@carlos82 I enjoyed AVGNs output years ago. His initial batch of amateur videos were hilarious. For some reason outside of playing Nes games the show wasn't ever as funny.

@themcnoisy yeah he was definitely at his best in the early days, though there has been a few really good episodes in the last few years though such as the Resident Evil episode and the Megaman episode was really clever
Older than I care to remember but have been gaming since owning a wooden Atari 2600 and played pretty much everything inbetween.
@kyleforrester87 I didn't jump on until late, still have 1 more level to go.
I made a very silly choice early doors by sticking this on hard. Should have ran normal as the gameplay and AI are a step above the older games, without ever feeling cheap.
Compared to the megadrive trilogy this version has way less invincibility frames. I was constantly trying to perform the grand upper and getting clobbered. The defensive specials also have a much smaller window of use. So now I have to change the habits of a lifetime! Which is a good thing, the variety and tactics you need to up the combo gauge combined with the big and regular damage keeps you hyper aware of every single enemy.
I love everything about it so far. The music is banging. I was so worried about this, does anyone remember the announcement trailer with the rock music? Thank god they changed tack and used techno as the basis.
The art style change took me 5 minutes to get over. Rage has always been a bit mad, freddy krueger hands and ultimate warrior bosses, robot doppelgangers and Alien heads out of the wall. This style is probably the only way to bring it kicking and screaming into the modern world, and it works.
The quality of life improvements make each level rewarding to finish, mentioning the end of levels - being able to pick a different character every level is a great idea. And even if you get a game over (which happened more often than I would like to admit), you are presented with the boosts for the following attempt, another great idea.
@Quintumply 7/10 is crazy bro. The story is Saturday morning cartoon nonsense, even worse than SoR 3 if it's possible everything else is top class. Noticed you were playing online in a duo before, has that changed your mind at all? It's all about the multiplayer in Streets of Rage. Single player can be fun, multiplayer is on another level.

@themcnoisy Haha, I'm glad you're loving it, sincerely. I know you're a Streets of Rage fan. Don't let my review bother you, it's just my opinion. And don't get me wrong — I think it's a really fun game, and I'd recommend it in a heartbeat if someone's looking for a PS4 beat 'em up.
@themcnoisy I think the game is fantastic, they have really thought about how to tweak the formula but still leaving it very familiar to play. The new combo system is great and reminds me of the juggle systems from later Street Fighter games and I only just realised you can use your special while jumping. Making the edge of the screens walls for bouncing enemies off is genius as is the simple act of throwing a weapon and catching it in mid air. All with some really good throwback secrets and easter eggs with some great unlockables, custom controls and even retro inspired controls, pretty much everything you could ever want from a sequel. The only thing that could have improved it is 4 player online and when Adam returns have him do an impression of The Rock (Finally, Adam has come back........), maybe that last one is just me 😜
@Quintumply I haven't yet struggled to line up with an enemy 😉

@Quintumply I was just wondering if you enjoyed the co-op.
We will try to beat arcade mode on 1 credit on normal in a few days if you want?
@carlos82 Adam is my favourite character so far, his moveset is better imo. Throws are decent, specials clear a lot of space, his jump attacks are useful and he looks boss with braces.

The 'Retro' trailer kind of suggested you could have the SoR 1 and 2 soundtracks, but the actual retro audio option is a predetermined mix of mostly SoR 2 with some SoR 1 Game Gear tracks... does anyone know if you can unlock the actual Megadrive soundtracks?
@Ristar24 I haven't seen an option to view the tracks listed in the retro tick box. I just Google it and you are right it's SoR 1 and 2 only, both the MD and the master system versions of the music (no idea why you would want inferior master system music).
You can always listen to a YouTube OST as you play. Personally after trialling the retro tracks and crt filters a level later I reverted them all back.
The new soundtrack is brilliant throughout, some of the tracks work better than others and it will grow as you play more. I can't recall a track I actively disliked, although there was one section when the music is bouncing but you are in a dark hallway which didn't work too well.

@themcnoisy Yeah, SoR 1 has my favourite soundtrack, why they used 8-bit versions I dont know. I feel the 'retro' trailer was a bit unclear in that regard, 'Play with Streets of Rage 1 and 2 original soundtracks', is not really what we have. I was hoping the full soundtracks might be unlockable, but yeah I could just add them in myself, its true.
I think the game is great overall, a lot of fun and feels like a true sequel. SoR 1 is one of my favourite ever video games.
@Ristar24 I love all 3. Went to Tokyo to watch Yuzo DJ in the early 2000s, I'm a huge fan. Streets of Rage was the series which got me into Techno, I even love the music from SoR 3, it's underrated imo.
I'm jumping on in a minute actually to finish the game and start a fresh run.

@themcnoisy Yeah, the new game is great, so playable. I actually quite like the retro filter and playing as SoR 1 Blaze, but then, I still play the first game a lot even now on my 2DS XL.
@Ristar24 Unlocked all the SoR 1 characters and Max and Axel from SoR 2 so far.
Max was always my favourite character for clearing 2 in speedy fashion. His moves are way more powerful. Again due to the dent in invincibility frames he has become less useful.
