It's been a whole month since the release of Deathloop on PlayStation 5. Dishonored developer Arkane's newest non-linear excursion was a hit with critics, attracting high review scores across the board. We gave it a very respectable 8/10 in our Deathloop PS5 review, in which we concluded: "Few games have the confidence and swagger of Deathloop. It may be the final game out of Arkane Studios to hit Sony consoles, but the developer goes out with an undisputed bang."
But what do you think of the often strange first-person shooter? Are you down with Colt and his loop-breaking agenda, or did Deathloop miss its mark? Give it a review score in our poll, and then feed us your honest opinion in the comments section below.

I gave it a 9. Great game overall with just a few issues that for me kept it from being a 10.
The fact that I kept playing after beating it to get the platinum trophy speaks volumes for the game in my mind. I don't typically aim to get platinum trophies in games.
I'd split the difference and go for a 7.5. I liked it quite a bit, but I don't have any motivation to go back and replay it or 100% it. I don't know what video game those critics who gave it a 10 were playing.
@RBMango apparently 7% of respondents agreed it was a 10, or approximately 11% of respondents who had played the game, so the reviewers aren't by any means alone.
Edit: to be fair, that could easily line up with those who'd played it for 5 hours or less, which would be about right for the average reviewer too.
Who the hell is giving Deathloop a 1/10?
A 7 is good, above average but lacking in whatever department(s) to be considered as a top bracket game.
8 is very good, it does everything well.
9 is excellent. The game excels in every category but has minor issues that hold it back from being faultless
10 is without-doubt brilliance and the pinnacle in game design and execution. Faultless. Will still be remembered as a masterpiece years from now.
This game is an 8. I can understand if people want to argue that its a 7 or a 9. It is 100% not a 10 and to consider this a 10 is to lower standards. Any serious reviewer giving this a 10 and publishing it online is a hack. ....and seriously, some of you are voting 10?! 😆 I love polls!!!
I really enjoyed the premise and the gameplay at large, just wish it delved into the lore a lot more than it did.
@AK4tywill oh thats easy, the ones who haven't played it 😄 polls are a trolls wet dream 😁 it even rhyms.
Dunno. I’ll be breaking the hoop when the price drops way dowwwwwn down down down
Well I bought the game cause amazon gave me a random discount on it. Haven't played it yet though xD Maybe starting today..
10 / 10 without a shadow of a doubt. Best game of the year so far - witty, clever, superb design with fantastic characters ! It's just different from anything, true breath of fresh air
@Integrity ...that should be in a song lol !
@Integrity ..I'd give it 10 no worries, its fantastic.
Next year for a discounted price
It got a five from me. I can't honestly say there's anything in this game that i haven't experienced before, it's been underwhelming. It has very little challenge from the A.I. I had a impression that Juliana was going to be someone who makes the map difficult to get around when she turns up. There's been a few times where i have killed her within seconds of her appearing.
Gave it a 8. Really liked Colt as a character. Him and Julianna had great banter. Great setting and story with varied antagonists. However it felt too easy after a short time imo. Weapons and abilities came too easy. I only used some slabs for trophies and mainly used aether, shift and nexus. Also I found the story didnt really answer mamy questions at the end.
People giving it a 10 are doing so because they'd have buyers remorse otherwise. People giving it a 1 probably just hate Bethesda with a passion now.
Its a great game but i would say its weaker then the Dishonoured games and Prey.
I gave it an 8. I found it fun with interesting story/mechanics, but the repetitive nature of it later on just got old for me. Definitely worth a buy though.
When i hear the several issues with it i cant believe this game is a 10. But i believe there are 10 games because that would be saying there is nothing to improve. The AI isnt that great is what i hear about it.
This is my game of the year so far. It’s definitely a 9 for me, I know some people complain it’s too short and linear, but that’s actually something I love about it. The gameplay loop is a blast, the story is intriguing and the acting is great.
this game is not a 10/10
@KingPev So for you the game is perfect and not a single thing you would change?
@Flaming_Kaiser ..there's no such thing as a 'perfect' game. But for me, this stands out for what it does and how it does it in relation to other games - all its parts add up. Its a game that stands up to repeated replays to improve and experiment and try speed runs. Not many games you can say that about. But hey, that's my opinion anyway
A solid 5 from me, found it tedious very quickly. Luckily we are all different 🤠
I think this game should be an 8. It just doesn't have that same stature as many games that have gotten 10s before. Like you still hear about God of War, TLOU, etc. I doubt this will be revered as much years from now, unless there is a sequel that is brilliant.
It's great but not a 9 or 10! Imo it's close to 8.5 or so! It's a fun time
@KingPev the Troll Poll song. Some low-grade rapper can do something with that title 😁
Deathloop is an 8.5 for me. Would have been a 9 if they didn't completely botch the ending. Other than that and some minor grievances it's a really great game. One of the better shooters I've played
@Integrity no exaggeration it's in my head now ha ha
@KingPev get the pen and paper out and make your millions Pev!
My discipline factor has ramped up. No more Day Ones. I'll play it when I buy it. And I'll buy it when it's cheap.
@Flaming_Kaiser I can’t say I agree with the idea that a game can only be a 10 if there’s absolutely nothing you’d change. A game can be a 10 for someone, but still have occasional flaws. Colin Moriarty says all the time that The Last of Us is the only perfect score he gave at IGN, but he’d change the fact that Ellie walks out in front of people when sneaking and it’s immersion breaking. I agree with that kind of sentiment. Nier Automata is my favorite game of all time and a 10 (for me), if I had the option to change 2B into an outfit that doesn’t constantly flash her butt and underwear I would, it’s unnecessary to me. Borderlands 2, which I know to most isn’t a 10, is a 10 to me, but there’s certain missions or areas I’m not too fond of, so I’d change them. I honestly think a game can be a 10 and considered a masterpiece even with having things we’d want to change.
I'm sure it's a 10/10 since it's from ARKANE and IGN, GameSpot, Eurogamer etc think so. PushSquare again being economical with scores with an 8 ugh.
And again, it's 2021 and people still think 10 means perfect after all the explanations given by various sites
@TheArt 10 does mean perfect because psychologically speaking its been the number we associate with perfection on a decimal scale. To break that association we need to eshew using arbitrary numbers to assign value. People can explain away what they consider a 10 to mean to their scoring system but in general terms its seen as a measure of perfection.
May as well do away with scores and let people make their own mind up from the prose in the review. That also has the benefit of making people actually read the review and it also means the reviewer has to do a more comprehensive job in trying to put across their thoughts and interpretations.
@Integrity ...25% royalties to you then 😉
@Integrity ....theres games over the years I'd give 10 / 10 to - Metroid Prime, The Wind Waker, MGS 5, Dead Space 2, Half Life 2, GTA V, but I'd never ever think of them as perfect by any means But they stand out as perfect examples of video games as an art form, pushing the boundaries. To me as a gamer, I wouldn't equate a 10 to how you describe it. But a great comment all the same 😉...and I agree, dump the scores altogether
@Odium Isnt a 9 a masterpiece. If you look at real reviews on IMDB then 8 out of 10 is already a brilliant movie so i have to disagree. If you give a 10 to everything it loses its value.
As a example i have the issues with RDR 2 it maybe a brilliant game but i see a lot reviews talking about not so great controls and some people even call it bad controls. And its still 10/10 and i call that bull.
My biggest issue is that these high rates mean nothing anymore because its given to easy. It also makes games that score a 8/10 a hard time.
How many times do i read yeah i only buy 9 or 10 games. Yeah somehow people think a 6 or 7/10 is garbage.
I think a short explanation on the end with good and bad makes a lot more sense. Buf thats my personal feeling about a 10/10
@AK4tywill Someone without the required hardware to play it on, ofcourse.😁
@KingPev yes..I think what I'm saying about a score out of 10 is to be taken in general terms and the broadest sense. When we measure something out of 10, whatever it is, we usually think of a 10 being as good as it gets.
But I agree on the individual scale there'll be folk who see a 10 more subjectively. Do away with scores. It makes people lazy and gives publishers an easy ride.
For example FIFA here got an 8 even though its riddled with unscrupulous monetisation scams so on the surface its like there's no problems to be had with FIFA. Its an 8. Forget that there are kids and vulnerable people who on average spent $450* on FIFA2021.
Better that there's no score giving the impression there's no problem.
Now for the important bit of my comment....yes 25% royalties is more than fair. I accept 😁
*that figure comes from the Eurogamer interview where it was revealed "only" 22% of gamers spend money. A conservative number for FIFA players last year is 15 million, 22% is 3.3 million. Last year FIFA made $1.49 billion)
I gave it a 7 myself. Thought it was overrated tbh. Yeah it has some good ideas, especially with the whole time loop stuff, and I liked the style of it, but overall it just didn’t really click with me.
@Integrity a deal then 😁.....and yeah I agree most readers ( not here before anyone has a go lol ) will look at the score and form an opinion without even reading a word of the review!
@Integrity 10/10 does not mean perfect at all.
I really want to play Deathloop but have been busy with other games and haven't paid yet. I haven't paid full price on a game since Returnal. That's not to say it isn't worth it but I game a little less than before and I've been mostly playing ps plus or digital titles I got on sale with a psn gift card I had
@KingPev ...oh how could I forget !! Mass Effect 2 will always be the perfect game to me. That one goes upto 11 !
Ah stupidly replied to my own comment there lol. Old people and technology don't mix 🙄
@Flaming_Kaiser I can understand that mindset. This is the problem with a rated score, you have your opinion, I have mine, Push Square has theirs, IGN has their own. There’s no set standard. I like that a lot of sites and reviewers have behind to move away from a score, let the review speak for itself and let the readers decide what they feel the score is.
I don’t think there’s ever been a game that I can’t find something I’d change in it, but knowing that, I view 10 as something a little different than a 100% perfect game.
@Nepp67 ok. When I gave i opinion I backed it up with my rationale and gave an example as to why I think that way. Obviously my word is not law and you're free to disagree.
However you just saying '10/10 does not mean perfect at all' doesn't really give me any sense that you've taken into consideration what I was trying to get across and just taken my statement in its most absolute, literal form, not even contemplating if it can be seen the way I say. After all I can recognise it can be seen the way you've said it and said so in my comment.
So really your reply is pretty redundant, I already made that admission. I say this with respect, because I've gone into some detail, much more than you bothered giving me.
If you enjoyed this game, play Prey if you haven't. Prey is incredible. It's so strange to me this game is getting a ton of praise and Prey didn't.
I am surprised about a 10, especially after watching videos about the AI. Would just ruin the challenge, but perhaps people like that?
Between a 6.5 and 7 from me. Don't understand what the fuss is all about with this game tbh but each to their own.
I still consider Tetris on my GB a 10 because I can play that game anytime I want to. Between other games, as short sidetrack when not busy for 10 minutes, … simple and perfect replayable gameplay. Now I love it even more with Connected because they changed it up with music & graphics…
It's no where near as good as Prey or the 2 dishonoured games. The world is much more casual with hardly anything to interact with and skills that just don't matter.
Also 4 maps? Come on, they aren't even that big as well.
It's a solid 6 or 7 still tho just because of how well the stuff it has in there is put together, but it's very targeted at more casual gamers rather than those looking for deep complex Intertwined systems to play with.
I'm not sure why they went backwards in complexity and depth for a more casual shooter that is very easy and has dumb ai, it's annoying and a slap in the face to fans of Prey and their other games. It seems they are just straight up going after the dollars now.
I don't really care, whatever, I played it and moved on after about 80% as I just couldn't be bothered, it's just annoying it scored so high, and to me it really shows the quality of games on ps5 when it came out if this was getting 10s from some people as they were so deprived of great games.
@Shions_Glasses this is not even in the same league as Prey. This is a shell of that game and yet it's getting 10s? Something not right with some of those professional reviewers like IGN....
Sorry, but it's been highly overrated. The ai is incredibly stupid to the point where it spoils the game for me.
What's the point in doing anything when you can simply stand in a doorway and mow down waves of enemies while they run at you like lemmings? Giving this game a 10 in a review is a crime.
The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that the 'finished' version of the game will be released on gamepass in a year's time.
@Denni5m @Shions_Glasses For a big fan of Arkane it's shocking I still haven't played PREY. I felt the reviews were a bit divided and for Arkane's standards it was pretty low on MC. Tried the demo multiple times felt it was okay, but reading the way y'all are praising it, guess I might just buy it.
EDIT: Matter of fact I just bought it, the digital deluxe is on sale.
@Denni5m agreed! I felt the same way. Prey is shockingly complex. They made a working space station. You could take it out of the game, plop it in space and it would function. DL feels like half a game in comparison. The 4 maps feel more like multiplayer maps.
Genuinely enjoyed this game so much!!!
@Odium Lets agree to disagree i have no issue with that.
So many glitches, also all in all the world is pretty small and starts to feel that way after going through it a few times, still an 8 for me but far from perfect
I like the must buy, buy if you are a fan of the genre, wait for sale, and avoid categories for scoring games.
@velio84 i think Prey on ps5 is just the bog standard ps4 pro version 1080p 30fps. while the xbox series x version runs 1440p 60fps. the greatest benefit for both is load times they were horrendous on old consoles SSDs greatly improve the playability of the game on both systems
@TheArt just a heads up once you play the Prey moon crash DLC you will see where they got the idea for deathloop from its very very similar repeatedly doing runs rogue lite elements to try and escape the moon
@trev666 Oh I see, nice to know.
It’s a 6 from me. The stealth is terrible. The AI is not good. The shooting is serviceable but lacks many weapons. The story is the most interesting part along with Julianna/Colt banter. The different locations and times don’t really add anything. The game became a chore to finish by the end. It’s hard for me to fathom how anyone would give this a 10 with all of its issues.
I love Arkane Studios, they're one of my favorite developers. That being said, while I really enjoy Deathloop, it's nowhere near the perfect 10 score it's received from numerous outlets.
I'd give it an 8. I still prefer the story structure of Dishonored and Prey over Deathloop. However, the voice acting cast in Deathloop is great. Particularly the dialog between Colt and Juliana.
10% of voters chose a review even though they did not play
@LazyLombax I agree with the indie feel, it doesn't feel like a full priced game. It's more of a demo for what they could have made if Sony gave them more time.
@Old-Red I think it was just a fact of them slapping something together for Sony that fit the brief of make it playable for casuals, and they didn't have enough time to make a full game. Your absolutely right tho, there is no way anyone reasonable could give it a 10. That is just absolutely rubbish, is it the first game they have ever played or something. Absolute fan Bois, or absolute shills and taking money from someone to give it a 10. Either camp is very bad for a reviewer to sit in.

@velio84 The role of AI in games is to hold all the other systems together. In Hitman games the AI is complex at a mission level, but really simple at a character level, and the purpose of that is to create a puzzle where you can easily figure out your the individual components work. Hitman's AI does that brilliantly, which is why most people don't criticise it.
In games like Dishonored the Al has a similar role, but is focused on individual characters, relying on the alert system to coordinate a response to the player's actions. That's fine because Dishonored is an action game rather than a puzzle game, and so it's appropriate given the level design.
I can see however that in a game that expects the player to solve levels as a puzzle, but 'go loud' as a primary approach, you need a more robust AI system to hold it all together. I've not played Deathloop yet, but I can see how this could be an issue, especially if they've just used the same AI system as another very different game.
27% say NA - I haven’t played enough on the top.
38% on second poll admit to having not played it.
So 11% scored the game without playing.
Welcome to the Internet.
N/A I haven't played it yet, will be waiting for 50% off sale.
@Stocksy Alternatively: 27% wanted to see the results or are incapable of not voting for some other reason (seriously, there's a results button). Fewer people voted on the second poll (only two thirds), making for a larger percentage who just are incapable of not voting.
Or again alternatively: people who didn't vote on the first poll because they hadn't played, voted on the second and who voted on the first poll because they've played, weren't certain enough of how long they'd played for to vote in the second.
IDK, I voted on neither, because I've not played it as I'm not sure yet if/when I will. Nevertheless, drawing comparison between the two is perilous at best without voting in one requiring a vote in the other. You're looking at two separate polls which were probably responded to by different subsets on the same population, and which likely have different sample biases. The results are perhaps useful on their own, but cannot be meaningfully combined.
At time of comment, 479 people voted that they hadn't played enough in the first poll while 452 people voted that they hadn't played in the second poll. We could assume that in the first poll there were 27 people who were early into the game, and then the same 452 people voted the same in both polls, but there's really no statistical analysis for any conclusions.
