We’re fools. We thought Capcom may celebrate Street Fighter’s big 30th anniversary with a milestone Street Fighter V update, adding in new content, modes, and features. In fact, there had been rumours along those lines. But nah, we should have known – the publisher’s got a brand new batch of costumes to flog. And it seems like that’s it.
Starting from 29th August, you’ll be able to purchase fresh threads for M. Bison, Guile, Ibuki, and Karin. The clothes will cost $3.99/€3.99 apiece. There’s no word on anything else being added to the title – not even a tease. Sigh. Apparently, the company does have an updated Anniversary Collection also on the way, but that’s yet to be officially announced either.
Urgh.

Guess it's time to rage quit SFV?
@DerMeister I keep holding false hope, but it just doesn't seem like Capcom cares about the casual fans anymore.
All they care about is the tournament scene, which I understand, but Street Fighter was already hard to get into, and it's only becoming more and more difficult to penetrate.
I haven't played in a while, but how hard is it to get new characters and costumes without buying them with real money?
@get2sammyb As a casual Street Fighter player, I honestly agree. Between Tekken, Injustice, as well as King of Fighters and Garou, I just can't see myself getting SFV. I've always thought they'd put in the single player content later on, but it's been over a year. If they were going to, they would have by now.
I want to jump on the hate bandwagon concerning this being all they do for the 30th anniversary BUT the anniversary is aug 30th so theres still hope for something more. I hope this 30th anniversary colkection turns out to be true. Realistically they should add sagat since hes been around since day 1 and tons of people want him. And they should have costumes for ALL characters not just 4. I cant stand the lop sided uninclusiveness of how they do costumes now. Aaaand i think its about time they did a remake of sf1 from the ground up!
3.99 A PIECE!
@DerMeister there is single player content.
They will announce other things...and you all get 30K fight money for logging into the game that week.
And we just got a hefty update anyway >_>
@DerMeister SFV has more single player content than Tekken 7(by now). Don't let the hate bandwagon fool you...it is also way more accessible and explains itself to you. Not hating on Tekken, it's glorious, but if you are a casual player I'd definitely go SFV.
@get2sammyb According to Shoryuken.com a data miner has discovered in the game's files recently a "working" arcade mode, new costumes, stages and even the barrels bonus stage so something must be coming. Like what someone said earlier, let's wait till the end of the month. Besides if you think SFV is bad for costume DLC, you wanna see Dead or Alive 5
And this is why Tekken 7 and ARMS are quite probably going to outsell it.
But in all seriousness, what a great 30th anniversary. Costumes for this, and a $40 port of SF2 on a handheld. Woo.
Not gonna get these costumes, but Birdie gets no love. He only has like what, 2 extra costumes? Anyways, I still think Capcom will announce some big update with Street Fighter V sometime this year.
There are 2 game that make me stop preordering games without reading review first, no man sky and sf5. While no man sky developer hello games do whatever it takes to bring their fan back with free big update, capcom just abandoned their casual fan.
Yawn. $10 for all the DLC KoF14 characters right now. No brainer what I am buying this week.
I think we're expecting too much from companies to celebrate their 30th anniversaries, because they don't really seem to care. Zelda got some amiibo and art books....that's about it.
@SoulChimera Does it have more than just the survival and story? I want an arcade ladder like almost every fighter has. Those two modes just don't cut it unless I play online.
@Feena Believe me, I've wanted SFV, and have even wanted to get good at SF, but I can't help but resist. I don't usually reject games out of principal, but I just feel wrong getting SFV, while other fighting games go unnoticed.
And while I do admit I'm disappointed at Tekken 7's lack of content, I'm a not so casual Tekken player, so I can enjoy it more.
@sinalefa Capcom actually gives you an option to easily get the new characters for free. Even new stages. Where is this option in KOF? Double standards hate bandwagon.
Neatherrealm have put Capcom to shame with Injustice 2 ok they still have the season pass fighters but the amount of content from day one put it miles ahead of SFV
@BLP_Software I like Injustice 2 so much more. Storymode, multiverse with endings, costumes to unlock personally i like that 1 way better. I just hate that the DLC does not have trophies like Overwatch did it.
@GlynCR Agreed 100% more fun.
@Feena
I would rather pay $10 than grind like crazy online because Capcom doesn't give me the option to play Arcade Mode, my favorite way of playing.
Plus KoF already has 50 characters day one.
@Feena SF5 is way worse then most fighters bought it on release and it was a real dissapointment. The free stuff is needed to make it a complete game.
There's nothing wrong with charging for additional characters and costumes in my opinion. The problem with SF5 is that they've done nothing to improve an already lacklustre package other than adding expensive premium content on top.
If they were actually improving the base game I'd be happy to purchase the odd costume I like, but there's no way I'm shelling out even more money on this game that has no interest in improving the experience for a player like me.
@adf86 I sincerely hope the data miner is accurate.
@GlynCR It's likely that Injustice 2 had a lot of money thrown at it, WB are the publishers after all. Capcom have been trying to make most of their recent games on a budget, it's why a lot of remasters are coming from them.
They really need to relaunch that game. Properly. Low price, a brand new box, a huge update with new modes, characters, balance, etc. And the owners of the actual SFV get all that for free, with an update of their current version.
@sinalefa you don't have to grind online, the bulk of the fight money is earned from single player modes. Look it up. Gamefaqs has a guide to get all the fight money for all the characters with close to zero skill involved.
@get2sammyb I completely agree about the "premium" costumes (meaning: they are unnecessary and I see them as an occasional splurge, I just have bought 1 since launch) but to be honest the base game has improved a lot since launch... complete rebalance, server migration, story mode, two volumes of trials and demostrations, weekly missions... Maybe the modes you have been waiting for aren't already there and I wish for more too but one can't really say they aren't adding stuff and making the game better...
@Feena Well this is why I say I don't feel like they care about me, as a more casual player. Which is totally their prerogative, but I won't be buying future Street Fighter games TBH.
Maybe they don't need my money anymore. That's fine.
@get2sammyb I am pretty sure you're gonna get what you want in the not so distant future.
That said, do we realise that buying a fighting game for single player alone is like buying a naughty dog game just for the multiplayer? There surely is fun to be had but it's not the main focus and it's not where the game truly shines...
@Feena I see what you're saying, but I disagree. I felt like the balance between single player and multiplayer in Injustice 2 was great, and I've got a lot of playtime out of both modes. Tekken 7 wasn't perfect, but certainly better than SF5.
So it can be done if the desire is there.
@get2sammyb Agree to disagree and anyway I am not saying (how could I?) it couldn't have a way better package, especially at launch. I just get weirded out when people seem to thinks 1p mode is the main thing in these games...
Then again, I am not that much into NetherRealm games: they are all package around ok games in a sea of way better games. I'd rather play the best games, not the best package...
@adf86 most games have a lot of money thrown at them but - and as good a fighting game SFV was at launch - it was just missing so much stuff when you compare it to other fighters in the last couple of years even the original Injustice had more going on than SFV
@JoeBlogs okay, thanks. Maybe I'll get back into it at some point
