Blue Prince, launching straight into PS Plus Extra later this week, has just received its first batch of reviews, and it's not only the highest rated game of 2025 so far, it's among the best-scoring puzzle games full stop.
With a Metacritic average of 93 at the time of writing, this intriguing first-person puzzle adventure is glowing with praise from all sides. We've gathered a handful of quotes and scores from other outlets to give you an idea of what critics are saying.
As for Push Square's review of the game, it's on the way, so keep your eyes peeled. In the meantime, here's the consensus on Blue Prince.
Eurogamer - 5/5
More than anything, Blue Prince seems aware of the time you're spending within it, and that's pure magic to me. The richest aspect of the game's extremely rich design may be how many secrets it springs once you’ve lived with it for a while. It's the pleasure of finding hidden aspects to things you thought you understood in full, the pleasure of coming back to something you thought was simple and finding that it's not simple at all.
TheGamer - 4.5/5
Blue Prince defies genre, and it defies the gamer instinct to min-max. It is contemplative, a journey that can’t be rushed, though you might be tempted to try. It will delight you, thrill you, and probably make you run crying to the internet for answers you can’t seem to tease out on your own. I’ve never played anything like it, but I won’t be surprised if we see more takes on the roguelike puzzler in the future because of it.
PC Gamer - 92
I love Blue Prince so much I'm going to spend the next 1,500 words or so telling you as little about it as possible. Unraveling its many mysteries and solving its multitude of puzzles—several of which I'm still working on even after finishing the game—is best done if you go in with nearly no information. Don't watch videos. Don't Google solutions. Don't even finish reading this review. Just go play it.
GameSpot - 9/10
Blue Prince is one of the most memorable video game experiences I have ever had. It is at once accessible and impenetrable, frustrating and euphoric. Like each of my dozens of permutations of the Mount Holly manor house itself, it is truly one of a kind.
GamesRadar+ - 4/5
Blue Prince feels truly unique in how it takes a simple premise and fills it with multiple threads of mystery to pull at. This exploration roguelike is like nothing else I've played, and became a puzzle obsession I just couldn't shake across multiple runs where I always felt like I was discovering something new. Even after credits, the mysteries of Mt. Holly continue to surprise me.
Vice - Unscored
Blue Prince is, hands down, one of the best games I’ve ever played. And that’s indie or AAA. It’s a triumph in environmental storytelling, as well as game and puzzle design. It’s a game that you need to play. The only thing it asks of you is to truly engage with its world. I still can’t say enough about what Tonda Ros and his team have put together. There is nothing like this game. Blue Prince should be front and center in contention for 2025’s Game of the Year award.

That great news, I’ve been looking forward to this one. My wife doesn’t do a ton of gaming but this one is definitely her style, even if I don’t like it, I’m sure she’ll love it.
I’m not really into puzzle games, but as it’s on PS+ extra I may as well give it a go.
I haven't played any puzzle games but this might change that. The art style alone looks like it's gotten some real love from the Devs.
One of my most anticipated games of the year and currently the highest rated game of the year. Brilliant.
It's on BOTH PS+ Extra and Game Pass Day 1. The only other game I can think of that did that was Sea of Stars.
Haven't played a puzzle game since Professor Layton, might as well give it a go if it's on PS+.
Hrmm, I'm getting The Witness vibes from those excerpts. And I loved The Witness. Will have to check this out.
Wow, count me in!!!
I love a good puzzle game, so glad this is reviewing well, can't wait to dive in.
Sounds really good, been a long time since I played a good puzzler. Even better that it's on Playstation Plus 😊.
It’s also the highest rated game of the year across all genres so far. They’ll have lots of console players with it being on both PS Plus Extra and GamePass.
Cannot wait to play this! This is in my top 3 most anticipated games this month. Now it may have taken the number two spot (with Expedition 33 in first). So looking forward to this...

@EfYI Wow fanboyism, so last decade.
@Jrs1
Ppffffff, my humour is easily three decades old and thus VERY refined.
@EfYI I actually can't tell if this is satire. If it isn't then, well, I feel sorry for you.
As for the game in question; never heard of it before, but I'm always up for a new, transformative experience, and at no extra cost! Can't wait to tuck in.
Oh wait up... do you remember when we had a poll of favorite games from February State of Play and only 0.5% picked Blue Prince? Pepperidge Farms remembers!

Great looking game landing on GP and PS+ day 1 its a win for all gamers. With its board game tile look for the rooms this is the game that really stood out for me at the original showcase when it was revealled.
@Perturbator I was one of those elite 0.5% ers.
Well this is going straight on the wishlist. I have to admit I had never heard of this before it was mentioned on the latest Friends Per Second podcast, but the way they talked about it instantly grabbed my attention. Judging by the general reception, this could end up in that Outer Wilds category of unforgettable, unique experiences.
The camera seems to move like doom and Wolfenstein. I get motion illness, but not in all games. Not in counterstrike and cyberpunk for example, but the old Wolfenstein is actually only game I had to throw up, but I was around 11 years old.
I will check a playthrough first of a couple of minute before I buy it as I am a big puzzle fan. I stopped with The Witness due to motion illness too.
It's too woke for me, get DIY out of my games! haha.
says 92 for pc and 88 for xbox when i checked
I'm confused - can I not actually buy this game as a standalone title? Do I have to have PS Plus Extra (which I don't) to get it?
