New openworld spiderman game was announced during Sony's e3 show. It's published by Sony, developed by insomniac(I think everyone here knows their work), and will be exclusive to ps4 and ps4 neo.
You guys can probably guess how excited I am. A big scale, high budget AAA open world spiderman game being made by a high class developer? Sign me up! I reckon this will launch around the end of June 2017, in time for the new movie.(Insomniac has stated that it's been in development for quite a while with a big team.)
although i still think that the white symbol sticks out to much
"I pity you. You just don't get it at all...there's not a thing I don't cherish!"
"Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!
I am hoping this will take the crown from Spiderman 2 as best Spiderman game. So far it looks good and has me excited, will be keeping my eye close on this one.
I am wondering though if the exclusivity on the PS4 is some sort of deal Marvel made with Sony in lieu of letting Marvel have part of the movie rights back.

Went to my local GameStop first thing yesterday morning to pre-order. I have total faith in Insomniac to hit a home run with this. The more I thought about it, the more I realized they are the perfect choice, even over Sucker Punch.
@Gamer83: Just a question, but why do you preorder? I mean are you afraid they won't have any copies on release day? I hope that doesn't come off rude just can't see the point of preordering that's all.

@Tasuki:
No problem... Helps out my friends who work there and I'm going to buy it anyway so I figure why not pre-order? Also easy to cancel if the game does suck.
@Gamer83: Ah ok so it comes down to Gamestop politics, I gotcha. I remember in days past it was wise to preorder (as was the case with Zelda Ocarina of Time on N64) due to limited quantities and having maybe a few stores in town that sold video games. But now with the internet and gaming now a major source of revenue, I am sure people can find a copy of a game they want pretty easy without preordering which is why companies use preorder exclusives nowadays I suspect.

I was talking to someone on Twitter about this and it seems that it's most of the Sunset Overdrive team are working on it with now maybe the R&C team joining. The obvious team to do this was Sucker Punch but when Insomniac was announced, I thought "what do you want in a Spiderman game" I want open world, I want it to be colourful, full of personality and just sheer fun. And Insomniac have been delivering that for over 15 years from Spyro to R&C. And while I haven't played Sunset Overdrive I'm sure someone on has who maybe can tell us how well that game can translate into a Spiderman game.
@adf86:
I think you could pick either studio to do this game and it'd be good to go but I think the humor is something Insomniac is a little better at these days than Sucker Punch, which tends to go a more serious direction. Both do open worlds very well. inFamous has great open worlds, Sunset Overdrive had a very cool playground to mess around in. The only thing I would say is that Sucker Punch for sure has the Spider-Man 'feel' down. When I first played inFamous 1 back around the time it launched one of my first reactions after 'this is why I bought a PS3' was that it felt exactly like how I would want a Spider-Man game to feel in how it controlled, particularly the climbing. So back then, it was basically the Spidey game I had always wanted. That would be my only potential concern here with Insomniac. I love the traversal in Sunset Overdrive and Ratchet & Clank as well, but it's a little different from how you want Spider-Man traversal to play out. The good thing is Insomniac has proven to be a versatile developer with its three takes on Resistance being some of the best FPS around, so I'm not really worried at all. I'm confident it will hit a home run with Spider-Man PS4.
This news is great on so many levels. Spider-Man gets a developer with a strong history, particularly on the PlayStation platforms and now Sucker Punch is free to give us more inFamous, a new IP or who knows, maybe a return to Sly Cooper. No matter how it's looked at, as PS4 owners we're the big winners here.
I'm looking forward to this game. It'll be exciting to see what Insomniac do with the character. They've made a lot of fantastic games in the past (Ratchet & Clank, Sunset Overdrive, etc.) and could bring Spider-Man in the form of a game to life. The swinging around should be as fun as always, but its everything else aside from that that Insomniac need to do right. This could be one of PS4's best games and the best Spider-Man game to date if it is done right, and I am certainly watching it.

This game looks great! I watched a video of it and was blown away, it seems to invoke the same feelings of being the hero that Arkham Knight did for me the first time I got in the Batmobile.
This is probably the game I'm most excited for. I hope they do a good job and then we start getting more superhero games. Basically I want them to do what they did with the movies and lead us up to an Avengers game.
I hope they do it justice. Some of the games have been awful (spiderman friend or foe) and some have been alright but feel a bit barren (Web of shadows) it needs a good story with interesting villains and a new York city that feels alive (hope they played alot of gta4 for some inspiration)
@Octane Spider-Man 2 was often the standard the games were held to, but TASM2 had a good swinging game.
This looks good. Bit not exactly innovative; not that it needs to be particularly. It looks largely like TASM systems but refined and accelerated. I don't think this will 'blow anyone away really.
What I would have liked to see - and could still be a thing I guess - is a more environmentally useful and responsive web line. If like to have the physics of a webline that will catch around a building and coil around during a swing (think, giAnt Man's legs in Civil War). That would be something!

Some new bite sized details are trickling out now.
*The first mission is very "cinematic"
*There's at least 20 different Spidey suits in the game, each with some unique abilities
*You can swap those abilities out with a preferred suit
*The preorder bonuses are unlockable in game. Preordering just gets them quicker
*There won't be a day & night cycle but there will be night based missions (asked this question to Insomniac personally)
*Both Mary Jane & Miles Morales are playable at points
*Fast travelling through the subway shows Spidey actually on the train looking at his phone Confirmed Villains include *POTENTIAL SPOILER
Mr Negative, Kingpin, Shocker, Taskmaster and Norman Osborne (Maybe)
*The Avengers Tower, The Sanctom Sanctorium and The Wakanda embassy are locations but we don't know if they play any significant part
*And finally the first post release DLC for The City that never sleeps is called "The Heist" and involves Black Cat.
