I’m also playing FF14. I’m afraid what I might have started. Started it up in the morning & clocked up 9 hours already... .

The weird thing is it’s just a bunch of busy work at the min. The main narrative is just buried under mountains of quests(although I’m definitely intrigued). However, most of these quests are usually within the same area/region so I’m almost always working towards something. I think that’s what’s been gripping me. Haven’t dabbled with the MMO aspect too much, as I’ve been mostly playing solo trying to get used to the controls, but it seems like a good community.

I’m still not sure if I’m going to stick with it, but it’s a nice game to just kill some time with.
Also I was really impressed with how stable the game was. Not once did my game crash or did I experience lag & I’ve got terrible internet.

@Fight_Teza_Fight I played over 80 hours in 2 weeks and then completely burned out last year. I should really play Heavensward 😂

@nessisonett I could definitely see that happening to me. Just gobbling up quest after quest & before you know it, it’s 1am😂.

@Fight_Teza_Fight Yeah, it’s a great game but man, it’s easy to burn out.

I haven't played Final Fantasy XIV for ages. I'm still paying for it though I think. Absolute madness.

So I’ve gotta couple of questions about FF14.
I’ve tried to look online, but I’m still confused. So hopefully someone knows.
How do I apply my rested bonus?
Apparently you just log out in sanctuary but mine still there. Got like 1lvl worth of exp.

Also is there a point to learning more than 1 class?
I’m pretty happy with the gladiator & finished the training. Don’t see the point of going back to a lvl1 quest & class.
I assume those skills are non-transferable between the other classes.

@Fight_Teza_Fight Basically, learn every job. There’s not much transferable but you’ll want to have a few on the go so that you can fulfil each role in case of emergencies. Plus the stories are really good for each of them. I’m a Bard but I’ve also been messing around with other classes because there comes a point where it’s a waste of XP to do sidequests on your main class as it’s too high a level to see any benefits.

@nessisonett Thanks! I guess I’ll look out for a class I’d like to try & leave the low level quests for now.

Just defeated Gilgamesh at the first attempt, both times you meet him. 💪The trophy popped just as PSN went down, so hopefully it didn't fudge up, but I did save just before so not a massive problem. I love the bit when he sneaks back and pinches the sword back! 😆

I'm finding that most of these later Hunts/Esper fights can be slightly trivialised if you have the right equipment on, nullifying one or some of their attacks which inflict negative status effects on your party. Then it is just a case of endurance and making sure you have gambits set up for topping up HP and MP.

Trying to get to Ultimia in FFXII, and jeez the 2nd part if the crystal is damn confusing. And I'm following a map! I'm close to giving up and just finishing the game as I'm beginning to not look forward to play the game. Which is not a good sign.

Imagine doing it without the double speed like I did all those years ago with the base PS2 version @JohnnyShoulder!

Going for the final Esper or you going for the end instead?

@JohnnyShoulder What's up man, how would you recommend FFXII to a first timer? Worth going back to? Are the mechanics still fun? How are the story and characters?

Ha ha it's JohnnyShoulder's first time playing it to so you definitely asked the right person such questions @TraCuz-

I know I said yesterday in the "What You Playing This Weekend" article I might take you up on yor offer to play FFXIV together sometime...

... But I just realised you're the US and I'm from the UK... Isn't it only people from the same regions and eben the same world server... thingy tjat can play together? (I honestly have no clue, I've still barely got used to all the stuff that game throws at you, especially with being my first MMO) 😅

Oh my, if you had balls I would expect they would be aching @Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy! 😆 Double (and quadruple) speed has been a god send in this game, especially in places where there are no means to fast travel close by. Not sure if I could face playing a similar game without it now!

@TraCuz- Yo dude, yeah it is my first time playing XII. Reading up about it before I started, I believe it changed a few thing up from the normal FF formula, like no random battles for instance.

I like the characters in the game, even warmed to Vaan and Penelo eventually. My only slight is that I wish there were more non-humanoid characters in your party, with only Fran the non-hume. You get the odd hunter in your team briefly with you for a few hunts who aren't human, but that is about it.

The story is more political than I'm used to from a FF game (although this is only my sixth, if you seperate VII and VIIR). It is OK, but not up there with the my favourites as there too much going from one mcguffin to the next for my liking.

The job system is ace as you are free to mix and match two opposing classes if you so wish. Summons you are free to put with whichever character too, but I've found them largely ineffective in boss fights, same with quickening too. Cool to look at though.

I was a bit disillusioned with JRPGs after not enjoying most of I played on PS4, with only VIIR standing out for me. Not that I played a great deal of them previously either. But after really enjoying XII, I'm kinda a bit more enthusiastic of trying some more out.

And that is the Behemoth King defeated. It certainly was a behemoth! I dunno, found this one a bit boring. It seemed to go on forever and it didn't do anything that exciting like a fancy special move. Mind you I did start with my B team with no buffs, so that would have prolonged the fight.

It was also one of those hunts which requires you to do certain things, and one of the enemies I had to kill disappeared and didn't respawn until after a few attempts. Which then meant I had kill all the enemies in the other area again. Some of the hunts are good idea in theory to try and change things up bit, but when they glitch out or just take an age to appear, it becomes a bit of a drag.

Ha you know how to make a woman smile @JohnnyShoulder

I completely forgot there was a quadruple speed function! Only remembered the double speed toggle from when I started TZA 3 years back? Really should get back on that... Just unfortunately got distracted by other things at the time!

I agree with a lot of your thoughts above of FFXII (It was my second FF I think) from what I recall.

Actually quite liked the general outline of the plot and the whole political angle of it all myself. The stuff with Occuria(?) was pretty neat too I thought. but I agree the whole going after the macguffins of what the cast actually does themselves throughout is a bit lacklustre.

Voice acting is pretty top-notch for the entire cast (I honestly don't think there's a weak link at all there). The lack of non humans in the main cast was a bit disappointing. Hell I woulda took a belligerent Ba'Gamnan temporarily working with the party or something especially with Vaan and Penelo feeling a bit like wasted space in the party (Though they aren't too bad either like you say).

It also has a fantastic world in Ivalice and beautiful art direction... I'm sure the original PS2 version still looks pretty great because of that 😄

@JohnnyShoulder Thanks for your input! I may or may not play down the line. Haha oh how I wish I could go back to the days when I could endlessly sink time into any game.

On the topic of JRPGs my next recommendations to you would be Persona 5 Royal and NieR Automata. The Tales series is good too, Tales of Beseria is like $10 right now. A new Tales games is coming this year and it looks phenomenal, Tales of Arise. I was also looking at Scarlet Nexus the combat looks flashy but in all the trailers they show the enemies don't look challenging so I'm gonna wait for reviews.
