How do you upgrade from PS4 to PS5 in Cyberpunk 2077? The new-gen version of CD Projekt REDs sci-fi role-playing release is available on the PlayStation 5 now, but if you previously purchased the game on the PS4 then you may be wondering how to upgrade from PS4 to PS5. As part of our Cyberpunk 2077 guide, we're going to explain all the steps you need to take to upgrade from PS4 to PS5.
Cyberpunk 2077: How to Upgrade from PS4 to PS5
If you already own Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4, then you'll be able to upgrade your game to PS5 for free. It's fairly straightforward, and won't take you too much time. If you don't currently have any version of the game installed, then from the PS5 dashboard, go to Game Library and then Your Collection. Find Cyberpunk 2077 and select it.
A popup will appear asking which version you want to view. Select PS5 and then click Download. Follow the steps and choose Download PS5 Version. The game will then begin downloading to your console. At the time of writing, it's about 56GB in size.
If you already have the PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 installed on your console, then simply select it from the PS5's main menu and click the ... icon. Select View Product and then Select Version. You can then choose the PS5 version and begin downloading it. Remember, if you own Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 Blu-ray, then you'll need to insert the disc to upgrade, and keep it in your console at all times when you want to play the PS5 version.
Cyberpunk 2077: Is the PS4 to PS5 Upgrade Free?
Yes, if you've already purchased Cyberpunk 2077 for PS4, then upgrading to the PS5 version is completely free. You can find a full list of other free PS4 to PS5 upgrades through the link.

Just to confirm (I can't see how it wouldn't be): the free upgrade is also available for those who have the PS4 disc rather than digital download? And it's it the usual thing of having to keep the disc in the console to play?
Doing it now, I'm so pumped to finally dive into this game. After playing the initial tutorial mission I decided to stop and wait for the PS5 version. It's been a looong wait. My question is, can I delete my PS4 version after the PS5 version is downloaded?
@theheadofabroom Yes, you need to keep your PS4 disc and have it in the system every time you want to play the PS5 version. This is what I have to do to.
@theheadofabroom thats correct yes. Im upgrading my copy now. I used the data disc
@cpalmer1184 @Danloaded Thanks guys, I assumed as much, but given it doesn't say in the article, I thought it best to get it near the top of the comments for other readers.
@theheadofabroom Yep, for Blu-ray copies put the disc in and select the upgrade from the game icon. You'll need to keep the disc in your console to play.
I followed all the steps,no popup to download the ps5 version for me,its just downloading update 1.51.Does it matter that I have the disc version????
Nevermind just saw sammys comment now,lol.
I don’t understand. I have the blueray collectors edition installed.
I don’t get any option to ”view version” when i view product.
I don’t see any version other than the already installed ps4 anywhere….
I have owned the game since its release. Tried to Install the ps5 upgrade, but i can only get the trial version for free, the full game is 25 euro. How do i get the full game for free?
Does it matter which disc you put in?
@Sully_06 i’ve tried both the data and the play discs and i dont see any difference. Cant see a way to get the ps5 version
@Nellos Same problem here. Noway I can select the PS5 version
@Nellos Same, i only get the free trial. Need to pay for full game, which i'm not going to do. Annoying... been waiting for 2 years. Not gonna pay another 25 euros for the same game.
So do we seriously have to go through the hassle of installing both ps4 discs to then download upgrade to PS5 version?
@tomn050 exactly same here, i am having the option to choose between playing the ps5 trial or ps4 disc version
There is always issues with these ps4 to ps5 upgrades. Maybe it is region based at the moment
@Chaelow I did that, but i cannot get the ps5 version for free.
I really hate the way PS5 handles cross-gen upgrades. Have they never tried an Xbox?
@abdallasokar With me it was already installed. Even didn't get the option to switch versions. Uninstalled it, re-installing as we speak...
@abdallasokar Maybe we'll we have to wait a bit, idk. Would be very strange if only people that bought the digital version could get the free upgrade. Maybe some country's got the roll out earlier, idk.
@tomn050 oh I thought that was the solution. Then there doesn’t seem to be a way for us to get it?
@Chaelow I have no clue. Other people do get it, but some don't. So maybe it's region based. I've installed the game, uninstalled and installed again. Didn't work. I'm in the Netherlands.
@tomn050 Same problem here in Belgium
Yeah, I'm not getting the upgrade offer neither. Disc version & Finland.
Ye I'd imagine there is a delay in some regions
it is actually region based, i added my second account which is the same region as my disc and i can now see the free upgrade option
@abdallasokar My game and account are from the same region, so that isn't it for me.
@abdallasokar i’m in Sweden.
If there is some region based lock then this is a new example of poor communication between cdpr and sony playstation.
I dont get it. This shouldnt be so hard… get with the program! Both parties. This hurts everyone.
@Nellos is both your account and disc region 2 ?
I’m in NL too. Disc version. No upgrade available.
@abdallasokar how do i check this?
@abdallasokar i meant that it depends on what country you live in. Not the version of the game. But weird that you got it now lol. I still don’t have it 😅
I got a second hand disc here in europe but my PSN account and PS5 are set in USA, Does that means I won't be able to upgrade?
Save transfer and auto pop trophies so I can carry on? Never finished it before but may now
Also netherlands. Also no dice.
Gotta buy that PS4 physical disc now.
@tomn050 i obviously got nothing
Sweden. Just Trial. No upgrade😥
Update: I did not find the work around.
This game is doomed.
@Skyfighterdk tried that and nothing
From Portugal, physical version.
@Skyfighterdk, edit: you are right.
From Sweden and found this…below.
Note. I have a Swedish account and version CUSA16579…that is for Sweden…
…and all of the rest of you in the thread with problems, Denmark, Netherlands, Portugal, Finland etc.

I gave up and bought the damn thing.. now its downloading the right version. Clicking download on trial page will do nothing but download trial version. Look to the right of ps5 ver. box it says TRIAL.
@Nellos the back of the disc box will show a number beside a sympol for earth, this will be the region of the disc, your account region will depend on the country you chose when you created your account, for example most Europe is region 2, USA is region 1
How can they not get things right anymore, what the hell happened to cd man
Finally found out how to download it after reading all the comments I have the disc version btw. So you definitely need the data disk and insert it and on the ps5 a small window appears when your on the ps5 home screen with cyberpunk and it was on the right of screen before I selected start game saying free ps5 upgrade and now I selected it finally downloading
@Killa_adz Which country are you in?
England, I also did download the demo version first and cancelled it to see if it would work that way and after trying that I put data disk In and that's when then price on the side window on the cyberpunk home screen went to free
@Killa_adz probably its the Demo too. There’s a glitch: after you’ve downloaded the demo version once, the word ‘demo’ disappears from the downloads, but it is still the demo. Although I hope for you its the real game.
It's definitely very strange because I was still able to buy the game if I wanted to but I know it worked when I clicked on the window to the right it replaced start game for a picture of a disc and came up with a confirmation that I was downloading the ps5 version for free then took me to the psn store and it changed the price to free and then it downloading so it's definitely the full game as it's now finished downloading (I'm blessed with fast internet) it's full game hopefully this works for some of you
@Killa_adz great! But unfortunately that small window never popped up anywhere. So. I’ve send a mail to cd, hope they reply soon. I realized that this morning I didn’t knew the update was coming and this evening I find myself franticly rushing to install this asap. Something went wrong there. So decided to relax about it, it will probably work sooner or later. Just like the whole game did. (But still, the clock is ticking… Elden Ring)
@AlesXXVI
I'm Dutch aswell, you have to reinstall the game. That worked for me.
I've played some for a bit and it feels like the frame rate is really bad with ray tracing turned on looks great tho it's a shame so looks like going to have to play in performance mode and before when some streets was empty with pedestrians now it's like a flood of people for no reason lol
So could the "trial" version include the entire game and be unlocked when the disc is inserted!? Probably just wasting 55 gigs of bandwidth.
Smart delivery sounds so nice right now.
To the guys talking about the region/account issue, that’s exactly what’s up. From the projekt red site:
“ For disc owners in order to download the Next Gen update the CUSA (PlayStation code) from your disc has to match your PlayStation account region.”
My CUSA doesn’t match my account, because i’m Italian and I buy my games in England. Always have, never a problem. Until now.
Seriously, at this point it’s like they are doing it on purpose to piss us off. Two damn years of shame and now they pull this *****.
There’s a nice “CONTACT US” button on the following link, I suggest you all take the time to write a couple of friendly words to projekt red. I know I did.

@TommyNL Didn’t work
So I have ps5 digital version, when I upgraded it upgraded the PS4 version I have but also downloaded the ps5 version which works fine but can I delete the PS4 version now? I hate having two versions at almost 60gigs each… but didn’t know if it needed both to run the ps5 version…? Don’t know why it would but don’t wana delete ps4 version and have to download again…
@cladinshadows I don't know whether you need it to transfer your saves, but once that's done you should be free to delete the PS5 version
The free upgrade showing up now.
It's working for me now in Ireland
I can download the full ps5 version for free now.
Im in Netherlands and was also able to upgrade to PS5 version finally. I was playing the ps4 version on my ps5, now I started the ps5 version and my save game cannot be imported. It says its corrupted.... This has been such a journey of dissapointments I dont know if im able to handle anymore.
