Which class should you pick in Demon's Souls? Class determines your role at the beginning of the game, as well as your starting attributes, equipment, and more. Selecting your class is an important decision, as it will determine your playstyle at the beginning of the game, and also influence the kind of character you'll become later in the campaign. In this Demon's Souls guide, we're going to explain each class in the game, what the various attributes mean, and also provide some advice on which class you should select. For more information, refer to the following: Demon's Souls: Which Starting Gift Should You Pick?
Demon's Souls: All Classes
There are 10 classes to pick in Demon's Souls, and they are: Soldier, Knight, Hunter, Priest, Magician, Wanderer, Barbarian, Thief, Temple Knight, and Royalty. In the first part of our guide, we're going to explain everything you need to know about each class in the game to help you make an informed decision over which to select.
Picking a class will alter your attributes, but it can be difficult to understand what all of these numbers mean considering they're all given ambiguous names. Below, we've included an explanation of what each attribute does in the game:
- Vitality increases your maximum HP and Item Burden, which means you can take more damage in combat and carry more items at once.
- Intelligence increases your maximum MP and Spell Memory Slots, which refers to how many spells you can cast at once, with the maximum being six.
- Endurance increases your Stamina, Equipment Burden (effectively encumbrance), Poison Resistance, and Bleed Resistance.
- Strength increases your physical defence and increases the attack damage of weapons that scale with Strength.
- Dexterity increases your physical defence and increases the attack damage of weapons that scale with Dexterity.
- Magic increases your spell damage and increases the attack damage of weapons that scale with Magic.
- Faith increases your Miracle Power, Magic Defense, Blessed weapon damage, and Miracle Memory, which refers to how many Miracles you can cast at once, with the maximum being four.
- Luck increases item drop rates and also Plague Resistance.
- Soul Level is effectively your Experience Level, which you'll upgrade at the Maiden in Black.
Depending on how you want to play the game and which equipment you want to use, you'll want to select a class that maximises the potential of your personal build. If you're new to the game and you're still not sure how you want to play, then we recommend just absorbing the information on this page and then using it to make informed decisions when you're in the game.

Demon's Souls: Which Class Should You Pick?
So, which class should you pick in Demon's Souls? Well, all of the options are viable, depending on how you want to play. If you're a beginner and looking for the easiest introduction to Demon's Souls, then we'd recommend you choose either Royalty or Temple Knight. Both come with excellent attributes and Starting Equipment which should help to ease you into the game's notoriously brutal world.
If you're not sure how you'd like to play yet and want a bit more flexibility, then the Knight is a fairly rounded option that can evolve however you want it to. And if you just want to attack enemies with raw power — but aren't yet prepared for the challenge of the Barbarian — then we'd recommend you go with the Soldier. Experiment, have fun, and above all else try not to die.
Which Demon's Souls class did you pick? Are you starting as Royalty or a Barbarian? Check out our Demon's Souls guide, and let us know in the comments section below.
