@velio84 @kyleforrester87 Wow I definitely need to explore more. I beat 2 sub-bosses Beast Man & The stone giant with the hammer.- so I figured I was on the right track. Going to head south not even tried that yet tbh.
@colonelkilgore I found 1 golden seed so far & farmed the deposits in the mines to get +2 battle axe.
Thanks for the advice guys!

@Fight_Teza_Fight Further to the advice already given, I chip in with that you can summon an NPC (just before the fog gate) and also use your spirit summons. Although they won't do a great deal of damage to Margaret (as I now call him), they will distract him so you can heal up.

This game is absolutely huge. The scale keeps growing. I am constantly amazed. I'm building up my dex to switch to keen. I'm not sure when is best to switch, hoping 30 dex is a good time.

I keep getting tempted by dex, but dex doesn’t increase when you 2h a weapon, so STR seems to have a natural advantage. Right now I’m running str/int with a heavy uchigatana. Keep toying with dex/int or arcane/int.

JohnnyShoulder

@Mega-Gazz I would go for Dex/Int as one of the better Katana blades you can get it is supposed to be killer, and has a high Dex, medium Int requirement.

I found a curved sword that restored HP with each kill. Couple that with the Quickstep skill I use to dodge and the fact that I don't often use my shield, and this game is starting to play a lot like Bloodborne. Which wasn't my intention, but I'm enjoying it.

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

@JohnnyShoulder I have Nagakiba but it needs 18str 22 dex, so almost forces a quality build. I have moonveil but split damage is really bad in this game (I’ve tested) due to the double resist thing, and don’t want to only spam the art.

I’ve just been putting the same points into STR and DEX. Which means I’ve got around +220 damage on my curved greatsword and about +200 on the grafted blade greatsword. Still not sure which one to use for late game.

@Fight_Teza_Fight That’s some great advice from some helpful chaps there! If it helps, here’s an excellent farming spot. Sorry, it’s a repost but I love this place! It was a huge help to me.

in east Limgrave, straight north of the Third Church of Marika, there is a river with a portal hidden behind some bushes. This transported me to an area in North Caelid. This area is littered with little creatures who are fairly easy to dispatch with the right approach and drop over 1000 runes upon death. They hit very hard, but if you ride straight at them, jump attack off of Torrent (L3 + R2) then immediately get 3 - 4 hits in, they will stagger. Get a backstab in and they will drop (you may need to get another attack or two in if they get up). I can easily get 8,000 to 9,000 runes in per run without much trouble. There are two points of grace here, making recovering runes easy if need be. Oh, and stay far away from the big guy!

@Jimmer-jammer I've been doing the same in that area. I don't get off my horse though, I just run up and hit them 4 times with my long sword to stagger! But yes when they bite back they do so hard and can kill you quickly if you're not careful.

@Mega-Gazz This is my dilemma also re/ the Naga katana... my DEX is currently at 30, and I'm power stancing with dual Uchi katanas.

I've got both equipped with the AoW 'Bloody Slash', but have ensured that the affinity for both is 'Keen' - meaning that the DEX scaling increases to B. Coupled with my new incantation "bloodflame blade", this build is doing well for me so far! The base power of the DEX-scaled Uchis is pretty solid, and the blood slash AoW is great to step up the bleed damage.

Im really intrigued by the premise of the Naga, but my STR is currently only @ 12... and my character is lv50. The idea of pushing the next 6 levels into strength seems like a bold move, when I'd rather put more into VIG/END... or even MIND so that my FP bumps a bit.

Not sure how I feel about quality! What are you running out of interest?

CJD87

Jimmer-jammer

@kyleforrester87 whatever works! The key being not to give them inch. Totally worth figuring out an approach that works though. The rune drop rate is just too good to pass up.

Mega-Gazz

@CJD87 right now I’m at roughly:

Vigor: 20
Mind: 19
End: 18
Str: 27 (ish I forget)
Dex: 15 (min for uchi)
Int: 32
Arc: 10

And I put heavy on my +14 uchi which has gravitas AoW so that it scales from STR and I get more damage when I 2h it.

@Jimmer-jammer @kyleforrester87 Yeah I've been using the same area when I'm near to levelling up and about to face a boss or something. I tend to back stab em, as I've got a talisman equipped which gives me a bit of health for each critical hit. They are no more after a couple more hits.

@velio84 That mine with the prawn magic guys is a nightmare and the outside is very red. I soon skedaddled outta there after grabbing a few bits, like killing the invisible scarab.

Snatcher

I got the game guys! And as promised I will update you on my progress, I think im about two hours in? (Gameplay wise, because I spent forever on the creator) (Also this is my first souls game)

Like I said above I spent forever in the character creator, just to make my person (who which I will probably never see the face of) just how I liked. (Also does anyone know if you can re-edit them?)

After that I started the adventure, know not, really much about these souls games at all (Didn't even know there was multiplayer) the first thing I saw was notes on the floor, it looks like old age twitter LOL, never the less the post a came over were pretty funny, got trolled a few times, but I heard of that,

There was this wooden plank thing at the very start of the level, and some people jokingly said to jump off, what do you know I see these things called bloodstains, and I think I was catching on pretty quickly what those did, and why it was by the blank.

When I looked around a little more I found a way down, and saw a bunch of notes saying there is a boss around the area, now I have played MH before, and wile I don't think the combat style and how you fight are, really like it at all, to much, I thought I would be alright, plus I heard you could kill this thing... How wrong I was, I didn't even hit it, and then something came over me, and thats when I thought to myself, yeah I suck at this.

After I failed I landed some place, and some people in the notes said to head down for the tutorial, that when smoothly so I don't think I need to write much about that, so after the tutorial I head to the door, and then I see these statues, so happens I picked up this thing called an imp key? Or was it for imp statues, whatever the case I opened the gate,

And I actually got pretty far in that area, but I lost my soul at some point, soooo I moved on to leave it for later, (BTW the fact that they had dudes in the little doors where you needed to hid was brutal)
Oh yeah, soul, im not to sure how it works yet, like I know you use it to level up, but im not sure how to see it.

I finally go up the platform, open the door and DANM! It was wonderful, there was a glowing tree just smacked in the center of all this amazing area, short lived was it, as some dude that im sure I need to remember told me what to do, and guess what? I saw a bloodstain and I thought, can I attack this guy? Yeah didn't go over well, but he left at some point,
Then comes the horse riding whatever it is, messed me over like three times just trying to get to the church alone!
after I met the merchant I went into the forest, there were people here and there but nothing I couldn't solve.

But then, I came about a camp, and I thought "Let me just sneak it" Yeah I got destroyed, over, and over, and over again, but I was getting slightly stronger, I sadly had to walk back every time I died tho because I missed the little thing that allows you to revive next to it. The big dude with the spear was to blame for all my deaths tho LOL.

I was able to pick up some of there armor at some point, and there head piece, (Also tips for getting more ammo for the bow? Its something I craft right?) And I followed the glowing light! when I sat down, a girl came out of nowhere, she told me what I needed to know, and that I could summon her, and this horse with a double jump! A double jump!

I then do as she ask and I go up the path, again the notes tell me things, an that there is a massive hulking beast up a head, I got stomped literally! After trying to kill it a few times I headed back to the church, and man Im happy I did, because this girl showed up, to which I dubbed "Jelly fish witch"
She gave this thing to summon things from ashes, I had dogs as my first, guess I got those at some point, after that I headed back to try to face the giant again, only this time, I had dogs!

And I got stomped again LOL, but then I remembered, dude I got a horse! so I just ran past....Then got attacked by raining dogs LOL, I almost died to them do to me not really grasping the controls just yet, the next patch of light I found, I sat down, and ended it there.

Yep and that is my first two hours of this game! from yesterday, and I love, love, Love it! People call it hard, and thats true, but so far I just see me needing to learn, and half the deaths are from my lack of knowledge, and those delayed attack that bait you, I really love it! A lot.

And its a little surprising I only played a souls game till know, because I love hard games, hollowknight cuphead, being one of my favorites. Sorry for the long read, I just wanted to get down as much as I could, maybe I should add the spoiler tag? And I think I will.

@Snatcher sounds like you’re having a heck of a good time! Approaching these games with the right attitude is integral to an enjoyable experience, and it sounds like you’re game.

You can re-edit your character once you reach the hub area.
When you die, you lose all of your runes and must return to where you died to collect them. If you meet your end enroute, they are lost forever. This is the marrow of the risk/reward system at play. The amount you hold are displayed in the bottom right of the HUD, and are used for both levelling up at sites of grace, purchasing items and equipment, and upgrading weapons - in conjunction with other items.
You can craft and also purchase arrows from various vendors.

Hope you continue to enjoy!

@Jimmer-jammer Thank you for the tips, because I have having a hard time figuring the whole thing out. And I assume the levels are there to say? and its sorta like hollow knight where if you lose your shade, you lose your money?

Is the character edit in settings? or have I not reached the hub yet?

Thank you, I will Enjoy playing, Its probably going to be up there in my GOTY list, and i'm not gonna lie, this game is as good as everyone makes it out to be! I know there are tough times ahead, but I know its nothing practice can't solve!

Sorry to ask so much, but if I happen to get lost on where to go next, is there a way to see it? or do I just, adventure and find things? I don't mind ether,

@Snatcher No worries!

Yes, levels are there to stay, and become more ‘expensive’ with subsequent levels, and yes, very similar to Hollow Knight.

You’ll know when you reach the hub area 😄

As for where to go next, I would suggest following any and every breadcrumb as far as you can. You can always come back if you hit a wall. Utilize the markers on your map. If you do eventually become frustrated by a lack of direction, there are a collection of bosses to fell in order to progress the game, which can easily be looked up online. That’s usually a last resort for me personally.

The brilliance of Elden Ring, in my opinion, is how it gives you everything you need to truly carve your own path in this world. Your journey is the narrative! Lot’s of help here if you have any questions.

@Kairu @Jimmer-jammer Thank you two so much! This is so helpful, I will remember to come back here if I need anymore help, and to share my progress!

I have said this many times but, I actually really hated looking around a big world for stuff, this all changed with hollow knight just last year, as it gave me that sense of adventure.
