The ads are integrated but I think you'll find their placement on the new site much more favourable. They stick out much more, so it's much more obvious what's an ad and what's actual content.
@get2sammyb: As I said Sammy, and I know you probably won't like this, but if I feel they are too much, in my face and/or feel they are annoying in any way, then I have NO issue with using an ad-blocker. Whether that means I am no longer welcome here, so be it! I know losing 1-2 people isn't really going to make much difference to your traffic and figures of course but I don't visit for the ads and whilst I will accept a few unobtrusive ads for the sake of ensuring a site survives, if they affect my experience, they are gone or I am.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

I still visit the NLife forums every day, since I'm a moderator; however, I rarely visit the main page. It's too cumbersome to navigate, and the only reason I visit the main page these days is to check on alerts.
Also agree with @BAMozzy; not a big fan of how the ads are concealed as articles. I'd rather pay for a subscription based service that gets rid of the ads altogether.
As someone who works in web based software, I feel for anyone having to implement a new site, especially when the existing one works pretty well. The key thing for me on any website is 1) Can I easily see what content is relevant to me and 2) Can I access that content quickly and elegantly on whatever device I have?
I am sure the new site will be grand. As for ads, they are a necessary evil and I don't mind as long as it doesn't interrupt or get in the way of my user experience. I think the PS content is ace and am happy to click off to ads to support it.
Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot
The key thing we've wanted to change with this redesign is to promote more content. The current layout is great for people who visit several times a day, but we're producing so much more stuff than we used to, that we've had a problem making sure it all gets seen by the people who visit maybe two or three times a week.
I think we've nailed it personally. I hope you're all going to love it.
@get2sammyb: More content can make things look messy and busy. More content doesn't always mean better either. Change can be good thing but also bad - Content and Change hasn't helped CoD and yet their developers would say they thought their community would like it.
The new website isn't going to be perfect from my perspective - it can't be if it has ads! That being said we can still accept things that aren't perfect or even ideal - again to use gaming as examples, Bloodbourne wasn't ideal at 30fps and games like the Witcher 3 and the Last Guardian are far from perfect as they both suffer technical issues which shows that if everything else is great we can tolerate some minor aspect. Of course if these games were regularly at 20fps, I am sure that that would have a greater impact than the quality elsewhere.
I of course am not criticising something I haven't yet seen. All I am saying is that we as gamers have heard similar comments about our favourite franchise and are generally used to 'not ideal or perfect' situations although if something is particularly bad, it takes a lot away from the quality everywhere else. Sometimes change can work and other times not. I am glad though you are not taking your design queues from NL, N4G and Microsoft!

The new layout isn't great and looks like it was designed by a child!!!
I know that change can be a good thing and also take a bit of getting used too but I really do think its a step back. I admit though that it fits better on my screen as the previous layout left a big area on the right but so far that's the only positive. I used the 'News' feed as my 'home' page as that kept me updated with new articles as they were published. On the right side, I could always see when a new 'review' was published (if i chose to read it or not) and could also see any new 'forum' activity too but that's all gone.
For something that is 'bespoke' and designed for PushSquare, it certainly 'borrows' a LOT from Nintendo Life. Granted the header is slightly different as they use a two line approach with the Logo on the top line and the categories on the second where as PushSquare keeps this to one line but apart from that, there isn't a significant difference. I have always preferred a 'List' view and at least NL allows you to select List or tiles but this just mixes it up. Apart from the 'colour' difference, how is this a 'bespoke' design?
I couldn't care less what is 'popular' right now - if the article is of interest to me, regardless of whether its popular or not, I will read it and normally within the first hour or three of it being published.
I know you are probably happy with the layout but now it looks like so many other websites! Its a good job PushSquare has a great community otherwise I think I would seriously consider getting my news etc elsewhere.
