@moatclunk There are lies dam lies and statistics. The numbers might be interesting but it’s a mistake to believe they are in any way accurate. Three weeks is a long time for a disease outbreak like this so predictions of what will happen a few months down the line are likely to be fairly worthless.

I know most of the surprises have been nasty one so far but many people are studying the new coronavirus so we may get better at either containing it or treating those who are sick.

@moatclunk I’m fairly certain this thread was a joke thread for a good few weeks. I don’t think many of us really have done our research as it’s a gaming forum and we’re just here to comment on our bunkers with our PS4 and crates of Mountain Dew and Doritos.

Worrying about it and coming up with fictional doomsday scenarios ultimately isn't helpful. Stock up on supplies, encourage people in your community to practice good hand-washing habits, engage in those yourself, and... er... go about your life like normal. Humanity has been surviving diseases and plagues for thousands of years. It won't be fun, but COVID-19 isn't going to topple the world order.

@Ralizah I think @kyleforrester87 was actually making a really hurtful comparison to a potato and being an Irish Catholic Scot, I consider this hugely offensive to my people 😉

@kyleforrester87 I do appreciate how you used the right “you’re” at least. Apparently scientists and epidemiologists don’t study grammar.

@moatclunk, for someone whom is supposedly all about facts & numbers, you seem to be striking an unnecessary fear mongering tone.

1. No disease ever infects 100% of the population. As you can see from the below sources (which are from individuals/organizations far more knowledgeable on this sort of stuff than any of us likely are), even the flu (which we don't try to contain nearly as aggressively) only infects 20% of the population each year (in the US at least) at the maximum estimates.

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/keyfacts.htm

Plus, even considering that more people may get COVID-19 because it's new to humans (and a bit more contagious), the experts agree that 70% infection would be worst case scenario, more likely around 40%. Not exactly good news mind, but not what you're suggesting.

2. While further mutation is likely, and it appears to have already happened once, a more deadly strain is unlikely. While abnormalities such as the 1918 flu happen, in general, once a virus gets used to a new host & perfects how to infect it, it generally gets less deadly because it goes against it's evolutionary advantage to kill off the host population. In fact, it appears a new strain of COVID-19 may have already materialized.

Believe me, I'm a germaphobe who is terrified of getting this, but we need to keep a level head.

@moatclunk You know, coming in here and started to call people stupid isn't a good way to join a community. If you knew the context of what's going on here, you'd know that Kyle here is a jokster. A rather funny one at that. Frankly, his response you was hilarious while you just continued to call him stupid without a thought in the world. Thinkin Crona is dangerous is fine, but there's no reason not be civil about it. After, being civil will help us all not have mass panic and hysteria about the end of the world. One guy starts shouting, another does, then before you know it everyone is panicking and it's 2012 again.

@moatclunk just to point out, you started being an ass by introducing yourself on this forum with:

“ It's absolutely hilarious reading through these old comments saying "oh corona virus isn't even a threat. stop panicking." Especially you Kyle Forrester lmao”

If you want me to show you and your opinions some respect, try offering a little yourself first.

The truth is, no one really knows diddly squat about what is really going to happen over the coming months with this outbreak. We can project, but it is based on cases in different countries where reporting is inconsistent, where socio economic factors have a part and political structures won't allow truth telling.

I'm a born pessimist but even I know that this is going to be an inconvenience to the majority and yes, serious for the few.

Also this thread is interesting because we all live across the world and our experience (and reporting) is going to be different and it is good to talk about things in a civilised manner.

As an update from my side, I've already reached out to @kyleforrester87 to see if he will join my milita as chief lieutenant when we emerge from our bunkers and try to reclaim the remnants of society. It's got to be more fun than Fallout 76 AMIRITE?

Also ignore trolls.

@mookysam Ha ha - amazing. I mean, I was well prepared for this after watching 28 Days Later. The first thing I did after seeing Covid-19 spreading was go to the local zoo and smash the monkeys in with a brick since I don't want them spreading rage. Probably their fault in China too. People are too lenient with monkeys.

The boss of the Who is saying what I was saying a few days ago. Common sense has failed to prevail.

Send everyone home for 2 weeks and close up, give 3 days notice and go for it. No one is to travel other than highly important roles (doctors, police, fire brigade etc). Lock the infected down. Coronavirus is everywhere now, we are waiting to be infected. Absolutely crazy.

@themcnoisy It’s gunna be around for the rest of the year and then some mate, get used to it!

It’s funny because I see Facebook UK has closed for 2 days over the weekend. Okay 🤷‍♂️ What’s that going to do exactly? Either burn the place to the ground or carry on as usual - what’s 2 days off going to do exactly?

@KratosMD You’d think instant news would make people more afraid of global threats. If we were in the 1900s, we’d have to wait for the news to reach half the world before any action was taken.

If it were the early 1900's it would have barely got out of China. I'm not saying it's not slightly worrying but with 100k known cases and around 3k deaths out of 7 billion people it's not exactly rampaging through nations. Plain old flu is killing far more but people are getting bent out of shape because mainstream media is pumping out fear porn. When millions are dying it might be time to be actually worried.
