Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has cruised unchallenged to a fifth week at the top of the UK sales charts, although the retail release schedule is a bit barren right now. Nevertheless, it marks the first time that a PlayStation 4 exclusive has registered five weeks at the summit – and it’s also the secured the most number ones this year thus far.
Elsewhere, there’s really not a whole lot to say. Grand Theft Auto V has moved into second place, with Bethesda’s trio of Fallout 4, DOOM, and Dishonored 2 coming in just behind. Battlefield 1’s up in seventh place, and, honestly, that’s all she wrote. It’s probably going to be a little quiet in here until the end of the month, as most of the noteworthy releases until then are on the PlayStation Store.

You could argue that it's holding Number 1 predominantly because of a lack of 'new' releases to challenge and the timing of its release has seen it top the charts for so long. I wonder if it would have seen the top of the charts in October/November if it had released then...
Fair play @got2sammyb you did say crash would be a monster success. Hopefully more companies are looking at how releasing games like this at budget prices can engender customer good will and sales success.
Not surprised to see doom so high. Retailers are practically giving it away atm. I really should pick it up at some point.
One week to go until Sonic. The hype is real
Mmm the bandicoot is well and truly saved.
Took a break from it myself. Relics on the first one were doing my head in for the plat. Got lawbreakers to jump into this week personally!
Do we know numbers?
The power of crash bandicoot know no bounds
@kyleforrester87 For this week or overall?
@get2sammyb Overall I guess? The games obviously done well but it's not really been up against any big hitters. Wonder how it would have faired during a busier period.
When was the last time a PS4 exclusive (for now) topped the charts for this long? Might be a first.
@kyleforrester87 I believe it's over 200k in the UK and sold better out of the gate than Horizon: Zero Dawn. It'll get overtaken by your Destiny 2s and FIFA 18s but should still be one of the UK's top ten best sellers of the year when all's said and done.
Your right that the chart position is elevated by the release timing, but that's part of the reason it's been handled so well. A nice summer release for £30 — they played this remake perfectly.
I'm surprised to see Fallout 4 reet up there.
@get2sammyb Cool, agreed. Nice work Activision! Did I just say that? I'll be inviting Ubisoft round for tea next...
@kyleforrester87 Even if it went up against big hitters (Depending on your view of Splatoon I suppose) it had a price advantage and nostalgia.
The other "big" games lost out either on price, install base, cult status or just not being good games.
Crash had nostalgia, install base and price. Three strikes the competition is out
I wonder if the success of the Crash trilogy has to do mainly with nostalgia and it turning out to be quality product or if it's that, but, also, a sign of a thirst for these kinds of games again.
Look at DOOM doing so well.
5 weeks in the top is pretty good
It's disheartening that this is doing so well even after Vicarious Visions have said they're not going to fix the jumping. I would buy it if they fixed it, but why would they bother at this point?
@BAMozzy There have been new releases. Final Fantasy XII ZA took the number 1 spot from Crash away for a week. Splatoon 2... well, didn't. Miitopia looks like it has staying power, but it doesn't have the huge appeal like Crash does.
Crash is simply a bonafide hit. 5 weeks at number 1 is a great achievement, no matter what month it is.
@Mahe There hasn't been 'big' releases that would or could easily have replaced Crash in that time. 2 of those were 'Switch' games that certainly hasn't got the install base or 'history' that Crash has and the other is a 'niche' title which probably hasn't got the 'interest' in the UK to the same degree.
I very much doubt this would have been Number 1 if it launched the week Destiny, Fifa etc launched and certainly wouldn't have hung around so long with the October and November big hitters launching - especially not as all of those are multi-platform releases too and would also sell copies to the Xbox and PC users.
Its been very much helped by the timing of its launch and I wouldn't be surprised if Fifa (for example) or Destiny 2 sell more copies in the first week than this has managed over its lifespan to date. Most of the games in the top 10 are a year old (if not more).
If you want a guaranteed Number 1 game, release in June or July as the release schedule is not that loaded with the big hitters who will be holding out for the Holiday season...
Its still quite an achievement but it was hardly surprising and I wouldn't be surprised if it holds top spot next week too. I know we have a number of releases tomorrow but I believe all will be 'digital' with Agents of Mayhem not releasing until the 18th (not that I think it will have a 'big' impact on the charts but could take number 1 just because of the lack of competition and the multi-platform release) and then Uncharted: the Lost Legacy on the 23rd. A few others may well knock it off - Not entirely sure what is releasing when and if they are 'digital' only - like Hellblade and Batman for example and therefore won't be counted in the charts anyway.
If a game like Crash, can launch in the same week as Fifa, CoD etc and be number 1, then I will be impressed but I am more impressed by GTAv at Number 2 after so long...
@BAMozzy Only Splatoon is a Switch title. Miitopia is for 2DS and 3DS.
"If you want a guaranteed Number 1 game, release in June or July as the release schedule is not that loaded with the big hitters who will be holding out for the Holiday season..."
If you want a guaranteed Number 1 game, don't launch against Crash N. Sane Trilogy.
Crash has been out for 6 weeks now, and it has been number 1 for 5 weeks of those. If any game could do it, we would have seen more number 1 titles, but Crash is clearly a cut above the rest.
Surprised to see Fallout 4 doing so well still.
I finally had the chance to play crash this weekend whilst drinking at a family friends. Its rubbish.
