Sony hasn't 'stopped' Acquiring company's. Since MS closed Bethesda in March 21, their 'last' acquisition and announced their intention to acquire ABK, Sony has continued adding to their Portfolio.
In 2021, they added Nixxes, Housemarque, Firesprite, Fabrik Games, Bluepoint and Valkyrie Entertainment. In 2022, they added Lasengle, Bungie, Haven Studios and Savage Game Studios and in 2023, have added Firewalk Studios - that's just in 'Gaming' having added Crunchyroll & Bad Wolf to their ecosystem - inc their 'IP's', Owns 50% of Esports Evolution Championship and shares in Devolver and FromSoftware. From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_acquisitions_by_Sony
TV/Movie 'IP's' can also help them in Gaming too so its 'important' to consider those 'entertainment' deals too. Those IP's can be used to make Games and with Sony owning their own 'TV/Movies', could use those in conjunction with its PS+ Sub service to 'compete' with Netflix, Amazon and any other Sub service. PS+ for example could offer Sony TV/Movies too - an 'all in one' Service for all things 'Sony' - Games, TV and Movies...
Square Enix seems the most 'logical' purchase for Sony. SE are 'half' the Company they were after selling to Embracer Group and the 'partnership' they have with Sony seems an obvious candidate. Its the 'size' of Acquisition that many feel Sony should be targeting - especially when the ABK deal goes through. I keep seeing the likes of Capcom, Konami or Sega mentioned in terms of being bought, but I think they are unlikely to want to sell, get out of Gaming with a decent retirement fund to live off...
Small and/or individual Studio's all add up too but without the 'big' IP's and AAA games behind them, they almost get 'forgotten' as 'first party'. As I said, since MS 'closed' on the Bethesda deal, Sony have added more Studios to their First Party line-up than that 'single' deal gave MS. They have continued to keep Acquiring Studio's, Content etc to their Portfolio and I doubt they intend to 'stop' with what they have...
Probably unrelated to this, but what are Build A Rocket Boy up to now, and how is progress going on Everywhere?
Either way, they had a clear vision to go in a certain direction with games, hit or miss, so this is the kind of developer you would like to see work with Sony. Hopefully it all works out independently anyway, though 😁
But huge publishers and companies like Square can be guilty of releasing stuff that's kind of made by committee, which you don't really get with smaller more focused developers.
Talent over Turnover will eventually lead to big profits anyway.
When it seems you're out of luck.

@BAMozzy Still hope it isn't Square or Capcom since they are two of the most prolific third party publishers that support Nintendo hardware, without them I think Nintendo could struggle to compete with Sony. Also I'm quite certain Monster Hunter sells WAY better on Nintendo hardware than on Sony's hardware. MH1 & 2 were barely a blip on the radar, the PSP games only sold alright numbers, and I'm pretty sure Rise sold WAY better than World did.
@kyleforrester87 I just don't like it when people turn a blind eye to the obvious. The crap the Jim Ryan pulls is not good for the gaming community in general. And yes I was critical about Don Mattrick when he bulled his B.S. with the always online and can't borrow games. I refused to get an Xbox One and didn't get one till they fired that *****. But when people act that he can't do no wrong when and Ra Ra Ra hurray for Jim Ryan when it's clear as day the damage he is doing to the gaming community That's where I call the b.s. and point it out. And what gets me is when I am silenced and insulted because I am speaking the truth. If Jim Ryan is doing so good why doesn't no one point out the good he's done to tbe gaming community?
Let see blocking companies from purchasing studios so that way they can bring games to more players. Making it so certain games are locked to certain consoles. Not very community friendly if you ask me and detrimental to the gaming landscape.
I get it people.feel brand loyalty, and it's OK when someone in charge is harming the company and calling them on it, it's how companies get better. But turning a blind eye to it because they work for the company you like, that's how they continue to pull the crap they do because everyone is afraid to call b.s.
As a site it was better in the past but now it seems that everyone is afraid to call Jim Ryan on his b.s. but I can see why around here because when you do you get posts deleted, and ridiculed and honestly who wants that. But if you can't speak freely about what's going on and have to pretend and agree everything is fine you got stop and think, is this the kind of environment I want to be a part of?

@Tasuki Jeez man, if gaming causes you this amount of stress, perhaps it's time you give up the hobby and start something new. Reading more books, maybe? Collecting stamps. Something entirely non-destructive!
Nah gaming doesn't cause me stress. Lots of things do but not gaming.

@Tasuki Dude that's literally what you're doing for Phil Spencer. You're blindly following MS and think they can do no wrong. And yes buying out every publisher under the sun wouldn't be good for anyone except MS, it wouldn't give access to games to more people, it'd literally mean that you'd need an XBoX in order to play third party releases and would create a monopoly. Don't forget MS has enough money to purchase the entire industry outright...
That's not to say Jim Ryan is doing an even remotely good job at his position, but it doesn't negate the fact that MS is trying to create a monopoly in the industry.
@Tasuki I’m not saying you don’t have valid points about Jim Ryan but like you’ve told numerous people who come here to complain about Sony in the past, this isn’t an official PlayStation website so what can we do here about it?
Your comment history is lots of Jim Ryan hate, none of it very constructive mind you so no wonder it triggers some people, but if what you are saying is true about not being able to speak freely it would have been deleted.
If you just want us to know you dislike Jim Ryan, I promise - we hear you loud and clear! And if you want a chance to change someone’s mind (a very difficult thing to do on the internet, see exhibit A), you need to be smarter about it!
Perhaps I read the wrong threads on PushSq but I see very little love for Jim Ryan on this site so the constant despise of the man does get somewhat tedious.
However I do like the fact that this site and its readers are critical of the PlayStation leadership, one thing that Xbox gamers could have done with in the last decade imo.
But Anyhoo back on topic.
@LilyGoMEOW MS is a software company first and foremost, they don't care what system you play it on so long as you are playing it. Did Phil say Call of Duty was going to be an exclusive? No he didn't. And from a business perspective, why would MS take Call of Duty away from PS owners and lose all that money? Do you realize that MS has always taken a lost on their consoles?
This isn't like the 90s when you had Nintendo vs Sega for console dominance. Console Wars are a thing of the past and the only ones who insist that there is a console war are people stuck in the past like Jim Ryan. In the end we are all gamers, who cares what hunk of plastic we play our games on. Just let us play games on whatever device we want in the end so we can all enjoy the game. Does it really matter if I play CoD on a PS or play Spider-man on a PC?
