Is this winning streak that From Software's on ever going to end? Just when we thought that we were done with Dark Souls III, it's only gone and raked us back in with this Ashes of Ariandel trailer. As is to be expected from the Japanese developer, this looks like a proper expansion, complete with a new frigid environment and fearsome foes for you to mutilate.
There's already some speculation that the area may be connected to the Painted World of Ariamis from the original Dark Souls β we even see a torn piece of painting being offered by a crooked hand in the clip. In addition to the new location, you'll also find fresh weapons, armour, and magic spells in the add-on, as well as all-new competitive multiplayer features.
Even more excitingly, this is only the first of two new Dark Souls III expansions, which means that there's much more to look forward to. Ashes of Ariandel will launch on 25th October.

I am VERY excited for this! Really enjoyed the main game and looking forward to spending more time in the world.
I was a bit confused yesterday when it sounded like we were just getting weapons and a pvp area. This looks more like what I was expecting. Ita looks very good.
Problem is my save game is at the end of ng++... not where I want to start the xpac from.
Glad to finally see some info about this and wow, it looks absolutely fantastic. Can't wait! More DS3 can only be a good thing. Time to buy that season pass I guess!
I got near the end of DS3 and then forgot about it! Need to polish this off!
@Mega-Gazz wonder if we have to create a new file or can start off any. The dlc may require certain check points; like Bloodborne.
I ll never have enough of Dark Souls. Can't wait for this.... October ia too far away
@TomKnows probably like bloodborne. Worst case I do another full clear
More Dark Souls is no bad thing.
Looks amazing.
I don't think anyone expected otherwise though.
My pool of salivation grows.
@Draythedestroyer The reason it sounded incomplete is because there was no official news and the whole story wasn't reported. Ironically a proper expansion wasn't expected until we had the full news.
YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First the amazing Nioh beta and now this? WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!
@arnoldlayne83 Seriously, for me Souls fatigue doesn't even exist. That's why I am so glad we are getting more DLC and a fantastic Japanese folklore successor (Nioh)
We Souls fans are being spoiled so hard
There goes my Dark Souls III purchase with the inevitable GOTY edition. At least it gives me time to clear some of my backlog.
I was excited for this game but it was bad, it's the BFH of the soul's franchise, not a soul's game at all. Just another dissapointment lol, roll on next gen.
I still need to finish the base game. I got it when it came out and got through that swamp area to some castle place. There were two quite tough human enemies by some steps that I beat after fighting Crystal Sage. That was the last thing I did. Can't remember what happened, some other game probably came out and stole my attention.
On the bright side, I bought the season pass months ago. Maybe this'll be like the first game where I bought it at launch but didn't finish it till this year.
Damn I've still not even got round to the Bloodborne DLC yet, let alone this!
@xMEADx Are you referring to nioh or ds3?
Whilst I loved my import of Demons Souls on PS3 and bought Dark Souls 1-3, personally I've found them nowhere near as original or enjoyable - they all rip off Demons Souls in play mechanics, structure and gear.
Only the darker tone differentiates - and meanwhile, reviewers desperate for the next big thing keep on saying blindly that Dark Souls is genius.
Meanwhile, From Software laugh out loud at the hilarity of making the same game 4 times over and not being found out as a one-trick pony.
All of Demons Souls majesty was formularised with Dark Souls - the difficulty was secondary to the level design and ingenuity in general (the first time a dragon swoops down for a fire-breathing attack just wow) - yet reviewers kid themselves thinking that and the just as awful Bloodborne win game of the year awards?!?
Crikey, this game saps all enjoyment out of gaming, it becomes an exercise in just staying alive, with nothing else besides tedium and frustration which some gamers regard as 'fun' for true gamers.
I'd rather From Software 'fessed up they made gamers pay for the same game 4 times over - and we can all stop kidding ourselves these games are worthy of these awards. They're not - only Demons Souls deserves that distinction - not the 'me too' sequels and reviewers desperate for acceptance π
Rant over, Galvatron looks forward to denials, rebuttals and reasons why they think they love this game.....sheesh, From Software should just sell themselves to Activision whilst I laugh how they say in press interviews "we really wanted this to feel like a new experience" ha ha ha π
