Releasing old games like Crash Bandicoot on the PlayStation Network makes more sense than peanut butter and jelly, as evidenced by the fact that the PSone Classic has now surpassed 500,000 downloads in Europe. Sony confirmed the tidbit as part of its monthly digital sales charts, where the Naughty Dog hit held onto its place atop the retro section.
In fact, the entire category was once again dominated by the platforming icon, with Crash Team Racing crossing the chequered flag in third, and Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped assuming the fourth and fifth spots. It’s a shame that Sony no longer owns the license, as we’d love to see the spunky hero make a comeback.

Crash Team Racing was so damn awesome. Once I realised it was on the PS store I duley downloaded. Thos 4-player splitscreen races as a kid are fondly remembered. Like you say, its a shame Sony no longer owns the liscence. Crash hasnt been the same for a VERY long time..
@MadchesterManc He seems to have dropped off a cliff, too. We're not even getting bad Crash games anymore.
I hope he is't gone forever
@get2sammyb Actually now that you mention it, I cant even remember the last time I seen a Crash game. Think the last one I played was an Activision one on Ps2. Has it really been that long?
@MadchesterManc It has! Crash: Mind Over Mutant was the last release in 2008. A new version of Crash Team Racing was in development, but Activision scrapped it.
@get2sammyb Yeah, and High Impact Games were making it.
@ErnisDy its sad but relieving that the company can spew out new IP's like no other company can. Latest company to have amazing looking new IP's is definitely Ubisoft. I mean Watch Dogs.....which I hope doesn't disappoint, the Division., and the Crew.
@MrHilster I couldn't disagree with you more. I hope the swine is gone forever and his soul is burning in video game hell. I despise Crash Bandicoot more than every Manchester United player put together.
@MadchesterManc Really don't get the love for CTR. Not from yourself but everyone. I remember it being the first PlayStation game I ever played and just thinking "this is why I haven't bought one." Slow, uninspiring tracks, terrible characters, vocals you want to literally scratch out of your ears, boring in multiplayer. I honest to God do not get how anyone could ever have enjoyed it. Second worst racing game I've ever played, only Sonic R is worse. My word Sega really screwed up there.
@rastamadeus What's wrong with Crash? He's bloody brilliant!
@rastamadeus You're crazy - CTR is one of the best kart racers. Probably not quite on par with Mario Kart 64, but up there for me.
@get2sammyb Maybe not liking Mario Kart 64 is part of the issue. I find that the worst of all the MK games so far. The 3DS one is the pinnacle of that series for me. Always found CTR to be a poor clone of a poor MK. Glad people enjoy them both just amazed as to how you could like either CTR or MK64.
@MrHilster Whenever I see his stupid, gurning face I just wanna smash things to bits. I'd rather have dinner and rough sex with a gorilla than ever see Crash Bandicoot ever again. He's worse than Bubsy the bobcat, Kao the kangaroo, Rayman and all his friends combined.
@rastamadeus Ive only ever played it via 4-player splitscreen. Sure its not as fun as Quake2 or Team Buddies for multiplayer on Ps1, but it was good. Ive never played it single-player or anything so I guess my view of the game is a little rose-tinted due to the added fun of the ol' multitap. Ive never really been a fan of Kart racers tho myself. When it comes to racers Im more of a Wipeout/F-Zero kinda guy. Oh n please, for the love of god dont mention Sonic R. Ill go insane if I have those flashbacks again lol
Can you feel the sunshine, as it brightens up your day? Don't you feel that sometimes, you just need to run awayyyyyyyyyy?
@rastamadeus Kinky lol
P.S I love me some crash
Good games but real SHAME they only run is rubbish 50hz on PSN hence the reason i wont touch PS1 or Wii Vc titles, always been an import man for my games in years gone by to ensure i receive the full speed/screen experience.
@rastamadeus I wouldn't really put Rayman in the same category as Bubsy and Kao. His games are usually rather good.
To be honest I have never seen anyone say a good reason for hating the series other than "lol he has no limbs"
How hard can it be to greenlight a HD remake of the 3 first Crash games?
@artemisthemp
The $$$$$ activision wants. But A Crash launch title for PS4 would have sold more than Knack, possible system seller?
@8vpiper Activision can STFU and go back to making Cow of Duty and let Sony remake Crash for PS4 and Vita.
@artemisthemp
We Wish! I'm pretty sure Sony must have tried to negotiate with activision for the ip but activision knew what the potential could be for it and asked for a HUGE number! But hypothetically who would make it? Don't think naughty dog would be interested (guess). Japan studio? Sanzaru? Insomniac(please no)?Bend?
@get2sammyb Does Activision get money for the salses of the old crash game since they own the ip?
@rastamadeus Im going to get you a fine restaurant with the finest bottle of wine and a gorilla from artis zoo
@Sanquine Make it somewhere I can get miso ramen, would you?
@Magolor Rayman is just a cretin. He just looks and acts like he wants a slap. His games have been good - terrible so it's a shame he's an idiot. Look at Origins, a very good game (nowhere near the second coming of Christ it was made out to be, mind) but it lacked warmth and charm in the characters. They're all beautifully drawn and animated but not likeable. Sonic and Mario (whether you like their games or not) are liked worldwide because they're appealable. Rayman is just a berk. And French.
What I would really like to do is get a group of awesome video game programmers together, save up a bunch of money then buy the IP from activision.
