Replaying The Last of Us on PS5. No real discernable differences, other than the quick loading times, to the PS4 version but it's really cool coming back to this one having loved Part II.

I'm playing on Hard so noticed a real difference in the lack of resources, at one point I had three bullets and then none. A combination of stealth and blind luck, as well a lot of running, got me through the soldier patrols (one of my biggest headaches from my first playthrough).

Just got past the clicker and runners combo, died quite a bit whilst trying the stealthy approach. I'm sure some gamers took them all out one by one with a single shot to the head but not me!

I'm definitely more into it than I was during my first time, maybe I'm more hardened or perhaps enjoying the challenge more having recently played very different games in Final Fantasy VII and Mass Effect 2. Naughty Dog are an amazing developer, I really hope that they're not just working on this new multiplayer and Last of Us remake. Would love them to try their hand at a new single player IP.

@velio84 Oh Sekiro is one of my faves from last gen! There are always a few ways you can beat any of the bosses. I believe one of the ways with that troll I found easiest is you can stun him with your grapple hook at certain moments in the fight. And certain bosses you can sneak up on them a do a stealth attack, to get rid of one of their health bars.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

@velio84 Yeah you will soon get the hang of the combat and parrying. There is one move you unlock in one of optional missions, and it's a foot stomp on a spear to counter them. Feels so good when you get the timing right! Some of the later bosses though, damn those are tough!

I'm still going with Control and am still having good fun with it.

I recently got to a point where I unlocked the Altered World Event DLC and played through that rather than the main story. It ties the game into Alan Wake which I never played but read up on online.

The game incorporates it into the overall story really well and it's clever to see how that game is a small part of this overall world. The DLC itself is fine but maybe some if it was lost on me having not played AW. The whole setting is a lot darker than the main game but it uses this as a mechanic with you using your ability to levitate items to carry light sources around. The set pieces involving the main boss focus on this mechanic as well and work to good effect with some decent puzzle sections.

I picked up all the trophies for the DLC so it's back to the main story now. The multi-launch ability the DLC unlocks (picking up multiple items to throw at enemies rather than just the one you can do in the base game) is massively useful and the sticky bomb grenade launcher weapon is pretty great too!

In addition to The Last of Us (just met Bill)I have started Miles Morales. Playing it on Performance Mode but can see the difference in graphics from Spider-Man and obviously the improved framerate as well. Fun game and a good choice to bounce off of TLoU when I need something a bit more 'relaxing'.

@RogerRoger yeah I started it on Performance but changed to Performance RT. Noticed a slight difference but nothing mind-blowing, might be my TV though.

It's definitely a step up from Spider-Man which in replayed not that long ago. Talking about the graphics of course, Miles is okay but he's no Peter Parker!

Enjoyable game though, well worth playing if you liked the main game and a nice contrast to The Last of Us.

@Th3solution Yeah you'll definitely be loving Barrett by the end, especially since he has a cheat code called Marlene! So adorable anytime they interact haha. You'd be surprised, the PS4 version holds up very well and I actually think there was more improvement visually with FF7R than PS5 version of Ghost. Yeah I've never played on easy so I can't make any comments there but the combat and all the layers that accompany it can definitely be overwhelming. But I will tell you that blocking is SO much more reliable then dodging. There's little you can do to actually "avoid" damage in FF7R, blocking is your go to. I also didn't get on with FFXV, despite really really trying to like it. I wanted to like it so bad lol, but after about 6 hours I dropped it.

It's been a few days since you made this comment, where are ya now?

@TraCuz- I’ve only made a little more progress actually, but I’m warming up to the characters little by little. Marlene is pretty adorable. I’m in Ch. 4 I think it is. Herding cats, killing rats. running around town helping townsfolk for money and respect (Even though Cloud’s heart is clearly not in it).

The game is taking some getting used to, I’ll admit. And I honestly wasn’t expecting that. Other than Persona 5 —which just has a completely different aesthetic and is part visual novel, part JRPG, part life sim — this is the first JRPG I’ve played since… gosh, maybe Valkyria Chronicles 4. Well, I also played Trails of Cold Steel on Vita but never finished it. But either way it’s been a few years and so my mind hasn’t been exposed to the JRPG narrative and character style in a while. The game sort of fools you with the visuals looking so “Western” at times and less “anime-like” and so I think my brain is expecting the characters and storyline to follow more of a pragmatic or hardheaded narrative style of Western games whereas it’s still a JRPG and so it has the zany aspects and quirks which I’m having trouble reconciling with what I’m seeing on screen. I don’t mind the anime tropes, but hadn’t expected them. Like how Cloud is such a jerk but merely 4 hours into the game he has 3 pretty girls all throwing themselves at him even though he treats them all like dirt. 😅 I had the full harem in Persona 5 but it seemed to ‘fit’ better there, for lack of a better description.

I’m not sure if I’m making sense, but suffice it to say, I’m all in. It’s catching root. I plan to put in some hours today and later this weekend and I’ll update you.

@Th3solution Yes Cloud's heart wasn't in it and neither was mine xD, probably my biggest criticisms of FF7R are the side quests and level design. Ahh ok I guess I can see that, personally I didn't have as much of that off putting feeling since JRPGs are my main cup of tea. With that being said, even though I'm "desensitized" to it all Jessie still is a bit much - that girl is thirsty! I still like her character though. Glad to hear you're all in. How's combat coming along? You have any favorite abilities? Weapons? Materia combinations?

So playing HZD and it looks like some of the 30fps cut scenes have sound issues, in that there isn't any.

I've just come to a cut scene when you start the proving, and there was no sound. So I reloaded it hoping it was a one off and it wasn't. Looked online and it's a known issue it seems.

Quite disappointing really, and there's no way to revert to the PS4 version either. Hoping this is fixed ASAP.

colonelkilgore

@NedStarksGhost that’s a shame… is it something that has happened as an unexpected by-product of the 60 fps patch, or has it always been an issue?

@colonelkilgore byproduct of the patch, unfortunately. Probably going to hold off playing it for now until that's addressed.

@Voltan yeah, as I mentioned before I am not a fan of one-on-one fighting games but there is just something about Guilty Gear Strive that really appeals.

@NedStarksGhost ahh, I was gonna say… as I didn’t recall any issues back when I played it (in 2017). I agree, hold off as I’m sure they’ll patch it in short order… and it’s well worth the wait as the lore and narrative are very good 👍

@colonelkilgore yeah for sure, I've loved the world and stuff so far. I'm sure I'll find something else in my backlog to play...

@colonelkilgore I know a lot of people don’t agree but for me this is the best fighting game I ever played.
Does pretty much everything right. Except Sol Badguy. Please delete Sol Badguy.

@Voltan glad you’re enjoying… to my inexperienced fighting-game eyes it ‘looks’ the best to me too.

… and not sure what I can do about it… but I’ll certainly try and delete this ‘Sol Badguy’ for ya 😉

@Voltan @colonelkilgore Hoping I’m not this bad guy you all are trying to get rid of. 😅
