What if Sony was interested in selling there company!. Or apple want to compete against Microsoft
If apple want to they could easily buy Sony or just the playation part

I mean they have enough money

That could happen!

No idea what Sony's finances are like, nor do I know anything about business acquisition, so can't really comment on anyone buying Playstation. Although I do hear rumours about Sega being bought which has me concerned (they're probably my favourite third party publisher, alongside Square-Enix).

In terms of new competitors in the console/platform market? I don't see Apple or anyone else getting established any time soon - simply because the big three (Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony) are all so well establish and, for once, are all doing so well. Usually when we've had other people come in the market's either been a lot more volatile (before the 2000s, for example, where we had a number of console manufacturers), or there's been a clear market opportunity (Sony excelled in home media and compact discs in the mid-90s with the Playstation; in the early 2000s Xbox basically took Sega's spot and was seen as a decent, powerful alternative to the market leader PS2).

I think a newcomer would really have to offer something that the competition aren't - i.e. fulfil some sort of niche. But even then, I think the established three are in a much better position to combat such a thing. We're seeing it already with Stadia and XCloud - cloud gaming being the niche, but with a collection of its own studios and a loyal following behind it, Microsoft has the clear upper hand here.

@Ridwaano I don’t know a great deal about Japanese business practices but I do know that the Japanese government don’t like the idea of their businesses (particularly their internationally renowned businesses) being bought by people/corporations/bodies outside of Japan.

Apple, Amazon, Facebook and Microsoft would all have sufficient funds... and they all seem to see the way in which the wind is blowing in terms of just how big gaming is becoming but they would all find buying Sony difficult faced with the levels Japanese interests would go to to prevent it from happening.

Microsoft wouldn't be allowed to take over Sony, as monopoly laws would prevent that from happening. Maybe if there was more strong competition in the market.

id like it. cali-sony is not japan-sony , so imo nothing would be lost . id prefer if sony got bought by a japanese corporation back in their homeland though.

Hopefully this never, ever happens. I fear that if someone else bought out the PS brand, they would decide to run it into the ground and kill it not long after. That happens with so many businesses these days.

Sony seems to take a great deal of pride in what they do, and its important to them to continue to be the best at it. And for the consumer, the more competition that there is in the market, the better it is for us as gamers.

What a horrible thought.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
