Thanks! I was thinking of doing a magic build but I seem to fair better with a shield and sword combo. So I think I'll level up Vigor, Endurance, Strength and Dexterity and just keep switching swords when I progress through and get better ones.
A question - I was stuck on a cave boss which I thought I'd never beat, dropped loads of runes on death, kept running through getting more runes from the minions outside and then collecting my dropped ones. If I accidentally go in to a cave boss that is absolutely way too tough to beat, is there a way to get my dropped runes and run!?
Can't think of anything good to put here just yet, watch this space...
@Throb Through a fog wall and you will definitely have to win in order to keep your runes. I've only once got lucky where my runes got deposited outside of the fog wall on death but otherwise I've always had to go through and run to grab them before the fight starts for real.
What I've generally been doing is if I feel I've almost got enough runes for the next level and loosing them is causing me stress at the thought then I'll find a place just where I can go and kill an easy but high yielding enemy type. Sometimes that's been by just doing the same ones near a site of grace so I can just rest and then they respawn and I kill them again, then rest and so on. I do that just enough to get to the next level and then spend them and that way I'm always being as frugal as possible which early on in the game is a real plus. As you level up the rune cost will increase so loosing the same amount won't feel as bad, like I lost 66,000 the other day and it didn't feel as bad as if I'd have done that way earlier in the game.
The other plus point about going into a boss battle with little or no runes is that you don't panic as much and can experiment more to find out what's going to work without much cost.
@JohnnyShoulder I think I ended up sprinting past those rolling enemies in the end. No regrets But yeah, there are some enemies where magic based weapons are key. I entered another tunnel (Liurna crystal tunnel?) where my decent ice axe barely dented enemies so I think that area might be the case too..
And I assume you mean jellyfish bro?
@Throb Don’t forget to use your golden runes too if you need a boost. I always forget to use the equivalent items in the Soul games but am remembering to use them this time when I need a boost to level up or something.
@Thrillho Oh yeah after my first attempt I just ran past them lol. But my first time in an area I always try to clear out the enemies.
I think it was either the jellyfish or Raya Lucaria Soldier spirit ashes. If you decide to go to Caria Manor next, I found the Avionette Soldier Ashes handy due to them throwing fire bombs.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
@R1spam sounds like you got to experience the fight as it was intended! At nearly double your level it was a lot more straight forward, and a lot less memorable!
Do you think the game (and the other Souls games) would be better without fog gates? Would be pretty interesting to never know when you’re about to walk into a boss encounter.
@kyleforrester87 I feel like with the stakes of Marika, if you left people's souls outside the boss arena you could definitely throw in a surprise boss without boss fog to mix things up. I'm sure I got hit with a surprise boss fight in Gael tunnel after opening a door but I might have just been unobservant!
I started Journey 2 (NG+) last night and just finished off Limgrave and Stormveil. It's amazing how many intricate lore details and the like I've picked up on knowing what I already know from having beaten the game once already. Even just my understanding from just watching the opening cutscene again was really backed up by my first playthrough. I've noticed myself paying waaaay more attention to NPC dialogue now to really try keep tabs on everything.
I started journey 2 last night too, after my 2nd time beating NG. Unfortunately I was obliterating everything. I beat Margit almost without using a flask, without any tactics just attack. Went through the front gate of stormveil and rolled right up to godrick and 1-shot him too. Hopefully it gets harder later, but I may give the game a rest for a while and play HFW and get the CP2077 plat.
