good, but I'm basically a single player only gamer at this point and I'm not sure if this game would be good for me.
@nyr2k2 yeah me too although i do like helldivers 2, just looked and the campaign and it's only 10hrs long so will wait till it's 20 quid on amazon.
It's pretty enjoyable in co-op so far. Feels like a game from the PS3 era and that's perfectly fine with me
@nyr2k2 The campaign and co-op mode can be played solo with bots. Co-op is optional like it is in Gears of War.
I beat the first one on PS3. Really fun game despite i don't know a single thing about Warhammer.
So yeah, i will play the sequel later down the line.
Started playing it today and so far it's pretty great if a bit over-whelming at times.
This is my first ever experience with 40K
And goddamn, this game is so sick. I know people have been saying it nonstop but it really is like a current generation 360/PS3 game and I say that as a massive compliment.
It's just pure good fun video game lol
I’ve been playing the single player campaign (solo) for a couple of hours. I like it, but the game feels really stiff and I’m not a fan of the controls, though they can be tweaked. Aside from that, it’s been a fun experience. I’ll probably dive much deeper into the game once I feel fully satisfied completing the games I’m currently playing (I don’t like playing more than one game at a time).
I would, but my wallet is weeping currently. Astro, Mahvel, Zelda, and this. Way too much rn.
@Kraven same with me. When im playing game,im always finish it first before i jump to another game. Playing 2 game at the same time make you loss focus and immersion to either of one
I will but maybe when the game got sales or maybe if i have none to play soon. Game look gorgeous and kind of my cup of tea but the solo campaign took around 10 hours to complete is kinda short to me.
Platted Astro in 13 hours and now onto Space Marine 2!
Think I'll pass. It doesn't seem to have enough solo content for me and the mobs avoiding the bots seems troublesome. Looks great though.
Absolutely fantastic game. Was worried it wouldn't be fun solo but I was wrong. The PvP mode is also fantastic fun and only going to get better. Looking forward to playing co op at some point.
I never finished the first one. I got sidetracked. Those jump pack zones were some of the most fun shooter combat I have ever played. I need to go back and finish the first one. I look forward to playing this in the future.
I've put it on the wishlist, too many other games to play right now.
I’m not because I cannot find a single physical copy in any store in Hamburg 🥲. They are €10 cheaper than the digital version so umma wait. Not paying the PSN €69 (nice)!!!
Can anyone tell me if you can wear a helmet during the campaign? I have the first one and you can't wear one during the campaign.
@Robocrop_Duster Yep, there's an armoury option for making your helmet visible at all times during gameplay.
Campaign cutscenes will still show the characters without their helmets, though.
I finally got the original at a good price on Steam today, so after Visions of Mana I’ll throw that on my Steam Deck to go through it. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about 2.
The top option for Q1 should be "For the Emperor!"
You guys missed the chance.
@ShogunRok thank you very much.
