Ah, the trusty Chocobo. A reliable ride, a fine ally to have in combat, and a creature that has its own theme music. These feathery friends have featured in many a Final Fantasy game, and, as we already know, they're back in Final Fantasy XV.
They're also showcased in this short gameplay video that Square Enix's just released. In it, we get to see protagonist Noctis' riding skills as he takes a Chocobo for a spin - and yes, the whole thing plays out to the cheery score that we all know and love.
Will you be wrangling Chocobos this September? Embarrass yourself trying to make a kweh sound in the comments section below.

KWEH!!!
Looks good. Although FF15 has a habit of looking better in videos. Optimistic though - expecting average, maybe surprised.
"making a Kweh!",i remember when it used to be Wark!
but hell yeah i'm getting FFXV, Final Fantasy is my all time favourite game series and i have been waiting for this game since it was first announced as FFVsXII so i'm not gonna miss out on it now
So are the chocobo free roaming, all those guys on chocobos seem to be going only in straight lines, nobody ever turned. From the side it looked like a 2 .5D platformer. I don't want to get excited for riding chocobo on rails. After XCX I'm ready for more real exploration.
Anyone ever seen the Brentalfloss video "The Chocobo Song WITH LYRICS"? XD
@Grawlog They are releasing a whole new console to run it!
@Grawlog "just a taxi"
That thought never even occurred to me, I thought on rails would be bad enough, but if all you can do is press a button to get on and off, man I'd rather just walk.
FFX, in 2001, ff they can't duplicate that in 2016, quit the business.

Riding the cat in DQ8 was 1 of my favorite parts of the game back in 2004.

And speaking of quitting the business, these old PS2 games had a lot of voice acting, Zelda U better follow suit, silence in a 2017 game just seems wrong.
@Grawlog @rjejr It's all been detailed before. You have full control over Chocobos - you can even 'drift' when riding one. Unsure if you can summon them at any time though - think you may have to pick them up from certain locations.
@ShogunRok "It's all been detailed before."
Thanks, that's good to know, but did you watch the vid? Outside of that moment when they are attacked everybody just drives straight ahead. If I were on a choccobo I'd NEVER be going straight, it's be all weaving and drifting all the time. Lets see a vid where they show what those puppies can do. Not one that looks like this.

@Bliquid Did you get a chance to play Episode Duscae? It's much more substantial than the bare-bones tech-demo-ey Platinum Demo. I personally think this game will live up to the trailers for the most part, although it took me a little while to learn to love the combat system.
Chocobos that can drift! Nuff said!
Wonder if you will be able to breed chocobos like in older games. Really want a red one!
@Bliquid this sums up my feelings.
@SkanetWasTaken As a big Witcher fan I can say that it had very severe framerate problems, it got marginally better with the patches but it still is not even 30fps...I'd be amazed if ff15 ended up running worse than that! Episode Duscae was comparable.
@rjejr
Wark, wark, wark, wark, wark, wark
He say me have to
Wark, wark, wark, wark, wark, wark!
Only just realised Rihanna clearly has no grasp of the English language, then again that's modern music and its Starbucks lovers @get2sammyb
No death metal, no buy god dammit.
Looks a touch rough. I'm not expecting much at this point, but man every video is making me cringe.
I'll stick to A Realm Reborn. They can even fly in that.
@Bliquid Yeah, "Kingdom Hearts" is what I hear being tossed around a lot, and I even got that vibe from Episode Duscae's combat initially too (I'm also not a big fan of Kingdom Hearts either, but then again I never played very far into it). The lore and character bios for this game (see: official website) definitely seem up your alley though, and it comes off as more like FF12 to me in terms of a political/war-time story.
@BLPs I have no idea what any of that was, so I'm just going to guess it's the meds talking.
@rjejr yup. Healing isn't going well either running into complications
@BLPs Sorry to hear it. Rest up and get better.
@rjejr I'm avoiding NL...Can't take much more of that. It's like being in my house, unable to enjoy the games I want in peace and....I'm in my house...I THOUGHT I WAS FREE!
In all seriousness I just can't put up with that cherry flavoured BS. Back to the PSnation for me I guess. It's like being 6 again. Except Ratchet and Clank is less Frequent, the other games I liked are dead and I'm not being beaten up at school daily. Mainly because it's my holiday now XD
@rjejr You can see the player turn as soon as 12 seconds in, during the fall/glide (look for Noctis leaning as he's about to land), and then there's a big turn/flap/airdrift thingy at 31 seconds that's unmissable. Not that turning or not turning says anything about it being on rails, really, since rails turn too.
Turning aside, some of the stuff in the trailer just wouldn't make sense for a taxi, like that whole battle sequence (short as it is) and, uh, walking. A taxi that walks is kinda pointless.
Another possibility, though, is that they could have both on-rails and free-roaming in the game, similarly to how it's done in FFXIV: new players can hire point-to-point taxis for a nominal fee, then later on in the game you're able to obtain your own personal chocobo buddy to ride anywhere. I could live with that.
edit: Just watched the video you linked to for a better idea of what you're framing it as. Eh, I guess I can see where you're coming from, but it still seems like a stretch to me. I wouldn't worry about a lack of playing like a spaz in a video that's clearly trying to be artsy.
Still doesn't compare to Epona!
