I just finished the Iki Island expansion main story. It was good, but disappointingly short. The story felt like it needed more time. I loved how we explored Jin’s Father’s death, but think the approach didn’t all make sense. The raiders are made out to be ruthless criminal that hurt and rob innocent people and have terrible punishments living under their own criminal law. By the end the it felt swept aside by them “fighting for the home and independence.” The independence to rob and murder others as a way of life.
Also, Jin wanted his father to be proud and it was mentioned that he may agree with him being the Ghost. He was a great man’s Jin was proud to have him be the father. Using the village massacre to say “Jin’s not his father” while working with murderous criminals painted in an overly positive light. The way Jin’s father handled things feels like how Jin handles the mongols, or should have leaned in that direction. That should have been more focused on than demonizing him out of nowhere.
I think Jin would want to finish his father’s work with the raiders after the mongols were done. We could decide to kill Jin’s uncle or not at the end of GoT, and we should have had a similar choice here.
As needed as working with the raiders to defeat the mongols is, their subjugation was just as important.
One of the people you duel with is called a “murderous merchant.” Thats someone to bring to justice, not someone you call a friend defending their home.
Thr ending felt unrealistic and desperately needed to build up to a player’s choice, not a linear acceptance of murders.
