Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is a standalone, original take on the popular Marvel IP for PlayStation 5 and PS4. It is a third-person action-adventure game from Eidos Montreal. We awarded the game an 8/10 in our Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy PS5 review, describing it as "an incredibly enjoyable and very funny title". At the time of writing, the game is also available to play through Xbox Game Pass.
In this Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy guide, we're going to share our beginner's tips and tricks to help you save the universe from a new threat. We're also going to reveal the locations of all collectibles, including Outfits and Guardian Collectibles. This page will also include a Trophy guide, revealing all Trophies and how to get the Platinum.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Guide: All Collectibles
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy has a few different types of collectibles, with all of them trackable in the menu accessed by pressing the touchpad. A compendium documents the characters, items, and locations you visit while outfits can be viewed by clicking on each of the five Guardians. You can also view Guardian Collectibles in the former.
- Outfits are stored in boxes with a purple screen on the front. Hidden throughout most chapters, interacting with them unlocks a new skin for one of the five Guardians. You can then equip the Outfit for the character to wear during gameplay and cutscenes.
- Guardian Collectibles are unique objects you can pick up in the environment that relate to a specific Guardian. Once you've picked them up and you're onboard the Milano, head to the character's quarters and you'll trigger a conversation with them that explores their backstory.
- Galactic Compendium Entries track all of the characters, factions, creatures, places, items, and archives in the game. The vast majority of these categories will be filled in automatically as you progress through the game. Guardian Collectibles fall under the items category while the text logs you pick up in chapters can be found in the archives section.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Guide: Tips and Tricks for Beginners
Many different difficulty options ensure Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy isn't a particularly tough experience as you can set the game to the correct difficulty for you. However, there are some universal tips and tricks we would share with all players. Ensure you're properly prepared to save the galaxy by reading through them all.
Use Star-Lord's Abilities Too
Since the vast majority of the Guardians' abilities are activated by holding L1 and then selecting from any one of the four characters, it can be easy to forget that main character Star-Lord has his own set of skills too. Hold down the left thumbstick and then select from one of his exclusive powers to turn the tide of a battle. Spend skill points in the pause menu to unlock even better abilities for Star-Lord.
Buy the Visor Upgrade to Highlight Components
Star-Lord's visor is vital for picking up on environmental clues for puzzles, but it's worth upgrading the device further at a workbench so you can also highlight components. These pickups can then be spent on even better perks for your blasters, so knowing where components are ahead of time will make your life easier. There's also the possibility of a collectible nearby too.
Play in Performance Mode
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy looks awesome in quality mode, but combining 30 frames-per-second with such an action-packed just isn't going to work. When you get the chance, we recommend heading into the options and switching to performance mode for that sweet 60 frames-per-second. Combat will feel so much smoother as a result.
Not Everything Is as It Seems
We don't want to give away any spoilers, but there are some chapters in the game that don't exactly take place in the realms of reality. You'll recognise them when you encounter them and during these sections, you shouldn't subscribe to the laws of common sense. If you're caught up in a combat scenario that's seemingly repeating itself over and over again, maybe look at the dialogue options you're picking and have a rethink.
And that brings our Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy guide to a conclusion. We hope you found it useful, whether that's through finding collectibles or unlocking Trophies. If you have any further tips or tricks to share, feel free to post them in the comments below.
