@Thrillho First listen of that Rival Consoles track and it's typically them, sounds really punchy. Really like it! Thanks for the recommend on Tourist, I'll have a listen.
Found a channel that recreates electronic music like Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Kid A-era Radiohead using Super Mario 64’s soundfont. Weirdly works.
That new Muse album is spectacularly bad. Even by their standards. It's bad at everything. The heavy songs are bad. The pop songs are bad. The Halloween song is bad bad bad. The lyrics are bad. The music is bad. Even the cover is bad. There's nothing about it that's not bad.
@johncalmc It got a rare ‘not good’ from Fantano which usually says a lot. I don’t agree with all the guy’s opinions but when he can’t even put a number on how bad an album is, then it’s never a good sign. “The most embarrassing rock album in recent memory” is a strong claim given that latest Green Day album. Means it joins the ranks of classics such as Kid Rock’s Bad Reputation, Danzig Sings Elvis, Nostalgia Critic’s The Wall and Corey Feldman’s Angelic 2 The Core.
@nessisonett It's surprisingly bad, I have to say. They've always been pushing the boundaries of taste and decency but at least they had the occasional tune you could get into, or at least one that would make you laugh at the sheer audacity of it. This one sounds like you asked an A.I. to make a Muse album.
@Thrillho I saw Penguin Cafe a few years back when they played Birmingham Town Hall. It was amazing to see them play live and made me appreciate how tight they play together and how deeply layered their music is. I've not seen Rival Consoles live before so that will be first but love his music. I'm hoping my wife enjoys the evening as much as I do now.
@johncalmc@nessisonett You are making me want to listen to it just to see how bad it really is, I mean it can't be as bad as all that surely!
@render It starts with a song that rips off The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson, in the middle is a rotten new wave monster stomper that rips off the spoken word bit from Thriller, and then it ends with a song called "We are F***ing F***ed" which sounds like it's going to be a riot based on the name alone but it's actually just a pretty bog standard rock song about climate change or something with some naughty words in.
Absolutely gutted about Pharaoh Sanders passing away. I know he was old but he proved only last year with Promises that he still had so much to give. Easily one of the greatest tenor saxophonists of all time.
