You've seen the (questionable) nominations for The Game Awards 2021, and with the show now just a few weeks away, what game do you think will win the coveted Game of the Year prize on 8th December 2021? This is a year without an obvious winner as the quality of titles released has been fairly consistent, but without a clear standout, it's tough to immediately pinpoint a winner. That's why we're getting you involved.
From Sony, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is nominated for Game of the Year. Then there's Deathloop from Bethesda's Arkane Studios, It Takes Two by Hazelight Studios, Metroid Dread from Nintendo, Psychonauts 2 from Double Fine, and Capcom's Resident Evil Village. You can view the nominations in other categories through the link.
So, what game do you think will win big at The Game Awards 2021? Place your vote in our poll and expand on your thoughts in the comments below.

Psychonauts 2 won’t win
But it should
Where the F*ck is Returnal??!?!
Ratchet need to get his just deserve and WIN!!!
Village being nominated is a huge LOL
Returnal should be there instead of that game...
Judging by the number of nominations, I think Deathloop has a strong shot. But maybe also Metroid Dread?
I love that Ratchet’s highest on the poll. The question is ‘what will win’. Ratchet categorically will not win, I’d bet my house on that.
The wrong game will win as it is not even nominated.
FORZA HORIZON 5. 92% meta.
Highest rated new game of 2021.
Haven’t played it yet but I have a feeling that Deathloop will take it.
Weak year, metroid dread should win.
Sammy please make a quiz about every category
Sorry everyone, but there's no way Ratchet wins GOTY.
I really want re village to win. I thought it did perfectly what it set out to do. The eastern European aesthetic, how it made me think twice when or if I should expend my bullets/ coins and every boss fight was memorable
And I’m not baiting.
I have all 3 consoles and playground games have crafted a AAA top end game with pure passion for the series. It is an insult.
I will feel the same if HZDFW or BOTW 2 are amazing games and lose out as well.
Haven’t played Rift Apart but I hope it wins because I love R&C and want them to keep making more 😬
Either Resident evil or Ratchet and Clank
Only other outsider with a chance is Metroid Dread
@Dezzy70 only thing I can think of is that it was released too late and missed the cut off point otherwise yes forza would of won. I'm just as gutted there's no tales of Arise either
@Arisen & it didn't release as a buggy mess capcom released a game that was finished
In a year that was obviously really sparse as usual during a launch year for me the best game this year was Resident Evil Village. Yeh it was short, the gun play could have been a little bit better and the story definitely would have massively benefited from it doubling in length but it’s stands out from what was released. Imo
I love Ratchet and Clank, it showed the power of the ps5 ssd but a ip from Bethesda that came out with 9s and 10s historically wins. Or even the first true Metroid game in many years. Too tough to choose
Deathloop but it's not because the game is that good. There are other things about that game that will make the gaming press vote for it. Can't believe Returnal wasn't nominated when these same gaming press people couldn't stop praising Hades last year.
@Dezzy70 FH5 and Death’s Door both should have been on the list. Death’s Door would have been an instant vote from me.
With what we’re stuck with, I have to go with Psychonauts 2.
@Yaycandy Historically? Which other new IPs from Bethesda have come out and won GOTY? Skyrim wasn't a new IP
@AFCC Agree with everything you said and like someone else mentioned the game was released spotless with no technical issues, many bugs and it looked and played like a dream.
@awp69
Agree I think that’s the only one left to go for.
@UltimateOtaku91
Dam shame it missed the cut of point.
Not sure why they cut off the point so early
As the nominees have only just been announced.
Should have been FH5 year really.
Metroid Dread, because it's Nintendo
I think they forgot to list Returnal… 🤔 Hey, can someone call game awards and let them know?
I really don’t know.
😅
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Metroid Dread are my personal favourite games from the nominations listed (but why no Returnal? 😡). For some reason however, I have a funny feeling that it’ll be Deathloop that picks up the gong for Game of the Year.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition is the winner. Leaps and bounds better than anything new released.
I agree with some others here, among this year's games, Forza Horizon 5 should be the clear winner. Racing games never win, but there's a thin herd of games this year and that game is just the complete package you could hope for in a top class game.
Short of that, my own choice here would be Psychonauts 2. It's not the biggest or prettiest game, but it goes out on quite a few ledges while being solid and polished in every way. It's exceptional experimentalism in games without ever being ill conceived or overstaying its welcome.
But it won't win, either.
Deathloop....it got some buzz, but Arkane remains the Susan Lucci of gaming (See, @rjejr I used it in context again!), we've got another 20 years until they're entitled to the prize. I don't see Deathloop changing their fortunes this year. I'd be amazed if it won, but can't rule it out entirely.
I love R&C. I stayed up all night to get my preorder on a PS5 fueled in large part for R&C....but there's not a hope or a prayer of that winning, and I'm ok with that, I don't think that's the right game for the prize.
So it comes to RE Village or Dread. I'm a big Metroid fan since the 80's. Dread's a very good game but has some very big flaws. If that wins, it's politics and fan obsession with the series. It's a game that deserves to be played, especially for series fans, but it's not a game that deserves a GOTY prize, at all.
So by default I presume the winner is Village. Not stoked about it, I'm not into horror, so I haven't played it. My outside impression is that it, too, is good for what it is, but not really GOTY material, but the lack of other competition means it kind of wins by default by being more qualified than the other games in the group.
Such a shame FH5 can't be in the running though. It deserves it, through and through. The game is darned near perfection in its genre, and a master class in how to put out a product polished to a shine, no matter how colossal the scope, that starts on a high note and then keeps on going. And I'm not even a racing fan!
I agree with some others on Returnal, though I haven't played it yet. I see why it's not much of a commercial success, but from a critical take, I could have seen it running for GOTY easily. Being a roguelike really holds it back by reducing it's scope, though, which is also why it released at the wrong price point, and sales reflect it's limited appeal and inappropriate price.
This year suck for gaming.. even farcry 6 was a let down for me. Anyways, out of that list, RE village should be the winner but it won't win. The winner instead will be Deathloop or Metroid Dread.
Imagine hosting a poll for player opinions then getting mad when they all vote Ratchet lol
Also double lol at people then saying Dread will win not Ratchet in comments despite Dread looking like a psp game and being even shorter than Rift Apart
Pretty pathetic line up
The fact that Returnal and Forza 5 didn’t make the list is a joke.
Also, Deathloop was mediocre at best and will likely win.
Really wish Returnal and Forza were nominees. Regardless, I think Deathloop will win. I’m glad the poll results love Rift Apart, but sorry Ratchet I don’t think this is your year.
Ratchet and Clank kinda came and went, it was pretty to look at and fun but nothing exceptional. I enjoyed Psychonauts 2 more but got a bit fed up of it towards the end. This year really hasn’t had any stand out games.
Out of the list I’d actually like to see Resident Evil 8 win, I haven’t played it myself but know a couple of my friends love that game and it was very well received as far as I’m aware.
But yeah some good games this year, but nothing exceptional imo. I don’t care what wins tbh.
Metroid Dread! Let the franchise have its day for such a triumph!
I think Metroid Dread will win.
@UltimateOtaku91 @Dezzy70 Games released between November 21st 2020 and November 19th 2021 were eligible. Forza Horizon 5 likely wasn't nominated for GotY because it's a racing game.
Returnal getting snubbed really???
It takes two is by far the best game I’ve played this year
@Grumblevolcano
Well perhaps when we get GTA6 in the future and if it’s amazing, it won’t get nominated as it is the 6th in the series and just a run a round shooting thing game 😂😂😂
Returnal being snugged is frustrating. It was a great game, but the difficulty scared away many. My GOTY.
Metroid Dread or Resident evil 8 will win
Metroid Dread should win, but it probably won't because 2D Nintendo game. Actual winner will probably be Deathloop or Ratchet and Clank.
It'll be Deathloop because it's an FPS, but I'd rather see Ratchet win.
I'm leaning towards Metroid or Resident Evil.
@Dezzy70 actually yeah there is no cut off point since I just noticed shin megami tensei 5 is nominated for best RPG and that game came out after Forza
Just looks like they don't like racing games
Most likely Deathloop, because it's the only game I don't like on the list and those usually win
@UltimateOtaku91
Racing games never really get or got the credit some of them deserved.
@Juanalf besides the door glitches the game was pristine!
@NEStalgia "I stayed up all night to get my preorder on a PS5 fueled in large part for R&C."
I just spent (an hour ago) after many months of searching, $620 to play R&C, so I hope it wins to justify my expense. 😁
https://mobile.twitter.com/bobmrik/status/1460686300827246596
Finished Metroid today and honestly it was a solid 8. Very enjoyable but I really don’t understand the 10/10 hype personally. It didn’t do anything new or exciting. Has nothing on Hollow Knight. If Returnal was there that would probably get my vote, but in absence of that I’ve gone for Ratchet, though I did really enjoy Deathloop too.
@Grumblevolcano "Not nominated because it's a [insert genre here] game kind of highlights why these awards tend to be a joke not worth spending time on to begin with. Same for Returnal. Maybe it shouldn't win, and I personally dislike roguelikes, but it seems like the only reason it wasn't nominated is it's a "banned genre" and it's not popular.
"Best Video Game Of The Year As Long As It's Not a Racing, Sports, RTS, Online Arena Shooter, Squad Shooter, MOBA, Turn Based Strategy, SRPG, JRPG, MMORPG, or 2D Platformer (**unless it says Nintendo on the box)" is too long to fit on the trophy so they just go with "Game of the Year"?
@rjejr LOL....wait, $620 for a PS5 and R&C direct from the Sony Store?! Does that include tax or is Uncle Jimmy skimming off the top and scalping these things on the company stationary?
Either way, congrats on joining the PS5 club so you can join us in praising Game Pass games here on Push Square
I actually bought my PS5 with Ratchet as a primary motivation.....and still haven't bought it yet lol! I kinda wanted it to be my "Easter game" as a matter of tradition, but it missed launch window, and by June I was mostly doing Switch, so I figured I'll save it as a Christmas game. Something cute and light for the holiday. Hoping for a Black Friday/Cyber Monday digital sale on it though since I waited this long. I loved the PS4 one, one of my most fun (not GOTY but just plain fun) experiences on the console, so I'm eager for more, even if it's under-length and over-priced
It'd be fun to see Metroid win. The series has been out of commission for so long, after all, and it'd be interesting to see a 2D game win. I don't think it will, though.
I haven't played any of these games, though, so I have no real investment in what wins or loses.
@NEStalgia I purchased R&C, my wife's suggestion, b/c both of my kids and I want to play it, my wife will watch me play as she has every R&C game since 1. But mostly I paid it b/c Sony pulled the old - free shipping if you buy a game otherwise you have to pay. I think shipping was $19.99, so a $70 game it was. Only other game choice was TLOU2 for $40 but I'll be the only 1 playing that.
So $499.99 console + $69.99 game + 8.75% tax ($50) = $620.🤑
Well, I’d personally like It Takes Two, but think the fantastic Rift Apart will take it.
Honestly I haven't played enough of these games to have a fair shout on GOTY. But here is one thing I will say. Several people including @ShogunRok are saying it is a weak year, seemingly because we don't have some 95+% masterpiece to rule the roost. I disagree. This year has seen so much great gaming. To name a few AAA's that aren't nominated in these top 6.
Returnal, Forza Horizon 5, Monster Hunter Rise, Death's Door, Hitman 3, The Forgotten City, Guardian's of the Galaxy, Tales of Arise, THPS 1+2, Life is Strange True Colours, SMT V, Lost Judgement, Jurassic World Evolution 2, Monster Hunter Stories 2, Far Cry 6, Scarlet Nexus, Rider's republic, Back 4 Blood, Bravely Default 2, Outriders, CoD Vanguard.
On the Indie side we've seen Kena, Chicory, Unpacking, The Artful Escape, Inscryption, Ender Lilies, Little Nightmares II, Eastward, Neo: The world ends with you, Cyber Shadow, Toem, Boomerang X, Genesis Noir, F.I.S.T., Narita Boy, Sable, Moonglow bay, Echo Generation, Mighty Goose, The Ascent.
And there's been a bunch of great remasters remakes and DLC like Mass Effect: Trilogy, Disco Elysium: Final Cut, THPS 1+2, FF VII remake intergrade, MS Flight Sim GOTY, Super Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury, Death Stranding: Directors cut, Ghost of Tsushima: Directors Cut, Ni-oh Collection, Doki Doki Lit Club, Scott pilgrim v the world, Crysis Trilogy, Sonic Colours ult, Ninja Gaiden Collection, Alan Wake Remastered
If THAT is a bad year, i'll take a few more like it please
Too many games, not enough time
I've been an absolutely huge Ratchet & Clank fan since the original ps2 game, but sadly Rift Apart left me underwhelmed.
Visually stunning, but the narrative I personally felt was very weak and generic compared to previous entries. I miss the corporate spoofs and tongue in cheek humour of the ps2 games... Also was expecting the Rift mechanic to be utilised way more and similarly to one of the world's in Crack in Time on ps3 where you constantly go back and forth in time to change the outcome of the present world.
For me game of the year goes to Psychonauts 2... Enjoyed every minute of it to 100% completion.
They did Returnal too dirty
@AFCC "besides the door glitches the game was pristine!"
Yeah is too bad about the door glitches, perhaps capcom should have gotten programming tips from Grove street games 😌
The list is invalid without returnal
@Futureshark I think Returnal is great but, in terms of numbers of players and worldwide reach, it isn't mainstream enough to win Geoff's The Last of Us Awards.
Even though it doesn't deserve game of the year, Deathloop is probably going to win. I mean, come on. Does Deathloop actually hold a candle to games that are actual games of the year, like Breath of the Wild, The Last of Us: Part 2, God of War, and The Witcher 3?
I think the lot of you misread the poll. It doesn't say "What game do you want to win" it says "What game WILL win"
Ratchet & Clank will not win Game of the Year.
I'm thinking Deathloop will probably win because a lot of the gaming media have a soft spot for it.
I would like to see either Ratchet, Metroid or Psychonauts 2 win.
Psychonauts 2 is the game of the year, without question. And if I had to choose a runner up, it would be Gardeners....er I mean Guardians Of The Galaxy.
My game of the year is It Takes Two. I have had so much fun playing the game with my friend that I almost wish I never played it just so I could replay it again.
None are so exceptional I would be bothered by any particular winner or loser.
Only game I have not polayed there is Deathloop
But out of the rest... ReVillage takes it in my book. Just the opening set up puts it ahead.
I want it to be Rift Apart of It Takes 2 but chances are Arkane takes the cake
@NEStalgia
I have Vanguard, Shin megami 5, Bright Memory Infinite, Lone Echo 2... and the game that had me up last night at 2AM was Forza Horizon 5.
It is a brilliant game and a joy to play
Remember to check your mail for the Free Spider 20th Anniversary gift.
@themightyant No I agree, outside of new releases, it's not been a bad year at all. I've played some excellent games this year, but most of them have been re-releases. Judgment on PS5, Disco Elysium, Ghost of Tsushima DC... Only a couple of new releases have really stood out to me — notably Guilty Gear Strive and Tales of Arise.
I just don't think that there have been any blindingly obvious GOTY candidates. That GOTY list is full of good games — but actual GOTY candidates? In a year with something like The Witcher 3, God of War, The Last of Us... I don't think any of them would have a chance. That's mostly what I'm getting at.
2021's had its fair share of great games, for sure. But how many of them have been up there at the very top of the scale? Very, very few I'd argue.
I want Metroid to win. It deserves to win
@ShogunRok I kinda agree with you but can you explain why?
@ShogunRok Yeah I know, I was slightly teasing. I agree there is no clear stand out GOTY that is a must play for almost everyone and as such the GOTY Top 5 looks a bit thin.
But I also think it's easy to knee-jerk response and call it a 'weak' or light year because of that. When there have been so many very good games to play, just few that are truly exceptional.
There's been more that I can manage and I play far more than I should!
Regardless if half the games expected to come out in 2022 actually hit that date and if they are anywhere near as good as we hope then it will be a year to remember! 🤞
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, it's the only game I've played from that list.
(I'm waiting for 50% off sales on the other games)
Haven't played any of the GOTY nominees but i guess itd be neat to see either SMTV or Tales of Arise win best rpg and either FFXIV or Genshin win best ongoing game.
Intelligent AI has been around since the 90s.
But truthfully, it's been a quiet forgettable year, RE:Village should win.
@Judal27 RPG Of The Year is rigged if Cyberpunk 2077 wins
I think Forza arrived too late to make the list. From reactions and scores looks like it deserved to win even if it’s on a rival platform. Let’s face it, not many games look next gen, maybe Rachet
@themightyant If February 2022 somehow stays the way it is then I fear the video game industry might just implode.
@anoyonmus I think when you look at the other nominees, it just seems unlikely that Ratchet will win. Not impossible, but against games like Deathloop, even Metroid Dread... They just strike me as games that judges are more likely to vote for.
That said, if GOTY is totally fan voted then... Ratchet might actually have a chance if enough people rally for it. Still seems a bit unlikely though, without a major push.
Banking on Metroid, but It Takes Two has my entire heart.
Xboxers are raging for FH5 and i think they will vote for psychonauts 2.
My Goty this year was Returnal, but Ratchet is great and i hope wins.
Returnal, obvs.
@rjejr
Congrats on the purchase.
@Gamer83 Thanks my dude. Feels like we've come a long way since Delaystation w/ the PS4 launch and now I spend an entire year trying to buy a console that plays all the same games as the console I already have. 🤷♂️ But d*mn if I'm letting that 4k tv go to waste. 😂
@anoyonmus definitely doesn't deserve it lol, it could be worse though. I was actually kinda expecting it to be nominated for goty just because of how these award shows work. Good that it wasn't
@rjejr PS4 Pro Plus, indeed.
But you know it's worth it....
@Agramonte It's so true. I have a ton of games in progress including GoT Iki Island I just bought, but what am I playing? FH5...... And I just can't put it down...
I always forget to check for the special items, thanks👍
@Judal27 It is nominated
Rift apart is great and i platinumed it instantly but it'd honestly be a stretch to say its game of the year tbh.
When put up against everything else this year, its easy to tell it falls short in a few places...
@anoyonmus I meant the actual goty award. It's not on the list of GOTY, from what I've seen it's only nominated for best RPG
@Telekill agreed ME remaster was an absolute joy to play. My GOTY for sure.
Really tough to say since I've only played Ratchet and Clank
Terrible year for games. I've seen comments saying there have been good but not great games. Y'all need to play some of the games from last gen and wake up. Mass Effect remaster and the 4k versions of older games are way better than that top 5 combined. This year has had possibly 2 good games for the whole year.
The two biggest for me were Returnal and Disco Elysium. Both big let downs. Returnals okay, but veers too wacky and has some strange progression mechanics. It's frustrating rather than fun and I much prefer Nex Machina due to the camera position. Then Disco Elysium is again overrated to a ridiculous degree, it's new, novel and the writing is great. Wrapped in a monkey island style gameplay loop which went out of fashion on the Amiga. Slow, cumbersome with laggy controls and the game soft locked me due to gated progression. Appalling.
I've had more fun with Monster Hunter and Borderlands 2 than anything released this year outside of mass effect. Dire.
@NEStalgia PS4 Pro Plus actually kind of works for me since we never had a Pro so I'm still skipping iterations.😀 Was in Target today thinking this is probably my last console though unless Switch 2 gets Pikmin 4. If PS5 gets new games for 8 years - see PS4 - I'll be 64. 😩

Sooo,noone gonna vote for GTA Definitive edition remaster? 🤔It's certainly legendary....in how not to do a remaster!!😋😂
Sounds like a lot of people here haven’t played It Takes Two.
That game was so creative and fun the whole way through it 100% deserves to win. Otherwise Psychonauts 2. Those two games are my Multiplayer and Single Player games of the year respectively.
The fact that Ratchet got so many votes here is a bit cringe!
From those on the list Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for sure.
I'm curious why Returnal wasn't nominated, given the ton of praises it received.
It seems Game Awards became biased, nominating only what titles fit their agenda... kinda like the Eurovision competition/awards, where only countries that can host the show have a chance of winning, the others are there just for kicks, no matter the quality of the song and performance.
Where's the "Null" option?
I don't care for any of these...
@ShogunRok "If February 2022 somehow stays the way it is then I fear the video game industry might just implode."
Saints row was the first to blink. Think you scared them Rob
Only played Ratchet from the list and it is just an average game and should not even be included, its graphically and technically very good, but the rest is just average and not GOTY worthy.
Hi there fellow gamers.
out of those I think it will be between Metroid Dread and Rachet and Clank Rift Apart..... And Deathloop.
One is the return of a beloved Nintendo franchise in the right way and the other is a power showcase of what the PS5 can do. And Deathloop. Wich is a great game in it´s own way.
But we all know wich game wins don´t we?
It´s RETURNAL, obviously. And Forza Horizon 5.
And there you have it.
Cheers, stay safe and happy gaming to us all
@Telekill Hi there friend.
A person with great taste I see.
That trilogy will forever be one of the most amazing and ambitious gaming sagas of all time.
That is why I´m actualy excited for the new Mass Effect game.
I just want more space exploring, galaxy saving, villain weapon and power shooting and romance/bromance with great squad members. That´s not to much to ask, is it?
Cheers, stay safe and have a good one
@rjejr
LMAO! For what it's worth, I do think you made a good choice. I've been much more happy with the PS5's first 12 months on the market than I was the PS4's first 2 1/2 years.
@nessisonett What a bold bet to make, considering you have an 83% chance to win by default.
Now if you were willing to bet your house on the one game that will win, that’d be impressive.
@Gamer83 I think I made the right choice, but 55 years of being money conscious still makes $620 for basically 1 game a large pill to swallow. 🤯 Switch Mario Odyssey bundle with case was $400 6 months after launch but I knew we'd put 1,000s of hours onto that machine. Before that - PS4, X1, PS3, Wii U, Wii, Dreamcast, GameCube, PS2, PS1 - I've always bought 2 to 3 years after launch for $200-$300. OK Wii U was $350 but it's saved me a lot of money on Switch games. 😂
Will be nice to boot up the console and not have my database be rebuilt every other time, it's getting kind of nerve wracking. 😝 So yeah, looking forward to it. Mostly just happy I don't have to look any more, that was killing me. 🤣
@rjejr @Agramonte You guys are a jinx! rjejr finally got a PS5 after a year. Agramonte reminded me to download the custom FH5 car. So, yesterday I'm playing FH5 for a few hours like the day before. I was just about done, but remembered about the custom car. Downloaded it and ran it around the street a little....everything was good, was about to switch to another game briefly and then I was done. As I'm cruising down with the custom car, the screen blanks out and the controller disconnects. The power supply in my XSX died suddenly. Ugh! Fortunately it's still under warranty by a mere 2 weeks (lucky!) but I honestly didn't expect the console to just go "poof" like that a year from purchase almost to the day, and no problems with it at all until then.
Needless to say FH5 is done for now (or forever?) and I'm back on Iki Island for a while... I was legit looking at scalper prices trying to justify it last night.
BTW, you'll be buying consoles at 64. As long as we're not broke (spoiler: we will be) by then, we'll by buying them into our 70s at least. No question. Unless the games/predatory stuff takes over and ruins it and we no longer want to of course.
@JJ2 You had me convinced, I really tried! I remembered to download Dark Souls 3 last night on the XSX. It downloaded while I was playing FH5 and was going to give it 10 or 15 min when I was done with FH5 and just check it out based on your suggestions. And then literally 3 minutes before I was going to switch to it, the console died........ Ah well, DS, is really not meant to be for me!
@Judal27 oh I see
@NEStalgia
Damn
Sorry to hear. Hope you get a new one or it gets fixed.
@Onigumo Metroid sucks
@NEStalgia
Oh NO!... I told my cousin and 2 co-workers also. There is going to be a graveyard of GPUs and Xbox in my wake!? 😥
Sorry to hear that - Hope you can get warranty service quickly and with no issues.
@rjejr Amazing, congratz! now go play Ratchet and Clank.
My grandmother at 82 bought and ask me to play Sonic so she could watch. I intent to stay in this hobby in any shape way or form as long as I can. Even if just as an 80 year old benefactor/supervisor like she was 😅
100% still be tinkering with Gaming PCs, that is for sure. That is an obsession wrapped in a hobby. And 3X more of a budget busting drain in our finances than the console side of things.
"I've always bought 2 to 3 years after launch"
Well, think about it this way. The older we get and less time in the tank we have - the quicker we need to start each 8 year Gen 😜
@NEStalgia The power supply IN your console, not just what I'm assuming is a big honking black box? So the console itself is now a storage shed instead of a fridge? Man that really does suck. At least it's still under warranty. MS keeps all your saves in Bill Gates lunchbox right, you can get those back? Can you mail it in and have it repaired or find a place nearby?
Well I don't see how my getting a PS5 is a jinx so I'm putting this on @Agramonte 😉
@Agramonte "The older we get and less time in the tank we have - the quicker we need to start each 8 year Gen"
Yeah I was already thinking that, but more on the morbid side.ike, there's no reason to play FF7R PT 1 b/c they won't finish while I'm still breathing. 😝 I'm really glad GoW is just a 2 parter and not a trilogy b/c I was worried about that as well.
Your the 2nd person to mention a grandmother buying a PS5 to me, giving me hope. 😁
I still tinker w/ PCs. Just put an SSD in a PC I rarely ever use b/c no PC in 2021 should have to boot off of a HDD. I still have HDD for storage in all our PC but the boot drives are all SSD. I'll probably try to survive w/ my PS4 2TB external HDD for a while on the PS5 before opening the $500 system up.
And yeah, R&C first, that 1 looks special. Then all the PS4 games I've been saving. 😎
@rjejr Yep, the Fridge is now a shed. It's an internal PSU, same as PS (and unlike the VCR XBone, which I now kinda appreciate.)
It must be a semi-common problem as when I googled "series x power supply" I came up with multiple "how to open up the console and replace the power supply" articles of "moderate" difficulty that take 45min-1hr, and an Amazon link to buy a PSU for $75. Nice that its actually a doable repair, but still complicated enough to get to the part I'm glad I don't have to do it (this time.)
Fortunately, yeah, it's narrowly still in warranty and they do make that process way easier than last time I had to deal with PS service, so at least there's that. I just logged into my account, it knows the device is connected to my account, I just went into it, hit the service button and it just walked me through printing a shipping label and setting up the work order. Really simple process. No phone calls and waiting to the hold ads for an hour and convincing a gateway rep that you really do need to get it fixed.
I do wish the warranty was more than 1 year seeing how this happened only barely inside that year. Things like this really ought to have longer warranties.
Weird part is I save the original box for this kind of thing, and dug it out, and then read that you shouldn't send it in that, so I just found a random cardboard box and some bubble wrap I just happened to have laying around from a box that arrived that day.
Cloud save and the like is automatic. I doubt the SSD will be wiped at all since they're just doing a repair not replace, but if it is, the saves are there, and downloading 1TB isn't a huge deal on fiber.
I've lost a LOT of PC PSUs over the years, but never a console one. It's just a strange feeling. Also strange how it happened. PC PSUs tend to get flaky before they fail. Frequent spontaneous shutoffs, BSODs, whatever. This worked perfectly, all year, played a game for hours, then just completely randomly just died. Never had a PC PSU fail like that.
Makes me glad my PS5 has that launch behemoth extra few pounds of copper on the heatsink
@Juanalf I was talking about Returnal, not Village x)
@rjejr
Well FF7R is Square Enix - at the pace they work, even people in their 20s can be in danger of not finishing it 😜
I have not tried to put an extra drive in my PS5 either. I keep one game at a time most of the time. Finished GOTG, deleted it and have COD Vanguard now.
It has been a year and I still have most of the space empty on the PS5 drive.
@Agramonte I have a running bet with myself that Squenix never finishes making all the chapters of FF7R so I don't think anyone will ever get to actually finish it.
See also Lego Hobbit 3rd movie DLC 😝
I saw that there's 667GB free in PS5 and while I currently have about 2TB worth of games on PS4, 1TB internal and 1 of 2TB external, I really doubt I'd need more than 300-400. But we'll see, gotta get it first. Shipping email said tomorrow!! 😱
i hoping Metroid Dread win game of the year.
@Giancarlothomaz we gotta vote for it and hope it wins. Speaking of Dread, I just bought it off the Eshop today. I hope I enjoy it
Tales of Arise deserves an award in my book. I spent 130 hours on that game and loved every minute of it.
@NEStalgia
Oh good morning.
It’s weird I could see your latest notification but could not see your comment. I had to go to your profile read your comment history and reply to this comment. Anyway.
I didn’t play Sekiro knowing it’s not a game for me. I don’t know if you have the same customisation freedom regarding well everything but I don’t think so.
In that way I’m not referring to RPG as a technical classification for a type of game but as my own feeling of Role Playing.
I loved DS3 more than Demons Souls as I think it feels more of a journey and I found Demon Souls really easy. You still have freedom in the way you approach them though.
Sorry if I maybe unclear.
@JJ2 Yeah, that's weird! Something happened with that original Black Friday sale story. It looks like when they updated it this morning with prices they must have deleted the old article and re-posted it as a new one. All of yesterday's comments are gone... Thanks for navigating that to reply!
That's interesting that you definitely prefer DS3. It's the one that clicked with me more than 1 and 2, but most Souls fans seem to rank it last. (And everyone loves Bloodborne, but that one really didn't click with me.) I'll definitely have to go back to 3, then. Still a shame that I have the XB version that never got a 1X patch so it runs terribly at 30fps. I have the old 1X hooked up while the XSX is out of commission, but I'm focusing mostly on PS5 while the X is down.)
DS3 is on the Black Friday PS sale, but it's still $30, which I'm pretty sure is much more than I paid 4 years ago on a random non-holiday sale. These digital sales are getting worse!
It's also interesting that you found Demon Souls easy. That might be a good one to break into the gameplay patterns more easily before going back to 3. For $40 it's low enough I might bite.
Thanks!
@NEStalgia
Oh I did like Bloodborne but it’s obscure, dark and very depressing for me even though it’s brilliant gameplay. Demons souls is more uplifting to play with beautiful graphics but you need to inform yourself on the basics like how tendencies work etc. I think that’s main soul like games issue that people find difficult but taking time to know how the game works makes them more manageable. A bit like trying to play chess that some people would not have the patience to inform themselves on basic chess theory first. Also PS5 fast loading makes farming easy and tempting.
I don’t have Xbox but I heard DS3 got framerate boosts to 60fps even though it’s still 900p so that’s that.
@JJ2 yeah Bloodborne, the environment really didn't motivate me to play, especially when I find the series already hard to approach.
So...I did splurge on demons souls..... And it isn't going well 🤣. Just in the first part of the palace, I still am missing something about the cadence of combat. I started as the default Knight, and really kept getting destroyed by trash mobs. His movements are just too slow and lumbering. I tried switching to magician, someone told me in ds1 magician is much easier. It went better for sure so first, even with sword combat his Dodge rolls and swings are faster and paced better for me..... But... Since MP runs out so easily, the magic part still feels limiting.
The one common theme for me is even if I do get farther after I die I do worse and worse,I think just because I get frustrated and lose interest in doing the same thing over and over so my heart isn't really in it anymore.. last night I got further than before up on the ramparts... Not sure if I can describe how far, died, then died on the first 5 trash mob zombies the next run, losing all my souls, so it's as though I'm back to the start. Ugh, it's just too frustrating to play like that! Is a shame because it's really cool overall, but the rogue like backtracking is even worse than in an actual rogue like. I want to like it, but I have to figure out a way to play that doesn't reset me to zero all the time.
Edit: also, I forgot about the fps boost on ds3 xb. That's at least something. I can't believe that game is still $30 on sales!
@NEStalgia
You need to know a few things like your load impact your agility and you get a fat roll if your too heavy. So the class is only a start you change as you go. It takes some practice for the combat. DS easier than bloodborne. You have shield. Keep shield up light enemy bounce on it and then you kill it easy. More dangerous enemy you lock shield, turn around them then lower shield to then backstab with R1. Parry can be tricky and risky you may try but I think a lot of people don’t even bother. Have a bow and upgrade it makes things even more manageable. You don’t have to kill everything. Sometimes run holding circle to open shortcuts or get stuff. I’m no expert just basic stuff to get practice going. You get to know the place and things get easier and more enjoyable as you progress. Also world tendency means if you die being in human form the world will get darker and harder enemy. You best be in gosh form most of the time to get pure white tendency and unlock pure white tendency gates etc. to start with
@JJ2 I assume the default characters wouldn't start out too heavy, but yeah, there's not much explanation in Souls games and I don't think I've ever really known the systems and how they work. I trial and error it, but bad results get frustrating fast. If I figure it out in one game I'm sure it translates ok to the others.
I was wondering about parrying. It seemed so incredibly risky, and in most games my timing tends to miss parries more than not. I assumed it was probably essential, but I'm so bad at at, I was going to skip it. It's good to know it's not really necessary.
I think the only ranged classes are the hunter and the 2 magic users (I love the magic, I play mages in most RPGs, but it's so limited in Souls games it makes it hard to use.) Maybe I'll try hunter next. There's a lot of classes and it's really hard to tell what each is good at. I also haven't upgraded anything because I keep losing all my souls. It's a game I can only take in short bursts, because the more I lose, the worse I play! If I could unlock what makes it "tick" I'm sure I could enjoy the whole series.
@NEStalgia
You can pick up a bow later in any class I think early in the game. If a starting class feels to heavy for you then you can just unequip some stuff for the time being. I forgot when you can start level up.
I think parry is only essential in Bloodborne because you don’t have shield.
No brainer its Rachet and clank rift apart its too early for Froza horizon 5 can't give it award for being few months old unless about 6months or more maybe
@anoyonmus it would make a change from a playstation game always taken the award 😆
@fR_eeBritney they wil the game deserves it
@Dezzy70 whole point of game of the year means game being out fot atleast 6months to a year Froza horizon 5 is great but right now rachet and clank rift apart deserves GOTY FH5 cant win it next year there's few big games coming on all platforms probably wil win best racer Unless GRAND TORISMO does well original racing simulation FH5 more like need4speed or old classic from Rockstar games Midnight club open world racing aswell
