To the pleasant surprise of many, Sony announced it would be hosting another State of Play presentation just a month after its big PlayStation Showcase blowout. While the show was confirmed to be focusing on third-party developers, we were still promised new game reveals and updates for ones we already know about.
In terms of new titles, the 20-minute presser announced Star Ocean: The Divine Force and Death's Door from developer Acid Nerve. We then received a significant update on Little Devil Inside.
It could be considered a short but sweet showcase, although we want to know what you thought of the show. Were you happy with what Sony showed or are you feeling a little disappointed? Either way, place your vote in our poll and expand on your thoughts in the comments below.

Not really... that We Are OFK rubbish was the definite lowpoint among a slew of otherwise uninteresting-looking titles. I think the crowd that would care for OFK and the crowd that owns a PS5 does not overlap.
Also, PS Plus title First Class Trouble is so obviously an early access game trying to ride Among Us' coattails, it's a bit embarrassing.
Free Bugsnax DLC was the highlight.
Well
That was .....
Didn't expect much and it was still underwhelming.
Good just because of Bugsnax and Little Devil Inside
no plus games anpuncements yet though.
altough that 1 game confirmed the leak is true lol.
I'm sure no one expected a huge show but so often we get the same complaints.
I tuned in late, about 10 minutes ago and it was like 4 youtubers chatting. What the heck? I think I got IGN actually. So what was announced?
Personally, no. It wasn't bad, but there wasn't much for me. The only things that interested me was "Update To Pre-Existing Game McGee" (Bugsnax), "former Xbox exclusive" (Death's Door), and Little Devil Inside, which looks great, but still no release date.
It was f'ing diabolical!
If you tempered expectations like me I'd imagine many would be pleasantly surprised. Bugsnax free dlc for those who enjoyed it. New Star ocean game yes!!!! Death's Door releasing next month is an instant download for me and Little Devil inside is looking gorgeous, can't wait for it.
Weakest presentation so far. At least there's Star Ocean and Little Devil inside to look forward to. Still no release date tho.
Sony fans being mad at mediocre Livestream.
Me, a Nintendo fan:
It was underwhelming even with low expectations but hey KOFXV open beta! The new Star ocean looks terrible, is this online multiplayer?
kof beta and new star ocean was the only interesting thing about this.
the rest was just....what even was that.
The Star Ocean reveal is interesting. And while Little Devil Inside does nothing for me, it looks decent enough.
Rest of this presentation, though... yikes. Probably should have slapped a few announcements up on social media and called it a day.
I am excited that Death's Door is being released for my favorite console. Other than that, not much for me.
Sony needs to stop announcing these so far in advance. I feel like this might have gone down a little better if the announced it yesterday.
Star Ocean looked pretty dope though.
@tehKAMI Perfect summary. Close to zero expectations and I still left disappointed.
If nothing else, I expected to be entertained watching 20mins of games. Waste of time, though.
That was hot garbage.
Didn’t expect much since it was 3rd party stuff. But didn’t expect it to be quite that bad, seriously they waste some of their marketing budget advertising games that most people wouldn’t even want or consider playing.
Lol my expectations were low, but that was genuinely a waste of 20 minutes. Star Ocean was a pleasant surprise, but looks very rough in its current state; and Little Devil Inside looks wonderful - but you have to ask why Sony bothered tonight. Could have just dropped those trailers on YouTube or made some blog posts.
Also bet some of you are wishing that there was a deathloop trailer now eh 😆
Happy about bugsnax, else is just bad. At least could have showed some gameplay of GTA definitive games.
Thank the lord for first party developers.
WTF was that OFK nonsense
Little Devil Inside looks brilliant.
We Are OFK made me want to scoop out my eyes and tear off my ears.
It was a 20 minute show and had Star Ocean, Deaths Door and Little Devil Inside. Some of you are so cynical.
More Bugsnax, Deaths Door and Little Devil inside!
I did not enjoy that.
Some games looked very janky - First Class Trouble and Star Ocean.
I was hoping for a full PS Plus announcement and hoping there would be something exciting in there- a mention of the PSVR games. But no.
I've been watching Halloween 5 instead, seems I didn't miss anything
Blog post would have been better for all of these games. No need for a state of play.
When they said a 20 minute State of Play with third party announcements I had expectations incredibly low and I got just what I expected. So many years of Nintendo Directs have led to me going into these kind of streams with low expectations. That being said, Little Devil Inside looked nice.
Yeah, easily the crappiest SoP ever and my expectations were super low.
I have no idea what people were expecting.
A new Let it Die sounds cool. I am cautiously hopeful for a new Star Ocean. And Death's Door is great. Little Devil Inside also looks great.
Shocking. I don't know why this State of Play even existed. All of those games and updates could have been blog posts.
i'm sorry but, what the hell was that?! lol, they're not even trying anymore smh
Well they did warn everyone that it wasn't going to bring out the big guns. Feel like more couldve been added tho
The vast majority of the games were children's games that could be run on Switch. Hardly a persuasive way to sell a $500 system. Sony has increasingly decided to focus on Nintendo's target market (children) but they will never beat Nintendo at their own game. What's worse, they are following in Atari's footsteps by allowing literally anyone to publish a game for their system. This is what drove Atari out of business. Back then we called those games trash, today we call them "indy" games. Sony needs to get back to what made it successful in the first place, high quality games targeting an older audience. Quality over quantity.
Only thing that was interesting is Little Devil Inside...and no date...
The rest pure crap, and I don't understand why they're advertising an Among Us style game if they're giving away another in November's plus games.
Too many similar online focused games these days.
Waste of 20.
PS3 games.
Forgotten about it already.
Whole thing was trash besides Deaths Door and Little Devil Inside, and where's the rest of the Plus lineup?
Deaths Door and Little Devil inside were the highlights for me ...
Star ocean & KoF fans would've enjoyed the announcements too
That was mostly woeful. Definitely recommend Death's Door though. General combat is a bit one dimensional but the world design and boss fights are great. Absolutely worth a buy.
Why did this state of play need to happen? It was tragic lol. Easily one of the worst presentations I've seen.
Usually I watch these on my phone, but today I watched it on the big screen- so I can’t help but be disappointed. I kind of expected FFXVI. Didn’t think we would get first party games here.
They really should’ve called this State of Play: Indie Showcase. That what it felt like.
The music for Star ocean felt like straight out of FFXV, so I thought that was a weird spin off. Apart from that can’t say any games really interested me.
Should’ve set expectations better.
LOL what was that?
I could have dusted my ps5 in those 20 minutes and find more enjoyment of it.
I'm sorry but that was complete trash 🗑️. Smh I had no expectations and even with that in mind I was Soo disappointed .
@Golem25 we are OFK was some of the cringiest things I've seen in a while. Like why was that greenlit? Its probably gonna be a plus game.
@GorosBat
Star Ocean looks like a remastered PS3 game
@HotGoomba
Thank you for saving this State of Play for me. 👍
Your comment is the best part of this event.
🤣
Would it have killed Sony to say it was a indie presentation!? Third party implies bigger studios as well. But even then, I get excited for Indies when good but there was nothing here!
That State of Play should have been a blog post.
I usually enjoy these, but this one was by far the worse SoP that Sony has put out. Not even a release date for Little Devil Inside?! I mean...ugh.
Also that Star Ocean looks like a PS3 game apart from some level design, they really need to pull a "Tales of" and do an overhaul on the series.
Sid should've said that this would be majorly about some indies and that it was focused on Little Devil. It would've set the expectations on par. "Third party games" is way too vague.
I'm sure the people who complained about the lack of indie and AA stuff in previous State of Plays will be happy.
I thought there was a nice variety of games on show there, but just Little Devil Inside for me.
Was hoping to see Stray, and at a stretch FF XVI, but I guess it wasn't that kind of show.
Ah well. Back to Demon's Souls.
It was alright to be honest
Oof. Literally nothing in there was of interest to me...
Genuinely, nothing would be better.
Sony should just scrap the whole state of ***** events. Best thing to do is not build hopes up and it's not as disappointing then.
Security breach is in there and that is all I need. Can’t wait to know the rest of the story soon!!!!
December 16TH ofc
Was that it?
I feel like that was a prank….
The fact is if this was for Nintendo or Xbox then it would be praised. But because its for playstation and expectations were and always are high then obviously everyone was let down that there wasn't any "blockbusters".
For me im just happy about star ocean and as a whole if this was announced as an indie showcase then I'd say 8/10
Ok, Sony/Nintendo/Xbox, listen up.
Can we just stop having these mini reveal events unless you actually have something significant to reveal?
Nothing in this State of Play justified even having a State of Play. Everything could have been announced individually and randomly on the Playstation Blog, PS YouTube acct., or PS Twitter feed.
🤦♂️
Imagine being a developer on one of those games right now, bet they feel their hardwork was justified now knowing that the Internet collective feel it wasn't worth being on a 20 minute SoP.
What just happened lol. You have nothing releasing for the Holiday, you have nearly ZERO next gen exclusives on the Horizon.... So you decide you should create a state of play during the holidays season to drum up additional hype by showing friggin bugsnax and whatever else most of that nonsense was?!
I mean Little Devil inside looks cute, but come on.
Sony has just completely phoned it in at this point. They saw that demand for their console was so high, they were like ok boys and girls we can just sit back and rake in the cash. No effort needed and that's exactly what they are doing. Half baked effort, terrible PS plus games for months, and state of plays that are terrible and usually just a really passive way to release negative information regarding exclusivity, release delays, and temper expectations based on earlier false claim.
But wow, this SOP is a new low. For those that are defending Sony no matter what as always,.... really? Well 75% of us capable of objectivity regarding Sony, see that for the steaming pile it was.
@UltimateOtaku91
To be fair, if this was the level of announcements from any of the big 3, it's safe to say the reactions would be similar.
Just sort of felt unnecessary more than bad or good. Most of these could have been blog posts or individual trailer reveals.
LDI looks intriguing though. And I'm excited for death's door.
It was pretty good. Highlight was Death's Door no longer being Xbox exclusive (when it was revealed as an Xbox exclusive I figured it would be timed and I'd wait for a Switch port) but a few others also looked interesting like Star Ocean and Little Devil Inside.
I would say though that monthly PS+ continuing to be a dumping ground for online games is rather disappointing.
Totally forgot about it and I'm glad I did forget. Waste of time from what I can see.
Also sony get backlash for not supporting or showcasing enough indies, also when sony do they also face backlash. Those developers would be proud and yet at the same time will read peoples comments and feel the opposite
Yasss star ocean! That is all Xd
I'm happy for star ocean but everything else is ok for people that were looking for those games.....but star ocean let's go!!!
I think it was fantastic since my expectation was that it was gonna be bad and just have indies, but as a big Star Ocean Fan I'm super happy now
I was hoping for the rest of plus games to.be announced seems odd to announce one ?
worst state of play ever
That was awful.
Wasn’t great but they set low expectations correctly.
While the other titles didn’t personally Interest ME, I’m sure they interested someone else. I’d rather they use the time to highlight these unknown games and devs than huge known AAA games like CoD, Barttlefield etc.
On that front alone good job.
It was trash overall.
Death's Door announcement was good.
KOFXV beta. Definitely going to download that.
New Star Ocean reveal was nice but it didn't give a great first impression. Still, im a Star Ocean fan so I will buy lol.
Little Devil Inside. Just looked like he walked around and that was it. Game looks pretty and I look forward to it but I would have liked a more than just what was showed.
The rest was just trash.
I’d be excited for Death’s Door if I hadn’t already beaten it on SX, nothing here for me today.
@KundaliniRising333 I don't get replies like this. Sony just put out a ton of first party games in its first year and just because the game they wanted for this Holiday got delayed they're phoning it in? Early next year is absolutely stacked already. Microsoft is literally going an entire year without a new first party game when they finally release FH5. Games take a long time to make and sometimes delays don't work out.
Forgot this was happening. Doesn’t look like I missed much...
I expected nothing and that's what I received so mission accomplished 👍
I have to say as a PS5 owner, what the hell has happened? Where are the games... any games that show off what the console can do? Are there actually any PS5 exclusive games announced to look forward to at the moment? If it wasn't for Elden Ring I'd probably think about selling my PS5 and coming back in 3 or 4 years when there's actually something impressive to play without being fleeced £70 for cross-gen and rereleases. Starting to feel like I should have gone for a PC this gen.
State of Dismay more like.
Can see why some people might be upset about the state of play but i think Sony did set the expectations of nothing major but people don't seem to always get that. People tend to here state of play and then not read on. Think Sony need to do a Nintendo and have 2 different event names. The main one being state of play for bigger announcements/gameplay and then a small one perhaps called state of indie for these smaller showcases. Will help clear up alot of the confusion and set expectations better.
Worst State Of Play yet I expected nothing and was still disappointed I don't think I'll bother tuning in to State Of Play again they've all been mostly bad. Oh well at least Fatal Frame is out today to wash the taste of this crap out of my mouth
Don't understand why they did this really. Appreciate they were upfront (somewhat) and calibrated expectations prior to the event, but just not sure I fully understand how they justified that internally.
Maybe it’s just me, but I really don’t get all that excited to see these types of events. They aren’t awful but nothing really grabs my attention like they used too. Maybe cause I’m just getting older.
@Zag_Man @UltimateOtaku91 Fair points, both.
It seems like a lot of people approach these shows expecting that there will always be something for them, or that there will be something to match an E3 2015 level reveal, and then afterwards there's always a very vocal group that are disappointed.
Maybe Sony could have done more to let people know in advance that it would mostly be indies? But even then they didn't hype this up that much, and they do have advertising obligations with some of their partners.
Saying that, look at the heavy hitters that were revealed at the last State of Play. People still complained even though KoToR and Wolverine were dropped. Massive games, but because those games were not for them it was a terrible show. Then other people complained about the pacing of it. 🤷♂️
I'm not trying to dismiss anyone's complaints here. My point is, it's hard to know how to gauge these reactions.
There was very little in that show tonight for me, but that's okay. It's hardly the end of the world, and it's always fun to see new games.
Was really hoping for something resident evil related I guess the fortnite skins is all capcom is going to do for the 25th anniversary 👎🏻
The State of That...
20 min SoP... one title of interest for me... First Class Trouble... and it'll be free. I can't complain. Not a great overall showing but at least there was something.
It was definitely among the weakest I've seen but it's all good. Sometimes your just not going to to get much for you with these things. Happy to see Star Ocean return for fans of that series even though it looked really rough.
But yeah nothing for me in this one.
@shonenjump86 I have to respond to this, because I've seen a lot of people saying this in the past few years.
Without making any assumptions about your gaming habits, the issue with most other folk I talk to about this is that, many people buy whatever big game is in the charts because it scores 9/10 and gets to #1, or they buy a game and play it because their friends are playing it, but they never stop to consider if it's something they would actually enjoy playing.
They become jaded and burned out, and they can't enjoy games at all anymore. It happens more and more because we play more and more.
PS Plus, Game Pass, Microsoft's "Normalise Playing Ten Games At Once" campaign.
It's exhausting.
It happened to me about 10 years ago. I just burned out.
I had to quit playing for a year straight before I could remember how I used to enjoy games as a kid - Get a game for birthday and a game for Christmas, ones that I really know I'll love, then play the crap out of them. (Although I will get a few games during the year now too. Just not 3 or 4 a month like I did in my 20s).
Having said that, tonight's show wasn't the most exciting, so it just might not have been your cup of tea.
I didn't watch it because I was playing Yakuza 0. So I had a good time. I did read the announcements though and damn.
@Icey664 Firstly, It's a cross gen game. Secondly you saw it in a compressed form on youtube during the stream so it's obviously going to look worse than it actually is. Lastly, the game obviously isnt finished and you have'nt played it so how can you judge it. Maybe let people get excited for games that interest them? Not every JRPG needs to have the graphical fidelity of FF7 remake cause guess what, not every game has the same budget.
Oh but I must say though that We are OFK trailer was actually painful to watch. The jokes were so cringy I heard my back crack from cringing so hard.
Pure sh1te, just awful
@Zag_Man I do agree with that point you made about back loading the last show. Around the middle of that stream I honestly was thinking that they need to save themselves. But then they did, and looking at the individual trailers afterwards was very exciting.
But fair point on that.
Also, they're absolutely trying to advertise beyond the core demographic. No doubt. Yet, it's the core demographic who are the most vocal and most likely to react to these videos.
Beyond the core crowd, they must be seeing some kind of positive engagement with wider audiences.
I don't know how they would measure that, and I'm 100% speculating when I say all of this, but I can't think of any other reason.
Maybe they're just hoping streamers will eat up some of this stuff on PS Plus?
Glad Death’s Door is coming to PS5. I’d been holding out on getting it on the Xbone in case I got a Series console, but I’m happy to have it for PS5. Little Devil Inside looks interesting as well.
The rest was sort of… I mean, if I were Sony, I wouldn’t have billed this as a State of Play. Star Ocean was the only “big” game here and that’s even a little bit of a stretch. I’m really baffled by a couple of the games that were being marketed. I mean, sure, someone has to be interested in that OFK game, right? Sony has to know that the people that watch State of Play are going to take things like that to a shooting block, right? Is it reverse psychology marketing or something? I’m really trying to understand the logic of the State of Play.
@Old-Red I agree. It’s crazy that people were so desperate to get hold of them last Christmas and some were paying ridiculous amounts to scalpers. For what exactly? I bet most regret it now, even if they refuse to admit it - to us or themselves.
I told myself I’d never buy a console at launch after the PS4 and it looks like I made the right decision. I’m praying my PS4 Pro lasts another 2-3 years at this point. I can live without Demon’s Souls and Ratchet & Clank ‘til then (and I’m a huge R&C fan as well). Shocking.
@UltimateOtaku91 “ The fact is if this was for Nintendo or Xbox then it would be praised. ”
This doesn’t seem right. Xbox’s last third party showcase was universally panned by fans and critics alike. And I’m sure if this was an Xbox showcase, you would be on the sister site criticizing this showcase.
That said, Death’s Door is a fantastic game. Looking forward to Little Devil, as well.
@fR_eeBritney I was just replying to the same point. I was so 'proud' of myself to have bagged a ps5 almost a year ago now, and aside from returnal I'm yet to play anything I couldn't have done before (still to buy ratchet and deathloop). Is 2023's spiderman 2 the next ps5 exclusive?!
Was meh, but I heavily recommend Death's Door to anyone and everyone that can play it. Beat in on Series X a while ago and it is a legitimate GOTY contender in my book.
That was horrible state of play.but i rather watch krs one vs big daddy kane. Dave chappelle the closer.and drink champs shyheim.those 3 are amazing.but wow.i want my minutes back.word up son
Maybe from the start, brand it as something Indie or third party. With an event title that has SONY in it, I was really expecting at least one reveal from their own studios. Watching it live was a major downer.
Yawn, yawn....zzzzz..... totally bored watching this... Sony, get a grip please!
Little Devil Inside went from me not knowing it's existence to being on my radar at least. That being said, I completely expected this from a 20 minute presentation so I wasn't really let down due to not anticipating anything. Star Ocean was a bit of a surprise but it definitely looks incredibly low budget.
@meltendo it was billed as third party from the beginning.
That said, this was pure indie apart from square enix's 12 frames per second game
@fR_eeBritney Eh, I definitely haven't regretted buying a PS5 and I rarely buy PS5 games for it. Fact is that the PS5 is now the best way to play PS4 games and it might just be my imagination but I can swear that games stream better on it than they ever did on my ps4, so in that sense the experience has been completely worth it for me. It helps that I skipped out on buying a PS4 Pro, so this really did feel like a big jump in performance from my OG PS4.
Star Ocean is the only reason its poor and not very poor.
if you expected major announcements from a 20 min conference that they pre announced it was a 3rd party thing before hand. its your own fault. cry some more.
What a waist of time. I know PS has good stuff coming but why was any of this showcased?
Total garbage, star ocean looks like it was developed for the ps3 ,it looked like it was running at 12fps at some points, little devil inside was the highlight for me,and what the actual fok was thaf ofk crap, well at least we know whats coming to gamepass in the next few months
And I thought PS plus gave us bugger all. Well done Sony you’ve found a way to give us less than that
@twitchtvpat 3rd party yes,3rd party cows festering udders ,no thanks
Well that was... pretty uninspiring.
I don't think Sony cares about anyone's opinion anymore though. They could have shown Jim Ryan trying on hats for 20 minutes and PS5's would still keep flying off the shelves.
Missed it.
But super happy for Star Ocean (big fan, played them all) so 1 more game on the list.
Have Death's Door on PC... tons of fun, people should check it out.
@Ralizah Well you know Square Enix and Sony and their tendency of wanting big announcements rather than announce them in the PS Blog and Youtube channels
If this and Little Devil Inside were in the PS Showcase last month (instead of the over-announced Deathloop and Guardians of the Galaxy). This State of Play would not have existed. But the trailers came too late into PS California HQ to include them in the Showcase (as usual with Japanese developed games)
Currently at 75% poor & very poor so at least they got a consistent reaction. 🤷♂️
Maybe this was bad on purpose to make a December PSX look so much better by comparison? Only thing I got.
I thought it was a good little show. Death's Door is an awesome game. The pop band thing looks fun. New Star Ocean was a nice big surprise. And Little Devil Inside is looking pretty meaty.
The 3D Among Us game looked kind of meh, but I thought it quite good overall. I didn't have super high expectations.
I was happy to see Death's Door coming to PS5. The new update to Bugsnax is cool, especially for being free. Might get me to pick the game up. A new Star Ocean game is neat, it's definitely more of a niche series and the trailer seemed a little lacking in polish but I'm interested in seeing more. And Little Devil Inside looks fantastic.
Other than that I don't think anything that was shown was better than mediocre looking. There was a long ass trailer for some band I've never heard of that was selling a video game about themselves. Came off as more annoying than anything else. Something like that REALLY needs actual gameplay if you genuinely want people to care.
I dunno. I thought it was eh. More misses than hits, but the hits were pretty damn good. However, this exposes the issue with the State of Play label being used so broadly.
Wasn't expecting much. Little Devil Inside looks pretty good. Everything else looked meh.
Was bummed out we got zero information on some big upcoming games FFXI being the one I was most hoping to see some updates on. Star Ocean was my favorite out of everything shown but I wasn't really impressed with what I saw. It looked pretty ruff. Little Devil also looked good but definitely isn't my kind of game. So for me this state of play was 4 out of 10.
@GoldenKnight582 @themightyant @Grumblevolcano @UltimateOtaku91 @chicken_chaser @patronmacabre @MightyDemon82 @Integrity @GorosBat Agreed, I don't get why so many people are bashing on this State of Play.
I'm looking forward to at least 3 of the games that were shown off, and am slightly curious in checking out some of the others.
It was ok. That Star Ocean reveal was interesting. The series has always had a cheap look to it but played well, kind of like a Falcom game but I don't think that's enough after Tales of Arise. It really raised the bar for Japanese games.
Seemed more geared toward the Japanese market. Glad Deaths Door is coming and Little Devil Inside looks weird but in a good way.
My first one! I tuned in late, figuring you could start from the beginning, but no?!? What is this, the 90s? Watched a minute of some horribly voiced-over Among Us wannabe, and switched it off.
So this was also my last one! Yawn
Shocking at how bad this really was. Yes, it was an out of the blue State of Play, but this would seem more damaging than positive. They really should have just skipped it as all they are going to get from it is negativity and some people not even caring for whenever they do another one. If this was geared towards the Japanese market, then show something that people would actually be interested in like... Final Fantasy 16 finally...
Little Devil Inside might end up being fine, but not my cup of tea after watching the trailer. Star Ocean is the only real game of note even if I've never played any of the series before, as at least it's at least an established series.
Hilarious that the Death's Door trailer was "Not Actual Gameplay" since the game has been out for months on Xbox.
@Shepherd_Tallon yeah, definitely wasn’t my cup tea. Which is fine actually, I know something will get my attention eventually.
To everyone asking if this show needed to be a SoP, I mean, no, it did not, but what does!? If all these games/trailers were blog posts I would likely have skipped them, because who actually reads the PS Blog? And as someone else said, we don't need a SoP to see big stupid games. A FFXVI trailer, Squeenix could literally drop that anywhere and it would be covered EVERYWHERE. I like a SoP that highlights games I largely haven't heard of, that would otherwise get lost in the shuffle.
I will concede that the real issue is Sony's messaging, but I'll also say they did attempt to temper expectations. Maybe they do need an indie branding, by even then I think labeling games like that can be really damaging and devaluing.
That was easily the worst State of Play so far. Not really an issue though. Just wish Sony would engage with things like E3. I miss the huge megaton events. It’s not the same without them.
I'm not a ps guy, but for me it wasn't that bad, it was actually okay. They focused on updates on already announced games and saved space for a few surprises like KartRiders (its a fun game, it's no Mario Kart but is cool, played on xbox while ago), and the biggest surprise was Star Ocean that looked pretty good to me. It was not a big show, but to me it was far from the poor or terrible some people are talking.
Nothing here appealed to me to be honest. Deathverse looks like what fortnite tweens will play when they want gore. Underwhelmed totally, none of these will be purchased by me
@get2sammyb “Don't understand why they did this really. Appreciate they were upfront (somewhat) and calibrated expectations prior to the event, but just not sure I fully understand how they justified that internally.”
Shining a light on smaller and niche indies is no longer justified? I’m sure it makes a great difference to those smaller teams and games to have some higher profile exposure than a blog post.
It feels they can’t win sometimes.
A) When they concentrate on the AAA or main stream indies, gamers and media accuse them of being single minded, forgetting their roots and bad for indies.
B) Highlight small indies and niche titles and gamers + media say ‘why did they do this? Not what “I” wanted’
Yes it 100% could have been better, no doubt, but I thought they appropriately set expectations, with little fanfare. For a short 20 minute third party show there were some nice announcements.
Yes it could have been more balanced and maybe lacked another larger announcement to bookend it e.g. Pragmata, Stray or banger PS plus games. But not every show needs to be a huge 8+/10 endeavour.
Personally I prefer they shine a light on smaller devs and titles over seeing trailer #8 for call of duty or battlefield. That should be praised not punished.
Not so much. Really interested in Little Devil Inside but that's about it.
Nothing of much interest . Star Ocean hasn’t been good for a while and the only thing good about the last one, the art and character models generally, is terrible here…nothing else even worth commenting on
There is an art in managing expectation, PlayStation lacks that art.
Would they have added ":Indie Edition" to the name it would be okay and I wouldn't care to watch.
It was kinda bad. Most of the games seemed like bad games made in Unity by some random dudes.
But hey, Death's Door is one of the best games of the year and Little Devil Inside seems fine too
@UltimateOtaku91 Nobody would have praised this if it were for Xbox or Nintendo. It was bad regardless of which platform it was for and feels like it should have been part of a larger SoP announcement rather than its own thing.
I think it was good. That I’m not personally excited playing them is beside the point. Was cool to watch and interesting announcements for different public considering I had no expectation whatsoever.
Not every State of Play has to be for my personal gaming tastes. Too much selfishness in gamers
@KidBoruto @themightyant it's kind of pathetic and entitled. Sony told people not to expect too much, after all it was a month after a big Sony show. They told us to not expect fireworks so to speak. Even staff here complained that SoP was no good, and this stuff is their livelihood! I don't understand how more communication like this from any platform manufacturer is a waste of time. People actually said Sony may as well have announced all this in a blog. How is that preferable to a nice video showcase presentation? Plus there were some decent games there!!! Little Devil Inside looked absolutely charming! And Star Ocean was a nice surprise as was Death's Door.
Seriously, the level of selfish entitlement here is eye opening. Just because there wasn't something they liked the whole thing should be scrapped and Sony are wrong for doing it. Such cynicism. They can't like this hobby as much as they think. It was a 20 minute show, a little teaser, a pleasant package put together to highlight some 3rd party developer's work who will benefit from the extra, focussed exposure. It was as much for their benefit as ours. But no, we shouldn't have that, and those devs shouldn't get to showcase their games because some people don't like it, so sod the rest of us and Sony too.
@themightyant agreed mate. I'm perplexed at attitudes here. Such negativity for the sake of it.
@Integrity THAT sadly seems to be gaming nowadays.
Default state: Negativity, outrage & disappointment.
Call me a kook but in both games and life I like to count my blessings of what is there over lamenting what isn't. But each to their own.
It's pretty good, little devil inside is good, death door ps5 is a nice announcement, and I'm super glad there's a new star ocean titles, it looks like xenoblades chronicles on switch which is pretty cool
I think showing Little Devil Inside as well as Deaths Door made this a decent show. Honestly don't even have time for new games anyway. There's enough new games to play until next year when Elden Ring, Horizon, etc come out so not too fussed about new games this year. Unless you are finishing lots of big games a month, which is really a minority demographic.
@GorosBat
I mean visually it looked OK I guess, it's just the animations and camera moves that looked like they were from 2009.
jokes aside i don't think it was that bad. some interesting announcements , but i don't think an event was really needed for this. people just come up with these unrealistic expectations what will be announced that have no chance of being announced , and they let themself down.
The bad thing is that the system will have a weak christmas holiday...still a lot first party games to buy than any rival but the public perception could be brutal.I think sony will have extra stock at december to battle this.
Oh jeez. I read a few comments even from Sammy. So PlayStation supports indies or Japanese devs is bad now flip floppers?
There can’t be stuff for different people? It could have been COD battlefield and next gen CP77 for all I care that wouldn’t be for my taste either. It’s like with Geoff events with people hating on them for no reason like we paid for the events and want a refund. This world 🙄
People won't understand State of Play are a minor format, and not a ***** E3. Announcing Let it Die sequel, a new Star Ocean, showing a great indie like LDI, some minor news for nice games (KOF)... what else would you like from a 20 min minor SoP?! when we just had a huge Showcase a month ago...
Might as well just skip the whole thing next time. A mail is more than enough.
I think of these were more frequent/monthly it would be fine. The fact they are silent so long gets hopes up too much
@Integrity This so much. Thank you for expressing it in more detail.
@JJ2 I think it's more to do with the quality on show rather than the fact they weren't AAA blockbusters.
I only liked the deeper look at Little Devil Inside, very much looking forward to that.

Could have been an email lol that was the biggest waste of time ever. None of those games peaked my interest not even a little bit.
The worst state of play. Why did they even bother?
The next time someone clones Among Us (which itself is an adaptation of Mafia/Werewolf or whatever card-game variation you first encountered) and acts like it's some new, innovative idea...
Well, I can't say what I really feel should happen to them in public, or I'd be justifiably moderated. Like the umpteenth Battle Royale game, I don't want to hear you pretending it's innovative.
@Integrity I don't agree. I say, if you're going to save up news for a big reveal presentation, then BRING IT.
Otherwise, giving each of these titles their own blog post (which, to be fair, happened shortly after the SoP on PS's blog site) lets each one elaborate on what you saw in the trailer and spreads the news out so there's always talk of something new around the corner.
Now, that's a choice. Perhaps Sony thinks that a post-of-the-week from each studio promoting their piece doesn't bring in as much attention as a State of Play that pulls them all together - and perhaps you end up paying more attention to a trailer that otherwise you would have never hit Play for. But some of us saying that choice doesn't really seem to pay off isn't entitled or unfair, it's just an opinion.
Personally, I think these same game trailers should have been released over the course of 3-6 weeks on the PS Blog. Then there wouldn't be the negative talk about them failing to live up to a SoP, and Sony could still be promoting the same games.
all jokes aside people expect way too much from these events. not every event is going to have major announcements. they pretty much say this is what the event is going to be about before hand , and people still complain.
@kingvosyoutube not even event is going to be geared towards you or things you are interested in, crazy right , i know. but that's how it works.
I don't understand all the negativity. On one hand people complain about playstation only focusing on big budget block buster games, and then people complain about playstation putting smaller lower budget games, people typicallly overlook, into spot light. I would rather say combining all of the show cases and SOPs playstation showed a nice variety, there should be something new for pretty much everybody despite the extra difficulties due to the still on going pandemic.
@KidBoruto Right, like people have been saying it was trash and awful but in the same post they also say that there were a handful of things they were interested in. In a small 20 minute presentation like this, that handful is like, 40% or 50% of the whole thing. Of course you won't like every game shown; that goes for any event. So while I think that there probably could have been a better selection prepared for the showcase, it was okay at worst and potentially even great at best if you're someone who's super invested in niche series like KoF or Star Ocean or you just really vibed with one of the new games shown.
