So Doom comes out and rocks the house best intro game possibly this year and then battle cry, elder scrolls online, some card game I nearly fell to sleep. Way to go Bethesda. But then came fallout 4 the fella presenting was class, clearly has a passion for games and unlike most people at e3 was talking about other companies games. Great touch.

Im a little concerned about Fallout 4 after watching the godlike presentation again... In the videos:

No skill or trait tab, only SPECIAL and Perks. Also note that at no point during the character creation or the pip-boy SPECIALS does it mention that a stat increases a specific skill, it's just very vague about "Increases chances with barters" or whatever.

And during weapon customization It says that the gun required Rank 1 science, not a level of science but rank 1 science which heavily implies it's just going to be a perk you pick.

Skill and trait system seems to be genuinely gone in FO4.

Hopefully its not that and theres indeed a good RPG system :/

Well Bethesda's conference was good overall from my perspective - not really any surprises as such.

Doom if anything left me a little disappointed and flat - whilst it looked good and definitely fun, it also seemed to be very old school (and no I don't mean the lack of regenerating health...). It didn't seem to have much depth or story (like Doom 3) and substituted this for 'gore' - Maybe there is more to it in the final release but we will have to wait and see. At least I will have the opportunity to try the beta (thanks to Wolfenstein...). As it stands at the moment though its not a day 1.

Dishonoured I found to be very average so nt interested in buying a remastered version. Dishonoured 2 looked more interesting but would need to convince me to buy after the first.

Fallout 4 still looks like the character models are last gen bit the world looks a lot more colourful than 3. The cafting system looks interesting and you don't buy a Fallout game specifically for the visuals. Certainly the game I am most looking forward to from Bethesda...

Next up MS's conference (missing from the 'Home' page and E3 schedule) - obviously of interest to me as I have an XB1 but no doubt will have a few 3rd party multi-platform games like the Division, which will be of interest to PS owners too...

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Doom looked WAAAY too slow, the fact that the game slowdowns when changing weapons was another bad decision :/ the assasinations might get boring quite fast too, Doom was all about fast, quick reactions and weapon decisions on the fly, NO weapon was worthless and every weapon was important to the gameplay, once you pass the shock of the ammount of blood it was the gameplay that kept people playing the game (and death match, obviously)

Its still ways to go so that might change and it looks way better than Duke Nukem Forever looked lol but still

the MP looked glorious thou.

Wasn't hugely impressed with Fallout from the videos I saw but then I'm not a big fan of the franchise, I imagine it's a different story once you're immersed in it yourself. Doom looks great, too.

I am not sure if the gameplay was 'slowed' down or the 'player' didn't move as fast to show off the visuals and world. I am not bothered by the Weapon wheel and the fact the game 'slows' whilst selecting - its better than pausing. The game may also feature a quick swap button that cycles through the weapons with each press and it may also allow weapons to be mapped to the D-Pad. The weapon wheel is a better way to show the fact that multiple weapons can be carried and variety too but it may not be the only way to select weapons. I personally found the overall gameplay rather 'shallow' and whilst it's more in keeping with the original Doom, I had hoped for more in this day and age. It could still be good fun for an hour or so....

I doubt that if I do get it, the MP will get much attention. It does face a lot of competition from a LOT of other games - Black Ops 3, Star Wars: BF, Uncharted 4 etc - even Destiny if the Expansion delivers as well as a host of other games releasing.

From my perspective, I really enjoyed the Horizon reveal and Uncharted 4 - WOW - just WOW!

None of the other exclusives or Sony specific announcements really appealed. I don't like Fighting games so SF5 did nothing for me, I am not a fan of Niche Japanese games so the Last Guardian (which to me wasn't that different from the very first reveal) and FF7 didn't appeal. Shenmue (a kickstarter advert) doesn't appeal either. Maybe I am in the minority with these games but its just my opinion and preferred gaming choice.

Destiny's new subclasses looked interesting, Looking forward to Batman and the Scarecrow mission(s), Battlefront (despite my concerns about content) looked great, Black Ops 3 looked good fun - particularly the MP - not sure about the campaign yet though (I prefer to play these Solo - at least first) so plenty to look forward to over the next year - more than my finances will allow so some tough decisions ahead.

Of the games with fixed dates:-
June: Batman: Arkham Knight - Also want Lego Jurassic Park
July: Looks a quiet month from my perspective... Can't see anything of interest yet (unless I have missed something)
August: Rare Replay (my life of gaming in one collection ), I would be interested in GoW but not at that price.
September: Mad Max, Forza 6??
October: Uncharted: NDC, Halo 5 (although the reveal didn't appeal much)??
November: Black Ops 3, Star Wars Battlefront, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Fallout 4
December: nothing yet....

There are some like Lego Marvel Avengers, Just Cause 3 etc without dates, Expansions like the Witcher 3, Destiny's the Taken King etc to factor in as well, a few games on the fringes like Rainbow Six Seige etc and any other 'surprises' that could arrive before Christmas - it could be an expensive 6 months and unlikely to slow down after Christmas - Uncharted 4, Doom, the Division....

@BAMozzy The presentations of ff7, tlg and Shenmue were to serve gamers like me. I would prefer to play a game like ff7 remake or Shenmue 3 as regardless of how good, bad or not my cup of tea it is - the game is part of gaming heritage.

You are an xbox gamer primarily as you have mentioned before and the games that appeal to you tend to be western releases. I like every game regardless of genre or country as long as its fun.

I tend to think of myself as a gamer first and foremost - albeit one of a more western style. I certainly have NO preference to a console brand as to me they are nothing more than a 'tool' to play games. I know I am the first to admit that a lot of Japanese/Oriental style games do not appeal regardless of console. It maybe that I am a little set in my ways as a gamer for many years but the Playstation has not been the ONLY console to have a selection of Oriental games as Nintendo (Mystical Ninja Goemon, Zelda) had a few before the PS was released. I also grew up on games developed by Capcom, Namco, Konami, Taito etc - admittedly a lot were quite 'western' in their presentation, art style and/or game play. Lets be honest too, Japanese manufactured consoles dominated until the Xbox came out with Nintendo, Sega and then Playstation. I myself didn't own a PS until the PS3 which I had (and still do have) a launch model, but my son had a PS1 and several PS2 variations so I gamed on that. It seemed pointless having my own and with him owning one it meant that we as a household had a variety of consoles to use - No point all of us having a Nintendo, Sega or Xbox back then because Online gaming wasn't really a done thing.

I do admit to preferring a western RPG in general to a JRPG - regardless of console. In fact I think all the RPG's I play are ALL 3rd Party games available on both Xbox and PS. Shenmue was on Dreamcast - not Sony and If memory serves me correctly was made by the same guy who made Space Harrier and Hang-on - 2 games that ate up LOTS of my 10p's in the Arcade and for me the best part of Shenmue as I recall both were in the game. I must admit I didn't play 2 because I didn't find Shenmue to be that great.

I get what you are saying about your gaming experience and heritage - part of the reason Rares 30 game compilation appeals but a LOT of those games have nostalgia for me but I don't know that they, in general, will stand the test of time - particularly the 'Ultima' games. I get that you and others want closure on the Shenmue story too - not playing the 2nd though, it means nothing to me.

The Last Guardian though had nothing (from my perspective) that stood out. A puzzler with a boy and oversized flying Dog (Neverending Story springs to mind) - Visually not great and based on seeing that trailer for god knows how many years in one way or another.

I don't dislike games based on country of origin but certain genres/traits/game play does not appeal. I wouldn't like these games if they were made by Western developers with western art style and on Xbox either. Compared to the majority of other games announced these 3 in particular are not games I would be interested in playing. I don't have unlimited finances to buy every game and therefore make choices based on what I think I will get most enjoyment from, likely to play to the finish etc. Looking at the next 6-12 months, the majority of games I will be buying and playing will be on Playstation 4 - see you there if you want...
