@Octane Our national animal is apparently the unicorn. Probably says a lot that our national animal is fictional. Should be a Greggs steak bake. Or chips and gravy.

@nessisonett the university debt burden is a scandal. I left in 2002 with a £17,000 debt (checking an inflation calculator that's exactly £27837) as I had to part pay my course prior to full self funding. I struggled mentally as the thought of it was horrendous and when does anyone have a grand or two spare from a working class background?

Our weekend administrator left Uni last year with £45,000 worth of debt. That figure is mindboggling to me. It's an absolute weight on her shoulders and I can't envisage how you can even start making inroads into such an amount at 23/24 in a 20k a year job without parental support.

@zupertramp Ironically I called for the initial lockdown way back when and I still think proper lockdowns are the best way to control the spread. I'm playing devils advocate trying to explain the odd behaviour we see in the wild.

@Octane same people who won't download the test and trace app, as they've seen a post on Facebook about how the government are tracking you. Oh the irony.

@RogerRoger, I feel a lot better today, so I think it was just a 24 hour bug. My father did something similar last weekend (though it didn't upset his stomach, so he just took it as a bad cold), and so thinks it's the same thing.

And that’s both my council area and wider Glasgow gone into Tier 4! Honestly, my mum’s lowkey chuffed with going onto three weeks furlough, she hasn’t had a holiday in a while and she wasn’t going to have one until Christmas. The money works out actually better for us as well, the 80% works out more than the 100% minus travel and food costs. People round here are idiots though, completely ignoring the advice and trying to get in one last spreader event before going into lockdown. If everyone just adhered to the rules then there wouldn’t need to be another lockdown, it’s just stupid.

Interesting to see that after several reports, NLife has deemed a user spreading literal misinformation about Covid perfectly OK. The user linked to a site that sells ‘supplements’ peddling several well-known and debunked alternative science about masks causing more harm than good. I know that site’s got outright bigots and chest-thumping Trump defenders coming out the wazoo but you’d think they would draw the line somewhere.

Father of 27 year old nurse who died recently from my area:

“It’s no joke. It’s no joke. I myself didn’t believe in it because working up north, we don’t wear masks in the drilling field. But here it’s different."

Lol, he didn't believe in it?! Like it's a ghost story, or some obscure religious tenet or freaking Santa Clause!

Truth is we had a chance to respond to this like rational adults. We really really did. Especially given the medical advances we've made since 1918 and given we're living in the information age. I mean, in the entire history of the human race we've never had more knowledge than we do right now. And we've still botched this.

So it's hard to hold too much a grudge toward NLife. But maybe just seeing the absolute zero fs given over Thanksgiving, my pessimism is at an all time high.

@zupertramp To be fair, I saw a video today of the most powerful man in the world sh*t himself live on air. We might have access to lots of information but if you only get it from one increasingly desperate source then it’s bound to be skewed.

@Arugula I wouldn’t say the UK have handled it well by any stretch of the matter but we do now sorta have functioning tiers. I have two weeks left in Tier 4, only essential shops open and no travel out of your council area. It makes sense, we really don’t need to go anywhere and we can still order online shopping. There are worse ways to handle the situation.

@nessisonett I have to be honest and admit I have no idea to what you're referring.

And this is just the one nurse dumb enough to post on the internet. At least she only works in oncology... 😱

@zupertramp I think the scary thing is that they brag about these things like it’s something to be proud of. Which is just plain batty.

@nessisonett It does seem to have that aspect to it, right? To me it's literally akin to bragging about not using condoms.

Any of you received the COVID vaccine yet? How is the vaccine being rolled out over there in the UK and Europe?
Just wondering what we have to look forward to in the US over the next few weeks

Th3solution

@JohnnyShoulder Ok, I had heard it was a limited initial intro of the vaccine; the article there says just 800K for now. I think the US rollout is going to be similar, as far as Healthcare workers and seniors are getting the first crack at it. I seemed to recall there was someone or another on here mentioned they worked in healthcare and so wondered if they got the vaccine yet in this first release.

It is ironic how the vaccine rollout seems to be paralleling the PS5 launch 😄. There is going to be a scarcity of supply for a while unable to meet the demand. (Only I suspect there won’t be hoarding by scalpers of the vaccine to profit off of the secondary market 😅)

JohnnyShoulder

@Th3solution You say that, but there has been warnings that gangs might try to get hold of it and sabotage the transit of the vaccine. Which has been reported of happening with the new consoles too.
