Did you grow up with PSone greats like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VII? Then upcoming old-school Japanese role-playing game I Am Setsuna should be right up your alley – it's clearly been heavily inspired by the 32-bit JRPGs of old. In fact, publisher Square Enix is not even shying away from it, describing the PlayStation 4 release as a "classic for modern times". Subtle.
This one actually launched in Japan earlier in the year to moderate acclaim. The only real disappointment is that the PlayStation Vita version is not being brought overseas, as this seems like the kind of experience that would excel on the handheld. Oh well, the PS4 edition is better than nothing we suppose. It's due out on 19th July.

Looks and sounds really, really good so far. Loving the soundtrack, the tone and gameplay style so far. Very excited for this. A shame there's not a Vita version but I would have got the PS4 version anyway so I'll live!
Awsum
Is this digital only? I am hyped for this.
Beautiful piano. Added to my summer wish list.
@finalstan Yeah, only Japan had the physical release if I'm not mistaken.
This looks beautiful and will be a day one buy for me.I miss these kind of old school rpgs and to be honest as much as I'm looking forward to the new Star Ocean and Final Fantasy I think I'll be happier playing this one
This game looks amazing. But I still find solely using the Piano for the music a dreadfully boring choice, at least amp it up a bit for the battle themes.
@finalstan It did get a physical release in Japan, but I'm pretty sure it's only digital here in the states.
@Expa0 Agree there, as good as this game looks I get the odd feeling it'll be wearing thin on me as I go past 70% completion, kind of like Child of Light.
Edit: Just watched it again though and I can't help but be hyped, I hope it sustains itself throughout. Love a good airship. I hope Square keep it up with stuff like this and Bravely.
I love the concept. Escorting someone you know is going to die is a really great idea. Throughout the journey you can sprinkle enough character moments to inspire dread the closer you get toward the destination. Concept has a lot of room for emotional depth and complexity. Hmm, might write a book
Ahhhh! this is awesome! Just what I'm looking for. Can't wait.
Awesome piano! This belongs on the Vita though. Too bad it isn't going to be released for it in the West...I hope they change their mind.
Damn shame about the Vita version, but great to see games like this coming out.
@kyleforrester87 I hear you. Felt exactly the same about CoL two-thirds of the way in. A good story line might just prevent that in this game.
Well excited to see that airship. Love it when games have these in.
Any idea on the cost, NA version?
Holy crap this is awsome looking , really captures that old school final fantasy vibe. Plus I seen them use demi spell, makes me wonder if its part of ff universe.either way it has now made it to my list.
Is that... an airship?!!
Yes yes yes yes yes. Come to Jaxon.
I'll always read that title as "I Am Satsuma," and will forever hold to my belief that this game is really the story of a very sad tangerine.
@WanderingBullet With english or only Japanese?
I don't actually get it why they won't release the Vita version - it's there, digital-only, and they needed to do translation for the PS4 version, surely somebody just needs to copy-paste it in...?
@Flaming_Kaiser Pretty sure it's Japanese only. It was released back in Feb 2016.
