How Many Idunn Apples Are There in God of War?
There are a total of 9 Idunn Apples to find and collect in God of War. Once you’ve opened the rune chest with one of these inside, it’ll automatically be added to your inventory.
How Do You Open Rune Chests in God of War?
To open the rune chests which contain Idunn Apples in God of War, you need to find three seals with symbols on them. In most cases you'll simply need to smash these with your axe, but some of the chests are tied to timed challenges, where you'll need to ring three bells in quick succession to open them up.
All Idunn Apples Locations
All 9 God of War Idunn Apple locations are included below:
Region | Idunn Apple Locations |
---|---|
Wildwoods | Shortly after the first combat encounter in the game, you'll reach small temple-like environment with three exits. Directly in front is a wooden board obscuring a small cavern. The rune chest is inside. |
The River Pass | The second Idunn Apple is shortly after the first Revenant fight, in the area where you need to throw your axe to drop the bridge. The rune chest is at the back of the room, opposite the bridge. |
Foothills | In the area with the Brenni Daudi troll, this is a timed challenge where you need to hit three bells with your axe. Be swift with your throws and you'll unlock the rune chest in no time at all. |
Lake of Nine | Go to the Lookout Tower boat dock towards the south of the Lake of Nine. It's roughly around the area where the bridge from Tyr's Temple joins the edge of the lake. There's another timed challenge here; just ring all three bells quickly to open the rune chest and grab your fourth apple. |
Forgotten Caverns | For our money, this is the best Idunn Apple puzzle in the game. You'll find it in the Forgotten Caverns, in the northwestern area of the Lake of Nine. Travel to it via boat. Essentially the three runes are attached to a tower, and hitting one will cause the other two to spin around. You need to hit all three as they rotate; start at the top and work your way down. |
Alfheim | It's right at the beginning of the Ringed Temple Trench. There's a puzzle involving a platform which you need to lower by turning a large circular cog-like switch. You'll need to set the platform to different heights in order to find all the runes to open the chest with the Idunn Apple inside. |
The Mountain | It's shortly after you unlock shock arrows, you'll happen upon some Frost Draugr and a bridge entangled in red vines. Use tree sap and Atreus' shock arrows to detonate everything, and look for the runes. Detroy them to open the chest. |
Light Elf Outpost | The Light Elf Outpost is just north of Tyr's Temple in the Lake of Nine; the chest is pretty easy to see. Explore every nook and cranny of this island for the runes; the first is behind the chest, the second is on the outer ring of the stronghold, while the last is on a pillar at the top of the outpost. |
Tyr's Vault | In the area inside Tyr's Vault where there are booby traps with spiked platforms that move horizontally, there are three runes to destroy. Smash them all to open the final chest and maximise your health. |
