Among the wealth of other anticipated upcoming titles, it's probably odd that New Hot Shots Golf sits atop Push Square Towers' most wanted PlayStation 4 games list. But here's the thing: developer Clap Hanz has an impeccable record when it comes to arcade sports games, and with over a decade of practice, we doubt that it's going to hit a double bogey any time soon.
There is reason to be concerned, though, because the Japanese studio's latest looks below par visually. The company's ditched its traditionally bubbly character roster in favour of player created protagonists, which have all of the personality of an Xbox avatar. And while there's some good foliage on display in these all-new screens, it all looks a little blurry and flat.
To be fair to the firm, this does sound like the most ambitious Hot Shots title to date. As far as we can tell, courses will have multiple routes, meaning there won't always be one path to that all-important eagle. Moreover, it sounds like you'll be playing in a constantly connected online arena, where there'll always be other minigames and activities taking place around you.
The game will be playable at PlayStation Experience 2015 this weekend, so let's hope that the actual action proves as addictive as ever.

I'm hoping they make another tennis game. Hopefully for the PS4 or Vita. Either way, the golf has always been fun.
Hard to go back to play a Golf game without motion controls.
Hmmmm I'm not sure it needs to look incredible. But we'll see, still hopeful it'll be good.
I have faith in Clap Hanz , they've never let us down yet.
@kyleforrester87 I agree, it doesn't. But I feel like the character models are a step backwards, and the actual presentation looks a bit flat when it should really pop in a game like this.
@get2sammyb Do you think they spent too much of their time on the mini game additions that they added? There was something about buggy races and fishing, and if it's anything like Little Big Planet 3, they probably focused more on the online issue. Still, with the fact that trophies were never added to the PS3 version, it'll be nice with trophies added into this one! It would be really neat if they added the Playstation VR support!
@JLPick Yeah, the whole game sounds more ambitious this time around, which is a good thing. I imagine they're not the biggest team in the world, so maybe they did decide to invest their budget elsewhere.
@get2sammyb Yeah on second viewing those character models look a little uninspired..
I've never played Hotshots, but I've seen previous games and these screenshots look terrible! Hoping they put the characters they already had back for the players of the series.
Hot shots is probably the best game on the vita. That's coming from a non golf fan
I felt like I was the only one who felt underwhelmed with the announcement trailer we saw earlier this year. The trailer showed very little actual golfing and uninspired charters. Don't get me wrong, I like some of the changes they are making, however, it doesn't seem to be teeing into the right territory. I love games like Hot Shots and Mario Golf, but if this game continues on the same route, it'll be a definite skip.
Golf games are not normally too hard to get great looking graphics, much like racing games. I have Hot Shots on Vita and its actually alot of fun.
Sad that the pre-made-slightly-insulting-stereotype-characters will be left out. They were always good for a laugh. I am certain the game will be entertaining, hot shots(or everone's golf in Europe right?) has been a must buy for me since the first PlayStation.
Guess I shouldn't have been so optimisitc. this game is my secret weakness. I don't even like golf. Quite evil indeed.
Don't worry @get2sammyb, I got the pun in the title even if no one else did
I first heard they were aiming for a free hub world for your avatar to walk around in and socialize with other avatars, almost like a PS home. In this world would be a full fledged golf, tennis and maybe beach volleyball or soccer game which you could all buy separately. This system would be just great, especially with a focus on multiplayer, but just a golf game won't cut it anymore these days.
Just take a look at how Mario Tennis is doing now: mechanically it's just fine, but due to the lack of content it's a slap in the face of every gamer. Hot Shots Gold alone is $20 worth of fun, but to charge $60 you have to come up with something else than your own personal avatar.
I'd just prefer it to stick to the same old tradition of numerous quirky characters to choose from, tournaments and the versus mode to win new characters. I love this arcade series, I hope it's not trying to become more serious.
Looks pretty good to me
Looks great from here. I'm destined to lose to the robots that play this game - but it will be fun losing!!
This looks like a very good PS2 or a Wii game.
