Much like Polygon Man at an E3 event eons ago, Sony Computer Entertainment is being taken out into the parking lot and shot. The Japanese giant announced today that it will be merging the iconic organisation with Sony Network Entertainment to create a new company called Sony Interactive Entertainment. It's a move that makes sense, but the death of SCE as a name will be a bitter pill for many long term fans to swallow.
And the attachment to the company name and its legendary diamond logo stems from one 15 second sequence: the PSone boot animation. We figured that, on this darkest of days, it was worth remembering the famous opening, which prefaced so many great memories for all of us. Pour one out for the greatest intro of all time, and a publisher name which has become synonymous with some of the best exclusives ever made.

The start up sound of the ps1 is still my favourite console start up ever!! It was my message tone when I had a Samsung phone
oh man a tsunami of memories coming through...
I'll always love the PS1 startup tune.
Weird time to get sentimental, but I still remember the first time I ever played my PS1. I was playing Crash Bash, and after that PS1 intro, I remember the screen going black and then suddenly words popping up on the screen, with a deep voice going "Sony Computer Entertainment America Presents...." as Crash Bash was starting. That chill I got I'll never forget.
wow. this is pure nostalgia and gets me right in the heart. I never owned a PS1 (thank goodness for backwards compatibility on the PS2), but I remember visiting my cousins when I was very young and they had a PS1. I wasn't allowed to play any games, so I just sat and watched my cousins play. It seemed all very grown-up, and I never forgot the sound of that start-up screen.
Man that's great, although they spelt Europe wrong on the second black screen
One of the reasons I love the 20th anniversary theme for the PS4. Everytime I hear that tone upon start up, I still get goosebumps. For me seeing that screen on the PS one meant that the new gen of video games have arrived.
@Tasuki yeah I still have that theme on my ps4 as well
@Neolit you always knew something good was gonna follow that chime
Am I the only one that was scared of the startup sound in the first year or so? xD
Goosebumps.
This also makes me remember that wonderful smell that the PS1 controller's analog sticks had. Ah...
Nahhh the Gamecube startup was better Imo. The little squares rolling with that blippy melody.
@themcnoisy meh, can't really say anyone is better imo I loved them all lol.
@themcnoisy I agree, gamecube boot was way better than playstation. The Sega Saturn one was too.
It is one of the best boot-ups - I remember when I turned on my PS1 for the first time. The second portion sounded mystical to me.
