Sony has confirmed that PlayStation Vita firmware version 1.8 will finally add PSone support to the handheld. Unfortunately, the manufacturer failed to share any specific time scale for the update’s release.
The company previously claimed that PSone support would be added at some point this summer. We suppose there are still a few weeks left, eh?

If nothing else, it'll be interesting to see just how bad these look on the Vita screen natively. it's pretty shocking over Remote Play, but that's not really saying much.
@KALofKRYPTON Haha, it'll definitely look better than Remote Play.
I, for one, feel disappointed that the Remote Play did not live to the hype. The lack of it on PS3 games feels like false advertising.
@Savino
I think it's quite deliberate. And Remote Play could damage Sony far more than the WiiU.
The technology is there to develop Remote Play, as it always has been to emulate PS2 games, that much is obvious.
Now Imagine a world in which our Vitas could do Remote Play as we all want them to, seamless streaming of everything on our PS3s so long as we have a solid internet connection- so, pretty much anywhere we might take a handheld. Would you buy any full Vita games? Perhaps, but not many. I know I probably wouldn't. i'd be streaming Resistance 3 instead of plodding through Burning Skies, flying around in Dark Void, shooting up the place in Soldner-X 2 and so on . . .
While it would no doubt shift Vitas, there'd be next to no software sales.

Sony will push far beyond what WiiU is capable of if they're smart. They only need to push developers to use the cross play/controller feature possible with PS3 and Vita. The LBP Vita/2 demo level shown at E3 proves how well it could work. The WiiU tab only streams audio and video from the console, taxing the system along the way (2 WiiU controllers reportedly halves the system framerate)- the Vita can process it's own content so can potentially achieve far more than the WiiU.
There are good sceptical arguments coming from Microsoft and Sony regarding the viability of constantly switching view between controller and TV, but that will come down to the requirements of the game.
As I've said before, if Aliens: Colonial Marines on the PS3 ran with Move support and cross controller compatibility I'll rig up my Vita to my Sharpshooter and enjoy every minute of it.

Oh yeah I'm sure it will, but having tried playing many a PS1 game on my Xperia Play the overriding experience is one of very dated, dull and dark graphics displayed at resolutions they were never designed for. Even late stuff like WipEout3 looks horrid. It's one of gaming life's kicks in the teeth that emulated 16 bit games look a lot 'better' for the change in hardware than their 32 bit successors.
I just think there comes a point at which to let go.
Unless of course, they rerelease Colony Wars
Finally, PS1 support. Not that I care, I have a PSP Go and a Xperia Play...but good news nonetheless!
I just wished they would've told us the release date. Too much teasing from Sony.
Bring on Metal Gear Solid 1
@KALofKRYPTON: You speak the truth...SNES graphics generally stand up to the test of time WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than PS1 or even N64 can manage. IMO, PS1 graphics often stand up even worse than NES graphics, much in the same way as Atari 2600 looks like complete crap by any reasonable standard by now. The first foray into a new dimention was always doomed to age poorly...but there ARE some good games nonetheless, and they can still be fun to play on the right hardware. But personally, I'd rather play my PS1 games on my PS3 anyway.
