I am a little late to the party as far as being a PS4 owner - in fact my PS4 only arrived this morning.
Due to space restrictions though I am likely to have to set my console up vertically and wondered if there are any known issues with this and if this cooling vertical stand would actually be worth getting.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Personally I keep all my consoles flat but that is due to my paranoia of it falling over.
Well normally so do I however with the lack of space I have to reconsider my options. I have a two level set up but the lower level is a little enclosed (not the best air flow) so I keep my XB360 and PS3 here as they are not really used anymore and certainly not for any length of time. On the top I have a Home Theatre System with my Sky Box on top of that. I have my XB1 with my Seagate 5TB External HDD on top (not over the vents). This basically leaves some room to put my PS4 vertically between the Home Theatre and XB1 or horizontally on top of XB360 but like I said the air flow isn't the best.
With that stand, I would have thought it would make the PS4 more stable in this position and the cooling fans should help in general anyway. It also doubles up as a controller docking station too. As the console has now been out for over a year now, any issues (if any) with running it vertically would be more apparent but i haven't heard anything apart from it can sometimes be more noisy this way and contradicting reports about the amount of heat generated (some say it runs cooler vertically and others say its cooler in the horizontal position). Therefore I thought I would ask hear...

You can definitely stand the console vertically, but I don't actually know anyone who does. I'd say if you're really worried about things like overheating, it might be worth investing in the stand, but it might also be worth doing a little more research or waiting to see if someone else has tried it.
I'm not saying it's confirmed, but I have seen people saying that standing the console vertically can make the fans go a little louder, meaning that it's probably hotter than it should be.
