The Yakuza series has always revelled in ridiculous minigames - and Yakuza 0 has the best selection of the bunch. Seriously, you can spend hours at a time hopping from one activity to the next, but in our latest video, we've tried to narrow down our four favourite time sinks. We'll warn you now, though - some of this footage won't be safe for work.
So, what's in store for you lucky viewers? Well, as mentioned, we've captured gameplay from four different minigames: disco dancing, underground cat fighting, telephone club dating, and model car racing. Each one offers something a little different, highlighting the variety that's on show in SEGA's latest release. And yes, you did read that list right - there's an actual underground arena where rich people go to place bets on an all-female fighting league.
No doubt a lot of this footage will be the dumbest stuff that you see all day, but ultimately, dumb fun is a core element of Yakuza 0 - it just wouldn't be the same game without it. Give our escapades a watch, and then let us know your thoughts - bemused or otherwise - in the comments section below.

I want it I want it I want it.............come on Tuesday
Haha, some of the stuff in this game is mental!
Must....buy...this...NOW!
@ShogunRok @get2sammyb Wait, so these dumb minigames are the greatest thing ever, but the carnival in FFXV in a complete waste of time?
Yeah, ok.
@rjejr Context!
I haven't found any underground arena. Do you need to go on with the story first or is it hidden and I may have missed it ?
When is it released???
So many open world games need to take lessons from this game on how to do enjoyable side quests!
@rjejr Yeah it's like Sammy says - all about context. Final Fantasy XV is a great game - my favourite from last year - but this carnival thing seems like such a throwaway thing to add. And that's without even mentioning that it's available for a limited time!
Minigames are integral to Yakuza's formula. They'd still be great games if you got rid of the side stuff, but they add so much flavour and character. Not to mention that they're actually really good. Obviously haven't played Final Fantasy XV's carnival offerings yet, but I seriously doubt that the minigames will be on the same level. Heck, the side activities in the base release are lacking to begin with.
@Melucine If I remember right it's kind of pushed in your direction around chapter... 7 or 8. It's somewhere around there. Other minigames open up around that point, too.
@arnoldlayne83 24th January, so just a few days away!
@ShogunRok Good to know, I am still at chapter 4. Thanks for the reply!
I'll be getting this next week and as usual probably spend more time on the minigames than the story, shame it doesn't have a Virtua Fighter (Yakuza 6 can't come soon enough with Virtua Fighter 5 😃). I'll give these games a go but I'll be more interested in the arcade games and pool, who knows I may even get round to finishing the story too
@carlos82 Welcome to the fantasy zone!
@ShogunRok "all about context"
I get that, and I can understand if you were a little more meh about 1 and a little less meh about the other, but they seem close enough to each other that LOVING one and HATING the other seemed a bit extreme.
"Four of the best totally awesome minigames"
is very difference from
"Just the dumbest thing, why?"
Rating similar things a 4 and 6 is different from a 1 and 10, and hey just seemed similar to me. Course I haven't played either one yet so you guys could be right on the mark.
Pinball in FFXV is lame, I figured out how ot play it but it's still meh. And I literally spent an hour trying to catch the "Liege of the Lake" last night, fishing minigame mission at camp on Vesperpool lake. I caught five other fish, broke all my line, and Noctis just kept standing there w/ his pole in hand w/ no line on it not letting me cast. They did let me keep my 5 fish, but ultimately it was a waste of an hour. But the worst part is I'm not even sure how to get back to fishing for it, keep camping there I guess. bah
So the carnival better be stupid fun. Or just stupid. I'm really looking forward to camera at will more myself.
@get2sammyb Oops sorry, you should have been included on post #16 above. Don't let Shogun suffer alone.
@rjejr I can't catch the Liege of the Lake either. And don't worry, we'll be visiting the carnival next week!
@get2sammyb "I can't catch the Liege of the Lake either."
Man, I never thought I would miss that horrible fishing minigame and trying to catch the Liege of the Lake, but after chapters 11, 12 and 13 last night, just give me my damn pole back!
