The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim tends to clean up whatever appliance it’s released on, as cheekily acknowledged by the Amazon Echo edition. So popular is the sprawling RPG that director Todd Howard has hinted that if people want Bethesda to stop re-releasing it, they should bloody well stop buying it.
It’s perhaps not a surprise to see the excellent PlayStation VR version top the PlayStation 4’s most played virtual reality games list, then. It’s important to note that this isn’t necessarily a list of best-sellers, but it’s ordered by cumulative playtime. Given the nature of the Dragonborn’s escapade, it makes sense for it to top this list.
Most Played PSVR Games So Far
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR
- PlayStation VR Worlds
- Rec Room
- Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
- The Playroom VR
- Job Simulator
- Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
- Batman: Arkham VR
- Farpoint
- SUPERHOT VR
We always feel an irrational pang of irritation when Sony releases data like this, because it means that the company is tracking tons of interesting statistics about the games we play, but keeping that information secret. Wouldn’t it be neat if the PS4 had some kind of system-wide game log, so you could see which titles you play the most and when?

Not sure how I feel how about the list. A lottttttt of launch window stuff on that list, with relatively little by way of more recent titles.
@DLB3 I wish it were! That game's awesome!
@gbanas92 Well I mean it's most played so it makes sense. Stuff like PSVR Worlds continues to be heavily bundled and has had two years to rack up lots of playtime.
Comparatively something like The Persistence has had a month to get on this list.
I tried Skyrim VR at a friends house, and it was too much of a need glasses but don't have them simulator. I don't think it ended up being a very good fit. I want VR, but Skyrim isn't going to be one I play.
And yes, Playstation should have a system wide log, it's always fun to see what you've played the most.
@get2sammyb That's true too. It's most played rather than units. I was thinking more like recent but not brand new though. Something more like Moss. There's a pretty intense lack of games from that window.
But ultimately I guess it's fine, PSVR's launch lineup was supremely impressive so I can't be too irked by it haha.
Another game sat on my shelf sealed. I also have never played Skyrim so it'll be a treat when I get to it. Would anyone suggest that melee or ranged attacks work better in Skyrim VR?
@gbanas92 Yeah but Moss is like two hours long so... Even if it sold a lot of copies, you'd be relying on everyone replaying it four or five times to catch up with some of these games.
@get2sammyb Oh is it? I've had the disc sitting on my shelf for like a month but I haven't started yet hahaha.
RE7 seems like the best game for the platform in terms of being quality software that's well-suited to VR.
If I ever get the chance to borrow a PSVR set-up for a week to play through that game, I'll absolutely go for it.
@NintendoFan4Lyf Too bad Nintendo neutered the activity log on the Switch. Like... why would they do that? What possible reason could there be to not have at least as robust an activity log as we had on the 3DS?
That’s my feel, Superhot VR is hands down my fave VR game but at 2 odd hours long no way would it be as well played as Skyrim.
Tried it and wasn't a huge fan. Got as far as the dragon. Rick and Morty is a much better fit, imo.
Expected SuperhotVR to be a lot higher considering 1. how difficult it is, 2. how often the controls don't work and you end losing and have to start from the beginning.
An awesome, yet incredibly frustrating game.
@get2sammyb "Wouldn’t it be neat if the PS4 had some kind of system-wide game log, so you could see which titles you play the most and when?"
Well they stopped requiring a $5 credit card purchase, so maybe this is next.
It has been a pet peeve of mine since we got a Wii 10 years ago. Which I suppose would have made it annoying even back on the PS3. Switch doesn't have one though, which is even more annoying since 3DS has a really nice one. Wii U one still works too.
Maybe "Game Log" alongside "cross-play" and a 4k drive will be a reason to upgrade to PS5.
Still haven't tried Skyrim VR. Still have my old PS3 version that I've put about 1 hour into.
If Moss is only 2 hours long I'm never buying that unless it goes on sale for $1.99. PS+ for PSVR games in March, fingers crossed.

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi
I would recommend ranged. The melee feels a little floaty and disjointed. I'm constantly knocking things in my room over when I try melee. Not to mention the enemies reactions and core systems of melee combat in Skyrim itself are incredibly mediocre. And it's aged worse!
But using a bow, or magic is great fun! You can fire the bow as fast you can make the motion to pull the arrow out of your "quiver", and melting two enemies a distance away, or two groups even, with duel wielded magic is so satisfying.
You should experiment with both! See which one you like best.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi once you try the bow you'll never do anything else. I struggle to find a way to melee or even spell cast. archery is pretty rewarding to play! fun and effective.
Skyrim VR (to me) still feels like one of the only games that fully embraced the platform. RE7 is another great example.
There are plenty of other fantastic games, but for me, there's almost always a "..but" involved. The Persistence is great... but the controls are terrible for VR. GT Sport is amazing fun... but a ton of content is locked out of the VR modes. Job Simulator is funny.. but it's charm only lasts a couple hours.
@sciteach @Constable_What thanks for the tips, I usually always go melee or bow in an rpg and tend to avoid magic, will be nice to try something different, probably just go bow crazy then and maybe some magic on the side.
I’m currently playing the PS4 version and if VR ever becomes within my price range I’ll pick that version up and played all over again.
That's a pretty sad top 10 list. If that's the best VR has to offer, that's even more depressing.
Uggh it made me quite dizzy a few times but it was fun when I wasn't jumping around and stuff
Skyrim??? Really?? 😞 Psvr had some amazing game's, but Skyrim??
RIGZ amazing, FARPOINT (especially with Aim controller) amazing,
Rezi7 amazing, Moss amazing and probably the best one to which we are getting a full game of is Robot Rescue (check trailer looks cool AF) soon. But Skyrim??? The only downside/downfall of Psvr is the DUMB AS F#@K move controller's! Should never have even been considered, even as a temporary VR controller! If a 3rd party company can come up with such a cool controller like the Aim controller, Sony could have done better aswel. Also maybe the ability to add another camera for better tracking but the controller is the major issue. Maybe next time they'll get it right 😕. Sadly I won't be around as I feel Sony/Microsoft eco system is way too controlled n dictated n underpowered soo I'll be moving to a pc, but will be interesting to see wat Sony does to win fans back after their recent fiasco.
@IKILLUM1NATI I'd agree that those are all good games, but Skyrim VR is certainly an amazing VR game and well deserving of the #1 spot in my opinion. The only fault I can find with Skyrim VR is the sound design.
I'm sure the next iteration of PSVR will have much better tracking and peripherals. The PS4 wasn't really ready VR. It's amazing what they've been able to do with it considering the limitations. I'd still take a PSVR over any other VR ecosystem.
