We're heading towards HBO's finale of its The Last of Us TV adaptation, but episode seven took a step back in time for a large flashback focusing on Ellie's relationship with Riley. Appearances from Joel are kept to the start and end of the hour-long episode, allowing the two girls to steal the show with some nighttime fun in the mall.
Episode seven remains faithful to DLC Left Behind, with the two friends playing in the arcade, sharing a kiss, and then dancing in the costume shop wearing masks. We all knew the episode would have a sad ending, but those expectations probably won't put a stop to the tears flowing for some viewers.

I really love that they keep it as grounded as possible (all things considered) and not world war z like full of zombies or fast & furious nonsense action. It was great for the game having a lot of infected in the mall scene, but this felt better for the series.
It was good but I would have preferred they not put the Left Behind DLC in the show. They are rushing somethings that I would have rather seen than this. But it was still a good episode
Honestly? The DLC was FAR more fun to play than to watch an entire episode of TV made out of it. Certainly worth seeing how Ellie got infected but to spend an entire hour on the story when there's still a lot of content to cover and only 2 episodes left to do it in? They could have condensed it down a bit for story purposes.
@Diowine I was just telling my wife that I was torn about that. It did feel more grounded to have only one infected bursting in, but seeing a lot of infected burst in was a terrifying moment in the game that I missed here. I am not sure how I feel about that choice yet.
My wife has not played the game (but is loving the show) and thought more infected would have been over the top.
Still, this was a really good episode. Reid and Ramsey were so great, and just like the game the story of their characters was beautifully told. It has been great to see Left Behind integrated into the series (not just here but in hints along the way) in a way that was not possible in the first game. The events are such a huge part of Ellie’s journey.
This is the closest they have come to a 1-1 translation of the game content. Excellent episode and performances. Even if I'm still not quite sold on Bella as Ellie, you can see her getting more comfortable with her embodiment of the role.
It was okay. It was well acted, well directed and looked great but I was bit bored. It stayed so close to the game that I wasn't as into it. I think this is one time that TV only people might have the advantage in possible enjoyment. Still give it an 8/10.
@Westernwolf4 More Infected like how it was in the game Would have been Overkill lol Poor Eille With her pocket knife Wouldn't have Stood a Chance.
Very, very good. They did this part of the story justice. This is easily the best performance Ramsey has given in the show, so far. Just heartbreaking. I thought she and Storm Reid had great chemistry too.
I did enjoy the episode but I think they spent too much time on the flashback
I do love the show but overall there seem to have been important moments that have been cut short while other, arguably less important parts have lasted a little too long.
I think it has been said before, but I'd also appreciate it if the title and picture didn't spoil the episode. I don't even have the time to watch it until later today, but it's impossible to avoid spoilers on PushSquare.
Bella Ramsey seems to really struggle acting like a teenager. I have never been all that impressed by her Ellie and I remain so.
It was okay and probably the worst episode so far. There was one other I really didn’t care for but I can’t remember it. I think it came after Bill’s Town. It’s concerning they only have two episodes left and they are both short on n actual time compared to many of the other. I think 51 and 43 minutes.
I understand it cant be all action but this show has been WAY slower than I ever expected. It also feels like Joel and Ellie haven’t had enough screen time together and they’re relationship pales in comparison to the game’s Joel and Ellie. It felt like Joel was more open to developing a friendship with Ellie in the game in comparison to how cold and withdrawn the tv’s Joel has been.
So far, I’d never want to watch the show again. That sounds harsh. I’ve enjoyed it but it’s looking like a one and done for me.
Loved it. The show hit me in my feelies (yet again.)
I never played the DLC this was apparently based on. Never would’ve known if not for the other comments! I only ever played and beat the first game once and never played the DLC.
Really sad there’s only 2 episodes left.
Jesus, this site and the spoilers. This has yet to be show in this country (U.K.) and one has to ask how PushSq, a U.K. Website is even watching it. If Liam knows then please inform us so we can avoid further spoilers. thank you.
Ignore previous comment as I just googled it and wasn't aware it was shown at 2am. Still not staying up till that time. 😂
The bit about spoilers remains though, sort yourself out PushSq.
@OmegaStriver yeah, the show has not lived up to the hype for me, sadly. All those gushing reviews from the critics (‘greatest show ever made!’, ‘better than the game!’ etc.) and the fact that it’s HBO, gave me high expectations. It could have been incredible but it’s really ‘just ok’.
A picture of Ellie and Riley and the title of the Episode, that's the big spoiler so many are complaining about?? If you played the game you knew that Left Behind was coming now, and if you didn't then the picture is even less of a spoiler. Also, they showed it last week in the trailer.
Big spoiler for you now: Next week we have the Lakeside Resort part and Troy Baker is going to appear. Now you can save yourself from complaining about it again next week
@Krysus I agree I'm still not sold on her but I think that's more because I have a pre conceived picture of Ellen page playing her from years ago, obviously that couldn't happen now as he has transitioned but all things considered she hasn't done a bad job
Solid 8, good not great episode. I really wanted them to encounter more than one infected but it's a show and not the game. Storytelling takes priority and not gameplay.
That was just a drag to go through. In a show where the pacing is already all over the place, you have to spend 1h with the weakest part of the show (Bella's Ellie). They should've spent 20 mins at most with Left Behind and just go on.
Also, why the heck does Riley look like she's almost 30?!
@QualityGeezer Elliot Page never played Ellie. Common misconception. It was the versatile Ashley Johnson.
@Krysus no I realise that mate, Ellen page was in beyond two souls, I just thought she would have been a good ellie in a TV or film adaptation as she as a good actress
@QualityGeezer A much younger version, sure. But Pascal has yet to impress me as Joel either. The next two episodes will probably determine my interest level in Season 2. The David episode and the finale in the Hospital.
@Krysus I've enjoyed Pascal performance, it works for me can't really think of anyone else who could have done better unless you cast unknowns
@QualityGeezer the actor who played Jaime Lannister would have been good I think. He was in a film called The Silencing a few years ago and he reminded me so much of Joel from the game.
@ItsBritneyB_tch he is a good actor but that wouldnt have worked for me
@QualityGeezer Really? I think he would have been perfect.
Pascal is ‘the man’ but his Joel is basically The Mandalorian without a helmet.
Fantastic! The best episode so far!
I was thinking Rory McCann the guy who played Dog. But his age may not have worked. Pascal is...fine. He has the soft-side down. But I've yet to see the brutish side of Joel.
So much still to happen, and they waste it on dlc
@CaptD I'm in London, and watch it on NowTV.
So people with a sky box have access too on Sky Atlantic
@LifeGirl She's a teenager in real life....
@ItsBritneyB_tch
I think Nicolaj has a bit of a thing for horror movies at the moment. That's mainly where I see him randomly popping up.
