Hogwarts Legacy has been out on PS5 for about a week now, and so the time has come share your thoughts on this open world adventure. It's fair to say that this was a highly anticipated release, and by the looks of it, the game is already a commercial success.
The critical reception has been pretty good as well. Hogwarts Legacy was met with some very positive reviews, with most praising its recreation of the titular castle, and its flashy combat system.
We gave it a 'great' 8/10 in our Hogwarts Legacy PS5 review, heaping praise on the project in its conclusion: "Almost 26 years after Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone hit bookshelves, video game fans finally have a magical title to be proud of. It's everything we’ve dreamt of."
But what review score would you give Hogwarts Legacy? Have your say in our poll, and then explain yourself in the comments section below.

I love the atmosphere of the game. I give it an 8. The quest structure can be very fetch-quest style, which is a bummer, but still a very good game overall. I'm only 18 hours in too, so I've got a bit still to do.
**Hogwarts Legacy** is simply brilliant, an easy 10/10! This is a game bursting with detail and atmosphere, which looks great and plays great. A true pleasure that I will be playing for a very long time.
Those voting for Abysmal must work for Wired.
The only let down for me are the facial animations. They feel very PS4. So many games from Spiderman to Valhalla to Horizon nailed it on a whole other level. That aside, superb. A magically realised world.
Really loving it so far. Not going to rate until I am done with it but I am leaning toward a 9. The one thing I really dislike is the fog constantly used in the open world. I assume it is to hide graphical imperfections but it really takes away from the experience at times
I've only just started this so I can't really rate it yet but I will say the atmosphere so far is well above a lot of open world games I've played and the combat has been fun. It's early days but I'm very impressed
Haven't played it yet myself but watched a few streams and from what I've seen I'd say the atmosphere is pretty amazing, everything feels so alive and there are so much details put everywhere. Cutscenes are also done pretty well, for example when getting the wand
As a game though it seems very basic, characters look like robots during dialogs, same puzzles copy&pasted everywhere etc.
So far it seems like a 7/10 to me but that might change when I actually play it for myself
I’m about 15 hours in so far. It’s good, but not quite GOTY material yet, though with more hours under my belt that could change. I’ve got my own broom (not the easiest things to control 🙄), though haven’t unlocked mounts yet. The “beasts class” is my next quest.
Gave it a 9. Great game but a little generic. But the fact I still enjoy it despite that is a testament to the feel of the combat and the depth and liveliness of the world. Everything is a joy. Every bit worth the pre order. Every bit worth the money. I’d recommend anyone on the fence to simply go buy it now. You won’t regret it.
As a fan of the source material nothing less than a 10/10 it's an exceptional game in it's own right but the way it nails the IP it's based on really elevates the game to even greater heights for me ^__^
7 or 8/10 for me once the wonderment of the IP, setting and mechanics wears off the game's formulaic open world design tropes begin to do what all of these games do after about 20-30 hrs.... become a boring slog of overly repetitive randomized loot, icon and collectible chasing only furthered by a fairly boring story and robotic characters and systems not fully fleshed out or used in the core game.
The art design is strong enough to compel one to get through it, but its undeniable that they open world garbage they borrowed from recent AC titles gets as stale as they are in those titles.
10/10, and I know it’s not perfect, it has some issues here and there but I’m unapologetically biased, no other game has made me cry from nostalgia and this did it several times, loved every second of it.
10’s across the board!
It’s brilliant. Just when you think you’ve seen everything, the game gives you something new to do.
It is an easy 9 from me. There are some bugs to fix, such as the one Field Guide page I have left in Hogwarts that is clearly bugged as it is completely gone or didn't count when collected. I've looked it up and apparently a lot of people have a similar issue. Other than that, what they have accomplished here is nothing short of breathtaking and they deserve every bit of praise they get. I was surprised at just how fun and satisfying the combat is ...and the whole beast collecting and base building aspects were shockingly in- depth.
The game has so much content and attention to detail it is still blowing me away after dozens of hours ...So, whatever ...With this many collectibles, a single page (not even a main Revelio one, mind you) not being counted correctly or being bugged is totally fine, as long as it can be patched soon enough without having to restart the entire game for that clean 100%. That the game even was as polished as it was on release speaks volumes at how much love was poured into the game, and tells me just how much money Warner Bros. were willing to splurge on a truly prestigous flagship ...with no shady monetisation either!
The one issue I do have is that it might have a bit too much content for someone with a perfectionist mindset like me ...It gets a bit tiring with all those pages, especially ...and that you have to cast the Assassin's Creed- esque scanning spell every ten seconds to make sure you get every moldy piece of clothing in a spider- infested cave ...which becomes quite annoying.
I feel like I'm still way early in even tho I've put about 20ish hours. But so far probably an 8. The story so far is pretty generic. There aren't a lot of meaningful characters and the ones that are there are hit or miss. And I'm just not a fan of how western devs at times like to slow you to a crawl and position the camera at certain angles to make it "cinematic" especially when you enter small rooms like shops. Just be like elden ring man, you enter any room and it'll let you run around to your hearts content. Jumping on tables and everything. I don't want to be forced to walk when I don't need to
With that said, there's still a really great game in there. The whole map is just very fun to explore. The fan service is top notch. Combat is extremely addictive giving you plenty of cool spells to use not just in combat but outside of it. Flying around with the broom feels fantastic. There's plenty of customization. Not my favorite open world but still a damn good one
I went in expecting a 7 out of 10 kinda game. It has really blown me away. I would go with a 9 as of now. I honestly haven't smiled this much playing a game in awhile. It's just fun to play.
Loving seeing the user comments "Atmosphere, world design, depth and attention to detail" all have me really excited to get this soon.
I know it won't have the writing quality and quest design of The Witcher 3, but it sounds like it's been adapted with the same kind love as CDPR had for the actual source material and world. Which is very important for adapting and creating anything with others IPs. Same as Insomniac and Rocksteady to name a few. So it's sounding like the studio definitely deserves a chunk of recognition for this!
Can't wait to try it out 🪄
I think it’s probably an 8/10 game elevated to 9/10 because I love the world
We all know why that 6% gave it a 1/10 and we know they didn't play the game.
Giving it a solid 8! The atmosphere and world is incredible as is the attention to detail, but what brings it down for me, is the incredibly clunky movement, one min your sprinting then its just a dead stop for no reason, camera movement is also a bit janky, so its not perfect, but its a great game despite those little flaws.
I think its an 8. While everything looks great, there are still some quirks on the way they optimized the game. Culling is very noticable when the camera glitches on the doors, loading times on doors NEED to be gone in future updates, there are many animation issues (just try using a stair pushing and releasing the stick).
And some quests are just repeated missions with different assets.
But the atmosphere, graphics, attention to detail, music and combat are amazing
9/10. It’s honestly one of the most fun games I’ve played in a long time, really detailed and well-done open world too. The characters are all likable and the game goes a long way to make you feel like “you’re there” in the wizarding world. I like the voice acting, though I know some don’t, and the story is solid, even if I’m not yet convinced on Ranrok on being a classic villain. And, yes, there’s some archaic quest design, but they wrap it up in enough charm where it doesn’t really matter so much. And with that archaic quest design, is it really anything more archaic than what we found in HFW, for example? I think not.
I’m honestly loving the title though. It’s the first GoTY candidate for me this year. Most of what I could critique are things I’d add in a sequel, like a morality system, more player agency for your character’s personality, etc. Splash just a bit of Mass Effect on the game and we could very well get a 10/10 tier title.
@AdamNovice
Hahahaha well said.
I haven't finished it yet but I'm leaning towards a 9. Really love the game so far! My only real criticisms would be I think the gear system could have been better and I do wish there was some sort of reaction to using unforgivable curses but other than that? Brilliant game. Does for Harry Potter what Arkham Asylum did for Batman.
I’m going with a 7 as it’s a great game with fun combat but loses some magic as you explore further outside Hogwarts and realise how repetitive the side activities slowly get. The side missions are diverting enough but lack the richness of HFW or The Witcher 3 and even Merlin himself must have known that nobody needs nearly 100 trials despite cultivating a small Mallowsweet farm in their Room of Requirement. The slow drip feed of abilities and features is a definite bonus but nearing the endgame results in a somewhat tiresome collectathon plus all my magical beasts were left to their own devices after a quick rutting in order to pick up another trophy.
Story wise it also suffers from somewhat dated RPG “four trials” format whilst none of the characters really make an impact (Ranrok just feels like a generic evil goblin by way of Peaky Blinders whilst Rookwood ends up with nothing more than an intriguing intro only to disappear and pop up again in time for a sadly anticlimactic last hurrah) The voice cast didn’t grate as much as I thought though the protagonist is stiffer than a horny Hogwart student after an unexpected Petrificus Totalis accident in the trouser region! And dear old Simon Pegg delights at first only to disappear and end up another wasted opportunity.
But despite all that the game is still a damn fun ride and it’s sad that players enjoyment of a game has been so harshly affected by all the controversy surrounding the release. At the end of the day it’s a fun and frivolous title I don’t regret playing despite it being far from the flawless magical adventure it could have been.
So yeah, a solid 7. That’ll do x
Deffo 7.5/8 fore. Really solid game. Great starting experience. Quests are decent enough. I do have a few gripes with it though;
I feel the Devs possibly had more planned for the world. Certain things have no consequence (curses/roaming at night) bar a few select quests and lines of dialogue. Perhaps more was planned but UX wasn't as good. I think more around being in the school would of been cool. Going to classes. Some kind of structure. It almost just feels like the world is there as your playground. The fact we can turn up to class in full suit of armour while everyone else is in uniform feels a bit silly. But I get that it's a game and not the books. Overall Hogwarts castle is amazing. The best part of the game by far. Would love for more of the little hidden things like the frog that swallows you.
Not buying the game - and thus won't vote here - but as a casual observer the game feels and looks like an "8/10." It seems to have finally accomplished much of what the franchise could actually live up to as a game, unlike just about every other attempt. I can't see it making many new HP fans, but I can definitely see it as the ultimate game for fans. I think I've just had enough of all the Harry Potter stuff. If only we could get some proper Earthsea material 🧙

I gave it a 7 and that's not a bad thing. The environments, details, and atmosphere are top notch, but I'm not a fan of the story, acting, collection quests, or combat.
I speed through dialogue and enjoy the exploration. I will definitely not be 100% the game as the icons of everything available are overwhelming.
Again, not a bad score, just a personal one. I don't regret buying it, and will put hours into it, but more of an experience for me rather than a game.
8 from me. I'm not too keen on the menu system and the speech is a bit irritating but i love everything else about this game.
@SAMTYLER1974 "it’s sad that players enjoyment of a game has been so harshly affected by all the controversy surrounding the release." Looking at the sales figures and how well its doing in its first week i'd say nobodys enjoyment has been harmed at all. It would appear those voices shouting the loudest are falling on deaf ears..enjoy the game as we all are 👍
If I was never into Harry Potter would I like this? The game looks pretty.
10/10 from me.
The attention to detail is fantastic, and there is clearly a love of the source material.
i am about 35 hours in.
I have (i think) two quests left to go in order to finish the story - but still feel like I have barely scratched the surface of this game.
And once i finish it, I am pretty sure the only thing I will do is start again.
Easy 9, in some places it's probably even a 10. I think they have nailed the attention to detail and it genuinely feels like you are in an alive world. I'm not even a potter fan, but I think with this game you don't need to be.
@Snackfood This could have been written by me. To my surprise, the story or characters are not catching me at all. The more I played of the story, the less I was invested. Not the hugest fan of the UI either. But the exploration and the attention to detail and how they designed and crafted this world is all the more stunning. Just taking the atmosphere and the world in is what I love most about this game. However, if I had to give it a score, it would rather be an 8.
@ILikeStake i didnt like harry potter but i went into this game because it just looked like it was going to be a great, fun game to balance out all the shooters and horror type games i have..give it a go mate as i'm sure you will enjoy it.
Far from finished and have some minor issues but based on what i've played its easily a 9/10 so far. Its easily the best HP game and i can easily see it being a GOTY contender for me.
I wish there were slightly more references to the movies universe. However, the plot takes way before Harry's time, so it's understandable. I love the world, and atmosphere is brilliant. The enemies are a bit on a weak side, so and the world further than the main areas. It's amazing game tho. Really enjoying it and for now it's easily my game of the year.
@AdamNovice That "review" was laughable and i really don't think the writer even played it considering how much they got wrong or BS about in the "review".
@AdamNovice Those 1/10 are just trying to cope with the game's monstrous success. I understand that some people might not find the game as fun as others, but 1/10? This is not Ride to Hell: Retribution.
Going to buy this for my daughter's birthday soon... Looks great and I'm sure she'll love it ... Shame that pushsquare don't support women or their rights though .... "views and opinions held by the creator of the Harry Potter universe – views and opinions which we do not agree with."
after taking my time and getting to the 15 hour mark it's a 9/10 so far. Enjoying the story and the world!
@AdamNovice I think Wired should be remnamed to Triggered haha
10/10. Good game well played.
This game made me watch all Harry Potter movies.
Beautiful world by JK Rowling.

41 hours in & I really do love this game so much, never dull, just when I think I might be getting ever so slightly bored it pulls summat outta the hat that totally wows me all over again!! My only bugbear is the dialogue, it's so namby pamby & polite, I'm British born & bred but the public schoolboy(that's what posh private school students are called here in the UK) overtures annoy me. But that's one of the things that the Potter films are known for(& bugged me about em) and tbh I knew what I was signing up for!!😢🤣
Still a really wonderful game in spite of it!!
9.3 outta 10 so far from me!😁
You're allowed to give it an extra point because you love the world and source material. 9.
Unfortunely haven't had the time to play it a lot. What i have played so far was great though.
I give it a 9, I've never been into Harry Potter at all ( Thought it was for kids when it first came out) but I'm really loving HL. It's just so much fun to play and the world is amazing. I like it that much, I wanna watch the HP films when I'm finished with the game.

8/10. I was expecting it to be good, but not this good. Only thing that really lets it down is a few technical issues and the overwhelming amount of filler all over the map. 95 Merlin Trials? I mean, c’mon!
10/10 GOTY an absolute stunner
Giving it more than an 8 would be a stretch for me. It’s far too similar to Ubisoft’s open world games, from fetch quests and filler content to mini-games. The combat can be challenging, which I like, but the puzzles not so much. Moreover, most of the dialogue seems to be written for a five year old.
But despite all that my overall impression was good, I had a lot of fun playing it.
@Snackfood ive heard and seen turning off 2 settings mini map and hud. Makes the game more immerse without the overwhelming quests and icons.
N/A. I pre-ordered the game but haven't gotten around to playing yet. Waiting for it to be fully patched and all free updates released.
Game 9/10
Fact my wife keeps coming over and watch me play... 10/10 😊
10/10 would JK Rowling again.
Right now I'm somewhere between a 7 and an 8 leaning towards an 8. Hogwarts suffers from a lot of same issues that HFW did. That being yet another safe, by the numbers, check box open world game. Call me a hypocrite, but where I think Hogwarts succeeds where Horizon didn't is its ability to still surprise you. Hogwarts has consistently had new things to show, introducing new mechanics pretty late into the game actually. Hogwarts does a good job of holding its cards close to its chest while making smart decisions like introducing flying fairly early on. Something I think Horizon could have benefited from. (Waiting right up until the end credits to introduce such a crucial mechanic did that game no favors if you ask me) But at the end of the day I think Hogwarts Legacy is yet another fairly safe open world game that is however elevated by its absolutely fantastic world and setting. This is just as good of a Harry Potter game as Jedi Fallen Order was a Star Wars game. Not a masterpiece, but still pretty damn good.
no game is ever a 10 imo. every game has it's share of bugs or things that can be changed to make the play experience better. although not much of a fan of HP, I picked this up and it's pretty great. a 9 for me no question. i don't play it like a HP game, but like a 3rd person spell casting wizard adventure game.
glad i got this one.
definite recommend.
It’s a 7 out of ten game. Elevated to 8 because of the story and music. Elevated to a 9 because of the amazing world JK Rowling created and a 10 because of the the silly narrative that the gaming media have tried to force on the game.
Genuinely haven’t smiled and enjoyed a game this much in years. We need a Star Wars game this good. As in open world that feels this loved.
It has come to my attention that the developers hate Ravenclaw. Why else would they force users to go to the owlery, instead of say a trip to Azkaban like Hufflepuffs. It's a 7 for me, especially with no Quidditch, or say DLC on the horizon. Quidditch World Cup missed opportunity. I would love to see a dlc, or a sequel take us to Nattys school where she learned wand-less magic.
Most wanted DLC / Sequel ideas
1. Quidditch, possibly leading to the World Cup
2. Another school, or entire new area.
3. Underwater quest lines
4. CHAMBER OF SECRETS
5. Deathly Hallows
