@Th3solution š
Sol Badguy is actually the main good guy in the game. And as much as the game is very well balanced otherwise, he āsuffersā from a bit of a āprotagonist syndromeā ššš
I mean, see here - the damage of my couple combos vs his literal one hit:
Iāve just installed The Last of Us 2 on PS5 in preparation for Monday morning. Will it automatically run at 60 fps, or will I need to manually select it from the options?
@colonelkilgore I think there was period when he seemed to be āsoft bannedā in tournaments. Some good players switched to other characters despite doing well with Sol for sure.
They slightly nerfed him in the last patch but heās still clearly the strongest - you donāt see him take 1st place in tournaments a lot though, most likely because heās the character everybody trains against the most
@colonelkilgore Enjoy! Luckily, the game has chapter selection (unlike the first) so mopping up collectibles on a second run is easy. You likely need to do a run and a half to get trophies for upgrading all gear but you unlock modifiers after completing the game once which make life a lot easier.
So due to the HZD sound issue on cut scenes I've turned my attention to FF7R. I had played through this section on the original FF7 but it was so long ago I can barely remember what happened. Really enjoyed the first hour, combat is unique, will take some getting used to. Can see why it's gotten so much praise already. Will stick with this now and come back to HZD another day.
Side note I was really happy to hear Badger from Breaking Bad voicing one of the characters!
@velio84 yeah Iāll check the various options and setting just to be sure š
@Thrillho yeah Iāve heard the platinum is a lot easier than the first gameā¦ havenāt decided what difficulty Iām gonna play it on yet. Iām kinda feeling obliged to play it on at least Hard as I just recently played the original on Survivor. Still, those easier difficulty temptresses could prove too alluring come Monday morning (itās for this reason that I will always beseech From Software to ignore the calls for an Easy mode š).
@NedStarksGhost This looks to be another situation like Returnal where I get a head start in front of you but youāll probably pass me by and finish before me. š
Itāll be fun to compare notes though. Iām about 7 hours in now and at Ch 4. Iām liking the game quite a bit too, although I have a few criticisms here and there. Overall itās definitely a really good game through.
And I didnāt realize there was a Breaking Bad actor in it. Itās been a while since I watched that show

@NedStarksGhost I thought Wedge sounded familiar. Heās actually my favorite character so far in the game, with regard to voice acting and overall scripting. Heās a tropey overweight comedic relief character but heās great. I liked Tifa a lot in the original game, and I still like her in this one too, just her voice isnāt quite what I was expecting. Actually Jessie is probably my second favorite. Sheās a huge flirt but I like her voice actress and line delivery and sheās pretty funny too. I feel like that VA has done a lot of anime or other gaming characters. I honestly donāt even remember her character from the original FF7. I remember Wedge and Biggs I think, but barely.
I forget, did you ever play the PS1 original?
āWe cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.ā
@Th3solution Fun fact - there are characters named Wedge and Biggs in every Final Fantasy starting with 4, with the exception of 9. They're named after a couple rebel pilots from the original Star Wars movie.
@Th3solution yeah I'm only on chapter 2 but the voice acting for Wedge was really good, in general it has been to be fair. Can't comment too much on favourites and stuff as only an hour in.
I did play it a fair bit, didn't finish it as my save file corrupted about half way into disc 2 I think and it never went back to it. Did you?
@Th3solution You are right about Jessie's voice actress. It's actually insane how much voice acting she's done for video games and anime, with a list that's even longer than "big name" ones like Jennifer Hale.
I thought the voice actress for Tifa did a solid enough job. The voice didn't register right away, but after looking her up while I was playing it I remember her from the Netflix series GLOW. I know maybe not a ton of people watched it, but she was the director's daughter on there.

Final Fantasy VII remake, what a game. I don't play many JRPGs but both that and Persona 5 are absolute bangers and I loved almost every second I spent with both games.
Continuing my playthrough of The Last of Us on Hard (ended up completing my first time on Easy!) and resources are so blooming scarce, can't even imagine how little you can find on an even harder setting. Had my time with Henry and Sam (š¢) and now met up with brother Tommy. Some scenes and encounters I remember but others I had forgotten including some harrowing stuff in the sewers. I was so low on pretty much everything by the time of the final battle before escaping into the suburbs, probably died 7 or 8 times before I noticed the door had opened behind me. Frustrating but still exciting.
@Voltan@JohnnyShoulder I knew about the Cidās appearing in all the games. Iāve played 7, 8, 9, 10, 10-2, 12, 13, and 13-2 and yet I never realized the Wedge/Biggs recurring gag. After a quick internet search, it looks like in a couple of the games they are barely even in the game like in 12 and 13 and just cameo or a small reference, so I donāt feel quite as stupid.
@NedStarksGhost Yes, I played and finished the original game a few years ago. Itās quite good as far as I remember, but gaming has evolved a lot since then. The materia system, which is the highlight of the original game, is well represented here in the Remake. The characters are the same, although without the voice acting. Also, the back stories and character development so far in the Remake is quite beyond anything done in the original. I like that, but Iām worried about how many installments it might take to tell the whole story.
@KilloWertz Iām adjusting to Tifa. I didnāt watch GLOW, but I think the VA seems competent enough. I really enjoy playing as her because her offensive speed feels so awesome.
@Th3solution She was probably my favorite character to play as the first time I played this (on the PS4 Pro. She's so much more powerful than most of the other characters, and like you said, really fast. Her Starshower ability was nuts.
In my recent second playthrough (this time on the PS5), I'd say she was probably still my favorite character, but I used Aerith a lot more too as I realized I neglected her abilities too much the first time around. It's also probably one major reason why Hell House was so easy for me the second time around, as I had a (no pun intended) hell of a time with that the first time.

@Th3solution just curious what you think about the blocking/dodging mechanics in the combat?
I feel like I'm not using them enough, and struggle to really know when. Maybe it's because I'm treating it more like an Action RPG rather than an RPG.
I think I'm hooked on Genshin Impact, pretty much played it all day, having fun just scaling mountains and taking photos, roaming around opening up the map.
