No open world game is complete without towers for you to climb, and Horizon: Zero Dawn is no different. Guerrilla Games' gorgeous role-playing release will see you clambering up dino-bots in order to reach a vantage point, which will unlock points of interest on the map. Yeah. Look, at least these lookout points are alive, eh?
In this new developer diary, key members of the team discuss the design decisions behind the robotic wildlife that you'll encounter. The video also provides a first-look at a new water-based alligator-type creature, which will patrol the canals and lakes in the game, preventing protagonist Aloy from taking a dip for too long.

@2:34 Mr. Croc looks absolutely menacing. I love the idea of these machines sneaking up on you when you're swimming.
Le Sigh. Even Ubisoft knows that towers are a tired boring gameplay mechanic, and as I understand ditched them in watch_dogs2
I just can't get excited for this game, sure it looks pretty, but it all looks so samey? I mean, apart from catching giant robot things, what else do you do? Is there a story?
I'm getting a strong "No Mans Sky" feeling about it all, I obviously mean the hype, the pretty screenshots, the promised potential etc but nothing has been revealed about what else you actually do
I honestly can't wait for this game! It looks amazing and looks really fun, a good adventure title to come!
@gmxs They're holding a lot of stuff back. I think they're trying their hardest to preserve the mystery of the story, so maybe a lot of the side stuff ties into the overarching plot somehow?
There is some information out there, but Guerrilla are keeping most of it locked up it seems. Game Informer covered the game in quite a lot of detail recently, maybe they have some of the answers you're looking for
Wasn't this shown in another trailer? I seem to remember Aloy climbing up a tall robo dino in one.
The "lookout points" being alive does sound a bit interesting. Maybe they even fight back? That I would approve of.
It's a bit worrying that the non-Pro footage looks jerky as hell.
@Drawfull All the trailers have looked fine to me and there was only one Pro trailer.
Snore! Game looks okay, but open world isn't easy to get right. Seems very humdrum in areas. We'll see!
What's with the rather cynical view that the game is getting now? Guerrilla are making a new IP in a genre they haven't done before so of course they are going to adopt certain mechanics from other games because they have to play it safe somewhere.
@adf86 I think it's because some are seeing some similarities to Assassin's Creed, which has kinda exhausted the open world formula a bit. Admittedly I feel it could happen pretty easily, but I'm really hoping that doesn't happen.
And yes, playing it safe isn't really bad, especially if what you have is already good, but open world tropes have been seen many times, people are just worn down by it now.
@gmxs LMAO at your comparison to NMS. If anything there is at least a proven track record to bank on Guerilla Games as a dev than Hello Games.
