For our money, Horizon: Zero Dawn is up there with the best looking games ever made. And y'know what, we're including PC software in that; sure pricey graphics cards can technically do more, but Guerrilla Games' opus is specifically coded to squeeze every last drop of juice out of the PlayStation 4 and, of course, its 4K-capable counterpart, the PS4 Pro.
And this time lapse excellently assembled by Digital Foundry shows just how beautiful the game can be. It's perhaps worth noting that some of these shots come courtesy of the title's Photo Mode which freezes the foliage, so you actually get a much more "alive" image in the game itself. But this is a stunning little clip all the same, and is well worth watching in 2160p.

I won't watch but...damn how hyped am I for this? I need it man, I need it...
Wow, that's beautiful! Congrats, Guerrila!
@AFCC There are no spoilers.
What the engine can do on ps4 is amazing, sony should use this engine on others 1st party game too, why make a new engine if there's a more capable engine at hand.
I pre-ordered yesterday. Watching this makes me even more keen.
See, games can be an art form.
The game looks stunning, especially those clouds
Stunning!!

This breaks down what the GG have achieved with Horizon and why Kojima may be so keen to use the engine. It also goes into performance on both consoles as well as loading times. Interestingly the menu system is at 60fps and on Pro, native 4k...
did anyone notice not a drop of wind anywhere. nothing moving. no plants opening up or closing. Looks very bland to me. They spend so much time making the world beautiful then forget a simple mechaninc like wind.Clouds don't even move ffs.
EDIT: I have since been proven sooo wrong. My bad I really should read before I jump in with my 2 size 10's lol
@BAMozzy Yep, I noticed the menus were 60fps instantly. I can't believe other developers don't do this; it feels so snappy to browse and is such a considerate touch.
@TomKongPhooey Someone didn't read the article: "It's perhaps worth noting that some of these shots come courtesy of the title's Photo Mode which freezes the foliage, so you actually get a much more "alive" image in the game itself."
This game has probably some of the best wind effects I've ever seen.
This is how it looks in motion:
@get2sammyb Its just I have not seen it mentioned elsewhere so was a pleasant surprise to hear its implemented here. It would make sense to implement it in other games too but I don't know how easy it would be for them. That could be one advantage of the Decima Engine to have separate frame rates between game-play and menu systems where as other engines may apply a 'cap' to the whole game.
@get2sammyb It's just that I feel like I should experience it first by myself before watching anything else...
I don't know if I can hold out waiting for this game... My wallet will hurt in March.
@AFCC I feel exactly the same way. I try incredibly hard to do that; it proves very difficult sometimes especially with Persona 5. I think it is much more enjoyable to go into a game with wide eyes and wonder. It's almost a nostalgic feeling for me, and a feeling that I struggle with at that.
@get2sammyb My bad. I scanned the article and went straight into the vid. THat makes a lot more sense. I just thought everything was dead looking but watching that second one I stand corrected. Wow!! It does look great. Sorry guys
i've not seen any game before that made me think a 4K tv was something i needed to have, but this is testing my resolve. i'm not going to get skyrim finished before this comes out, and i don't know how i'll be able to go back to it after completing horizon...
@Constable_What I can't quantify the amount of hype I have for P5 xD
@AFCC If I where to watch any gameplay or any videos on that game I think I would spontaneously combust. xD
@Constable_What I usually see all trailers for P5 because I think the game will be huge enough to not get so spoiled xD
And sometimes the hype gets to me and I go see a japanese gameplay !
