@colonelkilgore I honestly can't say, seems like a weird thing to do but between the expected shut down of the PS Store (precedent set by Wii shop) and the unexpected removal of patches (no precedent) they could go either way with trophies.
I don't think I can ever get burned out on MGS, I can't believe I even want to play them again now after playing through the lot of them again last year! 😂 I will abstain for a while though, still got a lot of PS Plus games to tick off before my sub runs out in a month or 2.
I don't think I'm going to even try getting into Assassin's Creed. I played the ps plus one Freedom Cry and just thought it was ass and not to my tastes. Admittedly that random (standalone DLC?) game is probably not indicative of the quality of the whole series (and also not the best place to start) but I think it's a good enough excuse to not add 20 or so games to my back log 😅
@ralphdibny I’ve only played V & PW of the MGS series but now I’ve had a break I’m really looking forward to 1, 2 & 4 in particular. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the AC games. Playing one of those is a nice change of pace with all the other games in the back log. The combat is horrible, the parkour can be great and awful in the same 5 seconds and they are each, a major time sink... but once I’m in to one I like the loop.
@colonelkilgore be sure to play 3 before 4 as well. The narrative in 4 relies heavily on being familiar with 1, 2, 3 and to a lesser extent, Portable Ops (it gets mentioned in passing, it isn't essential but it is a bloody good game and is kind of the basis for the game play in both PW and V).
The AC games do look fun and the lore sounds fascinating! I don't like to bag on any games normally because fanbases can be quite ardent and I don't want to detract from anyone's experiences with my own negativity. This time I'm just using my ignorance of the series and boring experience with Freedom Cry to avoid adding all those time sinks to my "list"! Maybe in 20 years or something I'll get around to it haha. They do get my respect though because of the little shout outs the series gets in Peace Walker!
@ralphdibny I had to google it as I couldn’t remember... frikkin shared universe though. That’s it the AC games are going next to the MGS games on the shelf!
@RogerRoger cheers for the reply, I appreciate it! I did watch a comparison video but it was hard for me to tell the differences on my computer monitor without the youtuber pointing them out. It's good to get a second opinion on it anyway!
Definitely will be getting Jak X when it's next on sale. It's weird they had HD ports ready to go and they decided to just emulate the PS2 versions when they brought it to PS4. It kind of beggars belief that a PS3 game could perform better than its PS4 counterpart too!
Ive never played any Jak/Ratchet/Killzone games before because I was a GameCube boy during the PS2 era. I'm fairly interested to see what Naughty Dog and Insomniac did in the generation and a half that I missed because I absolutely love Crash/Spyro/Uncharted/Spider-Man.
It doesn't feel great to drop £150 on digital games all in one go though to be honest. The games I've bought are more expensive to buy physically and I suspect they will only get even more expensive with the loss of their digital counterparts. So yeah, it's just kind of future proofing my library as I doubt I'll get around to playing many of them any time soon.
I've got a CEX basket going that currently has Resistance 3, Motorstorm 1-3, Killzone 2 and 3 and a few other bits and pops in it. PS Exclusives mainly. It's weird as well, because I've discovered a whole subsection of PS3 eyetoy games that I never really paid much attention to before either. Might pick up the camera and a couple of the main games like Move Heroes and Ape Escape while I'm at it.
Is there anything you've picked up in the PS3 store lately or plan to pick up?
Haha nah it's not smug at all. Clunky menus, slow PS Store, monetary outlay, you've just spread the pain out over a long time whereas I am ripping the bandaid off in one go. (I know we call them plasters but I've never heard the phrase said with the word plaster instead of band aid unless I've tried to awkwardly Anglicise it in the past 😂)
I've got all the PS1 tomb raiders on ps3, I even bought Rayman 2 a few months ago. I don't know why though, I need to try and remember the complete ISO set that I torrented. Why am I even buying them lol
So yeah, it's mainly PS3 games I'm looking at. Even DLC for them is awkward. Especially if I've never played the game, I don't necessarily know what I'd want out of an extensive and expensive list of DLC for an unplayed game. Once I secure physical copies of the Motorstorm games, I think I might buy any additional track packs but skip the vehicles. That kinda makes sense right? Buy levels, skip cosmetics (though I'm sure the vehicles have different stats and aren't just cosmetic).
Do you have any outstanding DLC that you need to pick up? Or can you remember any notable bits of DLC you've bought in the past? (Particularly for PS exclusives)
I was looking at that Street Fighter X Tekken which still irks me that the DLC is on disc behind a pay wall. Just googled it and it's on sale on steam anyway so might just buy it there and save the hassle.
I think ratchet and clank q force has DLC but again, without playing it I have no idea if it's cosmetic or what really.
The PS3 eyetoy costs like £2.50 in CEX so pretty cheap really. I agree though, anything that's halfway decent for it was probably released physically. There's even some magic book thing. I sort of vaguely remember that coming out and I think the book had QR codes in it or something.
I think the recent spate of quality ports, particularly but not limited to the old Star Wars games has me optimistic for similar revivals. I didn't even know there were PS2 classics on the store apart from the HD ports. I had a look just now and couldn't find a section that listed them, the PS1 games or the PS Minis :S. I did search for tomb raider though and found the PS1 versions that way but still, it's not like I can (work out how to) peruse the full library at the moment.
Edit: I just counted and I have 42 physical games for the PS3. I'm sure I'm missing a couple though 😅. I seem to remember having the prince of Persia trilogy and I do not remember selling it. I think the only games I sold were Toy Story 3 and Lego Batman 2 lol, god knows why I bothered selling them
The store closing didn’t really bother me because I’m going physical with my PS3 games as they are stupidly cheap, but I forgot about DLC! 😩. I’m going to start using my PS3 as my main console to save money (I even packed away my PS4 so I’m not tempted to look at the store and see the new releases), so I’m adding loads of games to my CEX basket so I can just buy them all at once and not buy any more games until I’ve finished them all, but now I have to go through the list and see if any of the games have DLC that I’d be interested in.
@Bentleyma- ahh it's so tedious to search each game on the store, click on its product page then scroll down to the DLC bit. Well it is on my PS3 anyway because it's blimmin slow 😅.
Let us know if you see anything you like the look of, I'm keen to leave no stone unturned. At the moment all I can see is Motorstorm as a first party game that has an uncharacteristic amount of DLC available.
How'd you feel about the per item delivery charge at CEX? Just curious because it was a bit of a shock to me! I think I've only ever ordered a random item here or there but this time I thought I'd do a big order to save on delivery... To no avail
@ralphdibny The per item delivery charge is crazy, especially when PS3 games are as cheap as they are. I ordered Sleeping Dogs for £1.50 and had to pay more than that for delivery.
I just spent over £100 on PS3 games, so hopefully they should keep me busy for ages and I won’t be spending any money on games for a while. I got all the games from CEX, with the exception of Persona 5, which cost me £24.99 on Amazon (with free delivery!). I already own Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal on PS4, but seeing as that’s been packed away and I love the game sooo much, I had to get it. I’m happy I have another reason to play it!
Edit: I just bought Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- from the PlayStation Store for £24.99. I know that’s expensive, but it’s something I’d prefer to always have on my hard drive. Overall I’ve spent about £130 on PS3 games, but I now have so many that they’ll keep me busy for literally months. It’ll save me money in the long run because I won’t be buying £60 games.
@Bentleyma- it is definitely odd to adjust spending habits. I'm thinking of doing a run around all the local CEXs and trying to pick up what I can locally and then order the last few things on the website. Such a pain in the you know what!
I feel like delivery is worth it for one item but yeah, just adding £2 to like 30 separate games is really painful!
But yeah, no doubt it's cheaper and there are some excellent games on PS3! So much so that even my unplayed backlog is huge. I tend to dart around the PS3/4/Xbox one and occasionally the Switch and even more occasionally the Wii U. (I rarely pay full price for these consoles, I just collect consoles in general which is why I have most of the modern ish ones!)
Just bought a couple guilty gear games for £1 each off PS4 store a few weeks ago actually. Probably not going to get any more right now, I havent had any time to play those ones 😅
Managed to get out to a couple different CEX today and used up most of my voucher, only got £7.70 left. It's all in quarantine now but off the top of my head, I picked up:
360 (BC on xbone): MGS HD Collection (I know I already have these games on PS2, 3DS and PS3 😂). Hitman Absolution and Zone of the Ender's HD collection (reprinted artwork unfortunately)
Still want to get the hitman hd trilogy for 360, and Watchmen and some move games for PS3.
@RogerRoger I bought the special Arkham origins New a year or two ago for the exclusive dlc but yeah otherwise I don't think I was too fussed about DLC when the PS3 was the newest console. At that point I think I remember being firmly against DLC as a concept so I wouldn't put any money into it. I was ok with like expansion packs as they used to be called but not piecemeal trash. I've softened my approach over the years and actually buy a fair amount of DLC now when it's on sale or try to wait for complete versions to come out.
I think some of the games you've mentioned there are BC on Xbox one which is good at least. I actually bought MG Rising again for Xbox last year for a couple of quid because the DLC is free on Xbox but paid on PS3 for some reason! I am curious about Sega racing transformed but I believe the "best" version of that was on Wii u, so I've heard anyway so I may look into it there.
I'm going to have to look into that PS all stars DLC, when I looked at the page, it all looked cosmetic. I'd probably future proof and get some levels/characters for that though. I actually dislike the smash Bros games so I wasn't really planning on buying All stars any time soon but it might be good to have. We'll see!
Cheers for those links though, I'll have a peruse through them later!
I have noticed a few games I've never heard of that have that gold Sony logo on them. I wonder how many smaller games they published on the ps store. It's a bit much to think about to be honest. I think one of them was called Toy Home if I remember correctly
Ugh! I bought Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- for £24.99 and I didn’t even realise that Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 was available on PS3 for £15.99. It’s the upgraded version! I do prefer that the version I have includes English voice acting though, so that’s something I guess.
I just realised that obnoxious singstar icon is no longer on my PS3 (it's obnoxious because it plays some stupid loud music when highlighted). I joked about it finally being removed when the servers shut down a while back but didn't actually think it would be. I guess I never noticed it actually disappearing!
It's like a cracked paving slab that you step on every day on your way to work. It just becomes something you put up with and don't think about. After a while you don't realise that your walk has got easier but one day in the future you just remember that your walk used to be harder because of a cracked paving slab that the council must have gotten round to fixing!
@Bentleyma- ah lame, I find the naming conventions of fighting games so blimmin' confusing at the best of times lol. Need a bloody spreadsheet to work out the differences between versions sometimes!
@nessisonett Xrd -Sign- can be difficult. There are several difficulties to choose from and tutorial and practice modes, so it does a good job of catering to all skill levels.
@RogerRoger haha sounds like a legend. Unfortunately I don't have any positive memories, just my PS3 booting up and being bombarded with the awful "doo-doo-doo-doo-d-doo" every time!
I wish I could put the Vita installation files into a folder. I have them downloaded onto the ps3 for posterity but it takes ages to scroll down through them all to get to my folders with actual PS3 games in.
I've just checked the page for Arkham Origins, I do own the season pass. I bought the game sealed so it had some deathstroke DLC in it and then I bought the season pass on the store. The only thing that doesn't show up as purchased is the black mask challenge pack. It's £1.69 so could be worth getting just for completions sake but to be honest I don't really like the Arkham games that much. I played half of Asylum a while after it came out and found it really boring. But I've always felt I should give them a fair shake so I played Origins + DLC on PS3 and Origins Blackgate 3DS a couple years ago with an eye to playing asylum/city/knight at some point but have yet to actually get around to those 3 games. I enjoyed origins slightly more than Asylum but I still don't think it's my cup of tea. The challenge maps being my least favourite part of the game makes me wonder if the black mask DLC is worth it. Maybe if I could actually play as Black Mask then it would be good lol but I suspect I can't.
Toy Home isn't on the list of PSminis on Wikipedia. I wonder if they are just smaller games Sony published to get them on to the system 🤷♂️
I fixed up my Dualshock 3 last night so I could actually play some games without random button presses hindering my enjoyment. I gave it a good clean and wrapped some tape around the piece of felt that holds the contacts on the flexible plastic circuit board down onto the main solid circuit board which fixed the random button presses issue (YouTube is our friend 😅). I even fixed up the gammy, leaking malformed analog stick. I think because it was broken anyway, it was quite easy to get the rubber bit off and then I used alcohol to clean off all this stupid melting glue, pushed down the protruding bit of plastic and put it back on, looks much better now! God knows why Sony used glue to assemble this pad, it's so pointless, messy and has a short shelf life. The rubber doesn't move or spin at all even after I removed the glue!
I started playing that Ghost Recon Future Soldier last night which was a ps plus game a few years ago. It's ok, not really my thing but should provide a bit of light entertainment for the next few days. Ive finished the first two levels so far
@RogerRoger you crushed one in your hands?! Are you secretly the Hulk?! Yeah the rumble motors are glued in too, so weird! They're not glued in on the DS4, not sure about the sticks on that though.
It's probably not a game I intend to revisit. I did play through the whole campaign and the cold heart expansion. I can't remember if I did all of the "Initiation" DLC because it was just challenge maps but I gave it a crack. Need to get on Arkham asylum at some point in the next year or so. It's annoying because I love Batman, just not a huge fan of slow paced third person brawlers that are over 8 hours in length. I did stick out 8 God of War games though so there's hope for Arkham yet!
Fudge knows about Toy Home, I'll give you a shout when I've played it as it was another PS Plus game on my spreadsheet 😅
@RogerRoger oh really? I never would have guessed! I am sorry to hear that. I guess? Is someone else being angry something to be sorry to hear? 😅 It's just a natural emotion. Pick a suitable response and assign it to me because I feel like my foot is entering my mouth 😂
Will do, but don't let it put you off, I've read Toy Home is a rather short affair! Also I do wonder if the developers of it would be proud to have inspired 7 whole message board posts about the game in 2021!
