Can't wait until Wednesday? We know the feeling. Sony's kept us all in the dark for way too long, and so there are high expectations surrounding this week's PlayStation Showcase. Whether the event actually lives up to those expectations doesn't matter right now, though. We're very much in the calm before the storm, and so we wanted to get a quick hype check.
As alluded, it's been quite some time since Sony hosted a proper showcase — around two years, to be more specific. The Japanese giant has promised a wide range of announcements and updates, from its first party PlayStation Studios, to third party publishers and even indie developers. Both upcoming PS5 and PSVR2 titles will be featured.
The show's also over an hour in length, which, especially in a post-E3 world, means that this should be a meaty presentation.
So, how are your hype levels holding up? Give us some idea in our polls, and then explain your expectations in the comments section below.
Are you hyped for the PlayStation Showcase? (2,843 votes)
- Yes, super hyped
- Yeah, I'm looking forward to it
- Kind of, I hope it's good
- Nah, I'm not really feeling it
- No, I'm not hyped at all
Will you be watching the PlayStation Showcase live? (2,452 votes)
- Yes, I'll be watching live
- Nah, I'll catch it later
- No, I'll just check the news afterwards

I’ll be watching it for PSVR2 announcements. In particular Astro Bot 2. That will make it a killer show for me.
Considering we haven’t had a showcase for such a long time, I’m kinda expecting there to be a lot shown off so am pretty hyped!
I hope it's good. By what i mean good is that it does feature a good varied line-up that doesn't heavily rely on realistic 3rd person adventure games.
I'll take whatever they want to show me, but I'm hoping for something with a fantasy slant.
I can't wait for FF XVI obviously, but I'd love to get a look at that London Studio game. An online fantasy combat title set in modern London? Yes please.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to watch as I don’t finish till 10pm.
I’m very excited. Expecting great things. Sony doesn’t like announcing stuff too early anymore, but I’m hoping for an Uncharted 5 trailer.
Let Phase 2 of the PlayStation Cinematic Universe commence!
I'm quite hyped, the fact that sony know they've gone two years without a showcase they will want to make up for it with a banger of a show.
On a personal note I'm hoping to see a lot of Japanese games. I'm not too fussed about spiderman 2 or wolverine but I hoping we get to see 2-3 more of playstation studios upcoming games.
I'm more hyped then normally. It's been such a long time so this should be filled with big games, also can't wait to see Spider-man 2 in action.
I'm pretty interested. It's pretty long and being advertised as a more 'major' type of showcase, so chances are there will be at least one or two things for me to get excited about.
I'd be alot more hyped if we didn't have to wait two years for this. It's so overhyped at this point because of the wait that it's bound to disappoint. I think this starve your audience then they'll want more strategy will backfire on them. Especially knowing the majority of the new announcements will be live service games.
I can't say I'm particularly excited, as there aren't very many first-party IPs I care about these days, but I do want to know what they have been cooking up, so if I can catch it live, I will.
It's been so long and almost three years into this gen, it's weird how little new gen games we've had.
I just replayed Spider-man, the DLC and Miles Morales this month and absolutely smashed my way through them all in like 8 days. I’d be pretty excited if it was just a Spider-man 2 show and release date. Everything else is a massive bonus.
I'm excited but I'm not that hyped for it. I'm expecting a lot of the big announcements are things that had rumors about them or things we already know. It's the surprises that will decide it for me and since Sony is pushing live-service, I'm not getting my hopes on that front. Expect the worst, hope for the best
Never usually that hyped, but for me personally Sony really have to deliver on this one. I had the PS5 at launch, but nothing I have seen comes close to the UE5 reveal, or the amazing Matrix demo. I'm hoping for something truly spectacular since the PS5 is nearly three!! And I have a PSVR 2 so hoping for Astrobot!!
I don’t wanna set myself up for another disappointment so I’m like 🤷♂️, let’s see what happens on Wednesday.
I'm pretty excited for the entire not quite E3 season. With two years of silence, I'd be shocked if the PS showcase isn't great, so expectations are pretty high. However, I'm expecting the Xbox showcase to probably have some exciting news as well. It will surely be a fun month of gaming news.
the hype train is at full speed, not gonna lie
I'm middle of the road. I have hope to see something of interest to me, but my expectations are severely low due to the last few years. Sony can either deliver in two days, or I'll basically be checked out of modern gaming and more than likely won't buy the next gen of systems (PS6/XB1000/Switch2).
Expectations are as low as they possibly could be. So they don't have a very high bar to clear. If the only decent title they show is Spiderman, it will be a massive L for me.
I’m ultra hyped but trying not to think about it at all nor watching any predictions online, just losing time playing Zelda.
I do hope that if they announce a Astrobot 2 that it will also be playable on the PS5. I really want to play a full length Astro game(besides Playroom) but don't want to shell out for a VR2 headset(even though I am interested in it).
That mysterious Bluepoint game is really interesting to me. Beyond hyped for this tho.
If project awakening is really gonna be there (judging by their twitter) then I'm very excited. As long as we get looks into that, granblue, Rise of the Ronin, Stellarblade, etc. Along with new games with that japanese/asian flavor it'll be a very worthwhile watch
Definitely watching it live
Pretty excited to see what they have for us. Don't mind some decent indies and 3rd party, but really want to see 3 or 4 1st party games, even if its just a tease.
Oh and some big psvr2 announcements! Surely astrobot will show himself!
I haven’t switched my PS5 on since Tears of the Kingdom released, but I can’t wait to find out what there is to look forward to once I’ve finished it. Really excited for the showcase and I’ll be watching live on Wednesday for sure!
Only a medium amount of hype from me, as I could see this showcase going either way. It could be excellent if they've got plenty of surprises lined up. Alternatively it could be underwhelming, or lean too heavily into live service games for my liking. Either way, we'll see on Wednesday.
I will not watch the showcase so I will wait the news of upcoming kids games from the showcase if there is at least 1 or 2 titles I can consider. If there isn't any, I will check from play-asia again.
Hyped? Nah. But I hope it's good. I never watch these showcases. The awesome staff at Push Square will summarize the important bits for me to read later anyway.
Pretty low expectations on my end. Can't wait for Spider-Man 2, but I always judge these things, like past E3s, on how many new games are on my 'want to play' list after it, compared to before.
Almost all of Sony's studios are either too early in development on their next game for it to be announced, or we know what they're doing already. A new Infamous would blow my mind, but we pretty much know they're doing Ghost of Tsushima 2. Heck, even if they were working on Infamous, it would almost certainly just be a remake with the way Sony operates these days.
I’m ready for it, I do have to work so I’ll have to catch the news when it’s all over.
Yeah, given the wait since the last one i am super hyped. I can't wait for this one! Hopefully it doesn't leak
Yeah I'm looking forward to it.
I hope Sony will show they are committed to PSVR2, by making all or most of the bigger games (like Spider Man 2) fully playable in VR.
i'm pretty excited for it mostly based on i really do think we'll finally see a lot of projects that have been worked on for 2-3 years at this point, and the fact they've been working on these games and not much is really known makes this event even more hype. i know you have all these fake "leaked" rumors for the event so its really hard to believe a lot of them. its crazy how it seems like sony's been able to keep alot of this stuff from leaking.
Its gonna be a fun PlayStation showcase.cant wait for the games that they are gonna show.word up son
Can't watch it live. Have plans already.
I know these usually disappoint me, so i don't really have any expectations.
Just hope to see 1 or 2 games i can be interested in. But, i am expecting predictable sequels, live services and boring indie and VR games.
Hey, since i won't watch it live i can just skip the boring stuff. 😂
Keeping my expectations low. I’m not super excited for it, but I know I’m going to play spider-man, so I don’t really care to see more of that and I have zero interest in VR. The things I care about most are just rumors at the moment. If they turn out to be true then I’ll be surprised and happy, but I’ll believe it when I see it! Realistically though, I’ve never been disappointed by a PS Showcase, so I’m sure it’ll be great
To be honest, not very. It’ll take more than Spider-Man and Last of Us online to light a fire under my ass. Let’s see though!
@thefourfoldroot1 Dude, I'd faint. Bring over the first one too, preferably as a Plus benefit or a free upgrade.
I’m going to put on my very best Mario hat and make extreme constipation dump faces every time a new game get announced, cuz reasonable expectations is for the Libs!
Currently at 49% super-hyped.
That's 49% setting themselves up for disappointment.
I expect to see two or three things I'm interested in, a whole lot I don't care about, and at least a couple things I'll be seriously disappointed by. I expect I'll come out of it happier than nearly every one of those "super-hyped" voters.
I am SUPER Hyped. Its been a long time we had one of these. I think at the bare minimum we are all going to get a decent first party roadmap for the next couple of years.
Yes, cannot wait. Really looking forward to seeing what we get next from PS 1P.
These things have made me miss E3. 3 hours of back to back announcements, hype, and gamer debate wrapped in a tiny package where everyone usually finds something to be excited about and everyone can get a feel for the state of things. These are more frequent, but they don't really carry the same energy. A lot of the announcements you sit through don't always have that one thing that'll make you happy at some point. WE've come away with some pretty flat state of plays, more often than not.
I'm looking forward to it. I'm not sure if I'll watch it live, though. It's on at 4pm where I'm at so if I have to work late, then I'll put it on in the background. But if not, I'll probably go for a run or hike after work since it's finally getting warm (and not rainy) out in my area. So I'll probably just skim through it Wednesday night.
I’m not feeling it. So far I know I’ll hear more news about Spider-Man, a game I already want to buy (once it goes on a sale, not paying $70 for no game) and given Sonys track record anything they announce is likely going to be years away.
So unless they drop big third party news, I don’t see them announcing anything that will get me excited for this year.
I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm mainly just hoping for a surprise that I didn't see coming. And I'm really curious about what bluepoint and sucker punch are working on (although sucker punch probably won't be here).
@makk_zucc the talk is ghosts 2 won't be there , but they didn't say anything about sucker punch not being there.
@Tharsman they stopped announcing games too soon , so i doubt the games are years away at this point.
For whatever reason, I’m not really that hyped. I expect to be disappointed. It feels like there is no way they can get me hyped after being quiet for so long. They’ve annoyed me too much over the past 3 years.
I hope I’m wrong though.
I would love an Uncharted game with a brand new everything. Uncharted is bigger than Nathan and his friends and family. It could take place in a different decade or century.
I’d love for Motorstorm to return, even though it would be with a different team. Sony shutting down evolution pissed me off.
I could write a book on what I hope they have at that show and how they’ve dissatisfied me, but it is what it is.
@Ken_Kaniff You continue to share my sentiment. It’s kinda mind blowing. Be sure to read my statement above this comment.
@twitchtvpat whenever did they do that? They have never taken less than a year and a half from announcement to delivery of triple A games.
I could see them announcing something akin to Sackboy to be released by the end of the year, or service/vr games. Only exciting news I could see for this year would be revealing Wolverine is hitting by Christmas.
Hey, would be nice to hear about this rumoured FF9 remake I guess. I kind of hate to say remakes/sequels, woo, though.
Hyped but i'm keeping my expectations in check, i expect some big things but i'm trying to be realistic with it.
I’m not saying the announcements have to be the caliber of The Last Guardian / Final Fantasy VII Remake / Shenmue 3 (thank you 2015!), but they better come close!
Personally I'm really looking forward to it. I've really enjoyed my PS5 so much these past two years and I can't wait to see what's coming next. I just find it impossible to be miserable about a PS showcase
@Tharsman Demon Souls was announced June 2020 and released November 2020. Five month turn from announcement to launch.
@OmegaStriver We are one in the same friend. The only way this thing gets me hyped is if we see Naughty Dogs new IP (won't happen), Cory Barlogs new game (that's a long shot) or some other surprise sp game I don't know about. All the live service stuff they have coming I could care less. The way I see this going down is a formal look at Spiderman and TLOU Factions, announcements for whatever live service games Haven and Firewalk and maybe London Studios are working on, a bunch of third party/PSVR2/indie stuff then one last surprise announcement. If we hadn't waited two years that would be a decent show. This will be no different than any other Sony showcase. I dont know why I keep seeing people saying they are going to blow our minds because it's been two years. It's been two years because they had nothing to show last year and Sony is in this weird transition phase of just staying silent all the time.
@Ken_Kaniff this is more in line with that I expect too.
I would love to be wrong and see them come out of nowhere with an announcement of White Knight Chronicles 3 or a fourth entry in the Infamous series, but the chances of having my mind blown are low enough that I rather just get a summary of the reveals here instead of spending an hour watching a stream.
I hope they give us big chunks of Spidey 2 gameplay.
I'd like to see more Rise of the Ronin. MGS remake.
Anything to do with Bloodborne - I'd take an anime!
I want last of us factions to have division style PvE levels. 4v infected, then PvP - Fedra vs Fireflies. Base building would be awesome too!
Silent hill 2 remake gameplay trailer.
I'll leave it there, but could yak on for days.
Apart from Spiderman 2 and maybe something to do with FF16, I honestly don't know what to expect. I am semi excited more because I am clueless which is part of the fun of it all.
My expectations are sky high. For 2plus years they haven't felt they had enough for a showcase and instead got a mixed bag of state of plays, and dodgey blog post announcements for which many you'd expect in a showcase, or at the very least a state of play.
So for them to say its a showcase, I have to believe that they have alot of surprises and alot of games to show off for an hour showing. So many first party studios are at a time they should all have something to show. Totally hyped and I think the hype is real. I'm confident.
@Tharsman my point is these games have been in development already for years , its not going to be years before we see them. i think you are going to be surprised.
Literally beside myself at this point. I usually end up losing my mind at one of the games shown. Finish work at 7 for holidays and I’ll be glued to the youbook!
Extremely hyped but more so in the sense that showcases are really fun to watch, not about having extremely high expectations.
I really dont care what they are showing.
I have a big back log so i am good.
I will watch because i hope there will be suikoden news
I am hyped about Diablo IV coming in 15 days! But I will have to see something on the Sony Show to get hyped about it.
I'm in the middle. I'm hoping it's great but want to keep my expectations low to avoid disappointment.
Extremely. After Burning Shores, I cant wait to see what is next.
Sony has become the master on making stunning story driven single player games. One of the big reasons I still game.
@JohnKarnes you sound like me, at the moment all i care about is Diablo 4, Diablo is a top 3 franchise all time for me, so this is my big game maybe of the whole generation. I am getting it day 1 on Series X, but if Xbox don’t pull its head out of it you know where, i will buy it on PS5 as well. Sony consoles are always an exclusives machine for me, so this show should give me something to be excited for. 😀
As a matter of pride Sony have to deliver now. We’ve waited two and a half years and I’m not convinced much has changed since the PS4. This goes for XBox as well. In the mean time all the mindshare is focused on Zelda TOTK that has actually created a new combination of styles to produce a next gen game on a last gen system.
I wonder if Sony’s reliance on western production has taken away the inventiveness their Japanese studio’s gave them?
I just want to know what Sony will bring to Steam. Hopefully Bloodborne so I can play it on my Deck.
I'm MEGA hyped, but trying to keep my expectations low so I won't be disappointed.
However I did also swap work days this week so I can watch it live with some friends, should be a fun time regardless!
Besides the obvious games we are almost 100% will be shown, Persona 6 would make my year.
I want to see some cool stuff. But I’m expecting to see nothing but more sequels and games as a service. But I’ll withhold judgment until I’ve seen it.
I have tepid excitement.
I’m hoping it’s really good and we get some surprising reveals. I’m really interested to see Factions. Hopefully a full reveal of it is there. And Spiderman 2.
But I’ve got some worries about Sony long term. Tears of the Kingdom has consumed me so much that if I had to sell one of my two consoles (PS5 and Switch) I’d probably sell the PS5. I have more faith in Nintendo these days and that’s saying a lot. Considering I’m a long term Playstation fan (been a PS fan since 1998).
@OmegaStriver
Weirdly enough I’m the exact opposite on Uncharted. I loved the franchise but I think A Thief’s End and Lost Legacy was the perfect way to end it.
I feel like we get way too many sequels now. So I don’t want anymore Uncharted games.
Any sequels I want are from long dormant series. I’d like for Guerrilla to take a break from Horizon and take another stab at Killzone. Or for Insomniac to work on a fourth Resistance title while they work on Wolverine.
But even better would be some new IPs from Sony. Like I really hope Bend is working on a new IP.
@JohnKarnes
Damn that’s soon.
I dunno what to get first. FFXVI or Diablo IV.
@MrGawain
TOTK is shockingly good. Like way better than I expected. And I always had faith it would be a great game.
It feels like what we were promised way back in the 360 and PS3 era. New physics driven gameplay ideas.
That’s something about modern games that I don’t like. The physics systems in most games feel so restrictive and static now. The 360/PS3 era saw so many physics driven games. And they promised it would only get better. But when the PS4 and XBONE released that sort of went by the wayside and these new consoles haven’t really changed that aspect of gaming.
Modern games are very pretty. But they have primitive physics engines that remind me more of PS2 and GameCube games.
I think that’s why TOTK is so refreshing. And the same went for BOTW before it. The only PS4/Xbone game that really had great physics was Red Dead Redemption 2. And unlike Zelda you really didn’t get to control it. But it made the game world way more lively than most other modern games since the world responded to your actions in a realistic way that you expected.
Super duper hyped. Cannot wait, only 1 day to go.
@OrtadragoonX Uncharted could be completely rebooted telling an entirely different story, with different cast, in a different decade or century. I see the Uncharted universe as bigger than Nathan Drake. I see Uncharted like the MCU, Nathan is in its universe, but there are other stories to tell, there are other adventures to be had.
Think people are setting themselves up for disappointment. I have low expectations so let’s see.
Only joined Playstation about 6 months ago so I'm mostly using it to play older games I missed out on. Most I've spent on a game so far is €10. Still have loads of older games to play through first so I'm not too interested in this conference.
Super-hyped considering the last Showcase was 20 months ago in 2021, I expect big things. At the same time trying to also keep those expectations grounded.
With one article every day about it I think PushSquare is pushing us to be hyped
"Sony showcase coming"
"what will be in the showcase"
"are you hyped?"
"are you sure ?"
"do you want to be hyped ?"
"do you feel you would be hyped if we kept talking about it ?"
"please be hyped"
Can't say I'm overly 'hyped' for the Show. Spider-Man 2 is the 'only' game I am expecting to be something of 'interest' to me and don't expect to see Wolverine too.
I have zero interest in Final Fantasy or 'remakes/remasters', no interest in Last of Us Factions or ANY PSVR2 games at all so I don't really expect this to appeal that much to me.
I may watch live - depends on what else is on at the time - but I will certainly catch up with the 'news' and watch any 'individual' game trailers that interest me at the very least.
Maybe as I am not expecting much, if anything, to be overly hyped or excited by, them maybe it will over deliver rather than expect to be hyped and then feel deflated by the show if it under delivers...
The main sites seem to have skipped over this but Sony recently added controller support for their PS App on smartphones. This seems like a weird addition until you factor in that maybe we are getting mobile PS+ streaming revealed this Wednesday (and maybe that rumoured streaming handheld too?)
I was thinking this was on Thursday. Will have to miss it live now but interested to see what they come out with
I'm a middle aged man, I don't get "hyped" for anything.
I don't get hyped for these types of announcements. Don't want to overhype myself just to be disappointed afterwards.
I'm looking forward to it with a side portion of caution.
It could be an hour of banger after banger... or it could open/close strong and fill the rest of the airtime with talking heads and fluff.
JUST GIVE ME THE GETAWAY REBOOT AND YOU CAN HAVE MY MONEY SONY
I voted "I'm going to watch it live" and then thought, I don't even know what time it's on, so maybe I won't be 😂 it doesn't say in the article, so now I'm going to have to Google it. Poor form PushSquare 😅😅😅
Most of the stuff people are predicting I don't care about like Last of Us, Spiderman, etc. What I want is Granblue Fantasy Relink, Astrobot on VR2, and Stellar Blade.
I wouldn't say I`m that hyped but I am dancing a gleeful jig of joy in my mauve corderoy slacks in anticipation.
I'm only kinda hyped because of Jim Ryan's obsession over live service games.
I hope to see what the redesigned PS5 will look like, even if it's just a mock up made out of chicken wire and papier-mâché.
This use of 'hyped' makes no sense. Sony do the hyping, we get excited. The hype is the promotion, not the effect of the promotion.
Sony advertise the event, they promote the event, they hype the event.
It doesn't mean we are 'advertised', 'promoted', or 'hyped'.
@thefourfoldroot1 I too am looking for some new PSVR2 announcements.
Hope to see some surprises and things to look forward to!
My expectations are low as they always are but more so as I see what each studio does now and go oh this is their direction ok then.
Bluepoint hopefully have something interesting or Bend if they have anything (I know it will be a cinematic game, or open world with mechanics and stories I'm not going to care for personally but suits other audiences and I'm not going to care or some multiplayer game or whatever else who knows).
Besides an Asobi Astro game for PSVR2, or whatever London studio has for PSVR2 as well the only two I'd actually care about really out of any of the studios as most of the heavy hitter games aren't for me it's the niche or not cinematic games I care about.
I don't see Media Molecule making something beside Dreams support still and Sumo did Sackboy but do tons of other things for other companies anyway.
The big cinematic games to keep marketing sure I bet we will see them. I don't care about them but we will still see them.
If live service games then eh pass. If GT7 updates then eh pass that too.
If other third parties with something interesting I may listen depending on what they are of big or Indies. I mean I keep forgetting Stellar Blade is a thing I hope it's good I've been disappointed on current hack n slashes/character action games (I don't mean souls games or action RPGs I don't play those).
Otherwise I don't care really I'm good with just playing retro games/what I didn't play from 2022 on PS4 like Valkyrie Elysium, Diofield Chronicles, Pacman World Re-Pac and Klonoa 1&2 and the few 2023 games I already care about like Pikmin 4 or Atlas Fallen.
Not hyped but looking forward to it.
What do i think we get:
Metal Gear Solid Snake eater remake (Teaser).
Spider man 2 (Gameplay +releasedate).
Last of Us multiplayer (Gameplay + releasedate).
Twisted Metal (Trailer).
Final Fantasy XVI (Trailer)
Street Fighter 6 (Character trailer).
Silent Hill 2 Remake (Gameplay +releasedate).
What i whish:
