Riddle us this: would you buy a Batman: Arkham Anthology for the PlayStation 4? We heard rumours regarding the hypothetical remaster earlier in the year, when the collection was "confirmed" by IGN Italy's supposed sources. However, now we have a little more evidence to feed into the Bat Computer, as one NeoGAF user has happened upon a survey seemingly confirming the set.
In the flavour text, it's mentioned that Rocksteady Studios is working on upgraded versions of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. It mentions that these will be more than mere texture bumps, as it's "rebuilding both games from the ground with upgraded models, environments, lighting, shaders, and post-processing effects".
The blurb also mentions that both titles will come with all of their respective DLC, and then asks the recipient to rate their interest level. There are a trio of potential box art images as well, in addition to a slew of hypothetical names, including the obvious Batman: Arkham Remastered right through to the less catchy Batman: Absolute Arkham.
Of course, with remasters unnervingly common at the moment, we suspect that there's going to be a bit of a backlash to this. But with the brand new Batman: Arkham Knight right around the corner, you could argue that Warner Bros has gone about this one in the correct way. After all, you don't have to buy it if you don't want it.

My interest would be very high - Extremely interested. I prefer the middle Artwork but the Batman head with the image inside is a close second and the Black/green splat a close third. Of the names, I prefer Arkham Anthology or Legacy - the Masterpiece Collection also works for me.
I have both these games on both the XB360 and PS3 including the GotY edition of 'City' so have all the DLC anyway. Despite having these on last Gen, I would be very interested in a remastered, rebuilt and fully upgraded version. Both of these games were my Games of the Year and having the chance to play them with visuals akin to Arkham Knight would of course interest me.
Edit: I doubt WB are working (or considering) on remastering/rebuilding Arkham Asylum and Arkham Knight... I think you meant City
A 'remaster', eh? What a novel idea! Probably'll never catch on, though.
Very interested never finished the 1st game and never played 2nd so having all three will be immense
I'm definitely going to buy this. I already own asylum on my ps3 and PC, city on my wiiU, PC and ps3 and a ps4 version will be welcome to my game collection. (I also have origins on my wiiU, pc and ps3 and I have pre ordered knight for the ps4)
Link to vote?
I'm trying to get the games on my PS3, so I'm not interested, but a bunch of others probably would be.
@get2sammyb typo sammy i am sure you mean arkham asylum and city
Sweet! I already have the Batman: Arkham Collection (Anthology is a much better name), and have all 3 in a custom case with my own cover. But I think a remaster might get me to play through them again (and pretend Origins didn't exist).
@Mrskinner D'oh, thanks for the heads up. Fixed!
@get2sammyb no worries. And in answer to the question, i would buy this without a second thought!
No Origins of Blackgate though. It would be cool if they made a ps4 disk with all of them.
Will happily double dip for this, Asylum and City on PS4? Don't mind if I do.
O wow pc ulta settings are coming to ps4 for old games. Ummm so what, remasters are retarded, buy a pc and you can play it remasterd now with a ps4 controller. Each game already had like 2 or 3 versions last gen. idk I guess if you like buying the same game all the time this is for you, but I'll pass I already got all theese games for less than 20 on pc.
All you people who are willing to buy this are crazy. Seriously crazy because there's games aren't that old to desrerve a remaster. This gen should be called the remaster gen. Because there hasn't one solid new ip. Ok I know you like bloodborne, but I didnt. Redo skyrim so people can enjoy the game without all the load times that plagued ps3 and add ultra pc graphics, that would be worth your time trust me. Aren't you tired of playing old experiences yet?
Already have them so not interested.
I already own Arkham City and Origins for Wii U.
The one game I'm interested in, that I haven't played, is Asylum. So yes, I could be persuaded to buy this if the price is right ($40 seals the deal)
O and you can buy this 4.99 each on steam right now remaster that.
Ha just bought these for my ps3 again last week. $10 each brand new for both GOTY editions and the far graphics still look great imho. I suppose a remaster would make sense mostly for those who have yet to experience them yet or collectors looking to have the full trilogy for their new gen consoles. Either way you can't really complain since they're still giving us a brand new batman game first, so it's not like they're wasting development time on remasters
@LAdrew87
Yes they are wasting time, they could be building a new ip or sosomething else. A fool and his money are soon parted.
@alb614 No new IP's??
Watchdogs, Destiny, The Order 1886, Bloodbourne, Dying Light, Driveclub, Project Cars, Evil Within, Knack, Evolve etc to mention those available on PS4 only. I wouldn't call Shadow of Mordor or Alien Isolation sequels either although they are games that have had previous themed games (Lord of the Rings and Aliens of course).
I believe Hellblade (due around Christmas is a new IP). Games like Wolfenstein and the upcoming Battlefront are examples of reboots rather than sequels or the expected franchise type game - like CoD, Assassins Creed, Battlefield, Fifa etc. and certainly not remasters. I don't quite know how to class the Lego games as some are Sequels (Batman 3), some are totally new (Marvel superheroes) and others are film based (Jurrasic World). The Witcher 3 is not a New IP but it is new to Playstation.
Just because you may have played Batman on last gen, doesn't mean everyone has or were able too. My son is not quite 15 yet so missed out on it and I bet he isn't the only one either. Remasters serve a purpose - they are for fans, newcomers and anyone who missed out. In the case of games like The Last of Us - they are also for those that have jumped from other consoles to Playstation.
A remaster doesn't take anywhere near as much time to do OR require a whole development team to work on it. The story, vocals, environment, animations etc are all done so its only a bit of graphical polish. In he case of this, they can import the assets, character models etc from Arkham Knight to save time too
This is one rm I would get.
The green "splash" art is the best one, imho.Yeah, I already finished these games, on the PC.
But I'll get it for the PS4. Wish they will include Origins. Then it can be named... The Arkham Trilogy.
TAT for short.
@BAMozzy well on pc what's curent on the consoles is last gen to pc users. If you want to pay 40 - 60 bucks for games you could have for 5 be my guest. Every game you mentioned is available on pc with a better price, load times, and graphics. The only 2 that aren't available are the order, and knack they were pretty boring releases. So again it's all about you bub, if you prefer to pay more than have at it but I personally don't see the value. If they redo both games in UE4 that's a remaster, but there not it's the pc version on ultra 1080p 60fps no new content. Its not a remaster it's a cash grab.
It's not a remaster it's a re release
My two favorite games last generation. Absolutely love this series! I will pick this up for sure.
@alb614 Regardless of your opinion about PC's, every one of those games is a NEW IP. Not a remaster, not a sequel, not a game in an existing franchise. Destiny is also not available on PC and I don't think Bloodbourne or Driveclub is either. I also have an Xbox so also have access to all the new IP's and exclusives on that system too. Both my consoles cost less than an a mediocre gaming PC - certainly not one that would be able to run the Witcher 3 very well (if at all). I can't remember the last game I paid £40+ for Probably the Limited Edition of Destiny. I paid £35 for the Witcher 3 and the same for Batman: Arkham Knight and know I don't need to invest in more RAM or Graphics Card either.
Having slightly (yes Slightly) better graphics etc doesn't change the content, the story etc either. In some cases (like Batman Arkham Knight) PC owners will actually get less as the Scarecrow Nightmare missions are exclusive to PS4 - at least until fall 2015. PC owners are only just able to play some of the XB1 'exclusives' like the new IP 'Ryse' and 'Dead Rising 3' and good luck trying to play Godzilla, Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank, GT7, Tearaway, Until Dawn etc on PC - and these are just the Playstation exclusives that PC players won't be able to play!
Your initial statement though said there hasn't been one solid new IP and yet I listed a lot from a variety of genres that disprove your statement. There is more new IP's as well as new experiences than remasters. I know some franchises may have similarities but they offer a new experience, new story and often new mechanics too.
If you want spend 4+ times as much on your hardware, just to have a bit better visuals and faster load times that doesn't change the content, story, etc, that's your choice but it doesn't change the fact that there are new games, new experiences and new IP's this generation. Maybe if you bothered looking instead of whinging on the internet you would know this or did you spend so much on your PC that you can't afford to buy the games?
@alb614 You talk about the great prices on Steam but you assume that a lot of console gamers would just flat out pay full price. A lot of us use the preowned market because we can then get some trade value on games we don't want anymore and can play the newest titles without paying the high end price all the time. And because it's on disk, it takes up less space then the digital version, which doesn't have any trade in value. And that's the problem with Steam, you don't own the games. What if Steam went away one day? All those titles that people have in their library are gone.
@BAMozzy totally agree with everything you said, except the part about pcs only having slightly better graphics. It's definitely not true, even less so now with all new pc games supporting 4k. I game in 4k and trust me, the difference is sometimes staggering. But graphics aren't everything and the ps4 is awesome. For me, it's only used for exclusive games because I buy my multiplatform games on pc for the visuals and framerate... but man... bloodborne alone was worth the price of admission for me.
Oh man I would absolutely jump all over this ! As long as it was a proper remaster. Like for example what was done with metro 2033. I would love to replay these games especially asylum with upgraded textures and graphics as well as 60 fps. Pleaseeeee let this be real! Would have been much cooler if they released it before arkham knight tho :/
@BAMozzy @adf86 first of all you guys need to settle down. I've been gaming for almost 30 years. I got ps4, xb1, and two high end gaming pcs. I hate my xb1 I bought it 4 hmcc and was thourghly disapointed. Let's see infamous second son it was ok I guess, order sucked, drive club idk I read it sucked irony play racers. Botom line is I could care less if you buy old ass games or not I'm just saying that if you want to play the re release of batman or tomb raider or any of the other recent re releases(exclude metro) than go nuts I'm not going to cuz I already have them and just cuz you own a digital game does not mean you don't have the space maybe on a 500 gig hard drive but dude I have 3 tb hd so no biggie I can put as many digital games as I want on it, but I don't cuz there's no need. I don't have the time to play 190 games at one's, I keep the games I play frequently on my pc. But don't get your panties all in a bunch people I play my ps4 I love it pc has some draw backs. Mainly when it comes to mainstream console games like mkx no one plays it on pc, or COD they don't play that. They play junk like lol and dota2 and csgo. I don't get into that stuff. I'm just saying that your being ripped off and if you want to defend geting riped off then have at it. Pc graphics crush consoles, the main diff is the 60fps imo on ultra, but whatever. I could care less what you play cuz what I like you may not and vice versa. But don't get offended when I say that your going to pay a much higher price than you have to. So what you buy your games used. I still get mines at cheaper New price than your used price and if you don't like it go buy a pc.
@alb614 Let's watch the language please -Tasuki-
@mitcHELLspawn A 4k resolution is unobtainable for the majority of PC's unless you spend a LOT. Based on the costs for the recommended specs to play the Witcher 3, you are looking at over £1k easily and that would manage 1080p - the same resolution as the PS4 manages for £300 - probably less than a quarter of the cost. No doubt you would need to buy a 4k Monitor as well - a 28" costs as much as a PS4 too.
I have a 4K TV so know exactly what 4K looks like in comparison to 1080p and whilst I admit it does look good its not 'that' much better than 1080p. I really don't know how much your PC gaming set up cost you but I bet it costs more than 5 times the cost of a console. It doesn't change the story or content. It adds a bit of 'gloss' to the experience but ultimately doesn't affect the dialogue, plot or options.
Lets be honest PC gamers pay a lot more for their hardware and to be honest don't get a different game, different story, more options etc. If I was spending thousands to be able to play, I would be severely annoyed if it didn't/couldn't beat a £300 console visually.
@alb614 We're not getting our "panties in a bunch" we're giving our opinions since that's what a comments section is for. It's when you call people "crazy" just because they would happily double dip for a remaster that you wouldn't that people are going to start debating with you. But then since you only joined this site 10 hours ago I get the impression that's exactly what you came for just so you can big up PC's. If that's the case then you've had more then enough of my time.
@BAMozzy bro to be honest with you it cost less than you think it. My i7 4790 980 can do 4k, my i5 4670k gtx770 2 gig can do 1440p. If I wouldn't have bought my ps4 I wouldn't have gotten my 770 rig.(first pc ever) . and if I never bought that I never would bought a 980 rig. I built both because I could. There's was a drought of ps4 games from launch till now, so I needed something to play and the arkham pc games were it. They are night and day compared to 360 ps3, so when they say there re releasing the games I'm not sure it can get much better than pc ultra settings. Pc gaming is cheaper than u think. You'll get the best now and don't have to wait for a console refresh, also when you upgrade all your old games work with your new hardware.
They could easily use Arkham Knight's engine but honestly, I don't care about replaying them.
@adf86 that's because I don't remember my old user name ice only known about this site for a year. Your not double diping your getting double diped. I love my ps4 for some things but the exclusives have been disapointing. I'm not saying Pc is better or ps4 is better but imo there both better than xb1 and I prefer my pc to ps4 now. But that was due to a large drought of games. But big ups keep gaming, and please don't swat me. : )
@BAMozzy I don't really know why this turned into you droning on about money. For a lot or people money isn't a factor. And I didn't say the pc has better graphics than a ps4 and is cheaper, did I? I just stated the graphics are MUCH better on pc when you have a 4k gaming pc like me. I'm not taking away anything from ps4 as I said before it's a great console and I love it. I was just pointing out you downplaying the difference in graphics, and you still are. You may have a 4k tv, but I don't see how that makes you understand what 4k gaming looks like....
Anyway as I said it actually is a HUGE difference in graphical fidelity. With ultra graphics settings at 1080p alone it's still a pretty big difference. Anyone who plays both and can sit them side by side will tell you just how big of a difference there is. A lot of people say it's not because all they've seen is crappy compressed youtube comparison videos..
But yeah so like I said even 1080p is huge diff, but then add 4k to that, as well as 60 fps gaming then yeah its a huge jump up.
Now for someone who doesn't have much money those differences aren't as big of a deal. They can get the ps4 and be perfectly happy. And that's cool too. I just think it's silly for people to try to downplay the differences saying there isn't much of a difference between pc and console because they don't want to admit it to themselves... it's not a big deal. If you enjoy it on ps4 with low settings and 22-30 fps then that's great for you, it shouldn't matter if pcs are better or not to you.
I would pick up asylum as I have never played it. City though I have already and one is enough for me.
I don't see this as much of a cash grab as others. If publishers want to re-release their best games of the last gen on the current gen, I am all for it. Plan on picking a few games I never tried last gen (only had a Wii) when buy 2 get 1 free rolls around next Black Friday 😎
Even though it would be another remastered game for PS4, I'd still purchase it to have it in beautiful HD with better graphics. Other than that, I'd still rather have an Uncharted Trilogy pack first.
Wow. People talking about PC's like everyone has the same PC that they do. I needed that laugh.
As for this remaster, l'd probably give it a try at a decent price. Never got around to finishing Arkham City on Ps3. Hopefully they'd keep & boost the games 3D mode a little too
Why is everyone going on about PCs? Goto PushLeftmousebutton if you really love them lol. That was a joke. I played asylum, didn't really see what the fuss was about spent half a day crawling round some sewers and fighting lizard man.
Why no arkham origins it was so good hue hue hue.
I hope this turns out to be true, would love to re-play both Asylum and City on PS4.
@THEundying27 That was unnecessary. If you can't contribute to the article at hand then please don't comment. Thanks -Tasuki-
I think that Rocksteady should wait until all of Arkham Knight's DLC are released and then release all three games as a trilogy with all of the DLC. Some sort of bonus story should also be released that is exclusive to the trilogy.
