It's been just over a week since the launch of Diablo 4 on PS5 and PS4. Blizzard's latest seems to have really struck a chord with dungeon crawling enthusiasts, immediately racking up enough interest for it to be crowned the company's fastest selling game ever. Safe to say it's been a hit!
But as per usual, it's not the sales figures that intrigue us; it's the review scores. We awarded the action RPG an 'excellent' 9/10 in our Diablo 4 PS5 review, writing: "Diablo 4 is the true successor to the bad old days of action RPGs and oozes quality in its frenetic combat and deep, engaging character development." We heaped praise on its overall tone and superb gameplay feel.
Are you enjoying Diablo 4 as much as we are, though? That's what we're here to find out. So give the game a review score of your own in our poll, and then explain yourself in the comments section below.

Whoever voted 1 is just being ridiculous.
I do wonder if it will become Xbox exclusive eventually.
Edit: I mean the Diablo series not IV specifically.
I voted 9 it’s a really fun game but if you try to do everything it really overstays it’s welcome with the hundreds of mostly mmo from early 2000 filler sidequests and the dungeons are entirely too long. They should have ended with a boss after completing one objective but no you usually have to do two or three before reaching the boss and playing solo it’s just so mind numbing and boring to where I’m running past most enemies.
@__jamiie why would it because unless the CMA change their mind which looks very unlikely that deal is dead as dead gets
I gave it an 8. Despite my numerous complaints about level scaling, gear itemization, online only etc, the fact is I've put in over 30 hours within a week. So 8 it is!
@dark_knightmare2 I just want it to be over now,at which point Sony can reveal, they've bought square and take two 😂
I would say a 9 that could turn into a 10 with future updates.
I gave it a 7 but I think in a couple of years it could be a 9. Far too many issues with the game currently (stash size, limited build variety/viability, itemisation, level scaling etc) and needs more enticing options at endgame. But I do think it's a solid foundation. I hope I would give it a 9 in the future and that the game becomes a regular part of my gaming diet, but for now I had a nice snack and I'm feeding my appetite elsewhere.
I said 7, in reality it is probably an 8. I've hit lvl 75 and now it just feels a bit soulless.. I'm still killing mobs in two hits as I did at lvl 5 just now my world tier is called something cooler.
9/10 Great game but I played so much that I got burnt out super hard once I beat the main story and got into end game realising all it offers is stat buffs on your pre-existing legendary items with a few unique items you can get on world tier 3 that force your builds. I honestly don’t see the point in continuing any further until I have a bit of a break, game was still awesome and worth the extra money I payed for early access because I haven’t no lifed a game so hard since Elden Ring!
9 out of ten. I’m cracked out on it.
I really like the interconnected world design for the players. It’s great fun just walking up on a random event and there are four guys fighting their hearts out against some hard enemies and joining in with them to be the assist.
@dark_knightmare2 you know, it's an ARPG game and it is hard to make quests with different objectives in a game, where killing monsters is 99% of gameplay. But those quest are connected with the lore and the main storyline in some way and provide additional info on everything around, which is nice. Also dungeons are not long at all - with a decent build you can do them in 3-10 minutes, which is ok. But getting to the dungeon can become repetitive in T3-T4, would prefer to start the Dungeon in one click like in D3 or PoE.
@__jamiie
I think IV is here to stay for PS5. The backlash would be immense. They wouldn’t just turn the game off for PlayStation players.
Now the eventual Diablo V? That’s an entirely different discussion. I think it will be exclusive to Xbox and PC when it comes out in 9 years.
@EngFin I think the worst thing about the game is that you can’t save build load outs which is super annoying since you might get a new legendary item for a completely different build. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve changed builds and at this point if costs over 200k gold every time I respec and can take over 20 minutes to do so each time. I also second the stash size, which is ridiculous because you get the one stash shared between all your characters so I have to sell over half my legendaries just to play multiple classes.
I gave it only 9 just because "deaf" locations and unavailablity to turn off unknown players.
@GorosBat it is perplexing how they arrived on such a limited stash size. It really isn't enough, and if you want to play multiple classes it's almost impossible. While I think changing builds shouldn't be absolutely free, it is so cumbersome and difficult to do so in D4 that you either do as you have and waste time and resources, only to potentially want to change back anyway or you just don't get to test out different items and build flavours which kind of negates one of the aspects that makes arpgs fun for so many people. Definitely needs something to make it a bit more friendly to the gamer.
@__jamiie Even if Microsoft do acquire Activision Blizzard, they won’t be able to take Diablo IV away from PlayStation as the game released before any potential deal closes. It’s like when they bought Bethesda, but Sony still got Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo for their respective twelve month exclusivity periods. Diablo V though? That’s a whole other story.
@dark_knightmare2 The deal will go through and there's nothing the CMA will be able to do.
Id give it a solid 7, played about 4 hours and have not been back in a week. Had 3 crashes doing nothing more exciting than walking around
@The_Pixel_King Sorry yeah, I meant the series in general not IV specifically. It wasn't clear.
@OrtadragoonX Apologies. I meant Diablo as a franchise.
@__jamiie Yeah, I thought that’s what you meant, but I figured I’d clear it up just in case. Despite the CMA decision, I think Microsoft will still complete the deal and future games in the series will be Xbox/PC exclusive.
Oh and you’re absolutely right by the way, whoever gave this game a 1 is being absurd. No game deserves a 1/10. And certainly not Diablo IV.
I liked the sidequest where I aided a priestess in Kyovashad with some exorcisms. When I returned to town after a while, she herself had been possessed so I helped with that too and saved the holy lady.
I just finished the story. Took me 63 hours (with plenty of side quests, basements and around 15 dungeons). What i disslike most is (as a frost mage) when i am higher than mobs (top of stairs or a dune) my Frost Shards don't hit them and go over their heads. My build is focused on frost shards.
Other than that game is great and worth the price
I haven't played it nearly enough to give it a real rating yet. I'm loving playing it though, haven't had a chance to overdo it, so I'm always looking to the next time I can play
@__jamiie lol no that is just factually wrong and the CMA already did do something they blocked it. So unless MS leaves the UK which isn’t happening it’s dead and only console warriors think otherwise
@The_Pixel_King but they can’t complete the deal unless the CMA reverses their decision which is looking extremely unlikely
I don't want to give them a positive score while the servers are broken. It's just not acceptable
I have it an 8 because the renown grind sucks. Other than that. Great game
I would say 8 is fair, game looks and plays great but it is packed with filler and I really should have saved the majority of the side content for the post game. The grind to 100 is going to be stupid and Uber Lilith is basically impossible post buff.
What do people think of the story? I've been hearing meh things about it.
@Nepp67 I thought it was the best Diablo story I’ve played (2,3 and 4). I found the main villain interesting and the supporting cast good as well. Overall I found it to keep my interest the whole way through with some slight dragging it out in Act 5.
@__jamiie There was 11 years between Diablo 3 and 4 and this time they’re fully doing the whole Live Service thing. Diablo 5 wouldn’t even be out nextgen maybe.
I'd give it a 8 for now, and I may change it to 9 or more if it'll get better in time.
It's a good game, no doubt, a lot of stuff offered at launch.
There are however a number of important downsides to it.
To avoid writing a novel on this subject, here's just an example (but certainly not the only one) : legendary items lack depth and get boring after a while.
On Tier 3 and Tier 4, you get 1-3 of them per dungeon made, which is, let's say... an ok drop rate.
But the aspects lack variety.. there are... what... about 20-30 of them that are different for a class, and a few that are general, for any class?
They start to repeat quite often, so they're not special anymore, they become useless for your build or in general, and you end up destroying them, like any ordinary junk.
Why? Because:
They could have made sets out of them for example, giving you new stats if you equipped 2-3-4 items in the same set, and even more for the complete gear.
Again this is just an example, there are quite a few others (useless white and magic items beyond breaking them // lack of runes and runewords, which are sorely missed // lack of set items // no depth to gems beyond their few stats // gems clutter inventory very quickly, especially on Tier 3 and 4 when they drop on all varieties, they sorely need their own tab... etc etc).
BUT .... Diablo IV just launched.
Diablo II (the original) didn't hit it's stride until the patches 1.09 and 1.10 + the LOD expansion. The quality the current Diablo II Resurrected has today is actually based on years of improvements made to the original.
Diablo III was a disaster at launch (remember the real money auction house?). It didn't improve significantly until years later, and a ton of backlash, after a new team got the reigns of the game and released a lot of patches and the expansion.
Path of Exile didn't have the quality it has today on launch day, but it got much better after years of constant improvements, addons and dedication of it's talented dev team.
Overall balance doesn't happen over night in those games, that's a given, they are very complex behind the screen, it's very hard to nail everything down on first release.
But I hope the Diablo IV devs will bring inspired and good quality patches and improvements to it in the coming months and 1-2 years, so we can enjoy it later on as much as we do the previous games today.
@__jamiie naa to big of a game to make exclusive massive loss to user base, sales, and over good will loss to the Xbox brand
I'm not really sure what is going on, but I can hardly play this game without it freezing and crashing every 30 minutes or so. For that reason, I'd have to report my experience as a 5.
Other factors are that I'm around level 45, but still not really loving the gameplay loop. Gear and level feel cosmetic only and don't seem to have much impact on the actual gameplay. From level 1 to 45, the game's challenge has been consistent despite content.
@dark_knightmare2 They can’t complete here in the UK, but the CMA can’t stop one American company from buying another American company. At least that’s my understanding. It would mean Microsoft would have to jump over various hurdles, such as not offering ABK titles on Game Pass in the UK, for example, but from what I’ve heard, the deal certainly isn’t dead yet.
And just for info, I’m a PlayStation (and Nintendo) fan who owns an Xbox for games like Forza and Starfield, etc that are exclusive to that platform. I genuinely don’t care if they do the deal or not. I’m just looking at it from a purely neutral perspective.
@dark_knightmare2 There are plenty of things Microsoft can do to get around the CMA decision. An independent UK regulator is not going to stop this from happening. The CMA has even been grilled by the UK government saying that its decision was a bad one.
It'a six for me.
In terms of pure gameplay I find it massively lacking.
What pulls it up to a six is the amazing atmosphere and visuals
Solid 7.5 for me or pushing 9 in co op. The Guardian review nailed it with it's junk food analogy.
Never played a Diablo game but I’m intrigued by D4 so might give it a try. Is it a game you’ll first have to invest a lot of time in developing your character before it gets fun or are you in the midst of the action immediately?
It wasn't for me. Well-produced but I was bored to tears after a few hours. I didn't care about what was happening, combat was monotonous, loot was boring. Glad others are enjoying it though.
@__jamiie please enlighten how they can get around the CMA besides leaving the UK which is not going to happen I’m all ears
@The_Pixel_King I understand but they would have to completely close up shop in the UK and that’s MS as a whole not just Xbox and that def isn’t happening. The deal isn’t completely dead but there’s like a one percent chance of the CMA overturning it so it most likely is
@dark_knightmare2 Minsters can overrule the decision as bad for the UK economy. The CMA do not make the law. Microsoft can restructure their UK operations to bypass the CMA ruling. Microsoft could block cloud gaming via UK servers to negate the CMA ruling.
And in your response to another post about it being a 1% chance of being overturned, approximately 33% of CMA rulings are overturned within 6 months of their initial ruling.
@dark_knightmare2 this is exactly why I got bored with 3 on PS4. I’m not a multiplayer/online gamer so it really got boring after a bit and so I avoided 4. I guess it’s just not for me and that’s okay.
@__jamiie no 33 percent is CAT ruling where it goes back to the CMA and the make the same decision 9 out of 10 times. You examples are pipe dreams MS isn’t going to do any of that so what most likely happens is the deal dies and everybody moves on which is for the best
I gave 8, the initial excitement is gone, i got a bit bored after i got all skills at level 30-something, now at lvl 45 and trying to finish it as soon as possible so i can start with other characters on harder difficulty because it seems too easy on veteran
@__jamiie I dont think so.. MS will know how many it sold on each platform and im guessing Playstation sales are up there with PC and both way ahead of xbox..
@Fill3rup_ I get what you're saying but then I don't understand why everyone is so concerned with Xbox buying studios if they believe that they won't move any franchises away from PlayStation.
@__jamiie irs certain games people concieve that they would take, but in fairness,i cant see COD or elder scrolls,Doom,Wolfenstein etc going exclusive.. it could happen but it makes no sense financially
@__jamiie i am a Huge Diablo fan, it’s in my top 5 franchise all time. So Diablo 4 is my game of the generation. Unless rockstar gives us something for Red Dead which I doubt, i love Xbox, have since day one with the OG, i am honest on this site as a avid PS fan since the PS1, i normally just don’t buy and play much 3rd party games on PS due to not liking the controllers as much as Xbox’s. But i want to be clear about the ABK deal, yes i support the deal, but in NO way do i want to see big established franchise taken away from PS. I would lose a lot of respect if somehow Diablo 5 was PC/Xbox exclusive. Take a look at the launch of Diablo 4, it was huge and successful and PS gamers were a big big part of that. The franchise has always been on PS and it should continue to be. New Blizzard IP’s exclusive to Xbox and PC, thats fine with me. But not big successful franchises like diablo that PS gamers were accustomed to getting. I do not think that will happen and in fact Diablo 4 being cross play is the best thing ever and just allows all of us to play. I have Diablo 4 on Series X and my best buddy has it on PS5 and we play Co-op all the time together and it works flawlessly. I want to continue to see that. Sorry for the long explanation but i am passionate about competition in the console space and i know both Sony and MS money hat games to their platforms. But i do not want to see older franchise’s go away from player bases, and MS has said they want to take each game on a case by case bases. I support that for now. Diablo for all 😊
8/10
It's annoying to have to look at every yellow item you pick up to find a 50 dps or armor increase and make sure the secondaries don't brick your build and then pay 6 legendary crafting materials to swap the affix over and keep track of all the affixes in your stash so you aren't scraping one you need.
I gave it a 7, the world is static, there is nothing amazing about it. Oh it looks nice, but while wandering you never see the unexpected, like a huge skull half buried in the sand, and further on the hand or what have you. The towns are super boring, its the same thing over and over, with some places missing the necessities you need, forcing you to instantly warp to a town that does. then warp back. There is no difference in any town that makes it stand out. like a town that sells legendary rocks, or one that caters to sorcerers only or barbarians. they are all the same with different layouts. Being online only is another gripe, fighting a boss and having it almost defeated only to have a server go down and the fight reset is such an annoying feeling. I dont feel super powerful either, as the game levels with you, why even level up then? make it like terraria and just find gear to get to harder areas. Thats basically what endgame reverts to.
My opinion.
I gave it a 6. Game was a 10 for about 12 hours split over two days, then it crashed to a 6 when I was already burned out and everything started seeming super repetitive.
